Rei no Otaku gets the hat trick with General Gaming Thread #9!
I kinda hate hearing how good ME2 is b/c I still haven't finished ME1.

But ME and the Gears of War series have taught me this: wait for the PH version, as it'll have all the DLC content I can't be bothered to actually pay for.
But if you buy a new copy you're going to be getting the DLC anyways...

You should really get on finishing ME1, man.

I know, I know, I know.

Everytime I get in an elevator, though, I get really irritated with the faux-loading design.

It's on the queue, though.

The ME1 DLC isn't all that great anyway. The first one (Bringing Down the Sky) was ok, but only a 90 minute or so mission. I didn't bother with the second one as I'd already traded the game and it got pretty poor reviews (worse than the first).

On the plus side, no elevator load scenes in the second one! Load times are still pretty long, but only at the start of missions, going up and down the elevator on the ship, loading a save etc., and they just show a loading screen rather than a faux-loading design like the elevators.
Is it a terrible idea to keep a PS3 slim on a wood surface?

I recently moved mine onto this little wooden table, and the bottom feels extremely hot. I just elevated it with a couple dvd cases.
It's certainly not as good as a stone surface but it should be fine. Elevating it won't hurt if you're worried, though.

I don't know what it is about Batman AA but since I've finished the story mode I can't be arsed to go back and finish the Riddler stuff or do the challenges.

I was trying to squeeze out a few more achievements before I trade it in to Amazon but I'm struggling to motivate myself to do it.

If you go back for anything it should really be the Riddles! They were probably my favorite part of the game because of all of the amazing references. I ended up getting that and the Stealth achievements and I was done. The combat achievements were too much of a chore for me.
According to the ESRB Dead or Alive Paradise contains "Creepy voyeurism."
And in other news water officially confirmed as being wet.

Actually maybe that's a bit harsh, it's not like you're peeking at woman while they're getting changed or anything..................are you?? :whistle2:k
Haha.
Oh man, that will be a glorious NPD. I can't even guess which version will win.
Typically "PS Brand" games do pretty well on PS3 and the numbers get close (DMC4, SFIV), but that 360 userbase is hard to beat. (i think only Tekken has done so)

Ah well, I'm sure the 360 version plays just fine. I didn't hear complaints from the people who played it on the "FFXIII" bus that was/is going around.
FFXIII Bus? is that like the bang bus?

dumb jokes aside, what is that and where can I read impressions?

It was just random comments in different threads, I don't remember a concentrated discussion about it though.

This was the bus:

Oh, found this in that thread, 360 impressions:

EDIT: And negative user comment, Hmm.... but she doesn't sound too bright.
I went to the Sunnyvale one today and got to play the 360 version. I am so very disappointed to see the difference in textures and detail of the 360 version vs. the PS3. =( I know it's DVD vs. BD, but I didn't think it would be that noticeable. My boyfriend told me it's fine if I wanna stick with the 360 version, but he's going for the PS3 one now.

I do have to say I looked like an idiot trying to figure out the battle system. The girl warned us it was totally different from previous installments, but I didn't expect to just sit there and go "WTF...". I enjoyed it nonetheless. Still looking for to the game!

Eh, who knows then.

EDIT: IGN has impressions as well, they just said it was 'less crisp".

I don't think 1up can be trusted with their technical analysis of stuff. Especially since most of their talent left.

I've played about 6 hours of Demon's Souls. I've come to the conclusion that it is a good game. How much of a good game it is has yet to be determined.

OH SNAP SON I THINK I POPPED THIS BLOGS CHERRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wtf smh internet
Does ME2 have ally achievements like ME did?
Yes and no.

You get an achievement for recruiting someone to your party, and another for doing their loyalty mission. But no achievements for keeping characters in your party like in ME1, so you can get them all in one play through.

Alright, cool, that's what I meant. I was sitting here picking allies for a mission and I was like, "Shit, if they have those again I probs already screwed myself out of two for this playthrough."

Yep, no need to worry about it. Just be sure to talk to you team members on the ship in between missions to open up their ally missions.

It's a huge improvement as the recruitment and loyalty missions are mostly really good (probably the bst part of the game), and it's nice to not have so many achievement points tied to multiple playthroughs for those who care.

I, too, was annoyed by Jack.

Until her loyalty mission, that is. That made me love her, just as the missions for everyone else did.

Also, anyone else keep an eye on the RB thread and notice that Timbaland has a song being licensed by Harmonix now? I AM SO PUMPED FOR IT! But it was also announced with a few other dance beat songs (Cascada!), giving me the belief that Harmonix is going to release their own take on DJ Hero. If not, well, I'd still be super psyched to sing it in RB2.

I hated her less than Jacob. That guy always seemed to be kissing everyone's ass. And it annoyed me to no end...
Woo! Sequels to Red Faction, Saints Row and Darksiders announced.
Another Saints Row? Color me surprised, I thought the last one didn't sell that well.

I'm glad to hear another Darksiders is announced already, too. I hear nothing but good things about that game.

Red Faction I'm not surprised by at all, it was fantastic.

People aren't really talking about 2 things when it comes to the FFXIII compression on 360: the quality of the FMV's (which no one has seen on 360) and the audio quality (which is going to be superior on PS3, even if both were compressed).

I'll take the Saints Row sequel! The other two, meh.

Jacob I'm indifferent about, just as I tend to be indifferent about his character in every Bioware game. Whether it's Carth, Alistar, Kaiden, etc.

Those are a given though.

as long as it doesn't sound like FFXII (i.e. 32kbs mp3)

Damn, I was hoping some friends would come with me to PAX East so they could drive. I guess I'll have to worry about that myself now...
Of course, but it's journalistic malpractice to not ask about the unknown.
But uh, didn't SquareEnix already state that the videos would be 720p on 360 and 1080p on PS3?

Of course, that's only resolution (and something 90% of people won't notice since it's pure digital CG). How well it's encoded is another story, and I bet it's not great on 360 if other games and their marketplace trailers are anything to go by. (terrible color banding and macroblocking)

Square Enix has only said the 360 version would have compressed audio/video. Nothing more. They didn't say anything about resolutions, although we know that FMV's on PS3 are native 1080p while gameplay is native 720p.

Until the trailer released earlier this year, all previous trailers of FFXIII on the XBLM are actually of the PS3 version. XBLM also compresses the living hell out of their trailers.

Well some guy at work is giving me $40 for MW2 so I'm gonna go get mag tonight. I wonder if the socom bundle is worth it to get a headset..

That official headset is great. Sounds as good as quality USB headsets, not the usual BT stuff.

Need a fast answer!

Does the ME2 CE come wrapped in plastic?
I saw a copy at Best Buy but I suspect it's a return since there's no plastic on the outside. (game is in a hard shell though)
I'm just worried the codes are used.
If you have both systems, and want the game, why wouldn't it be?
I just want to make sure I get the best version :)
I honestly can say ME2 is alot more enjoyable if you play ME1 since you get to see how everything stems out.
If you like finding out meaningless details about the actions of your former choices that ultimately have no effect on the story or gameplay, then yeah, sure, I can buy that.

Hey, maybe SR3 will be what SR2 should've been! [/highly doubtful]

Though I am curious to see what they do with the Darksiders sequel, as that game was a pleasant surprise.
