Important News For Amazon.com Video Games Customers

The Nintendo Wii will be available for purchase on Amazon.com on 11/19, Sunday morning (PST). We will be limiting purchases to one per household and we anticipate that we will sell through our inventory very quickly as we've received 100 times more Wii email sign-ups than consoles we'll have available for sale (i.e., for every Nintendo Wii we'll have for sale, over 100 people have signed up to be notified).

We expect to receive periodic shipments of the Wii from Nintendo throughout the holidays and we will post availability updates on the product detail page as well as in the customer discussions on the Nintendo Wii product page:

http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Wii/dp/B0009VXBAQ.

Thank you for your continued support of Amazon.com.

One Day Shipping is $13.98. We need a Wii icon.

Edit 2:
The lastest about your Wii pre-orders from 9/15 are as follows:

Hello again,

Time to answer another batch of questions.

Several of you asked for a ballpark estimate as to when pre-orders would be up again, but unfortunately I don't have any information on that right now. As I've mentioned previously, we are still working with Nintendo on the details of our launch allotment, and I can't speculate as to when everything will be in place. Once again, your best bet is to sign up for email notification on the Wii detail page if you don't want to re-check our site every day.

Speaking of the email notification, there was a request for clarification on the timing of that email. We plan to send out an email to everyone on that list prior to the next pre-order window with all the relevant details on that window. This will hopefully give just about everyone an equal and fair chance at knowing when to come online and pre-order.

Regarding the launch day allotment, anyone who pre-orders a Wii prior to the November 19 launch can expect to get theirs as part of that first shipment. Past November 19, we will be opening up sales for further batches as we get them, which we hope will help minimize confusion. We know that customers who were able to get in on the last pre-order currently have a ship date of October listed on their order, which is obviously incorrect, but this will be updated when we have an actual delivery estimate, and those customers will receive an email regarding that change.

I still don't have any information on bundles or controller availability, which one of you asked for. However, I can tell you that in previous console launches, controller availability was not typically an issue.

Thanks again for your continued understanding, patience, and feedback.

Edit: Amazon will be taking pre-orders again once they know their actual alottment from Nintendo. All exisiting pre-orders from 9/15 will stand. It also looks like you'll get your console right at launch (no backorders, in otherwords, but no guarentee on launch day). Read all about it in in this discussion thread from the Amazon.com Video Game editor.

Cheapy, you owe me for the comission on this one (just kidding). ;)
Indeed... looking at all these comments about shipping is pretty amusing. Most people who preordered have probably been waiting for quite a while anyway, so what's a few more days? Patience is a virtue. ;)

I was lucky enough to get a preorder back in september, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for it to arrive. I bought it for the convenience of not wasting any of my time waiting in line and also because it's not packaged into a ridiculously large, expensive bundle. I would have thought most people would be satisfied.

Personally, my guess is that most or all of them will ship Monday/Tuesday, but as long as it arrives before xmas, I'll be a happy camper... I have plenty of other gaming options until then.
Well put.

I got in on a preorder at TRU and plan on picking mine up on Monday (I may go to the Packer game on Sunday). But why stand in a line, if you don't have to.
They assured you that your getting your Wii "timely." I don't see where the trust is breaking down.
I don't consider 2 months to be "timely" or "shortly"
I don't consider 2 months to be "timely" or "shortly"
You don't seem to consider reading either.

This is the response I got from Amazon:
I have checked our records and see that, due to a delay on our end,
the estimated shipping and delivery dates for your order were
revised after you placed your order. It is our policy to notify
customers whenever such delays occur, and I sincerely apologize that
you were not notified in this case.

The revised delivery estimate for your order is January 16, 2007.

So, as of right now, the only SOLID date I have heard from Amazon is Jan 16.

We've established that customer service doesn't know what they're talking about, but it doesn't appear that the Video Games Editor does, either.
Last week, he reassured us that preorders would be taken this week
This week, he's informed us that no preorders will be taken
Yet he assures us that all preorders will be fulfilled from the first shipment. Why don't I trust him?

That certainly puts a different spin on things. I wouldn't get too worked up about it at the moment...not until next Wednesday at least.

I originally had Super Saver shipping and wanted my Wii to come in faster, so I changed the shipping to 2 day. Because of that, my estimated delivery changed from the Oct 4th thing to January 17th. I seriously hope that changing delivery didn't affect my place in line.

i hope i get this damn thing before thanksgiving, but if not no big deal, ill just keep it for myself instead of selling it.

Hmm. I'd be pretty annoyed if it turned out that we weren't going to get it for weeks, but Amazon has only taken a limited number of preorders and aren't taking any more, and I find it incredibly hard to believe that they don't have enough to fulfill what people have already ordered. This isn't the PS3 here, people.

OK wtf.....my shit has now been updated to ship in Jan. I literally ordered a few minutes after they put it up on Sept. 15th.....

Either they fix this shit now, or I'm rolling to Target on Sunday. I'm gonna call, will let you all know how it pans out.

OK so here's the deal (apparently). The dates coming up as 'Jan' are just a fuck up in the system - apparently they have been having problems with pre-order item ship dates in the system. So I confirmed that I have one actually in stock ready to ship for my account, on Sunday (direct quote from the CSR). If you have a funny ship date, I'd make sure to confirm this as well.

Shot a quick email over to Amazon regarding the status of the Wii. Amazingly the CSR upgraded my 2-day shipping to free next-day shipping and now my shipping estimate is November 16th and my delivery estimate is November 17th. Furthermore the CSR wrote in the email to contact them if the Wii doesn't ship by the 17th.

I am wondering if that means that I will receive my Wii on the 18th on Saturday. Either way, I'm not going to press my luck anymore even if it doesn't ship on the 17th. The fact that they are honoring my order (I was one of the few to get an order in during the "glitch") and the fact that they gave me free next-day shipping is going above and beyond great customer service.

I got pretty much the same answer after sending a nastigram (he said it should ship by the 21st)...

At this point, I'm not sure who to believe.

If they don't ship by Friday, I'll probably try to snag one on Sunday... Just in case.

My Zelda game shipped today for delivery Friday. Also, they told me my WII would definitely ship tomorrow for delivery Monday. I think it will probably come Friday, though since I got overnight delivery!

After refreshing it just now, mine says it's shipping on the 16th and arriving on the 17th (overnight shipping) but I'll believe it when I see it. It would be cool to get it early, but really all I want is to have it on or just after launch.

i just called amazon and they said mine should ship the 27th with it being here no later then the 5th. Why is it taking so long when i placed my order within 5 mins of it being open?

That's... pretty shitty.

I don't think anyone at Amazon has the slightest clue what is going on.

If you called back you'd probably get a totally different answer.

Best we can all do is cross our fingers this all gets worked out.

Just checked my Amazon order, my WII is being prepared to ship!!!

Hopefully, I will get it before 19 :)

Are you from the 9/15 or the 10/27 preorder? Also, what type of shipping did you select?

I am from 9/15 (w/ 2 day shipping) and my status has not yet changed to shipping soon.

I'm sitting here staring at my copy of Red Steel with nothing to play it on!
i preordered on the 15th.

i just sent an email since my status hasn't changed.

hopefully they'll get back to me soon.
Update your shipping, that's all they're gonna do.

I preordered first day at 8 am, I tried emailing them like others have to get my shipping upgraded to overnight (but I didn't ask for it, just asked when my Wii was shipping) they replied and said there was an incorrect date in the system which they've corrected now (however, the date used to say 11/7-11/14 but still does) tried to offer me $5 off my next order. I just replied again and said no I want overnight shipping. I'll have to see what happens. But I don't like that people that preordered a month after me are getting upgraded to overnight and I can't when I ordered first day.

What's the amazon email for customer service? I just checked my order (didn't update shipping or anything), and it changed from Nov. 17 to Dec. 1. I wanted to ask them what's up with my order too.

Looks like Amazon is doing exactly what Nintendo did with the component cables. Slow shipping methods will ship out first with the 2-day and next-day orders after those.

I've got Zelda in my cart right now. If I select 2-day shipping it'll ship today. If I select next-day shipping it ships tomorrow.

i just called and they said they were getting them in tommrow, so it looks like ti could ship tommrow, does anyone know what amazon uses for overnight shipping, if its fed-ex i could get my system on saturday if its ups then i will have to wait until monday.

Amazon always uses UPS for 2-day, and in the rare cases that I did next day, it was always UPS next day. They sent me Guitar Hero 2 via DHL next day though, so YMMV. I would definitely not expect it to be Fedex though.

Either way, I don't believe that Amazon offers Saturday delivery in any form. Unless it ships today, I think Monday is the earliest anyone could hope for.

Thanks for the update

I e-mailed Amazon and the guy told me that they had them on hand, but couldn't ship until the release date. Here's part of what they wrote:

I'm sorry for any misunderstanding regarding this item. Although we
do have your copy of "Nintendo Wii" on hand, we can't ship it to you
until its official release date, November 19, 2006 . Many
manufacturers, publishers, and record labels restrict retailers from
selling or shipping their products until the official release date.

In some cases, these items may enter the shipping process just prior
to the release date. When possible, we do this to ensure that you get
the item as soon as possible after the release date.

Then he says that he credited my account with a $5 promo GC, but I checked my GC balance and it's still $0.:whistle2:|
I ordered it on 9/15 with 2 days shipping
I did the same (with no update on my account) w/ a Prime account.

I'm not as concerned as most here as I have it shipping to my parent's home for when I go home for Thanksgiving (as I'm leaving Tuesday and don't trust delivery people not to leave it out in my apartment building for a week). So I can't play it until Tuesday night at the earliest. Plus I have both games on pre-order from Bestbuy.com... so god knows when they'll show up.

Well, I preordered the Wii from Amazon back in September. I just hope my box doesnt come all crushed up like an order I just received today from Amazon. (speaker 2.1 system for my computer). I like to keep my system boxes and prefer them to be like new. I just hope my Wii box comes nowhere close to being messed up like my shipment I had today.

I got in on the "2nd pre-order" and mine still says "Items not yet shipped." Looks like they are being extra careful and making sure it is first come, first serve.

Amazon is really good about returns if your anal about your boxes. I ordered Final Fantasy VIII and the case was cracked in the front. I was able to return it for an exchange with no hassles.

In my email it said the $5 credit will automatic be adjusted when you purchased your next item.

In an effort to compensate you for this unforeseen delay, I would
like to offer you a $5.00 promotional certificate for use toward
your next purchase from Amazon.com. This credit should be
automatically applied to your next qualifying order.

Ditto. I have 2-day shipping, FWIW.

If you're right about them packing and shipping according to order number, then good on Amazon.

My Wii pre-order just shipped from Amazon! I chose free Super Saver Shipping. I always use free shipping and I always get my stuff quick. Placed an order on Monday for some stuff with free shipping and got it today, so ignore their estimated shipping times (they said that package would take 2 weeks to get to me but it took 3 days).
