I wish Baulder's gate or Champions of Norrath would come over to PSN. Now those were true dungeon crawlers with epic loot.

I really hope Snowblind studios gets another chance on the consoles soon, I bought War of the North full price to support them.
Baldur's Gate not a chance in hell given the state of the IP and the gold copy of the game between all the interested parties. CoN has a slim chance since it's based on a Sony-owned IP but I imagine WB would want a share of the profits. Isn't how that would work Frisky, or would Sony be able to get all money from a PSN release since Snowblind was independent when they did the game for Sony?

I enjoyed Darksiders thoroughly when it first came out and probably won't be replaying it but it's a great freebie if you still haven't played it. The RPG elements and fast travel added to the sequel really made that game even better to me. Darksiders isn't terribly original (okay, not really original at all) but as a mashup of some of gaming's favorites it's just a lot of pure fun.

If you enjoy the original go ahead and pick up the sequel for an even better experience. I was disappointed to hear that it sold so poorly and don't really understand why. They're great "gamer's games" and are just fun to play if you don't analyze things too much.

As for Trophies, put me down in the camp that enjoys them. I think that most people do, too. There seems to be a small, but very vocal, minority that doesn't. Just let people have fun and enjoy what they like. If you don't like/need Trophies/Achievements why do you need to criticize those that do? I guess that's what the internet is for, though.

I think they can add things to do in games which is awesome but when they become e-prick waving it's ridiculous and annoying.

at first i thought trophies were silly, but the more i earned the more i thought it was pretty cool

it actuallly feels like i accomplished something rather than nothing because as much as we like games, they are a big time waster

i don't trophy hunt or try to get platinums, but i do kinda smile when i see one pop

Yeah, agreed. I also like the benefit of what others have stated as sort of an automatic digital scrapbook of your gaming history. Personally, I don't care about my achievements compared to others and just enjoy them for myself. It's fun to see what friends are doing in their games but I don't feel the need to one-up them. I would like achievement systems even if they were only displayed offline.

I've played video games for about 30 years now and for the vast majority of that time achievement systems didn't even exist. That didn't stop me from playing games all those years but I enjoy it now that I have it. It's just a fun modern amenity of games.

We all got by without cell phones and Facebook and still enjoyed life. However, now that we have things like that it's tough to turn back.

Hey guys I was wondering what website is a good website to see your overall world rank for trophies? I know True achievements is great for 360 and I use it all the time but is there something similar for Ps3? Just recently got into trophies a little for the games that are ps3 exclusives or for vita. Thanks for the help.

I use yourgamercards.net. Another popular one is psnprofiles.com. However, its database only tracks people who sign up so there could be someone who never signed up with a ton of trophies but I think most trophy hunters are signed up to one of those.
Darksiders??!? Why not Darksiders 2? Sucks!

Just kidding ;)

I have never played Darksiders, so this is will be awesome.
Darksiders is a joy -- the game unfolds much like a zelda game, but with solid combat (more along the lines of, say, god of war, for lack of a better comparison.)

Darksiders 2 is... ridiculously boring.

Is Gungnir a good buy at $15, or should I wait until it drops to $7.50?
Has anybody played Darksiders on PS3 and PC? Which one is better?
I've only played the 360 version, but reviews on Amazon indicate that it's best on PC even though there aren't too many graphical options.

I thought Darksiders' combat was very clunky, and overall movement was just lacking in smoothness. God of War seems to be the default comparison for general 3D action games, and I guess it still applies if you specify God of War 3 (also very clunky since they removed half the roll cancels). I also abhor the Zelda style since I don't like open world puzzles, but that's just me.

Still, it was a decent game, and 2 is in my backlog for whenever.
Has anybody played Darksiders on PS3 and PC? Which one is better?
The PC version has a higher framerate and resolution.

I just added playstation plus and was looking for infamous 2 to download for free. It's listed in the OP. Is it still a free game to download, since it's saying 19.99?
Is Gungnir a good buy at $15, or should I wait until it drops to $7.50?
Do you like SRPGs? They are my favorite genre. Gungnir is a solid one. I've enjoyed many of that developer's games and Gungnir was one of their better ones IMO. It's unforgiving - if you can enjoy that, I'd say it's easily worth $15.

I've liked the few I've played, but I've never played one by Sting. I suppose it depends on how unforgiving it is, but I think I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the impression.
I downloaded Mega Man 9/10, fired up 9... which reminded me that we had bought it on Wii. MM9 is impossible. I enjoyed MM10 much more, primarily due to easy mode.

Anyway, I also "purchased" Double Dragon Neon. Is it correct that it should download the "Demo"?
Definitely not impossible. MM9 was hard for sure, but as a veteran of the NES games I got through it in a couple days and loved every minute. Give it another chance on PS3, I can't imagine playing it on a Wiimote.

If you take the plunge, look over some guides really quickly before you get too far into the game. Gungnir won't hold your hand. You can make some decisions about how to build your characters early on in the game that can make it difficult to progress toward the end of the game.
They removed it (accidentally) and are adding it back this week I believe.
Thank you. Just finished the first one and am looking forward to 2

To add to the trophy discussion...I personally love trophies. I have avoided several games that don't have them. I know it results in me missing out on a lot of good games, but if MGS4 can be patched 4 years after release to add trophies, some of those other oldies out there can do it too.

I use PSN Profiles, mostly because I like to track my own stuff, and I like their interface better than YGC. I'm not really concerned with what other people are doing, but I like to see my progress on games. Also, with the inclusion of trophies and achievements, if I get 100% in something, it makes me have a better sense of knowing I've done most of what that game wants me to do. This isn't the case with older games, but RPGs that have database or % completion trophies are ones that I like. Star Ocean is a good example.

Thats a nice little stat site. IEh, i do wish that sony let you track the time to say how long you played and the total amount. Do they have ones for xbl and steam?

I just tried PSN Profiles and it seems to be missing most of my (small number of) trophies. Same with Raptr, though. Not sure what the issue is.

This I don't get. I have been playing games for 30 years or more. Never felt like I wasted time or needed to feel like I accomplished anything. I play games because they are my choice for entertainment. I don't watch movies or follow tv shows. Games are my hobby, the fun I have with them is my accomplishment.

They removed it last week accidentally from the IGC but will reinstate it today.
Our society spends too much time pursuing entertainment in my opinion. We'd all be living in the dark ages if great minds of the past spent as much daily pursuit to entertainment as we do.
A) Then why are you here?

B) We are not all "great minds"

C) Most of us end up at terrible jobs to make ends meet because the world isn't built to allow us time to sit and invent or philosophize. We need entertainment to help keep us sane at times.

D) The past you speak of ALSO had many people doing what made them happy to keep sane while they toiled away in the muck all day. That's simply how it's always been and still is to this day.

I'm not suggesting some of us might not accomplish things if we avoided the things that make us happy to pursue some greater good. But many people would also be crushed under the weight of working then coming home to try and solve great problems.

I don't really care for trophies/achievements, but it's nice for completionists or those that want to show off their e-peen.

Personally, it just shows that you have a lot of free time.

Yes and no. I won't avoid a game if they don't have them. Achievements in general I like because in games I often did stuff like that anyway just for personal "achievements" like 100% or back on SNES reaching max level in an RPG. Now I just play and get what I get, if I see one I'd like to get or think I can do it I'll do it. Howevr I won't go out of my way to get ALL of them especially if the last one is just stupid hard or annoying.

yes they are entertainment and i also prefer them to movies and tv, especially since i don't think either have been good since the 90's

but video games are a waste of time whether you want to think of them that way or not, the same can be said about basically any hobby that doesn't make you money or improve your life

Ditto

I like trophies/achievements simply as a way of seeing what others play, when they play it, and how devoted they are to it. I also like the idea of knowing what specifics my friend accomplished so I can see if I can match it (and vice versa). I don't like the idea of an overall cumulative number that indicates some sort of rank amongst friends or the population at large. That cumulative number encourages people to do dumb things like play games or parts of games they would never be interested in solely in the pursuit of adding to their overall gamerscore, etc. Hannah Montana is way too popular on achievement lists...

Only if you regret doing something is it a waste of time. Do things you love and you will never waste a minute. Also, do not let anyone tell what is or is not a good use of your time. They have their own and they cannot have mine. :)

All entertainment improves your life as it makes you happy and relieves stress. Don't quite understand why you don't get that. But I'd add that you also aren't really in a position to tell other people what is a waste of THEIR time.
Do you like SRPGs? They are my favorite genre. Gungnir is a solid one. I've enjoyed many of that developer's games and Gungnir was one of their better ones IMO. It's unforgiving - if you can enjoy that, I'd say it's easily worth $15.
Then you'd be a good person to ask. Gungnir or Growlanser for PSP? In your opinion of course
Then why are you showing off your trophies in your sig?
How am I showing off my trophies? They just happen to be there by displaying my PSN and Steam name. I didn't mean to offend anyone by saying how people spend their free time, just saying along the lines of, "I played these games."

AFAIK, there's no way to not display your trophies on the Gamercard.

Derrick the Deathfin is going to be 25% off with the update today, which makes it $5.99, I think.
Yeah, should be $5.99 once the update hits. It's a fun and good looking game, but I'd actually recommend holding out for a slightly larger discount if you have a sizeable backlog.

I think it released with a 20% off PS+ discount as well, I'm surprised it's not 50% off this time around.

EDIT: It was actually 30% off for PS+ at release.
