PSN has returned. What freebie games are you getting?
2 free games out of a selection of 5 games sounds great. I just hope it isn't something I already have.
Exactly. I hope they give us the value of the game (9.99-14.99) added to our PSN wallets if we do have that game.

I haven't kept up with the thread too much for the past few days because of my schedule, so please forgive me for asking this, but has this been confirmed for the US? I only saw it for EU.

just EU atm.

Doubtful. Anyone expecting monetary compensation is nuts. Handing out games is the best thing they can do because they really lose nothing.

Hey, does anyone have the link to the thread where we could bet on the day the PSN would be back? I actually have a chance to win the 20$ PSN card if it comes back Monday. XD

Now here's an interesting question. Since most people have multiple accounts (1 NA, 1 EU, 1 JP) does that mean we can get 6 games overall, or are they region locking this stuff?

fucking crap this is pissing me off so bad if by the 15th its not back im going to do something so crazy ill never be able to forgive myself for it but dammit they drove me to it
considering getting a wii.............
i feel so dirty.
To add what Salmando said, they are suppose to provide you with a "code". You go to their site, sign up for the year service enter the promo code and you get the complimentary year on Sony.

I don't see the fake emails being a massive pandemic problem sprouting up.

Bottom line, be smart about it and be more cautious.

I'm not, I've had to fight myself from posting over the past week with how stupid the "comments" were, but then again, this topic itself, I read some of the comments and man, some of you guys scare me.

With our massive backlogs, do all of you have absolutely NOTHING else to play?

I have enough to keep me busy literally for years offline.
i have alot of games left to play but i really played mp daily it was a big part of my gaming routine so not being able to basically frustrates the hell out of me. i know for some people its not as big of a deal that psn is down because they werent as into mp games but when you are it really sucks when you cant.

I busted out my Gamecube now >=D I got Evolution Worlds and Star Wars Rouge Squadron III to play

Nope, May 15th at midnight. No way they will bring it online at the start of a weekend.

im just anticipating the slowest firmware download ever!

Would anyone be interested in starting up a PS2 online thread while PSN is down?
We could provide a list of games with online multiplayer that still work and let people hook up for them. I think it'd be a good way for us to get our fill of online while we wait for Sony.

If monetary compensation in the form of PSN credit can only be used on digital downloads from the PSN store, what's the difference?

From the consumer side its lack of choice if the games are pre-chosen, from Sony's side it doesn't matter.

Am I missing something here?

first party vs. 3rd party. The same reason they only bundle first party titles with systems, because its much cheaper for them, less royalties/fees/etc.

Losing personal info to hackers is worth some monetary compensation.

What can I say? I just don't think paying for online gaming is very CHEAP. ;)

0_o

And I personally feel I deserve a cake from Sony. What does this have to do with being realistic about the situation?

And nice triple post of useless information.

Not true, I love my Wii. The only reason why I think some people don't like it is because they don't know how to maximize it's performance.
Oh no, i have "Maximized" its performance. (250 Gigs to be exact).

Though, there just arent many games on it that i like/liked
can either of you explain the whole maximizing its performnce thing?
We'd tell you, but then we'd have to kill you. ;)

I'm sure a lot of people are more impatient than others. I bet when psn finally does go back up some of the games that wasn't that full will be completely dead forever. :(

I'm starting to feel like it will be time for E3 and Sony will comment on psn and say it will be up within the week.

PS3RIPS: Sony's Severs have had hackers in them since the says of the PS2, however most people went in to gain R&D info for opening the PS2 and Ps3. Manuals and Corporate info.
The hackers to my knowledge never took any user info, although they could have if they wanted to.
The JigStick repair process info for example was leaked to Devs and other interested parties about 3 years before the first USB device was made via a sony server hack.

One other point is that Sony knew about the hackers in their network and over time a "relationship" was created a bit like the Sony Vs Homebrew Scene, where sony knew of the people and groups attempting to access they network and they would be monitored and if they caught a hacker all that would happen is that the hole would get closed and at worse you would get a visit from a lawyer or be "invited" to the Sony lawyers offices where you would talk about any "issues" taken place.

Their network has more holes than swiss cheese.

If they really want to secure it. Then instead of offering rewards for catching the hackers they should offer Vuln rewards to hackers for responsibly reporting network and web-app holes. This is what Google and Mozilla has done to great success.
.

You need to expand your horizons... Here are some great exclusives that can be had for about $10.

Gears of War
Halo
Fable
Forza
Kameo
Mass Effect (the first one)
Ninja Blade
Viva Piñata

if what you posted was true then thatd basically mean sony has been lying to us all from the start. if its true...........can anyone verify the claims that google and other companies actually do that?

I have no clue, I just posted what that guy j-kart was talking about said so nobody would have to lurk for it themselves. :whee:

lokizz.........do you find it that hard to think that a corp would lie to the consumer after a major flub?

edit-------lokizz.........let my Mom have a rest already dangit.

My grrl and I played Blops(and MW2 before, and WaW before that...etc) every nite for at least an hour. now this was crazy at first but it feels like quitting cold turkey. we had no idea what to do at first without our CoD fix, but now it just feels right after 17nites. I bet Blops map pack is gonna be meh sales after all these psn cod junkies have gone a few weeks without. I just hope we don't get another baby already ;)

I'm sure every major multiplayer game on PS3 will have a multiple XP/money weekend when PSN comes back up to entice fans to come back.

no i dont but if what that guys posts says is true then sony would be pretty much fucked if it could be confirmed. no amount of fanboy loyalism could protect them from the wrath of the screwed over consumer. of course if they do it youd have to wonder how many other companies are doing it and to what extent.

What the PS3Rips mentions has an air of truth to it. Sony has only lied about getting the PSN up within this week. Everything else is just them trying to hold their ground.

The backlash will be evident, especially since the x360 is pretty cheap now. The best way to win the consumers back? Cross-game chat when the PSN comes back.

Speaking as someone working in IT, the security holes they had that allowed this breach are just unforgivable for an external facing application. Hackers being criminals or not (and there is no doubt that the data thieves are criminals and should be prosecuted), Sony made it pitifully easy for someone to take everything.

I just find it funny that a company that slaps DRM into everything they sell didn't bother to encrypt customer data; The irony is delicious.
I'm sure every major multiplayer game on PS3 will have a multiple XP/money weekend when PSN comes back up to entice fans to come back.
That's why I'm glad there's no money/XP for playing around in free mode, so there's nothing to entice those players back aside from the ability to be a buncha tools to other random people on the net again.
The best way to win the consumers back? Cross-game chat when the PSN comes back.
:roll:What is the big fuckin' deal with 'cross game chat'? If I wanna talk to my friends on PSN, I'll pop in the same game they're playing(if I have it) and we can use the in-game voice chat. Otherwise, I have no desire to talk to people I have on my friends' list, except through messaging/text chat on there.

It's pretty evident by now that Sony is NOT going to just up and give people this option. So there must be SOME reason WHY they're not doing so. It could be that Microsoft owns a patent on this, just like they owned a percentage of Immersion and as such Sony doesn't wanna end up owing them more money like they did when they held out on settling the Immersion lawsuit. Long story short, MS settled and bought a stake in the company and THEN Sony settled, so they ended up paying MS a portion of that settlement money by being stubborn.;)

Some random users post on psxscene makes you think he's telling the truth?

With that said I had a computer forensics teacher tell me that some companies do reward hackers if they report security holes or bugs, assuming the hackers don't take any info.
