Resident Evil 5 -Gen. Discussion - Lost In Nightmares & Desperate Esacpe DLC Out Now!
Any of the crossbow guys in 2-1 should be easy for the knife bit. The ones around the dock would probably be best since they're far enough away that you'll have time to react to the bolt. Still, you can do it on a closer one if you're willing to have to anticipate the guy firing.

3-2 is best for the headshot. Jump down to the area in the middle and stand on one side of the large gap they all have to jump across to get to you. Aim up with a shotgun (the Ithaca is probably best if you have it upgraded) and fire as they're leaping across. Alternatively, on the same level you can wait at the edge of the platform you start on and wait for them to leap up the wall but you'll have to react a bit quicker. You can also try sniping them as they're jumping along the path to get at you but that's significantly harder.
I completed the jumping headshot achievement on 1-1. Stayed in the house and aim out the window using the Gatling gun when I was attempting to get the Gatling gun achievement.

Also, I've saved up a few eggs in anticipation of completing the egg duplication trick, but I'm finding that playing other difficulties and clearing the other achievements is giving me plenty of cash. I've already maxed out the starting firearms and the "best" firearms from upgrading the starting ones. As I complete Veteran (and beyond that Proffesional) I should get enough more than enough cash.

so I checked in the records section of the game, and saw that I have logged
64 hours into this game
. I can't believe I am not sick of the game yet.

For the head shot what jumping achievement, I just did it on 1-1 during boss fight (the section at the end). I used the Ithaca M37 since it has the critical (headshot) perk. I ran myself to the top of the bus, and just aimed up and shoot whenever they jump. Took about 2-3 runs to get the achievement.

As for deflecting arrows, I did it on 2-1 when you walk out of the container maze (right before the truck). I cleared out the dogs and Majini (just lured them in) and started swinging the knife. After a couple of tries, you'll get the timing of it.

I'm almost done with Professional. Only 5-3, 6-1, and 6-3 left.

Only two achievements left. Beat it on professional and "The Works" (can't seem to get timing down on that one with partner). I'm still iffy on the DLC though.

It never ceases to amaze me when I join games on Amateur and whip out my grenade launcher with nitrogen rounds and hear 'OMG WTF' through the headset.

It only does if you use the special weapons. I joined a game with infinite ammo off, but I still had infinite ammo with Shiva's bow.

I need "the works" as well will be happy to hop online and co-op wit ya.

We'll see. My partner needs it too and I don't know how much she'd approve if I got this one without her...Yeah~~~ Otherwise I'd be down.

"The Works" was actually pretty easy for me to get in single-player, if anyone still needs it. The level where you need to traverse the storage containers with the trip wires all around. When you get to the part with the Big Man, just get him to follow you back towards the containers, so that you're now in a confined area. Throw a flash bang at this feet, and there you go. You should be able to pull off the three-hit combo. It's also a good idea to take all the weapons away from your AI partner.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I now have all the achievements except finishing on Veteran, finishing on Professional, all dressed up, collecting all the treasures and collecting all of the action figures. I'm going to finish Veteran next - I think that will get me a couple of those.

As for "The Works" I got that in single player really early on without even realizing it. I was running down the list of achievements and I was shocked to see I already had it.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try this later today.

For the few that did download the Versus DLC, have you had any luck getting the 40x combo in Team Slayers? The 20x for Slayers was pretty easy, but I have yet to get over 25x with a partner. There just never seem to be enough enemies around to keep it going. Plus, you obviously have the other team hunting you down from time-to-time.

On that note, I really wish they would have made Team Slayers with an option to not attack the other team. My favorite TS games so far are the ones where we really don't attack each other and just try to rack up kills and combos.

And lastly, how stupid was it for them to make it where you don't even have to earn the better characters? You can just use the bonus points you racked up from the main game and Mercs. How stupid. Everyone (myself included, because I'm not stupid) just plays as STARS Wesker.

you know what this game needs? 4 Player "Horde" mode. That would be awesome. They already stole the hammer of dawn for this game, no shame in adding a gears of war mode to the game. Maybe change the "horde" mode to Majini mode.
Alas, I just cant get the Drive By achievement.
I tried for like half an hour the other day, just reloading the mission, but no dice. I feel your pain.

Check out YouTube for "Drive By." I'm not 100% sure, but I think there is a particular truck that you need to do it on. I was trying on the first couple and wasn't able to do it. Then, there is a truck later on that I got it on my first try.

Any real advice for
the fight with Wesker/Jill on Professional? This is just... ugh, is it even possible playing with the AI? What always happens for me is getting overwhelmed, needing to keep smashing B so Sheva goes to heal me 3-4 times in a row, or vice versa. Eventually one of Jill's bullets or one of Wesker's fists lands before healing and someone dies.

Rocket Launcher on W and Flash Grenades or rounds on J.

The weapon used in 6-2 on the bridge.
The weapon used in 6-2 on the bridge.
Oh yeah huh. I never got to use those weapons (like the flamethrower as well) since my partner always ended up with them. Thanks for the clarification though, it was bugging me.

Does anyone know how long the versus achievements take? I already got rid of my copy of the game and am debating if I should rent it or buy it for the DLC.

The Versus achievements are all pretty easy, but some of them will take awhile to get. You have to win 30 games in each of the four modes for four of the achievements. So, that's 120 games right there...if you won every, single game you ever play. The one achievement I really don't see myself getting is the 40x combo chain in Team Slayer, as I mentioned earlier. Maybe, maybe if I got a really good teammate, and we went into a game where we all agreed not to shoot the other team, then maybe it would be easy. But even then, I've been in games where the teams haven't attacked each other, and the closest I got was like 25x.

Yeah it sounds like everything is fairly easy except for the 40x combo. I might hold out for a bit until I find out there is a really simple way to boost/gain that achievement.

Well, if I can get three people together, I'm sure this would be easy to boost. The other team simply doesn't play and just lets the other two split the field. Then, play another game and let the two who sat out get their achievement. Now, it's just a matter of finding three CAGs.

Could try rigging it and putting everyone on the same team. Not sure if the game will let you start like that, though. Maybe 3v1?

Nah, that was the solution that first popped into my head, but the game won't allow it, unfortunately. Definitely think it would work, though, with four guys who are all on the same page. There are certainly enough enemies. The only issue is the other team taking kills and attacking you.

For the 40X Achievement, remember that the other players count as kills that add towards to combo. It's easily the hardest of the Versus Achievements to get. The others just take some time.

Just aquired all 'S' rankings on Normal and working on Veteran.

For those complaining about Sheva, on during my second run through I've handed her an unlimited ammo Magnum and suddenly she is a machine. It has become a race to find and defeat Manji before she can.

This game is annoying solo on pro because Sheva is a retard. I also like how the cutscenes are still "live" so when they end you went from no enemies to dead.

I dont know about the cutscenes (I skip them all), but I gave Sheva an unlimited magnum and she is a absolute beast on Pro.

Now she still exhibits a few bad decisions, namely staying on the wrong side if I take cover against a wall, but I was able to complete 5-3 last night without too many problems.
I can't seem to get a handle on her. Constantly she makes poor decisions on me.
What does she do? How far along are you?

If it's your second playthrough, always skip the cutscenes with the back button. It'll skip so you can move and actually react to enemies coming on screen vs. standing still and waiting for the cutscene to end.

Here's what I did to basically make Professional a breeze:

1) If you're going for all the achievements, you need to get an "S" rank on all levels. It's definitely possible to do this on higher difficulties (and I do believe you can mix and match difficulties), but why bother? You'll end up pulling your hair out. Do it on Amateur. If you have an infinite ammo weapon for yourself, you'll be done before you know it. While you're at it, you can run through the thing quickly and unlock the infinite rocket launcher, which makes bosses a breeze on Professional.

2) By now, you should have enough exchange points and money to make sure you have, at the very least, an infinite Hydra for yourself and an infinite magnum for Shiva. Personally, I prefer giving her the L. Hawk, because there is little kickback, so she can get more shots off. The infinite Hydra is a sick weapon. You can take down groups of enemies with ease and even beat bosses rather quickly. It even has a little bit of range, so you can take down enemies that are at a distant. To make life even easier, I also had an infinite ammo PSG-1. This really helps for the later levels that have machine gun wielding enemies.

Now, if you need more money, go play 5-2 on Amateur and reach the part where you need to go down the darkish hallways with a bunch of lickers. Kill them all, and you'll get 5 Lion Hearts, which are worth 2500 each. They also sometimes drop gold and (more importantly) rotten eggs. DO NOT GO THROUGH THE NEXT DOOR. Quit and save your progress. You'll have everything you picked up, but you'll be able to continue right at the start of the hallway. Great way to farm money.

Now, of course, if you need exchange points, there are a ton of ways to get those. My favorite, though, just because it's fun, is to play Mercs with STARS Wesker on a level you're familiar with. You should be getting consistent SS rankings, good for 5000 exchange points. Always remember that when playing Mercs, you should automatically discard your handgun. Yeah, Wesker's is pretty powerful, but it's still crap compared to the Hydra. Once you discard the handgun, you will only find ammo drops for the shotgun and magnum! Now, just run around and blast everything in site with the Hyrdra! Of course, don't forget to "reload" in the item screen, because the Hydra's reload animation is extremely, extremely slow.

Hmmm... I only played Mercs once so far. I didn't know that it was a good way to earn exchange points. I've been trying to get 1,500 or so per try on the jeep level (2-3?) which only takes about 10 minutes or less. It's a huge pain.

Once you fully upgrade the magnum or get infinite rockets 6-2 is by far the easiest level to get exchange points in. If I remember correctly I finished it in as little as 3 minutes without any trouble.

Contrary to other recommendations I used the magnum myself and gave Sheva the shotgun. The problem with the shotgun is it makes your accuracy percentage go to hell. It is easier to use the shotgun, but you'll get more exchange points using the magnum yourself.

Yup, 6-2 is by far the fastest way to farm exchange points. If you run through quickly with an Inf. RL, you can clear the level in under three minutes on professional, netting 2,500 points.

Go through the QTE, run through the ship, but shoot the tentacles and dodge the ones from the ceiling. When you go up the stairs, take a hard left, shoot the tentacle, and shoot the guy around the corner, who will drop the keycard. Run to the boss fight. Shoot one rocket at the far bulb, one at the close bulb, and twice at the black blobs ( you need to get at least 11 enemies I think so that your scores average out to an S, assuming you get an S on the other categories). Cut scene will trigger, once rocket at the center thing and it's over.

Well, you're right about accuracy, but I figure if someone is doing a professional play through, they aren't worried about accuracy and their rating. They just want the easiest way to beat the game. There are times where you definitely want the spread of the Hydra, in order to keep multiply enemies away. Plus, it gives you a little leeway if you miss your target, hopefully at least staggering them. If you miss with the magnum, you'll give your enemies a clear shot at you. And on professional, that can be a bitch, with one hit kills and the fact that Sheva often won't come to your aid, even if she is right next to you.

EDIT: Of course, that's just my opinion, as far as the accuracy goes. If you're trying to get the best rank possible on professional, I would definitely use the L. Hawk, due to the decreased kickback. Though, I did find if you get use to actually aiming the Hydra, you can still get a high accuracy. The thing is, you need to get the dot on an enemy. You get into the mindset, though, that you don't have to aim precisely, so that is why your accuracy goes down. I have definitely done levels where I got 70%+ accuracy with the Hydra, so it's possible.
