[quote name='Ma12kez']Picked it up today, and it was well worth it. The single player is just what you'd expect from a RS game, but the cover system adds an all-new depth to it. The blurry darkness effect (when you get shot) does tend to hurt your eyes though, but it works great and adds to the atmosphere of the game. As one would expect the AI isn't that smart (even on the "realistic" difficulty), though at times they are pretty good at flanking you. I still would have wished that you could individually command your teammates, so hopefully they can work that out for the next installment. To put it in simpler terms, it's almost like a fusion of Gears of War and GRAW if you think about it. It would have been better if they took some cover tactics from Gears of War though. The rappelling option also adds a different perspective on how to tackle the game and has a tremendous affect on how you plan certain assaults; not to mention it's awesome when 4 people break through different windows on opposite sides to infiltrate the building.
As for the multiplayer portion it's pretty awesome; especially when you're doing 4-player co-op story/hunt over live. For those of you wondering, I'm not sure if there is 4-player co-op on one console but I will check (I know that there is 2 player coop on one console though). With every game, you gain experience, which helps you achieve higher ranks, and allows you to unlock new equipment for your character. Multiplayer has various options to choose from, with the best probably being "attack and defend." The other options are your basic multiplayer games like deathmatch, team deathmatch, survival, etc. The max amount of players I've been in was 14, but I'm not sure if it goes any higher than that. I did experience some lag when it got all crazy in the casino, but that was due to some people with horrible connection speeds. No lag whatsoever in the co-op games though.
The graphics are nice especially in the single player, but (like in GRAW) when you go into multiplayer mode the graphics seem to take a major hit in detail and clarity (clearly not "next-gen"). It's no Gears of War graphics, but it's good in its own right. The gun sounds, explosions, and music all seem like they come straight out of "24," and it makes you feel like Jack Bauer sometimes. All of them are very authentic, and I think they did a great job on focusing on the realism of their weapons.
Using the Vision Cam (gets you 30 achievement points btw) is sort of a bonus than anything. While it does seem to get an accurate picture of the person (make sure you do this when the sun is still out) the face doesn't seem to blend in all that well with all the other graphical textures in the game. It just looks weird, and sometimes horrible from different angles. Maybe my friend did it wrong, but it's still hilarious to see his face whenever we get into a game.
Overall the game is a great addition to the Rainbow 6 series. It's a must buy if you've got a 360 (mainly for the multiplayer experience; especially the co-op gameplay). I would have to give it an 8.5/10, as there are still some issues that need to be fixed (AI, squad control, matchmaking). It's not the best game out there, but it's solid and the multiplayer will make you come back for more.
If any CAGs want to play some co-op add me. I'll probably be on all night. Make sure to set your 3-letter prefix to "CAG" to show your spirit.
