To DigiMask:
I know that it hasn't been perfected yet, but my guy is pretty close looking to me, except that I look bald, it doesnt detect my hair. I also have a small beard but it doesnt show up, it just shows up as dark stubble. Any chance that showing hair and facial hair in the future?[/quote]
Hi.
Can't guarantee I can check in here frequently, but I'll do my best to answer questions.
Hair and beard are two different issues:
1) Hair. We are working on this. It is the single element that has caused us to pull our own hair out!!! Whilst our face detection alogrithms are pretty good (and improving daily), it is extremely difficult to detect someone's hair and replicate it with any decent fidelity. Quite simply, we know a human head has two eyes, a nose and a mouth and so we can 'lock on' to those features and figure the rest out from there.
With hair, there are no set starting parameters. Everyone has a different style, length, texture and colour! It's a nightmare, but believe me we do hope to have a solution soon. We have some extremely large brains working on it right now. Your patience is appreciated!
2) Beard. I have just got this straight from the horse's mouth (one of those 'Large brains' I just referred to) - Lighting is key. Obviously any facial hair will just be replicated as part of the texture, but if there is too much shadow when the photo is taken, the process might assume that the hair/stubble is shadow also and shade the face accordingly.
Our Computer Vision expert suggests: Follow the guidelines as best as you can (
www.digimask.com - CONSUMER). If you see it clearly on the photo (good contrast) then you should be able to get a good image. Bear in mind though that the beard will only go as far as the bottom of your chin, so if you're Santa Claus you're screwed!
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Gary
