Thanks Frisky, didn't mean to come off rude. Just noticed that the OP hadn't been updated so I thought I'd ask.

Thanks for your work on this thread. :)

Grandia's normal $10.

Wolf of the Battlefield's an alright arcade shooter for $3, though I'd suggest getting Rocketmen before that game if you have the option and only want one. You can check out the demo on XBLA to see if $3 is worth it for you.

Trine is a must have for anybody that likes action-puzzle-platformers.
Good to know about Grandia. Odd that it's marked 50% off but listed as $5.99. Someone at Sony is apparently bad at math. Nevertheless, sounds like I should probably take advantage while it's on sale. I thought I had it on DC but I double checked and it's Grandia II.

Got the demo qued up for Trine and will definitely check it out. I already have it thanks to Humble Indie Bundle #2(I think-might have been 3), but I don't play too much on my PC so I'd probably rather play it on a console.
I'm still debating on Commando 3 myself. For $3 though, even if I play it for all of an hour I'll have my value back on it.;)
Agreed. It doesn't take a whole lot of time to get my value out of a game for a few dollars. (Save for iPhone games. Man I'm spoiled on that platform!)
Isn't Final Fight on PSN one of those Capcom games that REQUIRES you to be connected to PSN to play it though?

Why yes, yes it is.

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/21/ps3-final-fight-double-impact-requires-psn-connection/
Excellent point. If you have the option buy it on 360 instead. It has been on sale a few times now (just recently IIRC) and I would expect another sale sometime down the road if you have missed it before.
Everyone should be aware that some of the newer Capcom PSN releases like Final Fight/Double Impact and Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 require you to be signed into PSN or you can't play at all. Even single player. So... if you ever have internet trouble, PSN gets hacked again, or they ever drop PS3 support after PS4 is released you can't play these games at all.
Say what? That's terrible. If you buy something you should OWN it and be able to access it whenever you want.

Isn't capcom having a sale also? I bought ssf2 hd remix for 4.99 (reg price 9.99) and then i ended up buying super puzzle fighter 2 hd remix for 4.99 also. My friend also mentioned that the ssf4 ae dlc is now 10 instead of the regular 15.

There was never an announced Capcom sale, but these discounts definitely have a Capcom flavor to them.
Should I skip trine and go straight for the sequel? Does sequel have online coop?
No I wouldn't necessarily skip it. I would say Trine 1 is still worth playing through, especially for only $5. The original is still quite good; the main improvements to the sequel are the addition of online co-op, and some more minor iterative things (fairly improved graphics, more diversity in interacting with the environment, etc.)

Both of them have platinum trophies (a rarity in downloadable titles) as well, if you're into that. I have the platinum in the original game, it was a lot of fun to get.

Trine for $5 is awesome. Trine is my favorite PSN game still. It has a plat trophy if you care. I will definitely be getting Trine 2 soon to support Frozenbyte, and now Atlus teamed up with them?

Earthworm Jim HD, tempting because I loved it on SNES, but the demo on PSN kicked my ass. I couldn't even beat the demo it's so hard. I beat Mega Man 9 + 10 demos...so hmm

Tales of Monkey Island bundle for $5 is extremely tempting. $5 isn't much of a loss, but watch PS+ make it a free game next month with my luck. Buck an episode can't really argue with that, so I'm in! Now Sam & Max need to go on sale.

I will get Tales of Monkey Island bundle for $5. It's only a $1 per episode. There's a good chance it could go FREE for PS+ members at some point.

Is the $5 price on a Trine permanent? I'm very interested in game. Looks like a lot of fun.

Ditto on the excellence of trine 1. It is one of the 4 plats I actually have. The "make 1000 objects with the wizard" trophy is really stupid tho.

should I get Trine if I have PS+ I have it for another year and there have already been a ton of games I already own up for free.... like burn zombie burn, crash commando, mushroom wars, and probably like 5 other games.

but for 5 bucks it seems sweet.

and earthworm jim, i almost beat it on SNES, but yeah its harder now. wow. age of booty, wtf is that? getting the demo now.

Picked up Tales of Monkey Island bundle and Trine if I didn't already own it. If you ever played Lost Vikings on SNES, you owe it to give Trine a try!

Sad Grandia was even $10 to start, I always thought that was way too much for PS1 games. Suikoden was $3 when on sale, so double dip for a digital copy doesn't sound so bad, but I can't bite on a $6 Grandia. I'm still waiting for PS2 Classics to jump from $10, I dread the day that happens.

Just noticed this for PS+ members (like $10.49 for non PS+):
Section 8: Prejudice Holiday Bundle - $7.34 - Includes Section 8 and Section 8: Prejudice
That looks like 2 full PSN games. These worth it / fun games? $3.76 per game I might give it a shot if someone recommends.

Sonic Adventure bundle, what is this exactly? I own Sonic Adventure DX Directors Cut on Gamecube, this the same game? And Sonic Adventure 2: Battles. No real interest to buy these titles again heh.

section 8 campaigns are pretty fun, but very quick. the online is awesome when you get into it. if you like jetpack space FPS. both games are a bit different on the mechanics. the second one uses a rock paper scissor varient with shield/health having seperate weapons to combat them...

i have been meaning to jump back into them but i have a giant backlog and id rather finish some disc games and get more trade value back.

Wow, so I bought the LA Noire bundle, and it fails to install at 14% every time. Check the us.playstation boards and apparently it isn't just me. To top it all off, this failed install somehow upset my hdd in a way that left me with no option but to reformat.

450GB of stuff gone

Merry fucking Christmas :wall:

I think that some publishers or Sony charge a premium on certain games. I used to believe that they charged the $9.99 price on games that were multiple discs to help cover the cost of hosting it on the server, but Square Enix is charging $9.99 each for the PS1 versions of Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, and Final Fantasy VI. These were originally bundled together in Final Fantasy Chronicles and Final Fantasy Anthology. Not to mention, these are not exactly the optimal way to experience these games either since the original SNES ROM's did not have the horrendous loading times that the PS1 disc brought to these classics. So honestly, it's probably on a case by case basis.

I am glad that Sony does offer PS One Classics, but I really wish they would learn by the example of Steam or GOG.com. The sales on these PS One Classics are pretty infrequent in comparison, and they should be doing a limited time 50% off every single title to encourage consumer spending. They would easily make enough sales in volume to justify the maneuver, but instead we see the occasional title drop 40-50% for a week.

They charge 9.99 because they can. I think its that simple. Final Fantasy games will likely sell at any price so they might as well charge what they can. Sucks for us though.

I've had this happen before. Did you set it to download in background? That's what was causing the problem for me. If you just let it download and install, they usually work. How did it upset your hard drive though?

Its exactly this. Even downloadable games aren't safe from Square Enix tax.FF7 still pops up on top downloads all the time, its insane.

Steer clear of PS1/PSN version FF6 and CT, and FF4 if they put that on there too. Aside from the loading they have slowdown, the music skips and sometimes will get stuck for a few seconds on one part. It also censors some really pivotal character development scenes.

Its heartbreaking when you know how quick things used to be. Loading before and after battles, and every time you push the menu button literally adds hours of extra time that you aren't even playing.

I wasn't aware of that slowdown. FF6 is the Steampunk game with the Mechs in the beginning that was on SNES? I guess I'll play that on my HP Touchpad with the emulator then. I think I can play Chrono Trigger too with the Touchpad.
They remade FF4 for the PSP, right? That version is good, no?

Yea, I played about half of the PSP version and I thought it was really good. Much better than the DS remake.

Sadly I think the SNES versions will always be the definitive ones for these games, but at least they are easy to emulate.

No the PSP version of FF IV is the BEST one, period. The FF4 port is the GBA one that adds a whole bunch of stuff but the graphics are also updated and it includes the full sequel The After Years, which is only available on that PSP collection or via Wii Ware for like $30-$40 by itself once you buy all the chapters piecemeal.

I tried it both ways, as I had that problem once before. I'm not sure what happened exactly, but during the last install I tried it froze up the system and restarted with a "file system corrupt" message, which led to a "corrupt, must restore", which led to an inevitable format. I've dealt with problems on a lot of PS3s for friends and family, and believe me, I tried just about everything to avoid that format. Thats 4 years of saves down the drain because my only backup just died recently and I had yet to make another.

Seems to be a store problem for sure, so anyone considering the digital version of LA Noire should probably expect not to play it for a bit.

Got TOMI to work without a problem. Took a few tries, but mission accomplished. Just need a good Sam & Max sale now; love me some Telltale games.

If you pre-ordered Renegade Ops during the PSN Play promotion, check your PSN inbox if you haven't for a while since they sent out PMs last week with the link to get your pre-order bonus DLC that's available now.

I'm thinking of picking up Darkstalkers Chronicle for my upcoming Christmas day roadtrip. Reading old reviews, a lot of them mention load times. Does that still exist in the PSN version to anyone's knowledge?

Also, having never played Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VI back on SNES (I had already moved on to Sega CD gaming at the time - don't laugh!), do you think the load times would be that noticeable?

Thanks for any input!

Awesome games, get them!

Why are these PSN sales not as good as the 360 sales. I didn't go and compare everything but I noticed renegade ops on the PS3 store and thought 'WTF?'. They are giving normal players this game for $11.99, PS Plus members get this for $8.99, and BOTH silver and gold Xbox members get it for 7.50. What a disgrace.

Not sure on FF6, but with Chrono Trigger, you will definitely notice the loading. But its really terrible if you know how quick the original and ds port is.

If you have played any classic JRPGs before you will notice the load times. It is REALLY annoying to play an old school JRPG where every 5 steps you have a battle and the game stutters/loads for at least a second or two EVERY TIME.

yeah that totally sucks. i remember getting the ps1 versions of both those games, and especially ct my favorite rpg, it was just killer. I never played through it because id rather youtube the fmv's then play through that game with terrible loading. I would plug my snes back in to play it, or now i play it on laptop/ds, but the ps loading in those games is horrendous.

that said, you really should play them if you never have before...fantastic games... and maybe you won't know how bad it is if you never played the originals.
Not sure on FF6, but with Chrono Trigger, you will definitely notice the loading. But its really terrible if you know how quick the original and ds port is.
That was a problem of porting cartridge games to disc media. Does anyone saying this actually own the digital downloads and know if this is still a problem on the emulated versions? A programmer with half a brain could've fixed the problem.

Then maybe you should, since it's Capcom's equivalent of Sony's Playstation blog.

Dude you are after my own heart. Tell me you played Lunar? That was one hell of a game, and it really makes me want to replay it. So badly.

I'm heartbroken about hearing that there is a massive amount of slowdown. IS it confirmed that this is an issue? I don't need to buy ff3/6 again, but don't want to recommend it if it is.

I'm still trying to figure out how the hell I managed to have the SNES and Sega CD... But I'm not going to complain ;)

Final Fantasy VI is a wonderful game and if the PS One Classic is the only way a person is going to experience that classic, then I can gladly recommend it. But if the person has ANY other way to experience the game - from the SNES original to the GBA remake, I would recommend that instead. I thought the FMV cutscenes for Final Fantasy VI on PS1 were a joy to watch, but there are only like 2-3 of them. You could easily go watch them on Youtube. The loading times really do impact the enjoyment of the game simply because of how frequent the battles are. They really could add hours to an already lengthy game.

That is my recommendation with an exceptionally large caveat.
Why can't PSN have sales like Steam.
I really don't want to pay 10 bucks for games that are over 10 years old..
