Hicksville, NY. The sign was is good condition so they probably didn't change it because it was new during the merger or something. There is a Funcoland about 10 minutes from my house that got a new sign about a year before the merge and it's still Funcoland. And to this day, they are still my favorite GS store.

Ok, speaking of Gamestops, I have a question! Does anyone know if I can return used games at a different GS then where I bought it? I haven't played Magna Carta yet but I'm hearing less than flattering things. If it turns out I don't like it, I don't wanna head out 40 minutes to return it.
 
Picked up Tales of the Abyss and Kingdom Hearts II limited edition today, and all it cost me was a super smash bros. brawl pre-order. I love my gamestop.
 
You can add another guide to the EB/GS list as being pennied as I found one today with a .01 sticker on it....

They will usually let you do the return at another store, as long as you have the original receipt. I know I did that a bunch when I got buyers remorse with some of the stickered to hell PS1 games I grabbed from an out of the way dump store.

I think that was when they were still normal price though, since I'd heard that the prices had JUST switched to 75% off. I'm just lucky I've kinda got out of that stage, the whole buyers remorse thing. You get strange looks when one day you buy 2-10 games, then the next day, you bring them back. Mind you, I'm still a little remorseful about my copy of Command & Conquer for PS1 that I grabbed, but it's WAYYYYY beyond the 2 week return period already.
 
I know it's not a penny, but has the FFXII LE guide gone down in price at GS/EB? Say, to 19.99? I didn't see it on gamestop.com. I've still got a little credit and I know a store that has a copy.

New CAGs I'm not so upset at (even if the TRADE THREAD LINK IS IN THE FRIGGEN FIRST POST), but you vets who are posting your trade haves and wants are NOT helping.

Some of you have a pattern of doing this over the past drops and game clearances, and there is no excuse for this. CAG has a streamlined and effecient manner of tracking deals, and also supplies us a place to trade. We're all cheap here, but to be so self-concerned as to repeatedly disobey the requests of the site for your own greed is pathetic. So. Knock. It. Off.

The Superman skin for one of the consoles supposedly dropped a while ago too, as well as ALL used PC games and at least one NEW PC game I can think of offhand: American McGee's Bad Day LA

Other than that, I've also heard of the PS2 network adapter for the 'fat' PS2 being a penny in system if the startup disc isn't included with it or something to that effect.

Take those for what you will, but yes, other items besides guides DO drop. However, we don't always find out about them.
 
I was just wondering if anyone had the scoop as to when Rogue Galaxy was going to drop again.

Nothing spectacular but there were one or two pc games.

thats probably EBX, or Eb Games. the 2 most horrible store in that area since they never have anything good to offer except for a buttload of crappy games.

Picked up Pokemon Ranger and Splinter Cell DA guides at Best Buy. Still two SC guides, but I've cleaned out all the Pokemon guides.

Also have two GoW guides left, but they both have stickers over the UPC.
 
i had no problem at all finding guides, except one as*wipe at the store in taylors, i picked up about 35 guides no problem. guy in taylors is just an idiot, they lost their best worker so i dont even go there except for penny guide trips

i agree with guinaevere that trades and i got this and i want this and other things of that nature should be added into the trade thread with a post of maybe hey check my trades it got updated or something along those lines
 
OK, I definitely have an unusual day to report(yesterday). Anyway, last weekend I snagged the only opened copy of the God Of War II guide from the other BB by me. Well, last night I went to the Circuit City just down the hill from there....and price matched the receipt from that guide for one of their copies of the GOW II guide.

After about 3-5 minutes on the phone with a manager, the girl was told to PM the price from BB for me, but that they 'couldn't give me the 110% PM guarantee'(not that I would've pressed them paying ME to take this guide off them, but I thought about it).

I joked with the girl working at the Customer Service desk, asking her if her manager said how many copies of the guide I could have PM'd. She said only one, though she also said her manager never said there was a limit on them.

This has me thinking to send a friend in with the SAME receipt later today to try and grab the other 6-8 copies of the guide from the PM.

Anyway, if you can find one of the BB 'wrong SKU' copies and keep the receipt, hit CC and maybe if you're lucky, you can grab a spare or ten via a PM.

BTW, I don't think they called BB to confirm the price, but the girl said her manager felt it might've been a promo price on the guide, etc, etc.

I couldn't stop laughing on my way out the door with my PM'd guide. LOL

Got lucky today.

Walked into a GS, and asked about a small stack of guides by the counter on the floor.

I asked if there was any chance I could have a couple, fully expecting to get the, "NO - they're going to be vaporized!"

Instead, I got a, "They're free - please take them!"

Tee Hee!

New manager at GS = oops!

Anyway, here's what I was able to get, leaving the 10 copies of Madden 07 behind...

What actually brought me in the store was to get the only copy of SMT: Persona 3 guide. I NEVER pay full price for a guide, but I have a feeling this one will be a toughie down the road...

You have to switch tags with one of the 0.01 promo items on the floor. And make sure you do it right in front of the customer service desk.
 
Nice, CheapestGamer. I might have to try that myself if I can find my $0.01 GoWII receipt from BB, since the other two GoW guides are unopened.
 
i would say the chances are slim that a store will PM something for more than 99% off. They give me trouble for something that has a $20 difference

Some items, no, it doesn't require a manager's/supervisor's approval. Depends on the item and their cost on it.

The DVD's I bought yesterday with a $10 off coupon, which knocked them down to $19.99 didn't need a manager's approval, though any of the GamePro coupons for $5 off when they don't work automatically require someone else's approval.
 
So wait If I go to Gamestop all these game guides ring up as 1 cent?

Yes, but the odds of you finding them are slim, and the odds of you finding them and the clerk letting you take them are even slimmer.

The point of marking a guide as a penny is so it is not sold, but destroyed, as stated in the OP.

Got lucky at this GS (my new haven, best GS I've ever been). I found 3 Dragon Quest 8 guides, going to keep them for myself. The guy asked me "do you work at Gamestop?". LOL. He was real cool though, no problems letting me have them.

Yeah, cause even thinking out loud about ripping other stickers off something or switching stickers is most certainly frowned upon here. Plus, it's not something I would do, since I kinda like the rare sales that BB has and don't wanna be persona non gratis at ANY of them.
 
Yeah, that's all I did Rocko and after the girl talked with her manager, they approved it.

I think I also mentioned there being 2 SKU's or something, which you may want to avoid since I was waiting for them to call BB and shoot me down since they didn't have anymore opened copies with the original UPC @ BB.
 
i actually saw one GoW2 guide that has no plastic. So i got a little excited but when i looked at the barcode it was covered with the second barcode thats originally on the plastic wrapping. i didnt even wanna try so i just passed.
 
I may be losing my mind right now, but has something else been removed from the Best Buy site within the last 2 days. I could've sworn there were 63 a day or two ago.
 
Went to CC, and sadly they didn't have any GoW2 guides. Ah well, at least I got the one from BB.

Stopped at Gamestop and found one Devil Summoner guide, he gave it to me. Went to another and got Xenosaga III, Battlefield 2142, and Virtua Fighter 5 for a penny each. They had three Neverwinter Nights, one Fight Night Round 3, and two Battlefields left that I know were all pennied. Didn't have a list so I'm not sure if I left anything else behind.

My local EB has been back and forth over their policy lately... Last time in, I asked for them to check if [small stack of guides] had dropped (I knew some had, others I took at a guess). Was told most of them were pulled. Asked if they had kept them or if they'd been dropped in the trash yet, and the wonderful Third Key brought out the pulled guides. Not a great haul, but anything is better than nufin. =D
 
LOL I got shot down when I tried to hit the same CC earlier tonight again, got a manager this time directly. He told me 'I got lucky to PM off of just a receipt, since it has to be an actual AD that the item is marked down in to PM'.

Ahhh well....once I determine which one I'm keeping and which one I'm giving to my one friend, there WILL be ONE GOW 2 guide up on my TL. Not yet though, so NO PM's bout it.
 
This is why I stopped buying guides and just use gamefaqs guides. It is 100% pure waste the rainforest weeps for all the trashed guides headed to the landfill.
 
A strange occurrence!

The Penny Arcade Vol. 1, which I was denied about a week ago at a penny, was back out on the floor. I bought it, but it rang up full price, $12.99

I actually don't mind paying full price, since Vol. 2 (got at a penny) was awesome. (The Ico comic in particular is golden.)

Anyone know why? Could they have restickered it? The employee scanned the sticker and not the actual UPC, but I guess that's standard. It also looked like he pressed something after he scanned it (one or two keys), but not enough keys to enter a price.

All other pennied guides were gone. Since when did my GS crack down on penny guides......:cry: :cry:
