Rainbow Six: Vegas - Gen. Discussion & Info

well I just played the multiplayer demo for about half an hour.

FUN!

I think I'll have to add this game to my get list in the near future, I just have something against paying $60 for a game...

The only frustrating thing about this game is the online matchmaking part. You get booted from games a lot. Also once you finish a game it kicks you back out to the multiplayer screen and you have to search for another one all over.
Don't get me started on the dweebs that sit in the game ready up screen and dont hit ready and make you wait forever.
These things make it hard to maximize your playing time and get promotion points.
Other then that, the game is more then I expected and incredibly fun.

The only problem I've experienced in online multiplayer is that laggy games tend to freeze my 360. So I would advise if you ever get in a laggy game just exit right away. You can usually tell if it's going to lag if there are 2 or more people with red connection speeds or if you hear someone consistently firing a rifle for more than 5 seconds (it tends to go on for a minute, meaning someone glitched out/froze).

Another glitch I've experienced is that in lobbies, not everyone can hear you (even those on your team). The lobby is designed so that everyone (even the opposing team) can hear you, but that's not the case. Just don't worry if your teammates can't hear you in the lobby. Everything is fixed to team speak only once the game is launched.

In addition, I love how you can hear the opposing team's chatter if they use their mics when they are in close proximity to you (much like Halo 2), so sometimes you can figure out how they are going to assault a certain place you're defending.

As for the single player (now that I've got some more time in), I still wish there was a way to individually give out orders to each member. They always stay too close to each other and then get fragged or even get in each other's way when shooting at hostiles. I also would have like to option to pick what equipment each squad member would use as well (like in the old school Rainbow Six games).
Was thinking about getting this but I see literally NO ONE play it online. Picked up Viva Pinata instead..
Same here.

They are either playing Gears, Smackdown, or Viva Pinata.
Was thinking about getting this but I see literally NO ONE play it online. Picked up Viva Pinata instead..
I play it quite a bit. :D Haven't popped in Gears of War since I picked it up. Hopefully more CAGs will pick it up soon; the game is so much fun with teamwork involved (finding those people are few and far between) and most people don't even use their damn mics in multiplayer games even when it says their mic is hooked up.

I dunno, I guess I'm use to PC shooters. The tediousness of finding a suitable game its a lot more painful then on the pc where you find a server and can stay in it for as long as you like with nonstop killing. This system has you going in and out after every game.
Now that you mention the laggin out, I have heard the nonstop gunfire but didn't know whta it was. I assumed it was some kind of machinery since it was a wherehouse/refinery level.
As for getting booted a lot, it always happens right after the game screen loads up before the level even starts, so maybe its a glitch.

I still wish they would implement some sort of ready timer on it so that if you take forever to hit ready you are booted. I'm sick of waiting 5 minutes for people to hit ready. If your not ready then dont play lol.

I agree with every point you just made. This is easily the most fun I've had online since RS3:BA all those many moons ago, and that even though I've yet to play a single game with people on my friendslist. It's rare for me to tolerate the general population of an online game like this...

A lot of people are probably going to get this from Buy.com so they may not have it yet. I got mine from amazon and have yet to open it because I want to finish Gears before doing so (and get further in Smackdown).

The non-stop gunfire issue is definately someone lagging out/frozen 360. At first I thought it was someone with a light machine gun, but then I thought, "Man doesn't that guy need to reload?" I looked into the situation and it is a glitch they are looking to fix with an update, as with other glitches found in the game as well.

As for getting into games (for some reason I only play ranked attack and defend games; don't really like the other modes), ranked games fill up a lot faster, so even joining a game with 3 people in it won't even be a long wait. It seems that more people like to play ranked games as opposed to unranked. The getting booted a lot problem may be something with your connection if you join too late or something like that. It can also be because of what rank you are. Most hosts (well the ones I've played in) tend to boot those with the rank of PV2/PFC, which is pretty unfair but whatever.

Also, I think there should be more options for spawn points in the game. Some maps provide huge disadvantages for teams depending on the situation since the other team can just spawn camp, but that's what flashbangs and tear gas grenades are for.;)

I think you just nailed it (I'm still a pvt). I didn't realize that was a common practice . I just dont understand why they wait to do it after everyone readies up and the level has loaded.
I also notice a lot of team padding. People move from a low ranked team to a higher (sgt etc )one so the skill levels are very lopsided. However looking at some of the ladders, I see a lot of high skilled pvts so that kind of negates that theory I guess.
I guess I should try more types of games. So far I usually sick with the team ones and havent tried out the coop or the other types. I'm still getting to know the levels and objectives so I like to hide amongst others while I get my bearings ;)
It can only get better since you cant rank down hehe.:bouncy:

Quick question for those that have the game: Do you still get experience points if you play unranked games (player match)? I haven't played an unranked game before so I was just wondering if there was any difference.

Yes, you still get exp in Player matches -- I'm a second-bar specialist and I've not played a single ranked match.

I just started the single player....no time really for my free rental though. Seems to be pretty darn good though. I may have to pick this up eventually. Hopefully I get a chance to play more today...we'll see, new babies take a lot of time ;)

Finally played the demo... whoever said a long time ago that the game feels like SWAT 4 for the PC was dead on the money.

I loved the single player demo... I will pick up the game ASAP.

This game looks like ass on my s-video connection >_<

Realistic is pretty hard, took me couple hours just to beat the first "level".
Realistic is pretty hard, took me couple hours just to beat the first "level".
It gets tougher as you progress through the story (realistic difficulty). The AI of your squad members doesn't help much either. Try doing levels in co-op story mode so you have a better idea of what's going on around you and how you should approach each scenario. Real people are much better squad members than idiotic AI (that is if they want to work as a team instead of going guns blazing).;)
My scaned face looked terrible. My guy looked like he had down syndrome
I heard it works better if you scan your face in natural daylight as opposed to scanning it with artificial light during the night (at least that's what people on RSV say in lobbies). Don't take my word for it though, I don't even have a vision camera yet.

If you guys want to play on Realistic mode at all, especially if you want the achievement, avoid playing on Normal at all costs. Apparently the game reverts back to Normal regardless of the difficulty level you chose if you exit out of the game and load your checkpoint. You'll be fine if you just stick to Realistic mode though. A surefire way to tell is that your reticule turns red when you hover over an enemy in normal, but it never changes in realistic.

Oh yeah, don't bother trying to do the splitscreen terrorist hunt levels either, those achievements are broken too, although they might have just been mislabeled.

Great game, but it's ridiculous that they let it ship like this and it'll be weeks before they do anything about even the most blatant fuck-ups.

Also, on a different note, which gas mask works against tear gas, or do they both work the same way?

Yeah, if you started on Realistic you should be fine, you can check to make sure by using the crosshair/reticule tip above. Only thing is that I've read that playing online coop on normal may throw a monkey wrench into the equation, but I'm not sure about that.

Not sure about the gas mask because I've been sticking to single player, but that sounds awesome that they added that attribute to it so it has a purpose other than looking cool.

Wish I could could get this game now, I just don't have the time for it.

It's on my Christmas want list, so hopefully I'll be playing this next month.

I just got mine and mapped my face this morning. It's incredibly accurate and a little creepy.... I didn't expect this to look nearly so much like me.
My scaned face looked terrible. My guy looked like he had down syndrome
Probably b/c you look like that in real life too, just took a game to help you realize ;)

This game is really good...too bad I've had maybe a half hour to play my rental. The new baby really limits my time. I want to get this eventually though....

Got the game today... if the entire game captures the feel, pacing, atmosphere, and gameplay of the demo, this game is going to be my 360 GOTY.

Hell, it may be my GOTY period.
Lol, why do the (not really a spoiler, but...)
Asians always do the "hacking"
Same reason fat guys are programmers, or the one that can fix the computers. And they always seem to be eating in games. Namely Cheeto like products.

Got this earlier in the week. Only gripe is I feel the checkpoints are a little far apart for realistic. I had to pay realistic for the throwback to the first few RB6 games.

Has anyone else had problems seeing other peoples scanned faces when playing online? I played with richlough and goosedude yesterday and neither of us could see each other's face scans.

I have heard this is a very common problem, but none of my friends have the game so I don't really look for face scanned players.

is it just my peice of shit tv or is it way too dark to see shit for everyone else also? It's really frustraiting shooting aimlessly into the shadows and hoping I hit something...

Goto options and turn up the brightness.

EDIT: the IN-GAME options, dumbass.
Has anyone else had problems seeing other peoples scanned faces when playing online? I played with richlough and goosedude yesterday and neither of us could see each other's face scans.
It takes a while for the face to actually load into the game. So you start off with the default generic face, then as the game progresses it should load. At times it takes a LONG time to load so you may not even see at times. This is a glitch that everyone is complaining about on the RSV forums so it's pretty common.
is it just my peice of shit tv or is it way too dark to see shit for everyone else also? It's really frustraiting shooting aimlessly into the shadows and hoping I hit something...
I usually set it to 7 on the brightness settings.
The remote broke ages ago
Go into the in-game options of RSV. Video/brightness settings and you should see it is at 5. Go up to whatever brightness you want, but the higher you go, the graphics tend to suffer.

My copy came yesterday from Amazon. I just played it for a little bit and so far so good.

I made it to the hostage room in the first mission and performed what appeared to be a perfect room sweep but apparently a hostage was killed (he/she must have been invisible, I didn't notice any dead civilians in the room). At that point I turned it off since I wasn't in the mood to replay the last ten minutes or so in the train yard.

I haven't played any matches online yet but I'll probably get a few rounds in later tonight.

Yeah, the light bloom gets out of hand at 7 and above for me... I wasn't aware posters could glow so brightly in real life....

I find I only need to tweak the brightness in a few of the levels, so try to keep it at 5 or 6 and only crank it up as needed. The game definitely looks better as you get back towards 5.
