Ha, man, you gotta love Bradshaw as the Evil Republican. His crazy, ranting anti-Cena (which is a polite way to put it, really) promo was hilarious this week on Smackdown. That was almost as good as that promo he made back in the Eddie feud days... the week he got fired because of the whole Nazi salute thing, and he ripped on Sean Penn and the "liberal media." I have to give that credit for doing such great promo work, even if his title reign is probably way too long as this point.
I suppose it almost gives them enough leverage to do the Evil Liberal Arabs on RAW, I suppose. Admittedly, Hassan's pretty decent on the stick as well, even if he is using the tired, cheap, anti-American gimmick.
Man, I forgot about that; truth be told, that was said long before he developed such a persona for his in-ring character. It seems to me that the Bradshaw you described is 100% him. He's married to a Fox News commentator (I dare not call *any* of them anchors due to their blatant lack of objectivity) for cryin' out loud. It's a SHOOT!!! (Okay, a bit eggagerated, but true nontheless).
I usually accept that wrestling fans are ignorant hicks; don't take offense, if you've been to a wrestling show, you know the general demographic I'm talking about. Don't get defensive if you know it's true (statistically, it *is* true, actually). For further consideration, think of Benoit vs. Hassan from Monday this week; an Arab (not really) by way of Detroit and a Canadian; the crowd chants "USA! USA!" to show their hatred for the guy from Detroit, and support for the Canadian. In many cases (La Resistance being one refuting example, "USA!" means "GO WHITE PERSON!"
With that in mind, I thought the JBL character, when he feuded with Eddie Guerrero, was going to be the biggest babyface in all of WWE history. How could ignorant hicks in the bible belt boo a man whose character is that of a staungh Republican who wants to kick Hispanics out of the country? Somewhere between JBL's ability to be hated and Eddie Guerrero's ability to be loved, something magical happened, and JBL remains hated to this day.
myke.
...totally missed SmackDown last night for a tattoo appointment and sushi. Mmm, glorious sushi. What's sad is that I didn't even realize (throughout the day) that I was missing SD until 9PM.
