It does a good job of warming you up to the mechanics you'll need to know, and adds new ones as the game unfolds. p3 was very different from p1 and p2, but the mechanics took me no time to transition into way back when. There are loads of guides and wikis out there for optimal play, guides for fusing the best possible personas for each level, etc, but it's very enjoyable without any of that if you just want to play the game. I'd recommend you stay clear of wikis and guides your first playthrough anyway :) They just ruin the fun, exploration, experimentation. Lots of good laughs and drama to be found there.

There are social elements to it, but they're done a little differently than p4.

EDIT: PM me NinjaSquirrel. I want your paypal address. I bought someone else P3P the last time the Persona games went on sale, I'll buy you P3FES. If you end up really liking it, maybe you can buy it for someone else when it's on sale. Spread Persona 'round :)
tourista strikes again with the free persona!
Use the crippling moves and Dim Mak when you get them. It's the best way to farm Triad XP.
You mean the arm and leg breaking moves? I use those all the time.

BTW, since I know someone will chime in here about trophies being meaningless, blah, blah, blah. I'd just like to say that this is a game that does them right (at least so far). Most of them are related to maxing out "powers" and finding collectibles which are generally things I'd want to be doing anyway. The rest are story-related or for doing a few unique things (like shooting out a cop's tires which I have yet to do) that push you to try different, yet fun, things. When they are set up like this it really pushes me to go for 100%. So getting the DLC with trophies seems like a good idea - especially since they appear to be set up the same way. The games I do not even bother getting trophies for are ones with multiple difficulty-based trophies (I'm looking at you Bioshock series). That is just a time-consuming grind for me. I realize that to some people getting collectibles is a time-consuming grind but I generally enjoy that as long as they aren't nearly impossible to get. The map in this game makes them very reasonable.

I was a bit worried about the gold stat award trophies especially as I seem to have no way of knowing how to trigger them - but they are coming along slowly...

:) there are few things in life i truly commit to geeking out about... SMT and it's offshoots are on the shortlist.
must... spread... wide.

also, dude has a rad avatar. can't be ignored.

I agree that the trophies were pretty well done in general. A few things you have to do are a bit crazy though. Winning a million betting on the cock fights is a PITA (and it is that much at one time not over history, so losing counts against you). The stat award for getting kills while sliding over a surface was also ridiculous. I found the best way was to get my notorious level up and hide behind a counter in a convenience store. Then slide over the counter and kill a cop. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I am torn on getting the DLC to get to 100% trophies. I already had the plat before it became free on plus. Luckily I had gotten it from Gamefly and had not spent money on the disk. I am just not sure I will care for the supernatural spin Nightmare has.

I love the pay it forward attitude. It's great to see that on CAG.

no it can not luke...no it can not.

Just got through the mission parts of Wheels of Fury DLC. Took 20-30 minutes. Disappointed to find out that the vehicle can't be used for the main story stuff. It looked like there are about 20 different vehicle related activities that you can do while in the car, but once you get out of the car and move away from it, you basically get a mission failed screen and return to the main game. It would have been fun to use it in the street races from the main part of the game.

i'm a little buzzed on a new prescription atm... either i'm fuzzyheadedly failing to follow your reference or you've got me confused with a luke :p

Yeah, those two moves. The Gold Stats will mostly come from making it through the storyline, then re-playing missions while focusing on a few of them. I think the biggest pain is getting a million in gambling, which is best done through cockfighting. But, even then, it's not difficult.

fucking hell. i think it's bedtime. *blushes profusely, stumbles off to pillow*
'Splain please? I'm still playing through the main story and was hoping to plat it from that - are you saying you can't?

So you can of course do it via the main game - just might have to replay some missions.
Yeah, guess by this point you and others have already answered your initial question. It isn't a requirement, but I have no interest in grinding/replaying missions. I've literally only gone for a platinum in one other game -- Walking Dead, lol (which requires no effort). SD's trophies & collectibles were mostly so well done, though, that I didnt't mind keeping at them after i beat the campaign. I'm only missing 2 -- one of which is the annoying ass triad xp maxout. Which is really strange considering how easily and quickly I leveled up the cop side.
fucking hell. i think it's bedtime. *blushes profusely, stumbles off to pillow*
sounds about right lol. Drugs is a helluva drug.

Huge props to Tourista for giving me Persona! Really looking forward to this one, even if my backlog will surely kill me during the 80 or so hours it apparently takes to beat it:hot: But it will be worth it;)

Will be sure to remember this, and hopefully have a chance to help another CAG out:D

I'd be amazed if Sleeping Dogs doesn't get a sequel on name recognition alone. One of my favorite games this gen... and even if sales weren't quite was expected, it's easier to build on a franchise that has a fan base and name recognition than it is to start up a completely new one.

So I think I might hate Knytt Underground. I just got to chapter 2 and controlling whatever the hell I'm controlling is making me nuts. The first chapter seemed progressionless and a bit annoying. I don't understand what's happening. Someone please tell me I'm missing something. Or maybe someone that liked it explain what kind of game it is? Maybe I'm just approaching it wrong.

Believe it or not I think that this game plays better with a keyboard. It has this squirrelly movement that just suits arrow keys. Check out the original Knytt Stories (free, and will run on anything) to see what I mean.

The Knytt games are wonderfully designed. Wolfire Games' lead designer did a great video summing up why here:

The first 2 chapters are basically just prologues for the game, which starts in chapter 3 and I think they've said it's about 10x longer than chapters 1 or 2.

Controlling that ball is kind of a pain in the ass, but it really doesn't take that long to get through chapter 2. The game will come together a bit more in chapter 3. The game has an excellent map, but doesn't hold your hand at all. You will still be somewhat out of sorts when you get started on Chapter 3. But then things should start clicking for you after that.

I'd say put 60-90 minutes into chapter 3, and if you're still not feeling it, then maybe the games not for you.

Sort of gameplay spoilers for chapter 3 follow:
chapters one and two basically teach you how to use your two forms. In chapter three you gain the ability to transform from girl form to ball form at the touch of a button, and swapping between the two allows you to traverse areas in very different ways. There are tons of jumping puzzles relying on swapping back and forth while hurtling through the air and stuff like that.

Also, the story in the first two chapters is meant to be completely weird and incomprehensible. It's all done with a bit of a wink, as though Nicklas kept starting the game without knowing what the story was supposed to be. "And then there was an explosion" is a sort of joke amongst writers in that you can just plug it in whenever you get bad writers block and just move on. Sort of like "ROCKS FALL, EVERYONE DIES" in Dungeons and Dragons. The story in the third chapter, while still very whimsical, is far more cohesive and character driven.

Ok, pared down to this short list for DLC so far, any reason I shouldn't purchase one of these?
police protection pack
Deep undercover pack
Law Enforcer Pack
Drunken Fist Pack
Wheels of Fury
Zodiac Tournament
Year of the Snake
Nightmare in North Point

just wanted to chime in that there is a martial arts fighting place that you can get all the sliding over car/ledge kills in 5/10 mins. check the trophy guides, but i grinded that out asap and that was last gold challenge i needed. i still need to have my kids run around and buy all the clothes/cars/find all collectibles, lol. almost at 10,000 trophies, omg.

n yeah that triad xp was a bitch. i bit the bullet and got the gold xp pack even after running 15% triad bonus through whole game and still not maxing it out. i could have been running around shirtless with tats or in a suit, but no, stupid wifebeaters and baggy pants, lol.

No need to adjust your system--it really is a meh game. You likely have better games waiting to be played.

*Looks at the list of Sleeping Dogs DLC*

Um, will there ever be a bundle pack for all this? Possibly a GotY edition? In the meantime, which DLCs are most worth it? I'm guessing that the costume/weapon ones are not as important as the ones with extra missions/gameplay...

LOLOL, fortunately I was prepared for the "meh-ness" of the introductory chapters because of what people had posted in this thread a whole ago. No, I don't know what I'm doing and, yes, the story is obtuse as fuck, but I'll stick in there since you guys say it's worth it?
almost at 10,000 trophies, omg.
I saw that the other day and almost couldn't believe that. I got a couple other CAGs who are almost around there bouts. You guys are monsters at ripping through trophies. I'm almost at 2000 and don't think I will ever see 10K trophies unless I skip out on PS4 for a couple years.

thanx bro. yeah i dont know how it got that high. someone called me a loser in cod blops 2 the other day and i told him i have 5 kids, full time job, a house, a car, wife, party, vidgames, etc. so im doing just fine. if i didnt play cod id have a bunch more as iv been flying through games like tr, bioshock, dead island, etc.

also he was upset i went 37 n 5 k/d ratio, so that probly initiated the insults too, haha.

also didnt see anyone listing this, but Krieg the psycho out for bl2 today, woot. skill tree here. http://www.borderlands2.com/us/skilltree/psycho.html

also got a bunch of free trophies on star wars pinball, but i keep getting kicked offline and seems i need to be online to get lots of those, doh. oh wells. peace all.
also it seems bit glitched, i have no friends playing these tables yet but i got 'master of the force' gold trophy for having highest force score among friends and 'your powers are weak' for beating 10 friends on any table. i thought that would be hard to beat 10 friends on a table, but seems not cuz i got it after first game, lol.

i was hoping for a cool 10,000 trophy, but seems like probly di riptide plat. peace all

It's a unique game and definitely not for everyone. Like I mentioned earlier, give the 3rd chapter an hour of your time and if the game hasn't sucked you in, then it might not be for you.

Played a bit of Jacob Jones and the Bigfoot Mystery and it seems really neat so far. I'm just about done with the first night and so far, it's basically a bite-sized Professor Layton. I've solved six puzzles so far that were mostly simple so far, which is about a fourth of what's there from what the puzzle section of the pause menu tells me. When you submit a solution for the puzzle, it does that tense, dramatic pause before telling you that you got it right or wrong that Layton is known for. The art style is a great use of a papercraft look with a mix of what I would describe as being similar to Costume Quest's art style. The story is fully-voiced, which I thought was well done though I'd have liked to see an auto-progress feature so it flows more naturally.

Outside of the puzzles, the game has a couple of collectibles with these birds that you'll find all around the place and soda cans. The cans are what I believe are the equivalent to Layton's hint coins, so you definitely want to find all of the cans that you can. They're hidden fairly well, so you do have to swipe the screen around and tilt the Vita to be able to see them all. The trophies seem to be easy enough with progress trophies, collectible trophies, and trophies for beating certain puzzles with the least amount of moves possible, which you can retry them later in the pause menu at any time.

Thanks, sounds pretty sweet.

well if anyone was actually interested in downloading the Tiny Token Wars (or whatever it's called, I can't even remember now) don't. It's not good, and should be allowed to slip quietly into the unknown...

On a different note, I finally used the online download queue option today, and it seems they now start the download as soon as you sign in. I turned on my PS3, signed into PSN, and was greeted with a message saying I had items to download. Not bad sony, not bad at all;)

From all accounts, its sounds like Sleeping Dogs is well-liked enough and has enough DLC that a GOTY/Complete version would make sense...

On the other hand, would it make sense after it's been added to the PS+ Instant Game Library?

Somebody needs to build a time machine and let me know!!!
This is not accurate. Once you beat the dlc you can find that car in your garage as one of the last vehicles.
thanx bro. yeah i dont know how it got that high. someone called me a loser in cod blops 2 the other day and i told him i have 5 kids, full time job, a house, a car, wife, party, vidgames, etc.

I would love to see Rayman and Kingdoms on US+.
love to see something worth playing on the vita in the us (downloaded both psp games last night zombie and the underground) and did not care for any of them,....

It's weird how KoA keeps getting a revival every few months. It's the little (multi million dollar) game that could! I too would like those games in the IGC, but I won't complain if we don't get them since they're two of the rare games I've actually finished.

If you want something worth playing on the vita and nothing in the PS+ IGC has fit the bill for you you're probably better off actually buying something than waiting for them to come through. I've been pretty happy with the selection so far.

what is IGC

did find a few things to buy that i do play on my vita but hopefully more free stuff in june or at least sales... trying to stay away from PS1 classics on the vita after the entire FF 1-2 thing ( game does not fit screen an if you make it fit its just a blurry mess.... of the 5 games i got only 1 or 2 are not blurred

That and i NEED TO LEARN FRom my entire DSI 3ds mistakes and Play before rebuying ... what i mean by that is i just buy and buy and buy on my dsi 3ds and never played them that much and probally blew 150 bucks on downloads over there and never really played them... on the VITA what i want to do is play the games from start to finish before buying something new ...

have now
FF 1-2 (what is a blurred mess) paid 10
Mana Khemia: Student Alliance type is sort of small (paid 8 )
breath of fire 4 (paid 6) one of the few games i like
Yggdra Union (have not played yet got it free using the knights in nightmare code
Generation of Chaos: Pandora's Reflection (someone sold it to me here for 5 ) LOVE THIS GAME

thinking of buying
Shadow dancer
Aedis Eclipse: Generation of Chaos
tonight If i can dump of the UMDS what the downloads run (they cost 6 each at gamestop)

and if they ever go back on sale at 50% off getting
Disgaea 1 and 2 (dumped off disgaea 2 for the PSP last night for 30 so i could use that 30 and buy both of them for the vita at gamestop for 25 BUT waiting to see if they have a sale what i can grab them for 17.50

NOW once i get a PS3 the PSN + will be worth it big time i mean its worth more then 50 a year if you have a ps3... just waiting till E3 to see if there is a price drop

I Platinumed Sleeping Dogs, and had absolutely no trouble getting all the XP for both the Triads and the Cops by the end of my first playthrough with no purchased DLC.

The digital version of Sleeping Dogs comes with the Retro Triad pack, which adds 10% XP bonus to the Triad side. Put that set on before your first mission.

But honestly, you could get to level 10 for the Triad even without this free DLC. I only had a few missions where I had maxed out all 3 triangles at the end. Most of the others I was around 2 1/2 triangles, and still got to level 10 at the end of the game. You will not have any problem reaching level 10 on the cop side well before the game ended.

For the Triad XP, all you have to do is varied your attacks. I use the Leg Break attack, followed by the Heavy Knee attack (hold down the O button when they are stunned), then the Arm Break attack. And you should always counter with O + Triangle once that is unlock with the last Zodiac Jade returned to Si Fu. As soon as those Jade statues where available early in the game, I went and grab all of them besides the final 3, which are mission related. During the car chasing and defending missions, make sure to aim at the tires first (remember, there are 4 on the cars and 2 on the bikes) before blowing them up/and or killing the enemies. And don't rush to use the environmental kills. Use your legs breaks and arm breaks to wear them down, and then finish them off with the instant environmental kills last for max points. I hope that helps.

Thanks.
They did a wonderful job upscaling and widescreening FES. I'm a huge fan of the whole Persona series (to say nothing of SMT) and only just decided to try out FES the last time it went on sale. 80 hours in, not one regret. Jumped on it the last time it was $5, while it's got some differences from the PSP version which was on sale a couple months ago too, it's a solid update.
Are you implying that Atlus monkeyed with the PSN release and added widescreen support? I thought it was just emulation.
