Rainbow Six: Vegas - Gen. Discussion & Info

I finally got around to playing some matches online. I love the capture/defend mode (or whatever it's called). After a few rounds to get the layout of the casino down it was a lot of fun. I was able to capture the briefcase and win the round twice and was on my way to the helicopter for the third time when the game froze on me.

I also noticed that any lag in this game can completely ruin it, more so than any other 360 game I've encountered. Once I emptied a clip out of my assault rifle at point blank range into a guy and he didn't die. Instead he magically warped off to my side and killed me instead with two shots. I was pissed. Normally I wouldn't care too much but when it's a team elimination/survival game it sucks to have such cheap deaths occur.

The Digimask Team
Is it better to use artificial sunlight or actual sunlight when mapping your face to the game?

the faces do take forever to finally start showing up for other people ro see. I have gotten a couple of nice face scans for the most part but I always get some fucked up patch or circle around the back of the head.

This is a huge forum so sorry if this has been asked...

I'm looking to get the game but, How many players can play on one system on online co-op?

My g/f and I want to play with my cousin over the net, can we play 2 on my system split screen, or is it just one per console?
Is it better to use artificial sunlight or actual sunlight when mapping your face to the game?
Natural light is always best, but that may be impractical if you are using the 360 camera.
If you can get an 'even' lighting on your face (minimal shadows) then that helps tremendously.

Cheers,

Gary

I'm kinda pissed off at the moment. The last three games I've played online have locked up on me completely. Single player is fine and I'm not having problems with any other game, so I'm thinking it's something on Ubi Soft/Microsoft's end. I don't know what the problem is but I'm hoping it's something that can be fixed with a patch.

It could also be your connection to the server as well so always check the status of your connection to the server. You can likely tell if the game is going to freeze if you hear continuous gunfire for more than 15 seconds without the person reloading (in other words this person has lagged out and can fuck up other people's connection in the process). I haven't frozen since noticing this issue, so I try to avoid games with people that have red connections. Either ask the host to boot the laggers, or join games only with green and yellow connection speeds. Another alternative is to just host your own games. The last time the game froze on me was probably the day after it released; other than that it has been smooth sailing. I hope this helps.

I don't join games with a lot of people with red dots. The last round I was in the vast majority had green dots (including myself and the host) with only a couple of yellow dots and no reds. I can understand freezing somewhat if everyone has a slow connection, but after that round froze on me I think it's more of a problem on the software/server side than any individual connection. I've played matches in RSV earlier and other games with a ton more lag than what I experienced that round and haven't had an issue with freezing.

What I do get to play is a blast, just I haven't been able to play more than five minutes at a time for a while now and that sucks.

Got this Monday but haven't had time to open it yet, work's a bitch and I'm still trying to finish GoW singleplayer. For some reason I can't play stuff like that for more than a 30/45 minutes before I stop.

Nice to see someone from Digimask offering help here.
im pretty sure you can play 2 player online co op split screen over one console
Two player co-op over one console. 2 player Live, not so much. If there is a way, I must be missing it.

4 player co-op/terrorist hunt over live and up to 16 player for other game types.

To DigiMask:

I know that it hasn't been perfected yet, but my guy is pretty close looking to me, except that I look bald, it doesnt detect my hair. I also have a small beard but it doesnt show up, it just shows up as dark stubble. Any chance that showing hair and facial hair in the future?

Hi.

Can't guarantee I can check in here frequently, but I'll do my best to answer questions.

Hair and beard are two different issues:
1) Hair. We are working on this. It is the single element that has caused us to pull our own hair out!!! Whilst our face detection alogrithms are pretty good (and improving daily), it is extremely difficult to detect someone's hair and replicate it with any decent fidelity. Quite simply, we know a human head has two eyes, a nose and a mouth and so we can 'lock on' to those features and figure the rest out from there.
With hair, there are no set starting parameters. Everyone has a different style, length, texture and colour! It's a nightmare, but believe me we do hope to have a solution soon. We have some extremely large brains working on it right now. Your patience is appreciated! ;)

2) Beard. I have just got this straight from the horse's mouth (one of those 'Large brains' I just referred to) - Lighting is key. Obviously any facial hair will just be replicated as part of the texture, but if there is too much shadow when the photo is taken, the process might assume that the hair/stubble is shadow also and shade the face accordingly.
Our Computer Vision expert suggests: Follow the guidelines as best as you can (www.digimask.com - CONSUMER). If you see it clearly on the photo (good contrast) then you should be able to get a good image. Bear in mind though that the beard will only go as far as the bottom of your chin, so if you're Santa Claus you're screwed! :)

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Gary

has anyone been recieving lockups during the game, its a great game its been the only game I've been known to stick with, and its only the multiplayer. I haven't even started the single player game yet. Just curious if anyone gets lockups. I get them during camera taking, and co-op splitscreen. Also when hitting the guide button in the middle of the lobby. I can still talk to everyone, but it completely locks the guide in place. Anyone think this is a soon to be patch addressed issue? Along with the Attack and Defend Briefcase Lockups?

Anyone with the Pistoleer Achievement, do you have to get it with only a pistol, or can you use a shield too. I played quite a few terrorist hunts last night with a friend, and figured I had to be getting close to the 150 Kills need for it. Thanks in advance.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter.

Personally, I wasn't using it when the achievement popped up.
Ok, then I must not have killed quite as many as I thought, I am probably sitting on 149 and should have just played a bit longer before asking about it. ;)

Game is still fun online but the bullcrap is apparant....Like in an attack and defend match i was playing we couldnt pick up the item....It was on calypso casino...Hopefully the patch fixes these things

Great news for RSV fans! A list of issues that will be fixed in the upcoming patch has been posted by the developers. Though these aren't ALL the glitches I've experienced throughout the game, this is still a good amount.:applause:

Finally!! Those aren't all the bugs, but it's a great start. Hopefully this will encourage other CAGs to play. I haven't seen too many people playing this yet.

I rented Vegas a few days ago. Is it just me or is the cover system seriously obsolete? I'm talking more about the single-player because I didn't have much time playing multiplayer. I would hide behind something then get shot, forcing me to move out of cover wherein I get hit some more, if not dropped for good. Why have a cover system when it is not a solid formula? Am I missing something here? I had to return it so I spent the last few hours playing it out like Rambo w/o using cover. Ugh...it felt like Black Arrow all over again. Don't get me wrong, I felt like there's more than meets the eye, but from a 5-day rental first impression, the cover system was trash, which I wish it would've been more solid like GoW. Otherwise, wouldn't I rather just play GRAW?

If you are all the way on the edge of cover, usually part of your arm sticks out. There is also the possibility of the height advantage.

Actually, after playing more of multiplayer, I prefer R6's cover system over GOW's, with one exception. I prefer holding a button to stay in cover, and since there aren't 3 or 4 different actions assigned to it, I rarley do the wrong thing. Sometimes, in GOW, I would try to roll away from gunfire, but I'd acidently stick to a wall. The only thing I do not like about R6's cover is the lack of a SWAT turn.

I think I saw an option in the menus to change the cover button from hold to press.

It's just you.

so i finally played this the other day with a friend of mine. We played something elimination split screen. I think it was terrorist elimination actually. Anyways, we started playing and holy fuck. The walls had blurry textures from like the N64 era. The cars looked fucking horrible. I'm not even try to exaggerate it, it was really bad. Even he was turned off by it.

Then he showed me the single player which looked fantastic. I mean, really damn good. So I have to ask, is the split screen mode really tone down the graphics THAT badly? I mean honest to god, the walls were all just really blurry textures the cars looked extremely bad.

Has anybody had this problem in split screen play? Or was his 360 lagging in loading the textures or something...?

Oh. I agree with you about the roll in Gears. It should be a seperate button for sure.

Regarding Vegas, does anyone think they over did the recoil on the guns in this one? I find most of the guns worthless, and that's after playing all of the older Rainbow Six games. I seriously think I could shoot more accurately in real life.

The UMP45 is the only gun I can get any accuracy out of.

How would this game look on a 13" standard definition TV? I mean, would you be able to see the enemies without too much trouble? Eurogamer said this might be an issue on SDTVs which worries me, but I haven't heard it anywhere else, so do other people think it would be problematic?

As long as your brand isn't some wierd ones with super crap contrast ratio, it shouldn't be a problem. I have a 19" 5 year old SDTV but I have component video inputs  . It makes a huge different from just using composite video. The draw distance is probably what you are worried about. You won't have a problem at all seeing things far away. I had no problem on my shitty TV. However, when you do play multiplayer, you will have trouble, especially because split-screen for Vegas is vertical (left and right) and you can't change it, at least to my knowledge.

Are the graphics any better then the demo? The demo looked ugly. Hopefully the final product looks a lot cleaner and better compared to the demo.
Are the graphics any better then the demo? The demo looked ugly. Hopefully the final product looks a lot cleaner and better compared to the demo.
Yes... the demo was very low-res and jittery for me but the retail version is not. The only thing I notice in the move from SP to MP is a slight drop in complexity for the MP models... nothing that really jumps out and says "Ugly" the way the demo did.

Does anybody else have problems creating co-op games and inviting people to play?

I tried today to create a game for me and my cousin and everytime I invited him it would say failed to connect. However other people could join my game... it was strange. Anybody know if i'm doing something wrong?

I'm liking this game, been out of town mostly since I got it but I got to play a few rounds the other night and it lead to some questions...
In Co-op there are only 2 modes, story co-op and terrorist hunt. Is there any way to turn on respawns on Terrorist Hunt? My friend that was playing had never played and RS6 before and was getting killed right off the bat.

Secondly, I figured out that on live games that you can play games with respawns but I couldn't get a guest to sign into live. Can you have guests with you in live games like you can in GRAW?

Also, I've yet to play a system linked game but when you do can you play games aside from Terrorist Hunt and Story Coop?

Thanks, and any fun game types/maps that guys wanna recommend will be appreciated.
