Because I can guarantee if an employee in that store gave a call to their Regional Manager saying, "hey thanks for the penny stuff! it's great to have a little perk like this for working here" that the store manager would have been fired the next day.

I don't mean reading it here, I mean reading it in an employee handbook. Right after the companies merged, it was added.

Edit: It wasn't the new-hire handbook, but something along the lines of the POS manual.

okay. Updated the wiki with the very exciting madden and ncaa guides (was waiting, hoping I'd have something else to add to the wiki, but it's been snorzville in penny land lately.

Also, as we're sorta in drought for possible drops at the moment, I've updated Post Three. I've put the guides that need confirmation (I want at least two CAGs, one to report, another to confirm) that they've dropped.

LOL It's been $4.99 for about 6 months or longer, as I think I was the first to report on it dropping to that price. :) However, I have a feeling that for the true cheapasses on here, that $4.99 price will never be low enough for them.

I'm just glad I got mine for free when I put a $5 pre-order on God Of War II about 6-8 months ago.
 
Well Gwen, if you need something to add to the possible drops list, here's the guides that have been removed in the last few months from the BB site:

The strategy guide was so big you had to put it in your truck? lol, my truck is full of blankets and car liquids.

I'm pretty sure the Devil Summoner guide is actually a penny now...could've swore I heard someone say that about a month ago or so.
 
People told me the Scarface guide was a penny and EVERY DAMNED GS I've EVER had it checked at, it STILL rings up FULL PRICE.

So, either some people got a clerk who just shoved extra guides in the bag or there was an alternate UPC which pennied or SOMETHING, since 6 out of 6 local GS stores have the guide IN STOCK and I've had it PC'd every time.

And EVERY time, it's come up as $16.99 or whatever the full retail is on that screen by the register.

And before someone says 'well, maybe they did a price override on it', I seriously doubt that, since all they did was SCAN it and it came up the MSRP.

So, can we get a definitive confirmation on this guide, pennied or NOT, with proof?
 
Sam Goody? I thought the entire chain was gutted and its products sold off when FYE/Transworld acquired them? So, that means I have a guide to look for at the local FYE now, like I found the Psi-Ops guide for PS2/Xbox a long while ago for .01 @ one.

Thing is, they gave me the 'can't sell it to ya' shpeel, then they softened and said 'if I bought something, they'd sell it', so I bought a pack of gum and got the guide for .01 . LOL

Only other guide I've heard of pennying at a Transworld store was the original PS2 version of the GTA Double Pack guide, which was covered in one of the old penny guide threads.

Sick part is, I found a standalone Vice City guide(for PS2) in Johnson City, NY at the FYE @ the mall there and it STILL rings up full price. So, unfortunately, not EVERY older guide eventually pennies.

Scarface was definitely pennied at BB, I got one...or two. I haven't seen it pennied anywhere else.

There were a few isolated incidents of people getting Scarface at GS/EB back somewhere in thread 6. Probably just a system error in my uneducated opinion.

hmm I saw 2 different WoW books at my local gamestop. does it look like a binder with another book attached to it? it's sealed right?
 
I didn't pick it up (not really into WOW) and someone else waned it...so...but it actually looked like a hardcover book, I think it was titled "The art of World of Warcraft." I do know that it was originally $24.99...if that's any help.

SH FTNW has been dropped for a week or two now, but the rest are new. I guess they're releasing yet ANOTHER new edition of the Godfather guide to coincide with the PS3/Wii versions and add those respective sections to it.

And, wouldn't it figure, after my only local GS which let me grab guides still either fired all their employees or they all quit, NOW the Art of WOW book pennied. I've been checking that one for months, since I thought it looked interesting. The rest don't really pique my interest, so this is yet another drop with BLEH for me.

I will be posting more later, but I'd just like to contribute that the pennied guides included Devil Summoner, Pokemon Ranger, .Hack, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy I & II, and Hitman (the ones I can recall off the top of my head, anyway). There might have been a Xenosaga 3 in there, too.

I just had a copy of DQ VIII guide PC'ed at Gamestop on Monday. Son of a bitch.

I can't get there until tomorrow and I know my local GS manager will have them gone by then. :bomb:

GameStop's never carried or even had a listing for it, so I doubt it.
 
I saw most of these stacked behind the counter at 2 different GS's today. One kid scanned Shadow Hearts for me, paused uncomfortably then gave me a price of $10. I started to put it back on the shelf and he quickly said he would hold on to it.

I could sure use an Okami.
 
The Okami and Tales guides are tempting, but I've never had too much luck at EB/GS. I'd dumpster dive this one GS, but they switched managers awhile back. The manager there is pretty anal about destroying the guides and not just throwing them away.

I think going tomorrow will be too late. But I need to go anyway... who knows, maybe trading in a shit-ton of games will make them let me take 1 or 2.

True, but I know some CAGs were holding off pulling the trigger even @ $5 because they wanted to wait till it pennied. Well, here's their chance, but if their GS's are as AR as mine locally about the guides, then they're SOL too.

To me, if it's a guide you want, for $5, it's usually worth it. Now, if only they'd put ALL guides down to that level instead of the usual cycle of reg price, then pennied out.

I would buy guides at $5, since that's the price that I find most reasonable (if I can't get it at 1 cent). I would definitely pay $5 for VP2, since I'm playing that right now.
 
I actually paid $9.99 for a mint condition Zelda: Wind Waker Prima guide. I had them pull it out of the back...which is why it was so minty and awesome.
 
Didn't see it posted yet but Kingdom Hearts II Limited Edition was also pennied out (my best score in addition to most of what was posted already), as well as Supreme Commander PC Guide.

Yea I saw the KH2 LE guide, but the employee wanted it while I was going through guides. That wouldve been nice.
