So to the people who agree with the 3.5 score, is Arkham Origins a shitty game then? Because even using the full 1-10 scale, a 3.5 means it sucks.
I haven't played the game yet. I share his sentiments about it being a blatant cash-in, though. Not sure how realistic it is for someone to review it in a vacuum. It was preceded by two incredible games, so it's only natural the standard is high.

His writing is technically competent but the quality of his reviews are devoid of value.
What you did there, I see...

You did this...YOU!
Good lord, WHAT is that? Lol.

Does anyone know when Batman Blackgate for Vita will be available for free?
I can't say for sure, but I can tell you that my massive, bigger than life fuck-ing backlog is soooooo NOT ready. Unlike my body.

Backlog, backlog, backlog!

BACKLOG.

Well it was either have no 3rd game or wait forever I guess. I do agree that WB Montreal played it very safe and really didnt do anything significant. Although I cant blame them too much cause Arkham City and what Rocksteady did was just beyond amazing that you either 1. Cant top it  2. Dont want to mess with something that fucks the whole game up.

The rating is because of the cash-in/safe play by WB. Its been 2 years since Arkham City. They can gladly cash in $60 from me cause I love the series. Its definitely not a 3.5/10. Id give it a 8.5/10

I'm glad I grabbed DmC in the sale this week. Never played any previous game in the series, but I'm having a blast playing. Story is a little cheesy/over the top, but it's damn fun chaining combos together to some jammin' metal.

I give DmC a 2/10, because it has metal. And someone I saw a clip on Youtube of a bug in the game. Even though I didn't personally experience the bug, it still has a strong impact on my opinion.

(But seriously, fuck yeah Lost)

Agree completely. The map feels a little soulless with much less thought going into the "riddles". But gameplay is still great as ever and the story is a lot more solid than the villain parade that was Arkham City.

I haven't gotten far enough in to make a final judgement of the game but the way it's immediately set up as "here's the eight bosses you're going to have to take down to get to Black Mask" felt so contrived. That cinematic had me rolling my eyes.

I really do want to pick Blackgate up but I've read nothing but "meh" things about the game. I guess I can wait until it's on PS+ since, you know, it's going to be there. Soon. I hope.

Do you mean that the map/level layout is shitting? Or the in-game maps that you have to reference?
in game maps. it's really more an artifact of the .5 of 2.5d I guess - the same section of map can represent multiple tiers of elevations and at times seemingly unrelated areas. sometimes going to the right makes you appear to go down on the map, sometimes to the right, sometimes up. sometimes it takes 15 seconds for the map to load, probably because the weirdness of it requires high level calculus to compute. I'm not sure there's a better way to do it, but after hunting for one detective clue for an hour tonight when I knew the exact location on the map I can safely say that it sucks.

other stuff spoilered for long
it is purdy to look at though, the fighting is totally fine, the 'choose your own adventure' idea plays out ok, outside of two the boss type fights are enjoyable (reviews are correct in that they're entirely trial and error). god bless trophy addicts, the required three play throughs to get everything sucks terribly (or four if you're like me and didn't realize that you could open the last end game crate to complete a bat suit). detective clues suck, sometimes you can scan them from across the room, sometimes you have to be standing next to them. comic style cut scenes are neat.

I would kill exactly 17 people to get Shadow Complex on PS3 or Vita.
The devs got completely fucking stuck on that Infinity Blade game and Shadow Complex fell completely off their radar. Which sucks. Stupid mobile gaming!

I just found out they're located in Salt Lake City. Maybe I should go find their offices and kick some sense into them to make a Shadow Complex 2 and port the original!

Awesome price for Fatal Frame 1 and 2. I highly suggest picking them up if you're a fan of horror games. Totally worth a blind buy.

Bitchin deal on Siren as well if you have PS+

Good luck climbing up that pile of money they work on.

I don't know if it would've been a better solution, but a Metroid Prime-style map could've been what was needed to make it more obvious that there are tiers of paths through one hallway that are only accessible through taking different routes to get to one area. Going through the administration building, I was glad to see that the beta hacker upgrade let me open up big hallways to bypass a lot of that stuff to get around more easily.

Haven't played AC4 but:

AC1 > AC3 > AC2 > Brotherhood > Revelations

3 was great. I found Conner to be much more interesting than Ezio. I can see why some people dislike 3, because you really don't get to play the game until Sequence 6-7, but I loved it.

fuck.......

I reply to a day old convo...shouldn't drink and post...

How To Survive is pretty cool. I played some of it on steam, its not that polished of a game but worth checking out, it has online coop also.

Final haul of Sales of the Dead both last week and this week have been:

Bioshock 1

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record

Dead Space 1

Dead Space 2 (Nope, doesn't come with Extraction sadly)

DMC

Doom 3: BFG Edition

Fatal Frame 1

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly

House of the Dead Bundle (HOTD 3,4, Overkill)

Infamous: Festival of Blood

Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut

Puppeteer

Red Dead Redemption with Undead Nightmare Collection

Resident Evil 4

Sleeping Dogs with Nightmare in North Point

Telltale's The Walking Dead PS3 and PS Vita versions with 400 Days

The Last Guy

And that's it. A lot of games? Yes I know but I must tide myself over until Black Friday somehow

AC1 was awful. You want to kill so and so, first do three of these five tasks 7 times to complete the game. Oh and it's not just cool assassins, there's mummies and 3 stooges and what not involved in this story.

No Blood Knights in The Drop.  It launched on Friday for Xbox Live, so figured we'd get it on Tuesday.  Turns out it isn't out on PSN til the 20th.  Anyway, I think it looks cool.

EDIT: After reading up about it, looks live it's been stuck in the final stages of development for a while.  It had release dates as early as 2012.  That's never a good sign...

And that's it. A lot of games? Yes I know but I must tide myself over until Black Friday somehow
o_O Any three games in your purchase would have kept me fully occupied until BF, especially with SD and Red Dead.

I enjoyed AC as a fun sandbox exploration game, though the one thing I didn't like is that they did the smart move of putting all of the villagers in the assassin town in front of a doorway in the ending sequence to cause the framerate to drop like a rock.

Yeah, I actually have been following that game because I am a local coop whore, I hope it won't be a huge disappointment like out of the shadows.

Awesome price for Fatal Frame 1 and 2. I highly suggest picking them up if you're a fan of horror games. Totally worth a blind buy.

Bitchin deal on Siren as well if you have PS+
if someone like me already owns the physical disc copies of fatal frame 1-3 (PS2).....is there any advantage to buying the digital versions? (faster loading, better smoothing, etc)? there are no trophies in the PS2 download games, correct?

It must occupy me as I want that Tales of Xillia game for 20 bucks when Black Friday hits. Maybe snag Dynasty Warriors 8 and that one Killzone game there too

I played the demo for Blood Knights on xbox and ummm its not bad but its not really good either. I don't see any people buying that for 15. maybe for 5.

I have every AC game but the Vita one, haven't gotten to play them because I just can't finish the first one.

I was in the same boat as you. Buy finally I just said fuck it and just moved on to AC2. So glad I did too. I don't feel I missed any major story developments. And I know I didn't miss any fancy gameplay developments cause it was the same shit over and over and over and over (and over). I really enjoyed AC2 though. Really different how they set up missions. You may be doing similar missions a lot, but the way it's presented hides it way better. Having a little palette cleanser now before moving on to Brotherhood.

I haven't gotten far enough in to make a final judgement of the game but the way it's immediately set up as "here's the eight bosses you're going to have to take down to get to Black Mask" felt so contrived. That cinematic had me rolling my eyes.
I felt the same way. Once the Joker gets introduced, though, things become much more interesting. I'm not done yet, but its definitely the weakest of the three, just with a better story than you initially expect.

Anyone else have problems downloading Kingdom of Alamur?

I set it to download, checked backed in a hour and it was still at 0% with the d/l time fluctuating between 1800 minutes and 2600 minutes.

Canceled the download and tried to download something else in my list and it worked fine, so it doesn't seem like it was my internet connection.

I have something like 450 gigs free on my hard drive so I don't think that was it either.

I did that too.

Brotherhood was probably my favorite, then Revelations, then 2, then 1. I'm still playing 3, and I'm enjoying it, but It's not as good as Brotherhood or Revelations.

I've got the Vita one, but haven't touched it yet.

In for I Am Alive. Puppeteer is tempting, but I have to think that it will inevitably be $20 at retail as well soon enough. It's a lesser known game, already discounted on psn, impending ps4 release; I'd say the evidence is there

damn you Schilling!

I couldn't stand AC 1, so much so that it turned me off the entire series all these years. Last year I decided to give AC 2 a try after reading all the positive things about it, and I was glad I did. AC 2 is miles ahead of the 1st one. I'm going to play Brotherhood next in the series, but only after I'm through with my current backlog.

@ Waldo - I had no issues downloading KoA. I did it the first day it was available. Perhaps something has since changed to cause an issue. I remember having an issue with Pinball Heroes on the Vita and I couldn't download it for months. They finally fixed something on their end so those that could not were able to.

@ AC1 haters - I can understand some of the legitimate complaints against the game, but cmon, there is something major missing that AC1 did great that each game has failed to recapture since. Altair was an assassin. Ezio was a trained killer. In the first one, you completed side missions to acquire information on your target that was useful. You could use that information to rehearse your kill, study your target and plan out how you were going to get in and out of the area undetected. In every AC since then, you just murder and run.

At this point no one should bother to play AC1.  It has been said a thousand times by most everyone (except yanksfan, but i mean how can anyone take a yanks fan seriously anyway right?) that AC2 was so much better.  I was so looking forward to colonial america, yet somehow they messed that up. I couldnt stand all the glitches during cut scenes and the bad audio synching in AC3.  Really turned me off.

My issue with AC1 was that those side missions you did pre-assassination were all the same; only the information gathered changed. Sit on a bench and listen. Follow some dude and steal map. Save damsel from evil guards. Most of the time I didn't pay attention to the info and could still do the assassination I was tasked with. And maybe that's why it did evolve into murder & run on those attempts anyway. Isn't it the games job to engage you enough to pay attention to their advice and make you use it? I just got frustrated when I'd arrive in a new city and was told to do the exact same shit I just got done doing in the last one.

Regarding AC2 (the only other one I can speak too), maybe you were doing similar missions in all the cities again, but them not being laid out directly in front if you from the get-go changed the perception for me. I felt more like I was working towards a final assassination goal than I ever did in AC1 because a plan was laid out and then I went and executed it. Sometimes it evolved, sometimes it didn't. Maybe I just prefer more linear shit, which I felt AC2 was compared to AC1. Plus the Assassin's Tombs were a nice addition to change the pace, though those were mostly just parkour challenges.

I agree that the repetition of the side missions was annoying, but it could have been fixed so the goal (obtaining information to use on your assassination targets) was the same and just improved upon to be rid of the repetition, rather than just being rid of it altogether. It made the assassinations shallow in every AC since 1 in terms of gameplay. As you discussed, you could handle assassinations as a hit and run if you wanted or you could handle it tactically. Having the option was nice. I do also agree that the story telling and build up improved, as it should.

As for the game being responsible in engaging the gamer, it absolutely is. I found it engaging to have more freedom to execute my assassinations in the role of an assassin. It obviously engaged less people then it attended so they made changes. I just wish those changes would have improved the model so both sides could be accommodated.

AC1 also launched with a lot of ambition. They hadn't released anything quite like it previously. It was an earlier gen release, developers were still feeling out the freedom of better hardware and exploring those possibilities.

And just to clarify, I am not stating that AC1 is the better overall game or experience. I am just providing my perspective of something that AC1 did do better and some of the potential the series lost along the way.
