THIS. Thank you for answering my question.

Just finished La Pucelle Tactics (PS2) a couple of nights ago. Now that it's $9.99 on PSN, I would recommend it to any NIS fan.

It's no Disgaea, but it is still a pretty solid tactical RPG; I'd put it at a 7/10. Instead of creating characters, all characters you recruit are monsters you capture in battle, which is a nice change, but it leaves character customization a bit dry when you can't reincarnate and such. The story touches on some interesting themes (religion, blind faith, witch hunts, a full explanation of the enemy's motives rather than just being "evil"), but they could have done more to explore some of those themes.

Onto Makai Kingdom next...
THIS. Thank you for answering my question.
No prob. :)

I keep waffling on if I want to pick up a few of these to play on the go and for the faster loading times even though I own them all on disc. So I'm really aware of when my time runs out.
Closure looks like a lot of fun and freebie days are always exciting. Why the heck would anyone want the weekly schedule to change?
No idea. Most the people who have suggested it said they're tired of "weekly disappointments" and would rather get it all out at once. Which is terrible logic. Maybe someone here can give a slightly better reason as to why they'd prefer monthly updates over weekly ones?

I'm not seeing a lot of feedback on Derrick the Deathfin? The trailer looks neat and it's only $4. Does anyone have any thoughts on the full game?

I'm definitely tempted by the confusingly "new" fourth game called Alien Breed. I'm a sucker for classic games and I never played the original. $8 is still too high for me to bite on it for now. I'll wait for $5 or less and, judging from the path the other 3 have taken, I don't think I'll be waiting too long.
Derrick the Deathfin is a good amount of fun. There are about 32 short levels, where the goal is to get from the beginning to the end of the level without dying. You have a "Hunger Timer" that quickly drains, so you have to be eating other fish frequently or collecting gems, otherwise you'll die. Gems and flaming tires are the two collectibles in the game, and each level gives you a bronze/silver/gold rank after you complete it, so there is a little bit of replay value if you want to go for 100% of the trophies. I'd say it took me about 5 hours to 100% the game.

The controls are pretty decent, they just take a little getting used to. It's a cute, fun little game that I'd say is worth $4.

People want the monthly PS Plus update to evaluate whether they want to renew/buy a subscription. Still dumb, but i'm sure that's some of the logic behind it.

Derrick the Deathfin seems like it would have been a better fit on the Vita. It almost looks like a precursor to Tearaway.

The reason I thought they should bring it back is because when we see EU get a laundry list of sweet games and all we're getting that same week is some PSN game noone cares about it really compounds the problem. Sure, we'll still have a huge gap in quality but at least we'll have 1 week to look forward to instead of 3 weeks of disappointment and 1 week of surprise. Just look at the pole numbers. It's week after week of people not thrilled about anything... then we get 1 week of good stuff. Clearly the every week update isn't giving most people confidence in PS+.

The amazing Pinball Arcade has added a new pack #7, Scared Stiff & Big Shot. Twilight Zone also got released last week. Putting the word out for all the pinball fans out there.
anyone know if CLADUN: This is an RPG! is worth $10?
Reviews say "yes" (78 Metacritic average), haven't tried it out yet but was thinking about getting both it and Cladun x2 as they're each $9.99 through Gamestop.com download. It seems right up my alley but maybe someone here has played it and could elaborate on its strengths.

Am I the only one who really wants to give these games a shot but refuses to due to the prices of the tables?
Am I the only one who really wants to give these games a shot but refuses to due to the prices of the tables?
Tables are actually the same price as Zen Pinball at $2.50 each. Except of course the Twilight Zone and Star Trek: TNG tables, which were premium licenses. They are well worth it in my opinion. Physics and gameplay are spot on to the originals.

I'm tempted to finally get Critter Crunch. $1.40 is a steal. I enjoyed the demo too.

I'm in the process of knockin' out my backlog though. Down to 14 games. I'm hesitant about addin' another to the list.

How long is the SP for Critter Crunch?

Any opinions on heroes of might and magic on ps3 vs ios?

It's $7.49 psn vs $4.99 ios currently. I don't have an ipad to play on, which touch arcade says is the way to go but wanted to see if there were other opinions?

How often will you be playing outside of your home? If your going to play at your place more often then not, I would just recommend it on your bigscreen since you don't have an ipad.

Man I haven't been to Toucharcade in years, might check it out again even though I don't use my ipod anymore. I bet mostly everyone I know left.

I agree that the weekly updates haven't given a lot of people confidence in PS+ (well people on the PS Blog anyway), but I'd have to disagree with pretty much everything else.

The whole "3 weeks of disappointment" is going to vary from person to person. As for the polls, I don't trust them. How many people are going to vote "Nothing for me this week" then still download Closure and buy Critter Crunch? My guess is a lot, but they're still going to vote "Nothing for me" because they want to see change in the program, as if magically somehow PS+ is going fulfill the wants of every person all the time.

As for the "disappointment" in general, I just think it's unfair. Even if you paid full price for PS+, you'll be getting access to 5 free games this month for $4.17, (not to mention quality discounts on other games). Regardless of what other regions are getting, being disappointed in 5 games for $4.17 is a gross sense of entitlement to me, and it's almost sickening to me to think how ungrateful people are with this program. Nobody needs to argue this fact with me because they're not going to change my mind. Yes I'm a white knight for Sony when it comes to the PS+ program, and I'm proud to be because I think the PS+ program is that good. I hope that anyone who honestly feels disappointed in PS+ lets their subscription lapse and doesn't ever bother signing up for it again.
The only good reason I saw is that we may know about discounts earlier. However, as someone who doesn't buy games unless they're on sale, I don't really care.
I'm in the same boat, but I guess it could be good for others to know what's coming ahead of time. However, I guarantee it will just lead to problems of promised deals that don't come through. The PS Blog can't even keep straight what's being released on a week-to-week basis, exampled by them mentioning in several different posts that Urban Trials was coming out this week. There's no way they'll be able to maintain forecasts for a full month.
I like monthly posts about all the stuff. Gets all the bellyaching out at once. Then come the actual release of games, if someone whines everyone will jump on them with "yeah we've known about it for weeks, moron". Like the trolls turn on trolls.
I guess this could be one positive to going to a monthly update, it would hopefully cut down on the whining. But I look at EU PS+, they got all 3 of their PS3 games on Feb. 3rd. Now for all of those PS+ member who don't own a Vita, they have nothing to look forward to (except maybe a couple discounts) until early March. I much prefer having something to look forward to every week.

Anyways, thanks for your input guys.

I still dont get the amount of bitching over an optional service for about $4.16 a month if you pay full price. And even non CAGs have had ample opportunity to get plus for less than that due to several deals like an additional 3 months etc.

The auto DLs, patches and trophy synch alone are worth it for me. On top of that I still have about 10-15 free or deeply discounted games DL to my PS3 and more I can DL later for free that I havent touched yet due to my backlog. And these are the games I actually want to play. There have been a ton more that have been offered up for free that I couldnt care less about.

I agree, La Pucelle is great. I just wish that the other characters would make appearances in other NIS games besides just Prier (especially Croix). Fun game, good plot, great characters, and the Warp Engine! One of the best pieces of equipment in a game (after the Horse Wiener).

it is a great game and i made a huge mistake getting it for 360, it hasn't gotten any new tables since last summer and i don't know if it ever will
I had no idea that was there. Thanks for the heads-up! :)

Is there a direct link you are working from or are you just looking here:
http://www.gamestop.com/browse/games/sony-psp?nav=28-wa2,1388-ffff2418-51
Frisky has helpfully created direct links to each game on the first page of this thread. It's in the Alternate Deals section on the fifth post down. I never paid attention previously because as I scrolled through, I just glanced at the MSRP prices for PSN cards and went "meh", not noticing the actual RPGs on sale.

I did notice that you can also find them through Gamestop.com's search function, but you'll get more results and have to kind of sift through them. It's easier for me to just right click off of the links on the first page of this thread and open the results for each game I want in a new tab.
it is a great game and i made a huge mistake getting it for 360, it hasn't gotten any new tables since last summer and i don't know if it ever will
Their publisher for the Xbox 360 version went bankrupt a while back and are trying to negotiate the final transfer of legality blah blah for them to start putting the table again with another publisher or themselves if MS lets them.
You're 100% right. The value far outweighs the cost but most consumers aren't that bright to even understand that. (Like grocery shopping smartly by buying the amount of product you want that has the lowest cost per ounce.)

However, consumers always want more, something for nothing, and to compare compare compare. Not to mention the majority is always the least vocal. I know 6 people on plus right now who don't know what a ps blog is and love the service as do I.
Make no mistake... I'm not saying the value isn't there. What I am saying is the delivery of that value through the blog is handled poorly. Just look at the lack of moderation and control over there. Plus, I don't know why anyone would be in favor of getting less of something for the same amount. Sure it may still be a great deal but who wants to get 5lbs of awesome when others are getting 8lbs for the same money. So, I'm in favor of getting as much info as early as possible. Thus, the once a month preview is better. And it will also heavily cut down the number of times I may accidentally read the comments at the bottom of the blog.

@ Tylerh1701

There is only 1 reason why they should go monthly and that is to manage expectations better. There is no doubt that EU has "bad" or "loser" weeks like we do, but the weekly offering is ALWAYS compared to the best offering in EU.

Week 1 Guardians (despite EU getting this title...) vs Sleeping Dogs.
Week 2 Closure (didn't EU also get this one too?) vs Sleeping Dogs.
Week 3 Whatever game vs Sleeping Dogs.
Week 4 Assuming week 3 doesn't contain a "whine" (Game EU got and people complain about in the US) title vs Sleeping Dogs.

If we get 1 monthly update, then we can see if we have a game that "stacks up" to the EU offerings and there will MOST LIKELY be less complainers.

@ Wrencrest

As others have already mentioned, the majority is typically the least vocal. Most plus buyers might wish they got a random title another region got (like Hells Yeah!), but these people aren't going to complain. I typically have or have no interest in whatever the new game is, but I still generally appreciate the effort.

As far as why it happens, a lot of people want to live in an idolized world. If you and another kid pay roughly the same price for an ice cream cone, but the other kid gets another scoop, then you're most likely going to wonder why / assume you're entitled to the same thing. Thats a lot of what we're seeing with Plus. People don't exactly want the same offers as Europe, they just want roughly the same "quality". As I typically mention to these people, Japan / Asia pay more and get less, so be happy you're not the worst plus.

I think the majority of PS+ users rate the service solely on what free games we get, which is incredibly dumb. The free games aren't always appealing to me, but the discounts, automatic updates, cloud saves, and more make up for it.
.

.
Agree with everything you both said. I'll only chip in, and yet again remind everyone that Sony isn't doing us any favors. Some of you act as if they're giving dowries for our youngest daughters and that refusing them is impolite. Please. This is a PAID service. I am entitled to feel entitled, regardless of what they're charging. I normally couldn't care less because I already own a gratuitous amount of games, but I sympathize with people solely relying on it (especially vita-only peeps). It's less about the amount of games and more about the quality. Had I not already played and beaten Sleeping Dogs I'd be feeling sort of miffed about it as well, but again, I personally don't care.

I think you're on to something here, and that is that many of the same consumers who are going to see value in a smart purchase like a PS+ subscription are also going to be a little more shrewd as consumers and will be likely to be critical of what they get for their money (or actively compare what they get to what others get).
I think the majority of PS+ users rate the service solely on what free games we get, which is incredibly dumb. The free games aren't always appealing to me, but the discounts, automatic updates, cloud saves, and more make up for it.
It may seem dumb, but doesn't Sony encourage that type of thinking? Aren't the free games always promoted as the foremost reason to have a PS+ subscription?

I mean, look here: http://us.playstation.com/

Two of the three bullet points listed to advertise the service (and they're the top two listed) concern free games. In the upper right hand corner, there's a separate PS+ advertisement boasting 18 free games for under $5 per month. Don't you think that people see PS+ as primarily a free game service at least partially because it's promoted that way?
Maybe someone here can give a slightly better reason as to why they'd prefer monthly updates over weekly ones?
imo it's because EU does monthly. so once a month, EU gets a pile of games, and we only get a weeks worth (say, 1 game). So people freak out uncontrollably, screaming how EU gets all that and we just get a ps1 classic or something.

Nevermind that 3 other weeks we get stuff and they don't... because once a month, like clockwork, the freakout happens.

I think the only time I've been disappointed in their selection of games is when they offer titles I've already bought for platform.

Beyond that, what are you paying for? Cloud saves clearly qualify as a service being provided for you. But paying an annual fee to qualify for discounts? That's a bit questionable as a primary motivating factor. Automatic updates should be a given for everyone given how awfully slow the PS3 updating is. If the betas they offered were truly betas, wouldn't they want as many people as possible to be playing it? I can't blame Sony for simply offering some additional bullet points to sell the service.

I have to say I've been really happy with the service ever since I've signed up simply for the cloud saves and "free" games alone.
Am I the only one who really wants to give these games a shot but refuses to due to the prices of the tables?
Tables on pinball arcade are an absolute steal at 2.50 each. That's only 5 games if the table is set to 50 cents at the arcade, and you'd drop that on a table in a heartbeat. having excellent reproductions on your tv and handheld? priceless.

Granted, i'm waiting for a sale on some of the tables i don't know much about, but tables like Medieval Madness and Twilight Zone are easy buys.

One really nice thing about this thread is that everyone is pretty much able to express their opinions rationally and like an adult. I may almost 100% disagree with some of you, but thanks for your input guys, I find it interesting to see what everyone thinks.

Unrelated, I played Critter Crunch for about an hour last night. It's very.....interesting.

I love the game, but I think its pretty shady that they used a Kickstarter to come up with money for the Twilight Zone license, and then turn around and ask double for it when it releases. I will still buy it eventually, but i'll make damn sure to game share it.

Agreed on the level of maturity around here.

Critter Crunch... how many different modes does that have? Is it all just eat bugs and vomit rainbows into other bugs?

huh? i just checked. anyone who met even the first level of kickstarter got a copy for free. and if someone didn't contribute, why should the contributors reduce the amount the non-contributor should pay?

Also, do we know how much they paid for the license? It's quite possible the kickstarter funs only made it possible, but didn't cover the entirety.

Don't get me wrong, i wish all tables were cheaper just because... but that doesn't it make them not worth it.

Just incase, I pledge the lowest in that kickstarter and got the table with the pro upgrade and the twilight ball. I believe the cost of the kickstarter was the actual cost of the licence itself from what little I can remember. The table they had to buy was for themselves and their research. They probably won't do another since they those two table (twilight and Star trek) was the ones in the highest demand. I want the Adam family but it's not that high in demand.

The bitching comes from rewards not aligning with what is expected. Not everyone cares about the free games the US gets because they may already have it or don't want what is offered that week. Once locked in, that weekly 'need' to justify the purchase is often unfulfilled or worse, overshadowed by the EU. I personally have not played a single free game from PS+ except Simpson's Arcade, so I'd fall into the unsatisfied category and I'm not alone. Just because content is given does not mean people are happy with it.

Also, I wouldn't even have a sub if not for the Target price mistake over a year ago and once my final year is up, I will not be subscribing again barring another huge discount I'd be mad to pass up. I will say the one and only feature I do enjoy is cloud saves, but one could argue this should be a default feature nowadays.

Well, it's not so much that I'm paying an annual fee to qualify for discounts, it's the fact that I'm getting discounts and features on top of the free games. I would guess that the average PS+ bought PS+ because of the fact that they'll get free games, and while that was the primary drawing factor for me as well, it wasn't the sole reason I wanted PS+.

How can you be unsatisfied if you've never played any of the free games? You're missing out on some gems.

I hate weeks like this. I'm getting:
Rayman 3
Derrick the Deathfin
Ecolibrium

Three more games to the backlog!
anyone know if CLADUN: This is an RPG! is worth $10?
I've only played the original Cladun, but from the reviews I've read, x2 is pretty much a rehash of the original with more content. You'd probably be best off just getting x2.

So far, the only ps+ feature I'm using, aside from some of the free games, is cloud saving, and solely to clear up icons on my vita. It's absolutely terrible that there is no alternative. The rest of the features I don't care about.

Oh, and I have to absolutely recommend against Big Sky Infinity. It's fun, but there are so many BS deaths to absolutely nothing on the screen that you'll just throw up your arms in disgust...

If there's nothing you've been happy with except for Simpsons Arcade, PS+ is probably not for you. Good thing you only paid $15 or so for it.

You probably wouldn't be the best person to answer this since you got your subscription for so cheap, but I'm curious what people like you (who paid full price) were expecting when signing up for PS+?

I downloaded the Big Sky demo last night, but from what I've heard from you and others, I won't enjoy it. It's funny, I almost want to not enjoy it, so I can justify spending $9 on Knytt instead.

Been wanting From Dust for awhile.... I have a strong inclination that it will be cheaper on either XBL or PSN eventually but I'm thinking it's still awhile away. Either way I might just skip it. For sure picking up Critter Crunch however and hopefully my girlfriend enjoys it too cause she loves puzzle games.

Video pinball is not the same as real pinball though. As realistic as the physics may be, its just not the same experience. I like the Zen Pinball better because the tables are crazy and I can't compare it to the actual real life table.
No prob. :)

I keep waffling on if I want to pick up a few of these to play on the go and for the faster loading times even though I own them all on disc. So I'm really aware of when my time runs out.
I'm the same way. I'm picking up the ff collection at least. I'm not sure if I'll get War of the Lions or not.

On twitter Sleeping Dogs actually trended when it was announced as the EU free game. It ended up being great for EU and pretty rough for US as the tweets were all about how disappointed people are that they don't feel they are getting the same value.

Hard to say if monthly would make anything better, but Sony does need to pay attention to the perception whether you defenders of the service like it or not.

I was expecting to save money in the long run. I bought the 3 month sub initially solely to take advantage of a sale and saved more than that just on last year's FF sale. Already a win for me.
Re-upped for a year at full price. Got Uncharted Vita and Wipeout Vita free. Again already worth it for me (I would have waited- and waited more- and hopefully paid 30 total for them if they went on non-PS+ sale). I'm sure I got $20 more in value somewhere so far.

You guys don't get flipper lag with Pinball Arcade? I tried to transition to the PSN versions from 360, but I found them unplayable on the PS3 due to lag in the exact same setup that had none on the 360.

Their stance on it might depends on the television being used. I dunno about that since I do feel the lag on the ps3 version and not on the xbox 360 and the Vita version.

As someone who recently joined, I would say PS+ is absolutely worth it. Free games are a nice bonus but the best feature to me is the ability to download and installing patches/updates overnight. You also get some pretty solid discounts. I'm only paying $2.66 a month which in my opinion is not bad for what I'm getting.

PS+ still has a way to go to catch up to XBL but it certainly is impressive. A definite move in the right direction by Sony.
