Eh, I don't think it's that big a deal if it keeps the conversation going. This is a forum, not a blog. If you want information on deals only, without the conversation, then why read beyond the OP? I dunno, that's how I see it, but that's just me.

Besides, I like to think of the "Is X game good" questions as a good thing. It means new people are being introduced to great games every day.
 
Well, if you do eventually want to play Demon's Souls, it should probably be the next game in your backlog queue as Atlus announced yesterday that it is finally closing down the Demon's Souls multiuplayer server (for realsies this time) on May 31st, 2013. Which means no more multiplayer, no more hint messages, no more bloodstain replays, and greater difficulty shifting the world tendency back to white.

There will be player voted world tendency events May 1-15, and May 16-31. Tendency events are when the server (and thus games connected to their server) are set to either pure white (which makes the game easiest and unlocks unique events) or pure black (which makes the game as hard as possible and unlocks other unique events).

This article is from a year ago, the servers are going to stay on indefinitely (especially considering it was put up on PSN only a few months ago to begin with).

Yeah just realized that link is for server shutdown in May 2012. Guess that didnt happen and dont expect it too in the immediate future since it is now free on PS+.

Im still resisting the urge to get Guacamelee. But I slowly feel like Im giving in.... :whistle2:#

First, your article specifically says "May 31, 2012", so it's a really old article. Second, Atlus extended the servers indefinitely:

IRVINE, CA -- MAY 25, 2012 -- ATLUS, the video game brand of Index Digital Media, Inc., today announced an extension of the North American online servers for Demon's Souls™ for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the "Greatest Hits" hardcore multiplayer action RPG hailed as GameSpot's 2009 Game of the Year. Originally scheduled to be shut down at the end of the final hour of May 31, 2012, the servers will now continue to operate for the foreseeable future.

"We're incredibly excited to be able to announce that the Demon's Souls online experience will persist for a while longer," stated Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Marketing and Sales. "While it originally seemed as though it would be unfeasible for us to continue to sustain the servers, a number of developments have made it possible for us to continue to invest in and support our fans as they have continued to invest in and support us and Demon's Souls. ATLUS did not rule out the possibility of future extensions of the North American servers, provided user activity and interest remain constant.

I did not know that downloading the Walking Dead Season Pass required you to still download each one separately. Sigh. I was about to continue until I realized I have to wait and download 2-5 now.

I'm still very excited for it Blackgate, but you're right, the Lego games are huge disappointments so far on Vita. That would be my platform of choice for those games if the Vita got the full quality console versions.

Lego Batman 2 was actually developed on the DS and then ported to BOTH the Vita AND 3DS. Blackgate doesn't have a DS version, so it will definitely look better at least.

You have to do a hard reset. You hold down the power button until it beeps twice. When it boots up, you'll have to connect a controller by USB and it'll give you the System Menu. They recommend you do each of them from top to bottom, but I've never had luck with any of them other than the reformat option. Definitely do a search though as this is mostly from memory. Good luck! I'll have to contend with my system when I get home.

Okay, cool, I'm starting to think it'd be faster just to re-format it cause this restore shit is gonna take days and I don't want to leave my PS3 on that long. It says don't turn off the PS3 but I'm guessing if I'm gonna re-format it, it won't matter.
 
All this talk about corrupted ps3 drives, along with the fact that it just happened to my friend nearby too, is starting to worry me. Hopefully mine stays happy for a long time.

Now watch it get corrupted tomorrow. :/

Uh oh, maybe I shouldn't have turned off the system in the middle of the restore because now it says it can't access the system software. I think I fucked up my PS3.

Well at least there is no console version to compare it to for Blackgate. I haven't bought any LEGO games on the Vita for that reason, I don't see any reason why the console versions can't be ported to it. I suppose it would take more effort than they want to deal with.

That sucks man I hope it's not completely fucked up. I hate hearing stories of PS3's messing up.
 
"can't access the system software"... hrm. well, i'd need to do some research to have an actual guaranteed answer for you, but i'm pretty sure:

everything the ps3 needs to do system level stuff is firmware. that's why you can put an unformatted drive in and still get everything set up.

therefore, turning off your ps3 mid-restore, even if it completely killed your hd (or at least scrambled your file system) shouldn't matter. that really shouldn't fry your firmware.

if you have a spare laptop hd, stick it in and see if you can get to a boot screen. or, since you were planning on formatting anyway, format your current hd in a pc (not the right format, but just to get past whatever scramble might be causing this issue) and then put it back in your ps3 to see if you can get to the system level. my thought here is that perhaps the file system is just scrambled in a way that's sending the firmware for a loop... long shot, but worth a shot before sending the ps3 to sony.

and finally, by the point your HD needs to be formatted just to work, i highly recommend buying a new one at Newegg or wherever and trashing the old one. Dying hard drives are generally dying, and even if it lasts awhile it's not worth the risk.

therefore, turning off your ps3 mid-restore, even if it completely killed your hd (or at least scrambled your file system) shouldn't matter. that really shouldn't fry your firmware.

if you have a spare laptop hd, stick it in and see if you can get to a boot screen. or, since you were planning on formatting anyway, format your current hd in a pc (not the right format, but just to get past whatever scramble might be causing this issue) and then put it back in your ps3 to see if you can get to the system level.

and finally, by the point your HD needs to be formatted just to work, i highly recommend buying a new one at Newegg or wherever and trashing the old one. Dying hard drives are generally dying, and even if it lasts awhile it's not worth the risk.[/QUOTE]

I think I have the original drive somewhere around here. I'm tryin another option in the boot screen, but you're right, buying a new HD might be the better option. I was considering getting that God of War Ascension PS3 bundle since I have a ton of Best Buy credit but the new HD would be cheaper.

really? a bunch of people just before me were complaining about the clutter and for good reason. also love how i'm angry because I'm suggesting using common sense. I apologize for the swears kids, daddy's not mad at you, he's just disappointed.

I'm waiting on that as well. Just $2 short for Guacamelee right now and don't want to buy another PSN card with $20 coming my way so soon. Wonder why it takes them even this long to issue the credit.
 
I just said screw it and bought the GOW PS3 bundle cause it seemed cool and only cost about $140 out of pocket. I'll see if I can get my other PS3 to work with another hard drive and then sell it.

It's always the new kid that acts all mighty. You can come back in about a year and try applying for a wannabe mod.
 
An active thread like this is bound to have some things that are a little off topic and some that are just way out there. I haven't seen it get so bad to the point where I wasn't able to actually find the information I was looking for due to the clutter so I think it's really not that big of a deal.

It's good to hear Soul Sacrifice is coming out soon. After finishing up P4G, the only use my Vita's been getting is playing PS1 games.
