Rainbow Six: Vegas - Gen. Discussion & Info

Is there any way to smoothly move from cover, slip out, and charge through the door (like in Gears of War)? I've tried, but it just feels a bit wonky. It would be sweet to switch covers like in GOW as well, but oh well. Still getting this on day one for sure. Hope that the entire single player campaign can be co-op too.

There's no one button cover to cover move like gears, but I really like being able to move in and out of cover so smoothly with the left trigger. I don't feel like I get "stuck" the way I sometimes do in Gears.

And yes, the entire sp campaign is co-op with 4 players. The biggest reason I'm getting this right away. That and the fact that I also got in on the $40 Amazon po....

I had a blast with both...dont worry amazon will honor your order....you may just get it a couple of days later like i am...I dont get it until the 27th but at $40 it was worth it
Not diggin the demo.
Me neither, not my style. Definately not getting this one.

Has anyone spotted any deals on this game yet (aside from the obvious GGC at BB)? I was hoping Fry's would have it for $47.99 today, but it's not listed in the ad so no dice there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

My GS said that they would have it in today, so hopefully they give me a call here soon to go pick it up. I don't want to have to be the one calling and bugging them to see if they have it or not.

I really liked the single player, wasn't really digging the MP demo though. Never really been a fan of rainbow six multiplayer.
cant wait to fuck with the cam.. u can still put your face in the game right?
Yes. Multiplayer only I believe.
fucking awesome...
I personally haven't shaved in a while that way my guy will have some rocking facial hair. I just have to figure out if I want to keep it all or just shave it all off and leave a nice "trash stache"??? ;)

Sweet!

"Sgt. Browneye! Get up here and take out those terrorists!"

"Yes sir, Lt. KaneRobot's Balls!"

lol mapped my face already...not too bad.. ill do it again though with natural sunlight.. that should be better...

awesome game.. ist level alone is pretty long...

Was there supposed to be more included with the LE? I only ask because the paper sleeve is about 1/8" thicker than the plastic case is. In otherwords, there is a significant gap between the case and the paper sleeve that goes over it. I'm assuming it's just a mistake of Ubisoft either not finalizing the LE design until the last minute or someone there simply doesn't know how to measure right.
is there 4 player co-op on one system?
I really need to know this too. I actually know a guy that is going to go out and buy the game and 3 controllers if it does.

Picked it up today, and it was well worth it. The single player is just what you'd expect from a RS game, but the cover system adds an all-new depth to it. The blurry darkness effect (when you get shot) does tend to hurt your eyes though, but it works great and adds to the atmosphere of the game. As one would expect the AI isn't that smart (even on the "realistic" difficulty), though at times they are pretty good at flanking you. I still would have wished that you could individually command your teammates, so hopefully they can work that out for the next installment. To put it in simpler terms, it's almost like a fusion of Gears of War and GRAW if you think about it. It would have been better if they took some cover tactics from Gears of War though. The rappelling option also adds a different perspective on how to tackle the game and has a tremendous affect on how you plan certain assaults; not to mention it's awesome when 4 people break through different windows on opposite sides to infiltrate the building.

As for the multiplayer portion it's pretty awesome; especially when you're doing 4-player co-op story/hunt over live. For those of you wondering, I'm not sure if there is 4-player co-op on one console but I will check (I know that there is 2 player coop on one console though). With every game, you gain experience, which helps you achieve higher ranks, and allows you to unlock new equipment for your character. Multiplayer has various options to choose from, with the best probably being "attack and defend." The other options are your basic multiplayer games like deathmatch, team deathmatch, survival, etc. The max amount of players I've been in was 14, but I'm not sure if it goes any higher than that. I did experience some lag when it got all crazy in the casino, but that was due to some people with horrible connection speeds. No lag whatsoever in the co-op games though.

The graphics are nice especially in the single player, but (like in GRAW) when you go into multiplayer mode the graphics seem to take a major hit in detail and clarity (clearly not "next-gen"). It's no Gears of War graphics, but it's good in its own right. The gun sounds, explosions, and music all seem like they come straight out of "24," and it makes you feel like Jack Bauer sometimes. All of them are very authentic, and I think they did a great job on focusing on the realism of their weapons.

Using the Vision Cam (gets you 30 achievement points btw) is sort of a bonus than anything. While it does seem to get an accurate picture of the person (make sure you do this when the sun is still out) the face doesn't seem to blend in all that well with all the other graphical textures in the game. It just looks weird, and sometimes horrible from different angles. Maybe my friend did it wrong, but it's still hilarious to see his face whenever we get into a game.

Overall the game is a great addition to the Rainbow 6 series. It's a must buy if you've got a 360 (mainly for the multiplayer experience; especially the co-op gameplay). I would have to give it an 8.5/10, as there are still some issues that need to be fixed (AI, squad control, matchmaking). It's not the best game out there, but it's solid and the multiplayer will make you come back for more.

If any CAGs want to play some co-op add me. I'll probably be on all night. Make sure to set your 3-letter prefix to "CAG" to show your spirit.:D

Man this game is intense. I think I'm set on shooter for awhile. Between Vegas, COD3, FEAR, & Gears, I don't know which to spend more time with.

Whats up with the lack of posts?
Doesn't seem CAGers are all over this game, did the multiplayer demo turn them off?
That and even on Gamefaqs its the #2 game on the msg boards, but seems alot less people compared to the old R6's being talked about. I blame Lockdown to.

No, the real CAG's are busy getting cheap shit during the post turkey day frenzy. :) I know I'm not the only one here who snuck in on the amazon $40 price on Vegas who is still waiting to receive it. I predict more posts in the coming week...

Great review. Ill get it when it dips a little bit lower. Thanks!

does anyone know where i can find a caopy of the manual online?
or can someone post up scans about the co-op, because I want to be sure that the game has 2-player split-screen offline co-op.

Anyone playing the single-player campaign on Realistic? I am in desperate need of help on Dante's Casino..

When you reach the arcade and Gabriel, then what would seem like every terrorist within a mile radius starts storming into the room; how in the HELL do you survive? I did a good job fighting them off at first, killed several, but they just keep coming, the team and I get severely overwhelmed/mauled and that's it. Every time, no matter what kind of strategy I try to use.. it's driving me mad.
What is the maximum number of players for co-op terrorist hunt?
4 online/link and 2 splitscreen.
4 online/link and 2 splitscreen.
how about for campain mode? or is terrorist hunt the same thing?

They are similar, terrorist hunt is just co-op in the multiplayer maps. Both have the same player limits.

Either the last mission in the campaign is glitched or I really don't know what the hell is going on. I wasted a couple hours trying to get it done and it was all for nothing.

In the warehouse where you have to hack the computer so you can get to Irena, no matter what I do, I always get a mission failed because "Irena got away" or something ridiculous like that. I'm not doing anything to cause this.. I just sit down there and fend off the terrorists the best I can while Jung hacks the computer. Isn't that what I'm suppose to be doing here?

I don't get it.. but I'm done trying for a while, too much frustration.

The computer got destroyed or the guy using it died. That part is pretty hard, the best way to beat it is to figure out where they rope down from and kill them before they shoot.

Oh okay.. seem to have run into another snag though. After I kill all the guys that drop down, Jung just seems to endlessly hack the computer and never finishes (I sat there waiting for about 4-5 minutes). I send Michael around the room to check for any that may be hiding but nothing.. and I can't go out to check myself or the mission ends.

What's up with this?

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out. I moved forward a little amongst all the boxes and it triggered more terrorists to spawn. Makes no sense, but that was it.
