Rei no Otaku gets the hat trick with General Gaming Thread #9!

I think your PS3 committed sepukku to save you from playing WKC, myke.

Videos make that game look like a peice of shit, anyway. I won't ever play it to really know.

Mag is so good. I hope they do a lot of updates. Even SOCOM confrontation isn't too bad. Worth the $10 extra vs buying the headset alone.
Wow, Dantes Inferno got a 10/10 from Gamespot. I was expecting it to be good, but damn.
Wow. That seems off. I'd probably guess it'd be about an 8/10, based off the demo, if the final version were a bit more polished and varied.
Whenever you put a HDD into a new PS3, it will ask you to format it. So, you'll need to extract the data somehow.
How the fuck am I supposed to do that? I got save games on there, man.

Decided to spend the last hour and a half dissecting and cleaning the PS3 to see if that would help it work. No dice, but I was able to retreive my WKC disc.

This seems like an ideal time to finish Mass Effect anyway.
I'm still trying to figure out how you do less missions being a renegade.
I don't know. I have not finished Mass Effect 2 in Renegade. But yes, in Mass Effect 1 your missions were reduced due to generally blowing off characters or killing them. I've had significantly more connections in ME2 with my paragon than my renegade, due to most characters being dead.

Maybe you played it differently *shrug*

I've played through both in both games. There's the same number of missions. There's only one exception and that's a quest you can get from a character in ME2 if you didn't kill her in ME1, and even then you have to go out of your way to do this so it won't affect most people.

The different number of missions thing is in your head. If you played less it's because you missed some.

Which character (her) are you talking about? I'm not sure I recall anyone being dead in my ME import that denied me getting a specific mission...

And I'm in agreement with you, from what I've seen...

Gianna Parasini. The girl who asks you to find the evidence on that salarian on Noveria. You can have her and the salarian kill each other, if you do that she doesn't show up on Illium with that minor quest

You will buy and enjoy and love this game because it is a horrible piece of generic shit. One of the worst demos in recent memory.

I've heard the final version looks more polished. And I have listened to a few Podcasts talk about it and it seems like it the game is a pretty decent God of War clone. But with that said... Why the hell would they pick a release date so close to God of War 3?

I think they are putting a lot of hope that having a Super Bowl ad 2 days before release will help them. I can see some really smart PR guy thinking that the MW2 ad during the NBA playoffs had a lot to do with its success.

Dunno. I haven't picked up a new console yet.

EDIT: Um, what? I *can't* use my old HDD as-is if I get a new console? I can't only access that data if I get my old console repaired? What the fucking fuck? This is fucking ridiculous.

Part of me wants to hurl it against the wall until I can peel it apart for the disc inside like it's a shitty broken piñata.
The same thing that happened to your PS3 happened to my roomates non-BC 80gb (Turn on and the red light just flashes then turns off) . We found some instructions online about resoddering some parts of board to fix it, but that didn't work. He ended up buying a slim and selling the dead PS3 on ebay.

If you have a laptop that uses SATA 2.5 HDD's, you could try to put it in there and back that stuff up to an external drive.

Nope. The system will say it needs to be formatted first.

There are ways to extract data from a HDD that isn't in a computer/PS3.

Wrong.

note to self. back up ps3 data regularly from now on.

if i were in your shoes, myke, i'd send it in for repair, pay the $180, get it back, buy a slim, move my shit, then sell the repaired unit for $180+fees+shipping on eBay. if you could get 180+, you're even putting a dent in the cost of moving to a slim... in the end, you'd have all your data and would probably have paid less than 300 for the slim.

I'ma buy a heat gun and some compound to try to fix it myself first - and if that works, do precisely what you're suggesting (backup that HDD and move on with life).

If that doesn't work, then I'll fork over the money to Sony, I think. Or just sell it as a busted-ass 60GB, since I could get $80-100 for that.

If I can get my XBL working long enough to do it, I'm going to using the rest of my points to get Dead Space and Serious Sam. Problem is I'll never play them, WoW has a death grip on my gaming time.

If you want to use your points on those things, whynot purchase them on the interwebs first and then just turn your 360 on...?

I haven't been able to figure out how to buy games on demand with points on PC. On 360 you just hit Y on the payment page, but I haven't found the option on xbox.com.

The store just refuses to load for me on the 360. I have no clue why.

I'll only buy it if it's on PC so I can play it on my lappy

Man, I was so wrong about Dante's. When I saw the private screening at E3 - it looked pretty awesome and I was expecting it to hit like Dead Space did. People bashed Dead Space for being a copy of RE4, but it did it so well that it was just amazing. So, I was expecting the same thing from Dante's. That's too bad...

At least we got GoW3!
Just played the Heavy Rain demo. Loved it.
Did it make you think... hmmm, Mass Effect 3... =P

I'm still going to play Dante's....just not for $60. The main thing reviewers seem to be complaining about is the end of the game.

Well they said the final 1/3rd of the game was "lousy"....so it is the end of the game but a pretty big chunk of the game.

That leaves 2/3rds of above lousy gameplay!

Screw Dante's Inferno. Give me Oliver Twist! People didn't bash Dead Space for being like RE4. It was bashed because it got really repetitive at the end. Also, RE5 is Dead Space's bitch.

RE5 is almost everyone's bitch. That game was horribly disappointing.

True. It's still probably worth a play after a few price drops for fans of the genre for sure.

I seldom like action games ,and try to only play great games that are good from start to finish so the mild interest I had in it is gone.

I downloaded it last night so I'll give it a go. I'll prob then have better jugment on it.

Yea, they did when it was coming out... I guess you did not have internet then. And RE5, sucks ass...

about the only way Dead Space was like RE4 is that there are guns and it's in 3rd person. Dead Space = boring and repetitive after a few hours. Great graphics but horrible pacing. RE4 is still fun as hell...probably the best pacing in a game ever, not to mention amazing unlockables.

so yeah, Dante's : GOW :: Dead Space : RE4. shallow imitators, EA's way of cashing in.

oh wow - just wanted to pop in darksiders for a bit and ended up playing it for like 3 hours. Huge ripoff, but what a game. They really did a great job.

Dead Space was great, though. Not enough for me to get all caught up in the at-release marketing blitz (dvd film, a novel as well if memory serves) - but as a single player experience I really dug it.

That was Visceral, too, right? Hmm. I wonder if devs are in charge of their own marketing, as the marketing for Dead Space was well done in establishing its legitimacy as a franchise (before it was legit), and in Dante's Inferno's case, has been exceptional.
