Pretty sure what you just described is an adventure game. Just bc it's short doesn't mean it's not one.

Eh...I'd call it a walking simulator or a first-person visual novel. There's no danger, there's no enemies to deal with, there's no failstate condition where you can have the game end on you, etc.. Calling it an adventure seems counter to the definition of the word. It's certainly nothing at all like the Telltale-style adventure games we've been getting.

 
Comes out the 12th, thank christ. We've had 3 straight months of adventure games on Plus, don't need another one. 

I still call it an adventure game, but yeah it's different than something like Walking Dead or King's Quest. Gone Home is more of a walking simulator than anything else, but it still falls into the genre of adventure game for me.

Pretty sure that's not right pitfall. Even if it is, it's glossing over the entire situation that resulted in it, which is what the bulk of the game is about.

It's not. If you reaaaly want to know:

Main character's lesbian sister ran off with her girlfriend. The parents are off on a couple's counseling trip--there are hints the mom had an affair with a coworker and that the dad was molested by an uncle or something as a child.

Female. I'm leery of the effects from the emphasis of third person shooter elements over RPG elements in 2 vs 1.

I hate every game before playing it though, so yeah.

You people ever quit going to a website cause the changed their layout and think its horrible now?

Case in point, engadget. New site is awful to me, gonna have to find another tech news site I think.

Any suggestions besides the verge?

Different strokes, different folks I guess. I love the dedicated fan culture in soccer and am a fairly active member of Indy's own group. The constant singing, cheering, and hype makes for an awesome experience. I'm sure there are some people in it only for the excuse to drink, but that's just like any sport. But a lot of people in the fan groups put in a lot of time and effort to make sure games are fun for everyone.

Obviously I can't speak for the Timbers Army themselves, but I know in Indy we spend a ton of time organizing the tailgates, different events around the city, charity events, and working on tifo/chants. Judging by the other groups that I've met and interacted with, it's pretty similar elsewhere. I didn't spend any time with TA yesterday because I spent most of my time hanging out in the middle of the Crew tailgate, but everyone was cool and we traded away a couple indy scarves for columbus (and a few people got some portland ones) scarves. Also met a dude who came in full red/blue Chicago Fire gear which was awesome to see among the sea of Colombus yellow/black.

TL:DR nah, a lot people really care about their city/team and spend a ton of time supporting it and the sport. great way to meet a bunch of cool new people.

I just use twitter as a frontend for sites I'm interested in and never bother visiting the actual site unless it's via twitter link direct to an article. I think the only websites I visit regularly are my library and psnot.

One of the youtube videos I watched because I thought I failed at something important for all survive had her in her underwear. One of the first comments was asking how you could get that to happen.

These are people posting on the internet where there is so much real porn easily available. I just do not understand it at all.

I just use feedly, a nice RSS reader, over going to any site directly. It keeps all my sites in one easy place so I'm not refreshing 27 times a day. Plus I don't have to click through to every article, just the ones I'm interested in. Great on mobile as well.

Yeah a lot of the so called replacements were pretty rough right after that, I was so mad at Google at the time but I feel like feedly was the first to streamline itself close to google's, and now it seems better to me. They have nice keyboard shortcuts and it's really nice to view on a phone or tablet, probably even better than the website.

 
UC4 comes out on 3/18, a friday. 

Just so happens thats the weekend of The Tournament. 

Guess ill pick it up that following monday, no way i'll play it any that weekend. I usually take off work the first 2 days and watch basketball all day long both days. Guess I could play it some before the games start, usually first tip off is like 10 or 11 am.

Uh...the article you linked said it was Depression Quest at fault, not Gone Home. Maybe I'm missing something but I can't tell from the article what Gone Home had to do with Gamergate at all. The wiki entry for Gamergate also barely mentions Gone Home; it only brings it up as another indie game that did well with critics.

You know how I said something recently about our vendor being a bunch of fucking idiots?  

Example A:

getString(string_to_get)

{

do stuff to get value and put it in string_to_get

memset string_to_get to 0

}

Example B:

They also wrote the code that calls this.  I was debugging in that function and told them the string was always empty.  They tell me about this function and how "It could be getting lost in there if not formatted properly.  We have tested that function and it works if the input is correct."

Pretty sure no matter how it is formatted it would get lost you useless assholes.

I know the Timbers Army does alot of social/charity work here as well.

Which is sort of more my point, it's more of a hang-out club rather than people who actually love the sport.

What statistics would soccer fans even talk about? There's no yardage no P/I ratios, etc etc.

So dudes were confused why the string they were getting always returned 0 instead of what it should actually be getting?

And if so, these people are actually employed with real paying jobs by their willing employers that aren't just trying to meet state requirements?

Lots of overlap. Dudes around here run podcasts talking about strategy, possible expansions, coach acquisitions, table standings. Away goals, home goals, blah blah blah blah. As someone who got stuck in a 3 hour car drive of random soccer statistics and ramblings, trust, they have plenty of shit to talk about.
