Picked this game up Yesterday and I'm kind of addicted to the time attack even though I don't totally get it. Amazing price for a great collection. Here's hoping for more.
This. It's pretty easy to wire up a country that's a fraction of the size of ours.

The biggest challenge with fiber optics is convincing landlords and leasing properties as they dig up roads and going into apartment complexes to put the fiber optics in - that's the really expensive part. The difference between US and Japan is that the Japanese government believed that setting up a fiber optics infrastructure early on would have long term benefit for the country as a whole, and provided MASSIVE incentives for private companies to invest in fiber optics. US gov't hasn't shelled out a penny.

I decided to pick this up today. I was interested in the game when I knew it was a former-Japan-only game game and $30, but with it going down to only $20, I figured it was worth buying new and hoping the guys that localized it will do so with more games in the future :)

Oh, and they had a gutted copy on the GameStop shelves, but I made sure I got a sealed copy (I would guess it was the only one), especially sure there was already a gash in the side of the box. My copy has a little mark, in the same vicinity of the gash in the display box, but not nearly as bad.

they dont have this game at the local gamestop.

ordered it online with the new Hikaru Utada album for an extra $8 to get dat free shipping!

they release on the same day too and I was gonna buy that cd anyways. good deals!!

Buy this game!
Don't know what is up with Amazon, so I'm finding a local copy.

Jekki, Utada? Are you a 13 year old girl? ;)

I'd pick this up if I were you guys, don't wait for a used one. First off, look how much of a hard time people are having finding it now! Imagine it in a few months.

Also, checked the used price at GS and it's $24.99!!!!! So it looks like this might just go up in value from this point on.

At least for me, it shows that there are no copies at Gamestops within 100 miles of me- clearly that's not the case since I picked up my preorder over the weekend. If you don't want to wait for Amazon, call around; there's a chance they're still at a nearby Gamestop!

Well, I sent a friendly email to amazon requesting status and they acknowledged that there is a delay and indicated that their shipments are slated for May 12th for whatever reason. They apologized for the delay and gave me complimentary one-day shipping. Thanks very much, amazon! I'm just glad they are able to fulfill my order. For anyone with pending pre-orders, I'd recommend a little patience as you should receive yours soon.

Yes, this.

GameStop.com did the same thing to me. I called two stores and both had copies. Also - neither store thought they did at first glance and neither store had them on the shelves.

Strange.

I picked up a copy at GS today myself. Figured with all of the word of mouth with this game and how thrilled everyone is with it, might as well give it a shot for $20.

Gonna pop it in right now.

Damn $1,000? UBER RARE :p

If I buy this game does that mean theres a great chance for death smiles us release :p ?

Seriously, I'm pondering buying this just to get more of the developers to bring shoot em ups here, but I'm so over my budget it ain't funny.

I would take any of the SHUMPS that the are on retail disk over in JP. Death Smiles, Raiden IV, etc.

I jumped on this one and haven't been able to put it down. 3 days already logged 9 hours of game time with it, its amazing. I wasn't a huge fan of SHUMPS before and the $19.99 price tag made me jump on now I am sold.....

@Regian: Well u bit and now im curious on your thoughts on the game.

I got this wacky sneaky suspicion that this could be the RGS for the 360. I lol everytime I see RGS for sale on ebay as I still have my original receipt.. Makes me wonder if this game will fall by the wayside then everyone will want it thus creating demand for it and driving up the price, only time will tell.

Personally If you don't bight at $20 then you don't need to be in this thread. Great game for the price and how many shmups does the US-360 have. Even if this was XBL its a better price than Ikaruga. Though I am curious how many copies were produced overall. About 6100 GS/EBG around the US and 2-4 copies per store and what did Amazon get if anything. I suspect a very low print run of no more than 50k copies. Anyone in the industry care to shed any light?

@Monsta Mack : Death smiles in the US? I think thats unlikely but who knows. One would hope that Raiden Fighters Aces paves the ways for more shmups. Who knows, anything can happen, Even the Arizona Cardinals COULD win a superbowl hahaha. Being a Heavy shmuper so far I could 8 shmups in the J-collection vs the 1st US released disc(Sorry I dont count XBL as I cant exactly inventory it in my game collection).
@joshnorm: Glad you love it. It can be very addicting believe me I know :D

To others.. pick up the dam game for the umteenth time!!! :D

Well, it definitely can't hurt, can it? I'm throwing my $20 bucks in. I was happy to pre-order it for $30, so it's a steal and no-brainer for $20.

I'm really hoping Deathsmiles gets a release here. Maybe even put both games on one disc (when the second game comes out, of course). Edge Magazine just gave Deathsmiles a great review:

http://www.edge-online.com/features/review-deathsmiles

I may have to buy a Japanese 360 if they don't start bringing more shooters to the states.

Which reminds me of a question that I'm hoping someone has an answer to: Will I be able to log in with my same profile on both a Japanese and US 360? Say if I put my profile on a mem card and swap it out to whichever one I want to play?

To answer your question. if you do the roaming profile thing on a memory card yes. Personally id highly suggest creating a japanese profile and just segregating everything between a japanese and US 360. Also contrary to what people fear. If it breaks M$ will repair it for you you just have to really make sure those dingbats know its a foreign unit.

I have a stack of 9 shmups on my J360 (Death Smiles being my latest release). Again hate to say it but This is why I loathed the american companies because they are slow to release a game let alone release it at all. It can happen that we get some stuff over there (Shikigami No Shiro 2 & 3, Milestone Shooting Collection). It does happen but man I wouldnt hold my breath at all.
@Regian: Well u bit and now im curious on your thoughts on the game.
I dig it. Only played it for a bit last night, gonna pop it in for a little while longer after this post. It's certainly a niche title, but for $20 it's hard to pass up. And who knows how many copies they made for the US? This might be a hard-to-find title in the future.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Good to hear that they'll repair should something happen it even though it's a JP unit. Honestly, I'm not too worried about it now as opposed to a year or two ago -- I'd definitely make sure to get one of the newer units, though.

Also, thanks for reminding me about that Wii collection. Although I already have Radirgy and Chaos Field on the Dreamcast (and Gamecube!), I'll still have to pick it up to get the other one. And to show some support for publishers bringing them to the US, of course.

Eh, I kind of doubt it. The Raiden Fighters games were already playable on mame, right? Also RGS came out much closer to when shmups were viable mainstream console releases. Were this a new Treasure or Squenix shooter with the same limited release it might be a different story. Raiden just doesn't carry the same mojo.

It is plenty awesome however and will probably be rare. I just doubt it will command much of a resale value.

heavy lqiuid:
yeah I got these copies on my dreamcast and I figure for the sake of other people I'd get a localized copy and help support the local guys. My friends give me crap for buying a duplicate version of a game I already own in Japanese. Its alot more than just that, supporting the local guys, helping to spurt growth in that area of video gaming in America. Besides it helps to have some extra moolah too. Being a newer 360 owner Since November and owning a Japanese unit 1st made me understand the whole 360 structure. I got my American one in February(needed to get my hockey fix). When i created my 1st XBL account it tagged it as american cuz of my country localization in my US hotmail account. So I created a 2nd acct with an actual legit address in japan and stuck that one on my J360.

So does anyone else notice that in most of this thread that its Raiden Fighter Aces and not Raiden FighterS Aces ? I noticed its very easy to not pluralize Raiden Fighter Aces but I checked both my japanese and american box cover and its "Raiden Fighters Aces" An easy mistake and ugh I hate english :p .

nexen:
yeah who knows. Lets regroup in 3-5 years and see what happens :bouncy:

Holy crap! I just looked at your gamertag and noticed all of your achievements for Raiden Fighters Aces already. Nice! You're definitely better than me.. I think I'm going to have trouble getting the One Coin achievements. Hopefully amazon ships my copy today.

One coin is cheasy-easy. It has no difficulty level requirement. In practice mode they dont even fire at you at all.
I really wish it wasn't like that because I was unable to resist racking up the points :p

Ah, interesting. I may be unable to resist it, too. ;)

Still, I'm guessing that ncd1701p's better than me... I also noticed that he has a full 1000 points in DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou Black Lable EXTRA!

I'm going to have to start saving for a J360 unit. Damn, I wish the 360 was region free.

Those full 1k achievement points are a PITA. The next one im closest to is Otomedius G but it just feels like its so far away.. After 8 hours playing the game you just get :whee: . Unfortunately I got super busy w/ work that I just play games in spurts. Thats why I like shooters more than anything. I can invest some time and walk away unlike an RPG where you have to dedicate your time continously. Im dedicated but of course there are those who get the 1k achievements and are extremely dedicated.

In RFA For me i can almost achieve the 50million mark but the 100million I cant even fathom how to get there. I do figure things out along the way but im like HOW?!?!?!?
My Amazon order status just changed to shipping soon!
thats great news. I'll have my gf check the status for mine

I just ended up buying this completely on a whim and after hearing good feedback here and from other forums. Helpful tip: If anyone is looking for filler to get free super saver shipping, Shaun of the Dead on DVD is only $7! :D

Well, I had this on pre-order at Amazon, but I couldn't wait so I picked up a copy at Gamestop this weekend. It's an AWESOME game, and $20 is such a pittance.
Also contrary to what people fear. If it breaks M$ will repair it for you you just have to really make sure those dingbats know its a foreign unit.
Woah, woah, woah! That's very interesting news. I'd been considering a Japanese 360 for a little while for stuff like Raiden IV, Otomedius G and DoDonPachi DaiOuJou. What eventually deterred me though was the RRoD problems that the 360's were infamous for. I didn't want to be stuck with a broken 360, and no warranty. What exactly is the repair policy/method? How do they determine when the 3 year warranty starts? Do you just call them up, and send it in?

Got a notice from Amazon today saying my pre-order is ready to ship SOON and will be delivered between May 27th and June 2nd.

What gives? I know I used the slow Super Saver shipping, but do all their pre-orders usually take this long to ship out? The game was released last week!

I pre-ordered GTAIV L&D DLC and I got it pretty quick.

It wasn't released to amazon last week, only Gamestop. I contacted amazon and they said their shipment was slated for today.

Ahh, gotcha. I thought it was released on the same day everywhere. Guess I'll sit tight and wait for my copy then.

For once, I was more than happy to take the gutted copy. Usually I pass or throw a hissy fit. I made that prick take all the price tags off of it though.

No regrets.

I got an "opened" one. I though... erm. I was more pissed about having to take those FAIL G$ tags off. Luckily they weren't as stupid at this G$ since they didn't actually stick the one on the cover art, it was just slipped in. The one on the outside on the case was relatively easy to take off. There wasn't any marks on the disk either so I didn't care.

Yeah, but I made him take them off just on principle alone. What DID suck though, was he put this clear circle sticker where the Microsoft seal strip was on the side of the case where you open it at. I guess to make sure that you opened an already opened game should you try to return it.

That shyt was a bitch to remove...had to use Goo-B-Gone to get all the residue it left off. Other than that though, I'm good.

Yeah... I was like wtf, wait a min. It's an open game and then you're gonna reseal it... ? What... I'm gonna steal it after I bought it? geez.

I have a technique I use for getting a seal like that off without any marks. Peal as much of it off as possible and then whatever is left dab with the peal because the adhesive usually sticks to the peal adhesive. The stronger the adhesive the better/faster it comes off.

On a side note... I've been running into some really sorry ass cashiers lately because they don't even give me a damn bag. I mean, the ones so far I haven't really cared but jeez...

I always wanted to know the definition of "bullet hell".

Found it. And I never thought it would be this enjoyable.

Buy this game. Now.

Ugh, HARD! Don't have the greatest eye hand coordination for this... Really like though.

My friend is gonna kick arse at this game though. Right up his alley.

Woke up today and what did I find on my blackberry but a nice charge on my credit card from amazon.com $19.99. I guess amazon is finally shipping... went to their website and "In Stock."
This will make a very good present for my friend who really likes this game.
So the amazon holdout is over!
