:ps4: Foul Play - $2.00 to $100.00 [customspoiler='Fine Print'] :ps4: Foul Play is a part of the PlayStation Heroes program, which means that you can pay your choice among a variety of price points for an item that is usually a theme for entries into a contest to win some prize with most of the money going to a charity. There are no details at the moment for what the prize for buying Foul Play offers, so I'll post that whenever it's announced.

Edit: From the PlayStation Heroes app on PS4, the Foul Play promotion is for a trip to PlayStation Experience in December. Once you purchase the game, you're supposed to go here to register for the actual contest, though you should wait until the page is updated for the PlayStation Experience promotion instead of whatever it's on at the moment.[/customspoiler]

If I had to choose between those then definitely Aqua Kitty. affa's post sums it up, Aqua Kitty for sure. Cross buy too so that's a plus.
That's how my gut was leaning. #KAZ looks fun but bare bones from videos. Now I'm considering swapping When Vikings Attack out for it. I'm never getting to bed.

Finally tally:

Legend of Mana

The 3rd Birthday

Shadow Warrior

OlliOlli

Rollers of the Realm

Costume Quest 2

echochrome PS3

echochrome PSP

Aqua Kitty

#Killallzombies

Saved a whole $4.05. :whee:

Where do I start with the Shin Megami Tensei / Persona series? I have 2, 3, 4, Digital Devil Saga, and Nocturne.

Thoughts on Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain? It's only $1.99 so with this discount code (thanks for posting it) and my other purchases at $14.95, it would be like getting the game for roughly 50 cents.
I'm a big fan of the legacy of Kain games. It's worth noting I've not played them in a long time. I wouldn't be surprised if they aged poorly. Lots of fetching and hack in slash in blood omen. Also awful awful loading times. But a great story and fantastic voice acting.

Also blood omen plays VERY different than the rest in the series. This is more like Diablo. Soul Reaver is more like old school tom raider (what's up with moving blocks) the later legacy of maimed I feel like tried to keep up with games like DMC and GOW but just wasn't as solid but the story was always the reason I played.

Personally? I'd say DDS then Nocturne (even though Nocturne is my favorite).

They are darker in theme than the Persona series. All share a similar combat system (it's called 'press turn', and really emphasizes proper use of elemental damage through a system that can essentially double your attacks if you are attacking with the right element, or even cause you to lose your turn if you attack with a shielded element).

DDS has your standard RPG party system, though all of your party members can turn into demons (and likely will only be demons 99% of the time). There's a large skill tree of powers. Dungeons are hand crafted, with some puzzles. It's got an interesting semi-religious/semi-technophile feel to it, as you try to figure out what's going on... you're members of one tribe fighting several others and trying to figure out a larger issue.

Nocturne has demon fusing, which is super cool (basically, you capture demons, level them up some to unlock their best skills, then fuse them with other demons to create even more bad ass demons). Sort of 'demon crafting', if you will. Very cool dungeons, interesting plot, dark themed, some really hard optional dungeons to explore, etc. I say take this on after DDS mostly because it's definitely the harder one of the bunch -- there's an early boss in particular that stops many players in their tracks because you really need to understand the press turn system well to stand a chance. Your main character, iirc, also learns skills and such but you have limited slots and once you 'forget' a skill it's gone forever, so some experience in smt helps.

Persona games aren't my thing. They've got demon fusing and basically the same combat system, but the dungeons leave a lot to be desired. There's a whole dating sim mechanic ('social links') where you go out with all your friends to power up their personas. Related to that, there's also a time mechanic where there's only so much you can do in a day, so you either need a guide or need to be okay with missing stuff your first time through. There's also a murder mystery going on.

If you like VNs and/or the social links/etc sound appealing, and you're going to go Persona first, play 3 then 4, then play DDS and Nocturne, then go back to the earlier Personas if you want.

Of them all, Nocturne is by far the best game in my opinion, though I'm not sure it should be your first SMT game.

OK I need some input. I have 10 items in my PSN cart right now for $37.68 (after discount) and I have $37.62 in my account currently... :wall:

Maybe there's something I can drop in here? Maybe I should just suck it up and add $5+ to cover the 6 cents?

Definitely getting:
Legend of Mana
Shadow Warrior
OlliOlli

Probables:
Rollers of the Realm
The 3rd Birthday
Costume Quest 2
echochrome PS3
echochrome PSP

Less sure about:
Futuridium
When Vikings Attack

Any thoughts? Has anyone played Futuridium? Seems like it could be neat but had never heard of it.
On echochrome I couldn't ever see myself picking up the PS3 version. It's just such a mobile game. (Imo all puzzle games are. Blame Tetris from back in the day.)

Great game to play while half ass watching a show or during a commute, if you take public transit. Not good enough for a full immersion experience.

#KILLALLZOMBIES

#WEPLAYEDCRIMSONLANDANDDECIDEDTOREMAKEITWITHHEXOGONS

So.  Crimsonland is an absolutely amazing dual stick shooter.  Survival is insane, plus there's tons of challenge levels and other variants, enough to keep you busy for a long time.  CL has been around a long time, and refined over time to be pretty much perfect at what it tries to be.

#KAZ is just survival mode (at least for now, the menu has other options that are 'coming soon'.

The game is clearly Crimsonland's little kid...  as you level up you unlock perks that are pretty much directly stolen from Crimsonland -- and we're not just talking obvious stuff like 'poison bullets', but some pretty obscure ideas for perks that clearly were cribbed from CL.

Now... even though it cribs tons from CL, it does have it's own thing going on:

1) The board is made up of hexagons.  These hexagons can do things, like raise (walls), or lower (gaps) and so the arena changes over time.  Some relatively big changes happen, and other stuff drops onto the playfield.

2) if you play online, people who watch can vote for stuff to happen.  i have no experience with this.

3) Pacing seems broken at times... I played a survival game that lasted 30 minutes earlier tonight and there were sections where zombies simply stopped spawning for minutes at a time.   I think this may have been because I cleared large waves really quickly and there was some sort of timer I had to wait out for the next leve, but it was plain odd.   CL, on the other hand, never lets up once you get going.  The only reason I died in #KAZ on that game is because I accidentally picked up a pistol during a big wave, replacing my far superior weapon at the worst time possible.

It's not a bad game.  It just feels unpolished and incomplete next to it's obvious big brother, crimsonland.   It does 'move faster' than CL, fwiw, but that's countered by the odd pacing.

If you're a dual stick shooter nut, pick it up while it's on sale, but if you're short on money or don't really care about the genre it's an easy, easy skip.  CL is superior in pretty much every way.

It's interesting --- where Aqua Kitty also feels like it copped from Resogun, Aqua Kitty feels like it has personality, and feels like it's own game.  KAZ is missing that soul.

I had a similar problem and also booted echochrome. I decide that I really like puzzlish games on the go, when I sit down and play them on my TV they lose some their magic.

Are they still releasing PS2 games digitally on PSN? I remember reading back in 2012 when the ESRB rated Haunting Ground (lending speculation that it was coming to PSN), but it never came out. I'd hate to shell out $60 to get the game on eBay when it shows up on PSN down the road for $10.
PS2 games hit now and then but not very often. I think possibly more games have been delisted than released in the last 3-6 months.

Where do I start with the Shin Megami Tensei / Persona series? I have 2, 3, 4, Digital Devil Saga, and Nocturne.
I would suggest the order you have listed except not to bother with 3 unless its the psp version and just play 4. The original version I wouldn't recommend nor would anyone else I imagine. persona 4 should help ease you in and then go from there. Nocturne is considerably harder than the persona series outside optional bosses like elizabeth. She's got her own tier.

I spoiler tagged the stuff below to save space in case you or others don't want to read it. There are no actual spoilers below.

alot of issues from dumb ai, social links reverse easily, death a optional super boss stalking you every floor in the dungeons and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting. Its also built for people who played the games in mind so abilities do not have descriptions you can read to know wtf they even do.

The psp version is more like 4 and streamlined so new players can enjoy it more. Basically it fixes some of the problems and adds new content. It will give you controllable party members or you can keep them on ai, ability descriptions, a second protagonist femc route, more characters, more social links so now you can have one with all the party members instead of just 2 and fuuka, skill cards that you can apply to your demons vs having to do fusion chains ect.

Social links can be completely ignored if you desire in 3 as they just provide an exp boost when creating a demon of the same type during fusion and its pretty worthless unless maxed out. You also unlock fusion recipe access to 1 persona each once maxed and one more if you get them all.

Does anyone else not have their Grim Fandango preorder unlocking until Wednesday morning? Hope they fix it, looks like I'll be getting snowed in for a couple days and would love to spend it with GF (and those tank controls)

No one should be questioning Shadow Warrior for a measly $6 (or $5.40 with 10% discount), its a fantastic old-school FPS with great humor, super colorful, beautiful levels, and great weapons and gameplay. I already had it on disc, but bought the digital so I don't have to swap the disc, and yes I'll keep the disc as well. Fantastic game, well worth full price, much less a measly $6!!
Great game but it made me have to lay down with eyes closed for hours got so dizzy my head still hurts. I guess it really is old school cause some fps games back then made me almost seizure out...

I want SW badly, though I just can't get myself to buy a digital game if there is a physical option. Call me old school, I'm just not going to support a standard I don't want, even if I have to pay more for the physical version.

Went back and bought The Unfinished Swan and Machinarium before the sale ends.

I did use the 10% off code earlier during the weekend.  My oldest son was bound and determined to get the season pass for Destiny, so since he wanted it he put the money in for it and then I grabbed Elevator Action Deluxe, Gex: Enter The Gecko,  & Pandemonium.

I've had that motion sickness before from certain FPS games, most recently from Duke Nukem Megaton Edition for the Vita (strangely, the same game on PS3 didn't have that effect on me). But Shadow Warrior didn't really give me that sick feeling, probably because the frame rate is pretty solid.

Forgot, I also grabbed OlliOlli.  Seemed like a good deal regardless of the 10% extra off I got.

No complaints at all from me on the sales coupled with an extra 10%.  I didn't end up even getting 10 games or go over the $150 limit (which I'm too cheap to reach anyway).

I did hit a local GS today though since they have a sale on certain used PS3 games at 3 for $10.  Not bad, I spent less there and grabbed more games than this sale (all complete versions).  Some were just buying retail versions of games I have digital like Uncharted 3 GOTY because it's such a huge hard drive eater.

Some people act like 10% on top of an already good sale is a kick in the face... while they're buying a pile of games because the prices are so good.

omg, I wish this $3 game was $10 so I could save an extra buck instead of only 30 cents!  Woe is me.

My purchases from the sale:

Olliolli

Rollers Of The Realm

Costume Quest 2 PS4

Contrast

Guacamelee PS4

#KILLALLZOMBIES

SMT: Nocturne

SMT: DDS

SMT: P3 FES

Persona 2: EP

Saved $4.53 additional with the 10% off code, as I had to do OlliOlli on its own order due to the 10 item cart limit, so lost out on $0.30.

I had a number of the items in the flash sale from other purchases or PS+ freebies.

Bought these games early this morning.

:ps4: Costume Quest 2

:ps4: Guacamelee

:ps4: Shadow Warrior

:ps4: Citizens of Earth

Legend of Mana

Suikoden II

= $35.16

Not bad at all. Thanks OP!!

Leading up to this morning, this sale slipped my mind. Now, there were a more than a few games from this sale that I had an eye or two on or an occasional desire to look into beyond the provided game description.

I whittled my list down by a decent amount and made off with:

-Front Mission 3

-Grandia (I'm not quite sure that this one was actually on sale, but I felt that the price was suitable.)

My 10% off splurge:
Bioshock Infinite Season Pass
Deus Ex: HR Director's Cut
Final Fantasy VI
Mafia II
Minerva's Den (DLC)
Olli Olli
Sleeping Dogs
The 3rd Birthday
Worms 2: Armageddon
XCOM: Enemy Within

last minute pick ups:
Aqua Kitty
Hustle Kings
Echochrome (PSP/Vita)

All for under $80, not too shabby. And I'm currently playing Fat Princess - Piece of Cake because nothing is more satisfying then ignoring a mountain of highly regarded games in order to play some free spin-off puzzle game.

I prefer Persona over the regular SMT games, so I would say 4 slightly over 3. Make sure you give yourself at least 2 hours when you start it.

I just picked up FF VI and Tomb Raider Anniversary for my vita. Not much else I can invest in digitally for ps3, when my ps4 is right around the corner.

Don't forget If you get far enough in Fat Princess - Piece of Cake you get a voucher for Fat Princess.

Yeah, that was my motivation for playing it at first, but it's been pretty addicting. I always get wrapped up into games like this when I should be reducing my backlog.
It is pretty fun for a F2P matching game. The grinding of diamonds to level up is a slow process but it's not bad. Very winnable by not paying anything for sure though there is a limited energy system and leveling up of your people is a bit slow. I just ignore the Pay2Win powerups....eh those are lame.

I bit on Costume Quest 2, Shadow Warrior, and Game Of Thrones Season Pass with the 10%/flash sale. Couldn't find anything else I really wanted or didn't have.

There's some free content for Hustle Kings but the descriptions are a bit confusing. The Vita versions say they are additional tables but the PS3 versions are coded as Maps with multiplayer and social functions. If you buy the PS3 listing you get the Vita version and vice versa. Did anyone get these and can clarify?
it's the same map/table just different wording...

for sure, but I'm stuck in that level next to the chickens challenge and since I need to boost up my characters to past it w/out help or use coins I have basically almost stopped playing the game.

4 is the most accessible SMT game, as well. I don't think it's nearly as good as 3, though.

But man, Nocturne is where it's at.

Just to add to nocturne... I have the guide for that game from when it came out and I still had a lot of trouble at first with the game, but it's satisfying the further in depth you get.

OT but all this talk of nocturne got me wondering what is the hardest rpg you guys ever played. I would have to pick nocturne cause that is the only game off the top of my head that I enjoyed but wasn't able to finish.

I haven't played front mission but I do know its an srpg thus why I purchased it.

grandia 1 is ok. starts out good story wise but it tapers off quickly to just enter generic area solve peoples problems leave to next rinse repeat. I would of liked it better if the story didn't go all grim dark towards the end.

Bought everything on the list I posted a few days ago but not Suidoken II. Figure by the time I get around to even playing the first one it will be on sale...if not, just a buck.

Wizardy, the beginning of Bard's Tale (first few levels), Nethack.

Nocturne has that first boss which is difficult, and a few rough patches, but I play SMT games on hardest difficultly and there's rarely anything too difficult once you have a grip on the combat systme.

Zangband/Angband. Never beaten it. Only gotten far once, and got killed by the hardest sub-boss. Was able to do damage, but needed to heal, and magic was locked down on the floor. So I ran, jammed a door with tons of spikes hoping to rest for some turns, and it teleports behind me. R.I.P.
