Rei no Otaku gets the hat trick with General Gaming Thread #9!
I'd love to hear this argument.
What's the point? You won't change your mind, I won't change mine. So frankly I'm done with arguing. ME2 is an amazing game, and if you have problems with it then whatever. Not my loss. I am way too tired lately to be bothered.
The only reason all of them won't join your party is because Bioware wanted to make sure certain party members would be around in ME3.
Probably, but that's easily solved by making those certain characters impossible to kill. Vs. doing that and putting some more bland characters in their place in this game that can live or die.

But again, that's a VERY minor nitpick. ME2 is phenomenal and easily one of the best games I've every played.

L.A. Noire

Can't wait for more info!

No, doing something like that would have ruined the final mission.

LA Noire is an interesting concept, but the game and the devs behind have such a shaky past. I just don't know if it's going to come anywhere close to the hype/expectations. SCEE sank millions into the project and GTAIV still beat it to release and blew it away. I'm not sure if even Rockstar can take what Team Bondi did and make something successful out of it.
20's GTA?
Well, 40s, but I think Mafia II will be more like GTA since you're a 'bad guy' in that one.
People could die on the final mission?
I know I was shocked when I found out. I'm surprised Bioware never mentioned something like that could even happen.
No, doing something like that would have ruined the final mission.
I suppose. But most people will just keep doing it to
keep everyone alive anyway, both to get the achievement and have all the characters around for their imported save in future games to give the most options going forward.

Like I said, it's a nit pick, but in a series like this I'd like to see more central characters stick in the squad so you can have more character development, relationship progression etc. from game to game vs. just working with new people, starting new romances etc. from game to game.

ME2 comes in 2 discs? Thats interesting.

I''ve been playing the Bad Company 2 demo, and so far I'm quite intrigued. It was not on my radar before (never played the first), but now I might have to look into it a bit more.

Seems like a good marrying of classic Battlefield style objectives with the ever so popular multiplayer meta game.

I lost one person in my first time going through, and I'm keeping that for ME3 going forward. I like to live with my consequences.

I'll be doing the same with that game as well. It makes things far more interesting.

That's cool, and why I said most and not all. :D

But it still doesn't explain not having some main characters back in the party. People like you that want to live with the consequences could go into ME3 without them.

Just the challenge Bioware faces with wanting to tell a semi-uniform story with certain characters remaining throughout the saga, while also allowing freedom and consequences of players decisions to give different outcomes.

Oh, that Alienware netbook is available for order now?

Base model is sold out, but the one I wanted is still available for $999 less whatever corp discounts I can get.

Man, even with ugly case and lights (which i'm sure you can turn off), I think I'll get it. PC gaming* here I come!

Finished work reasonably early for once (worked from home today) and feeling much better as I'm pretty much over my cold (thankfully it didn't go to my chest and flare up my asthma for once.

So good day all around. Now to fix something to eat and put in another good session with ME2!
I thought the first Bioshock was ok. So I'm in no rush to get the 2nd game.
It's funny because Bioshock was my second favorite game of the year when it came out. Second only to Mass Effect. Now ME2 came out this year, and Bioshock 2 shortly after lol.
I'm the only one here getting Bioshock 2? Guess I'll be the guinea pig XD
If reviews and impressions are good I'll get it for sure as I loved the first one.

But either way I won't buy it right away, and will wait a bit for a sale or something. I'll be burnt out on games for a bit after finishing ME2, and need to get back to MW2.

Same here, those were my #1 and #2 of 2007 as well.

My current favorite games of this generation list would probably go:

ME2
ME1
Bioshock
Gears of War 1 & 2 (don't really like one more than the other)
Oblivion
Batman AA
Prince of Persia

Probably forgetting a couple I'd put on the list ,and leaving out a bunch that I though were pretty good, but not great.

I'm thinking about it... but I'm not overly excited for the "story" at this point. :whistle2:?

For me:

ME1
ME2
Bioshock
Batman
Dragon Age
Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2
Metal Gear Solid 4
Bayonetta
BlazBlue
Tales of Vesperia
I just saw a really shitty gamestop commercial for Bioshock 2 as well... so that didn't help at all.
Ugh, I hate that commercial. In fact I hate all of Gamestop's terrible commercials.

damn Bioware... why couldn't they let me atleast spend a little time with my love interest from ME? The only way to get that achievement in ME2 is to cheat on her And it doesn't help that I have no interest in any of the guys.

And for some reason I'm thinking about getting ME2 again...for the PC.

That new bioshock 2 CG trailer looks good.

I dunno, i'm just kinda meh on it.

It seems like it'd be a good game by itself but i hate that it's a sequel to bioshock because that doesn't need to exist. They could just as well have used the gameplay ideas of bioshock to make an original title, I think. I would have preferred that a lot.

I'm getting Bioshock 2. I actually burnt out on 1 before even coming close to finihsing it, but I'm hoping 2 does an ME2 and improves on things that I didn't like from the first game.

Nice to see Batman in your list. :applause:
Most of those are pretty solid games...

I'm getting the Bioshock 2 CE on Tuesday, think I'll be returning Dante's Inferno and keeping the figure if possible (if they even ship me one). Probably put the money from Dante's back onto my card or preorder Yakuza 3.

Hey does anyone have any advice on getting someone to try a certain game? I've got a couple people that I want to try a certain game and they always seem to pull back when you ask them to try it. I generally say, "Hey, you should play game x - it is awesome." Is there a better way to word it? I'm not to sure how to word those things. Because, generally if you tell someone to do something they will always resist.

Weird question, but curious.

Being able to word the "fun" in a game to someone who doesn't understand game terms and without relating it to another game is one of the biggest challenges to being a game writer.

I consistently have this problem selling friends on games, but I try to make my writing better at least. In person it's kinda tough.

Yea, definitely. It is an odd thing suggesting games to friends, although some people may be more open to it than others. But I generally have a problem getting friends into games (note they are gamers).

Like I've asked on multiple occasions for friends to try Uncharted 1 and 2. And I got a couple of them to play Uncharted 1, but I can't get them to try Uncharted 2. It's like they keep getting excuses why not to try it. Like I'm asking them to try gay sex...

And I suggested to my one friend to try ME1 & 2 and he said he would. But, I doubt he will go to the next steps to try it and I feel like if I throw ME1 at him he would feel pressured... or is that good? *shrug* It doesn't really matter, I just want somebody to talk to about these games and like Uncharted 2 I know they would have a ton of fun.

I usually invite friends over and make them watch me play the game with a character that I've already gotten powered up or whatever, that's how I got most of my friends to play Bioshock and Ratchet and Clank.

Finished my first ME2 playthrough tonight.

Went very well.

Saved the crew and and kept everyone alive and go the no one left behind achievement on the first try without looking anything up. Blow up the reaper base and didn't let the Illusive Man get the tech. Choose Miranda for the romance, but after the ending talked to Tali then broke it off with Miranda and got Tali's Romance scene too. Talking to Tali afterwards...it seems like you can go back and forth between the two after beating the game. Also liked that you get back on the Normady--and thus able to do future DLC on this save--after beating it. Unlike the first game where eyou had to load an old save or start a new game to play the DLC. Final play time after that was 42 hours 50 minutes.

I was only at level 28 after beating the game--kind of sucked as I did all the loyalty quests, all the N7 quests etc. Oh well, started up a new game with that character and will play until level 30 then stop, and maybe start up a game with a new character as a renegade.

Fantastic game overall. Definitley one of my all time favorites.

It will take you all of 5 minutes to get to 30 from level 28. I was something like level 26 and I had level 30 by the time I was recruiting my first party member (Mordin). That 25% bonus experience will have you crusin'.

Yeah, I just did the first couple parts of a second playthrough and got to level 30. Tried on Insanity, got blown away and decided to scrap that option. Went back to normal and got to level 30 very quickly.

Will scrap that play through and eventually get around to making a new character and doing a renegade playthrough with a female shepard.

Bah, you guys are all so fast beating the game... I like to take my time. But, tomorrow is my day I will finish it. And I aint reading your damn posts!

Tomorrow I can talk about it like a douche and spoil shit for others. YAY! Spoil it all you want for me I aint reading your responses DAMMIT!

:D

Some of us haven't even started ME2, you know.

Finished up the collecting in Batman AA last night, it was a chore but I've seen worse. I did like the character bios and the patient interviews.

I'll continue with Ghostbusters this weekend I think. We're due 12-18 inches of snow between tonight and tomorrow night so I doubt I'll be going anywhere.

Edit - Typical, no posts for 8 hours then 2 come along at once.:D

I'm trying to tie up a few loose ends to get my 'dorable platinum trophy for FFXIII.

-BUT-

I inadvertently did something that changed the creatures in the overworld I should be farming right now for gil and items to upgrade my weapons, and now they're the evolved and super-dang-tuff versions of them.

I think I'll give it one last go tonight, and if I don't feel like I make much progress, I'ma ditch it and go with White Knight Chronicles.
