I meant can the audio be passed through both HDMI and AV at the same time?
Oh, I believe that was added in one of the latest firmware updates, so you should be able to do that.
does the 120 gb ps3 play ps2 games, i am sure i read it dont but just makin sure
it does not. the 60GB is the one that plays all PS2 games. no current PS3 is BC. (exceptions for SingStar)
I meant can the audio be passed through both HDMI and AV at the same time?
You can do this. The problem is that one or the other output will be restricted to 2 channel sound.

Anyone else have their PS3 make a kind of humming/buzzing sound on some screens of the Playstation store? Like I'm on the demo screen, and the physical unit buzzes.

It's always done that (second gen unit bundled with MGS4), and it's coming from the unit, not the TV, but I thought I ought to ask if everyone else's does that.

If I earn trophies, but never use my ps3 online, Is there a way to transfer those to another ps3? I have an (new) old model ps3 and I do not want to update the firmware. I know eventually I will buy a slim and I would like to keep my old saves and trophies.

Most saves are transferable as long as their on the same PSN account (meaning you need an online account at least) and trophies can only be linked to an account. Any trophies that are earned but not synced to the profile will just sit in the PS3. They are not transferable.

So do the red Greatest Hits games still have artwork on the reverse side of the cover insert? I'm referring to Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank specifically.

Anyone know if PSN Cards are taxed? Specifically in NJ. I bought XBL points in TRU a few weeks ago and they weren't taxed. Wondering if it's the same with PSN cards.

Are you taxed on the PSN store when making credit card purchases? If so, there's a possibility yo'll get taxed. Why don't you try adding a PSN card to a cart and seeing if they chard tax on checkout.

On another note, I just found something that helped improve my wireless connection. If any of you have a broadcom based router i.e. Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS, you should consider flashing your router firmware to Tomato. I previously was using the latest default firmware and then DD-WRT. But when I switched to Tomato, my download speeds and PSN connection became much faster (almost doubled the speed) and much more stable. It also is easy on the eyes, easy to use, and has a slew of useful tools/options.

On the front page, there's a list of routers known to work with the Tomato firmware.

I recently bought 2 $20 PSN cards from Amazon, and I wast charged any tax.

However, I live in CA. So that might have to do with it.

I thought about doing this but I'm afraid to mess it up. Is it tough to do? And what does it do differently then my normal firmware that allows the downloads/speed better?

Just make sure to keep a backup of your default firmware somewhere on your computer. Basically, all you have to do is download the zip file, extract, save the bin file to wherever you would like. Then go into your default config page (192.168.1.1 for most), then usually administration > upgrade firmware > select bin file.

Basically the same procedure as when you update the firmware, except you're using the Tomato firmware instead.

There are also some questions answered on the Tomato FAQ page.

From my understanding, the firmware is lightweight and has proven to be very stable. Also the user interface is faster than the default Linksys UIs. It also gives you the ability to increase the Tx rate if you wish to do so, but you most likely do not need to.

I'm not taxed on Amazon for anything and you can't get them from GameStop online. I am taxed on NewEgg (who also charges $6 for shipping). I'll just buy it directly from the PSN store on my PS3 with a CC. I don't have to worry about Sony auto-renewing a 3-month subscription to PSN like MS did.

Thanks, I'll have to give it a shot.

Now this sounds pretty awesome. Would my wireless provider be cool with this? Or is this on a need to know basis?

I'm not quite sure about wireless providers. I mean, if you do indeed own the router, then you are free to do what you please. If you're renting it or for some reason the router is not yours, then it would make sense to not change the firmware, or at least inquire about it.

Is there a way to check online if a PSN username is taken? Also can i make more than one with the same email address? I already made one with The7thNumber online, dont have a PS3 yet...but i hate how it doesnt have spaces, and was thinking of going with something with one word, or name.

I have a dlc code that expires today, but I do not have my psn account set up yet. Is there a way to download the files to my computer, so I have them when I use my ps3 online in the future? (It is the rock band tracks for brutal legend)

No, you'd have to do it from the PS3. Is there a reason you can't? I don't remember it taking SUPER long to set up, although picking a username is hard/annoying.

Where did you purchase the PSN cards? Tried doing a search and all I got were some from Target that charged $5.xx shipping.
i just bought the uncharted/controler combo. my question is how do i sync up the controler. i bought a used ps3 so no directions
I think all you do is connect the controller to the console via the USB cable and power on the controller.

Question about upgrading the hdd.
Will my PSN ID settings transfer over?
Will my Sign in ID's and gameshared content transfer over?

If not, is there a way to get this info back? I'd hate to lose this game that I've gameshared.

I'm not sure (I upgraded before I ever GSed), but as long as you still have all the sign-in info, couldn't you just re-download it all?

Well, that's part of the problem. I've gameshared with people in the past to get the content and don't have that login anymore.

As long as you are backing up to an external hard drive restoring to the same PS3, then yes. Everything transfers during a normal hard drive upgrade (not sure about PSN ID passwords though).

Yeah, it saved my PSN ID's. Short of the terrible screws that Sony puts in the drive cage, everything went perfectly.

My PS3 is flashing to a black screen for about 2 seconds and then coming back to normal right after. Does anyone know what is wrong?

I had old firmware on my PS3 and I updated it to 2.76. I can earn trophies on new games, but I can not get trophies for EoJ (which now has trophy support). Do I need to delete my save files to get trophies to work on pre trophy saves or is there a way to make it recognize the old save files?

I moved back into my dorm today and brought my PS3. However, I forgot to take out my Darksiders disc. My PS3 didn't move around much though I did have it upside in my back briefly and I bumped it against myself and heard some noise (it sounded kind of like the Gamecube's shoulder button). When I play Darksiders, there's a black screen for a long time. The 2nd time I started it from the menu the THQ icon never came up, just the Vigil (which is after THQ's). I haven't tried it with any other games yet. I tried it some other times and it's taken 28 seconds to get to the THQ screen. The game itself has been fine.

Could this be a problem?

Anyone know if there are issues with EA's servers when it comes to Army of Two: The 40th Day? A friend and I downloaded the demo to see if it was something worth buying, since we'd only be getting it to play co-op together. And while the demo allows for online co-op, that mode never actually started once we were set up to go. It'd go to the load screen where it shows what the controllers are, but it wouldn't go any further. It didn't freeze -- it just didn't continue on. If this problem isn't demo-only, there's really no reason for us to buy the game.

My understanding is it's like the Xbox-it'll sync up with your profile once you're connected (so long as you earned it with your profile on the console).

Hey gang, I'm getting into the PS3 market and was wondering if now is the best time. Did I hear rumors that a 250GB model is going to be offered at the $300 price point soon? I really don't have any intention to do a manual hard drive upgrade and 120 will probably be plenty of room but I once thought that of the 20GB on the 360...
