The RE5 DLC isn't as bad as SFIV's, but I still don't like the trend. I also refuse to buy any of it. I'm glad people are speaking up and the higher ups know we don't like it.
But the VP said it; "if people don't see the value in the secondary offering that the choice is simple, don't purchase it."
And I respond with an "okay". Now I'm really glad I rented it.
Quick question, my podcast co-host is complaining that he can't read the text on this game, and I was wondering if anyone else is playing the game with a standard def TV and it's another Dead Rising situation?
Given there's not been a lot of stories about it, I'm thinking it's because he's playing on a 13-inch TV but I just wanted to research a bit further.

I'm playing on a 27" SDTV and I've had zero problems. If he's having an issue, it likely just has to do with the (small) size of his TV.
Having played both Dead Rising and the pre-patch Banjo/Kazooie N&B on the same TV, I can tell you that RE5 is NOTHING like those.
GOD DAMN, I have to start the game over for the third time and I DONT KNOW WHY. I played it earlier and was 2 chapters from the end. Was it cause I turned off the system when it said saving at the top, WTF I am so damn pissed

Um... probably yea. Don't you listen to any of the warnings on any games or consoles when it says don't shut it off when it's saving to the hard drive (or memory unit)????

From what I've heard from friends who work on games: Some games use "master save files" that hold all the information on your progress. They don't have "unique" check points, but rather they keep track of your progress in a percentage way. You can go back to older chapters simply because they're "unlocked" in your master save file.
With Resident Evil 5, you don't go back to unique checkpoints where it recorded all the ammo and weapons you had, but rather, you have one inventory that you keep throughout all games and your master save file holds the data for both that, and all the levels you've beaten.
So when it's saving, and you turn off your Xbox 360, you corrupt the save file that holds all the chapters you unlocked, all your inventory. Remember, Resident Evil 5 isn't saving ONE checkpoint, but rather, it's saving the chapter you just unlocked to your "master save file".
And you basically shut it off while it was writing data to that file, which in most circumstances means "file gone". In games like Gears of War, with auto saving check points, you can turn off your system and you're simply knocked back to your last check point. RE5 lets you overlap your inventory to play old chapters again. So yeah, you fouled up. Let it save before you turn it off dude.
I finally started playing this. One thing i have to say is, the graphics are drop dead gorgeous. They are really something. Love the camera work, and literally, you could make a full length motion picture using the in game engine and it would look absolutely amazing.
That said, im at level 3-1 now, and im not very motivated to keep playing. The game is kinda boring and im totally used to the controls so its not that at all. There isnt much story wise that makes me want to keep playing to see what happens. Im hoping it will get better, but i dont know. I will finish it soon tho, i want it out of my backlog asap since its not very long in the first place.
Why would you turn it off when it says saving in the first place? And especially after you've already run into this problem. Just about every game you could ever play states not to turn off the game or system while saving is occurring, I know this isn't news to you.
the final cutscene was like the shortest in the game.
also, beat this game without a co-op partner and it wasnt too bad. there was only that one part with a bunch of lickers and you had to push that dumpster. that sucked a little bit.
also, and maybe its just me, but did anyone else get a strong Metal Gear Solid vibe from some parts of this? Maybe it was the cutscenes....or oening all those lockers on the tanker....
Still, unless the save files are absolutely massive (only 140KB according to the back of the box) and there isn't much free space on the hard drive any program should save to a separate file, verify the new save wasn't corrupted, and then overwrite the old one. Yeah they saved some disk space and a little time but what happens if there's a power failure or something out of the user's control Why screw them over like that?
I'm pissed! I beat the game with my friend but the game is locking me at 6-3, yet I can view the end cinemas and all the damn files! What's wrong with Capcom? He got the achievement for beating the last stage but I didn't!

You actually missed out on 3 or more achievements and can't start a mercenaries game or use unlimited ammo. I had to go back and do a level over myself because I got disconnected from my partner's game and didn't get credit for a level when I rejoined.
Just finished the game. Beat it in a single sitting. I have to say that the 2nd half destroys the first half. I almost didn't even finish the game because the first half was so boring. But 2nd half really brings the meat to the table and makes you excited to see what happens next. Overall B+ effort. I already deleted it off of my 120 gig drive tho, i doubt ill ever want to come back to this game anytime soon.
I thought that this game was absolutely phenomenal. As many people have stated earlier, the graphics are excellent and the load times are surprisingly low. I already beat the game and plan on getting every achievement that this game has to offer. I highly recommend people to play with others on Live because Sheva can be stupid at times (uses health sprays when it's not appropriate).
The only problem with this game is that the combat system needs to be changed since Capcom is starting to focus more on action. Also, I've played all of the other Resident Evil games and this game was NOT scary at all. Perhaps Resident Evil 6 will include more scary scenarios and allow people to attack and move at the same time (there's nothing more annoying than not being able to hit an opponent with your knife when he's an inch away. You have to put away the knife, move forward, and then pull it out again).

"The Mercenaries" mode is a fantastic reason to come back to this game.
That and weapon unlocks, and difficulty settings...
Anywho, Let me chime in, I loved this game. "Scary" moments in RE (heck, in any "horror" games) always felt insanely cheap anywho. "Oooo, look, the polygonal window is shaking along the pre-rendered background! Oh no, time to be scared..." bah. The sense of fear that you get, from shotting your last bullet into an executioner Majini, as he readies his hammer, prepared to crush you into the ground, in the middle of a crowd of enemies... that's a real scare.
RE5 was a game that felt fresh and different in almost each one of it's stages. It rarely reused situations, which means each stage is worth playing through again, to explore that type of gameplay. It was fantastically designed in this respect.
The control scheme emphasizes ACCURACY and calculated, STRATEGIC gunplay. Something I can say almost no other "shooter" does as well. I'd love it if they designed a Gunsmith Cats style game with Type D style controls.
(For those who don't know, GSC's stars a bounty hunting girl (Rally Vincent) who pulls off such precise shooting such as shooting off thumbs, or shooting off part of an ear, in order to incapacitate her opponents in as non-life-threatening a way as possible.)
I'd love it if all games where this well polished. Even in cinematics, the costumes and body armor options stay consistent. Even when your characters are seen on weskers cameras. THIS game emphasizes quality over quantity, and I wish more games where brave enough to do this so well. (Though the quantity is still very high.) I enjoyed this SO much more than Fable 2 or Mercenaries 2...

They reused a lot of stuff from part 4
including the guys with the gatling guns, in fact they wear the same outfits! Plus there's the El Gigante you had to fight again, and of course the chainsaw wielding maniac. In fact the laboratory toward the end, when you're on that rotating lift, didn't they rip that from the crappy Degeneration movie?
I'm not knocking you, just saying my friend and I noticed a lot of overused stuff from previous games, sometimes blatantly.
I just realized that I have beaten this game a total of 5 times already. Talk about replay value, and I am currently trying to beat professional, and going for 6 times. Not only that, but I still have Mercenaries to master, and the versus mode DLC, and friends who want to play co-op.
I know the game is shorter then Resident Evil 4, and the DLC is going to cost money, but so far I feel like I got my $60 worth, so I don't mind those two negative points. Normally I would hate companies that nickel and dime their consumer, but I have to hand it to Capcom for putting out solid releases every year with this one being no exception. They deserve my $5 extra bucks for making their $60 game more than worth it, unlike other releases where I would only play once and never touch again.
However, I wish the game was longer because the whole time I just did not want the fun to end. Anyways bring on Resident Evil 6.
I have been playing with the retro horror filter and it is kinda fun to play the entire game in B&W. Either way good game and to me at least worth the 60 dollars. I have already sunk about 16 hours into it. And the fully leveled up hydra is a beast.

I'm all about the Hand cannon all upgraded. Does about 5,000 Damage.
With infinite ammo on. It's a breeze through Veteran. If only it was that easy on professional.

Yeah, I know, but I never care about sequels using elements from old games/movies. The ways they did such things here did not bother me. Generally speaking, really, I see it more as "Fan service" really.
Sure, El Gigante and Ndesu where pretty much the same, but, they only used him once in this whole game. It makes sense that this progressing virus would create similar monstrosities all over the world, when used in such a way. It's not like Umbrella would say "Well, this failed in Europe, guess it won't work in Africa, either!"
I never felt like any of it was over-used, since most elements didn't appear more times than 2 in THIS game. There where only 2 QTE-Running events if I remember right, and you DID have to fight the Urboros-thing multiple times, but each time had a different method to victory. They never reused the on-rails shooter segment, or riding around on a player-controlled motorboat to get to different areas. Even the way Josh hacked into the computers for elevator controls, you know most games woulda forced a "protect the NPC!" segment in 2 or 3 more stages afterwards. Even "Reach a location before time runs out!" wasn't used more than once.
I guess it just really makes me see where the years of work for this game went. It has that Metal Gear Solid level of refinement and detail work.
And I won't even get started with how impressed I am with the mercenaries stages! They're a cut above your average "place a few planks, and call it redesigned!" map mods that you get with games. Heck, the final Merc stage isn't even a redesign (ok, it uses volcanic elements from one stage), but a fresh stage to the game, with a unique mod of one of the games enemies. (Though maybe it appears in Pro difficulty?)

I loved the first half of the game. If I wasn't playing co-op with someone I would have just quit when I encountered the first gun wielding Majini.
People keep referencing the 2nd half of the game as proof that the control scheme is broken. Instead I say that the control scheme is proof that the 2nd half of the game was poorly done and didn't fit with the style of game.
Although I do agree with the idea of moving while aiming to a point. Now that the left-stick is free during aiming (zooming could be done some other way) it only makes sense to allow minimal movement for those situations when an enemy or crate is just beyond your reach. But I think to keep the same feel to the gameplay (which I still enjoy) the movement speed while aiming should be just slower than a Majini's walking speed.
I beat 2-2 last night on my "one chapter a night" pace. I really like it so far. It's not RE4 but I'm still having a lot of fun with it.
Some questions:
1. In chapter 2-1 (I think) they introduce the blue medallion concept - are they all over the place? Are they really hard to find? I haven't found a single one other then the first one in the room with the Hummers.
2. Can the treasures be combined like in RE4? It doesn't seem like it - I have a lot of little gemstones and money isn't that plentiful so I'm thinking of just selling things as I get them unless there is a reason not to.
3. I'm playing on 'Normal' - should I be concerned about ammo? I'm gunning though so far without a care in the world and I always have 30-40 bullets for my handgun.

1. a lot of them are really hard to find. i only got 6 on my first playthrough.
2. nope. sell sell sell.
3. they seemed to throw a lot of ammo around, there were a couple times when sheva was forced to use the stun rod, but for the most part it wasnt a huge issue.

1. They can be found all over the place starting in Chapter 1-2 I believe. I only ever found five throughout the whole game. I'm going to go back and look for them on my second playthrough.
2. Nope can't be combined, just sell as you get them.
3. My friend and I didn't worry about ammo for the most part, there were maybe three or four times where we did start running low on ammo but I wouldn't worry too much. Enemies will generally drop ammo for what gun you're using.
I support this message. Utterly ridiculous. ;\
Honestly, from the final confrontations with Wesker until the end, this is where the game failed for me the most. Once you're on the plane, he doesn't even seem like Wesker anymore. It all felt hideously out of place or something.

Well, let's be fair. He was ODing and pissed off. I don't think I'd be acting quite like myself either. But yeah, while the volcano seemed entirely out of place, it was only there to serve as a backdrop for a dramatic finale. Unrealistic? Yeah, but I was able to just ignore the inconsistency for the sake of awesome.

I'm sorry but there is nothing dramatic about just happening to land inside a volano, on the lava, and the plane stays completely in-tact? hahaha
I do love the fact that I get to push a boulder the size of a house by myself but hooking, punching and pushing it though!
Seriously pissing about how realistic something is in a RESIDENT EVIL game.
think about that for a second, okay?
Yeah I though about it and that statement is dumb.
I don't think anyone's knocking the game for it's "realism" or lack there-of but some things are taken way and far beyond the realm of "imaginary" to just plain retarded.
From what I can remember most of the old RE games had some sense of realism involved..
Agree, but at least the 2 player co-op makes this game just so much better than what RE had to offer in the past. I could not stand the AI after playing a whole level with it. It just was too slow to react to what my partner was used to doing (watching my back etc). Sometimes the AI would just wonder off in front and get injured and I had no health and we would die.....
Anyway, I just returned RE5 to Blockbuster today. I was able to find all 30 Emblems, and I found all the treasures but 6, and I was able to unlock the gatling gun, the bow and arrow for Sheva, and I got unlimited ammo for a shot gun, the magnum, a machine gun, and a rifle. I also killed an enemy with eggs and was surprised that there was an achievement for that....LOL. But don't eat a rotten egg, man that sucks how much life it takes away.
Overall the best 8 bucks I spent for a 5 day rental. I would probably never go back to play RE5, we played all the way through veteran and unlocked Professional mode but we did it the easy way....unlimited ammo on veteran is a breeze.
Again as most would agree RE5 is a fun good game, but no where near how great RE4 was!
I never liked RE4 too much, but RE5 was a great game. RE4, to me personally, was super boring and overly difficult. RE5 was much more enjoyable. I think a lot of people put RE4 on some pedestal, and i dont mean you personally, but they tend to be nintendo fanboys.
When you're on a nintendo platform for most of the generations, games like RE4 seem insanely superior to anything in existence due to lack of any good games on the platforms as it is. When you've owned every system every gen, RE4 really isnt THAT special. IMO at least.

Yeah, but RE4, among others, broke that trend. When a giant statue of Salazar comes running at you, or there's a completely worthless and inexplicable furnace room in the castle, or Leon somersaults through laser traps...
I'm not saying that the RE5 segment necessarily falls into the same category of realism or not, but it's become a staple/trend of RE to sacrifice realistic scenarios for attractive, entertaining setpieces.

RE4 completely changed the way 3rd person shooters are made and invented the over the shoulder camera that a ton of games use nowadays.
RE4 deserves its place as one of the greatest games of all time.
Also I hate Nintendo so take that for what you will. And the game sold the best on the PS2 IIRC, nintendofanboyism has nothing to do with why RE4 is one of the best games of all time.
