So how good is Get Backers?
GetBackers is a fairly average action show. Really not much to write home about.
Actually, it doesn't bother me that much. Would you say it's a good deal at $47 though?
You can probably do better. The first Full Metal Panic series is decent, but nowhere near as good as Fumoffu and Second Raid, by the way. And then there's the awful packaging...

Alright, I'll wait on the Deep Discount sale then, thanks. And pass on Get Backers I guess. Oh, nice, Guile. I have to say I liked the sub a whole lot better than the dub for Suzuka though (but that's just me).

BTW, got my Kanon and Air DVDs in the yesterday. Now I just need to find a decent price on Vol. 5 of Kanon, haha. If not, I'll end up selling it (probably could make some $$$ that way, anyway...) and just wait for a deal on the thinpak.
It's a good deal but if you're not in a rush to get it I'd hold off until Deep Discount has their biannual sale and you could save a few bucks.
Thanks for reminding me, i'll probably try and get something FMP-related during that sale. I've been wanting to watch it for awhile now.

I could get you Vol. 5 if you really want it...

Getbackers is an ok show, but isn't "must have" or anything like that. If they had focused more on them actually "getting things back" instead of the side stories later on, it would have been more memorable IMO.

@the_punisher: Ah, thanks again for the offer, but I think I've made up my mind to just sell it. I would have spent about $60 for the whole series if I kept it, and I really can't justify spending that much for 1 show when there are other series I think I would enjoy more that I don't own. I know I'll be able to get the thinpak for cheaper down the road anyway, and I'm going to need the space, heh. I'm happy with my Air box set though :).

Damn, I bit. I've been waiting on a decent price for EVA, and this edition with the tin and all the extras for $50 is too sweet to pass up. Plus, I needed a "filler" for my Suzuka DVDs, haha. This will have to be my last anime purchase for a while >.

Well im so damn glad I checked this out. Got Gantz S1 & 2, and GetBackers S2... thought I had it but I only had S1. Once I get paid I'm most likely going to get Yu-yu S1-4 and DBZ S2... Man I'm glad I saw this. My savings account has enough money anyway haha
Welp I got :
GetBackers S2
DBZ S2
Gantz S1/2

and does anyone know if Elfen Lied is worth it?
Elfen Lied is amazing, but very....disturbing. Just be warned ;)
and does anyone know if Elfen Lied is worth it?
I loathe it (and I'm no prude). It's a shallow harem/moe show with violence and super-annoying characters. I'll never understand why so many people here enjoy it.

New sale up. I don't know much about many of the titles, but i'll see what you guys think about them.

Gear up for major savings on DVDs and Blu-ray from Manga Entertainment – from the exploits of Motoko Kusanagi and the members of Section 9, in Ghost in the Shell, to more anime favorites including Strait Jacket, Noein, Tactics, Tokko, and Blood: The Last Vampire!

From now through June 18, take 40% OFF the retail prices of all titles from Manga Entertainment! (This includes items that are in-stock, pre-order and on-order!)

How? Just use the following reusable coupon code when you check out through RightStuf.com:

Coupon Code: majorsavings
Expires: June 18, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. CDT
I implore anyone who has not seen Noein to pick it up—especially at 24 dollars from this new sale. I thought it was amazing and it is one of my favorites.

Noein Box Set

Noein was $20 BEFORE the sale, haha. But I guess it's still good at $24. I haven't seen it but heard good things about it.
Very true , Noein has been a part of the weekly sale items for seemingly forever at $20. While $24 isn't that much more , it really seems hard to tell someone to get the show when it's been cheaper plenty of times before. $4 is still $4.

I'm kinda surprised though that they are doing Manga Entertainment as one of their 3 day coupons. Seems like they have enough high profile titles to be a regular 7 day coupon.

This. The first time I started watching it, I didn't even bother finishing it. Then a few months ago, my friend made a bunch of us watch it and even then, I still didn't think it was anything special. Also, the end is doesn't bring much closure, IMO. Especially one scene in which something is reveled for NO REASON AT ALL and then left at that.

I never noticed. Oh well, that doesn't change the fact that the show is amazing and that people should watch it.

I tried watching it a couple of times on the sci-fi channel, but it seemed really slow and incomprehensible.

I thoroughly enjoyed it personally, but I can't think of what scene you could be referring to. Yes the characters were cute and the violence was over the top, but I liked how it handled the characters being so damaged for lack of a better word.

In regards to the current sale, I'm disappointed that the Blood movie is up but not Blood+. I know it's been highly praised and all, but I Netflix streamed it last week and I thought that it was really ugly and the voice acting was awful, to say nothing of the somewhat incoherent story.

When the Director revels that he has the horns.
It might have been important in the manga (which I never read), but in the anime, it seems like it was just said to be said.

Sweet.

My Grave of the Firefiles shipped too- which creates an odd scenario for me... it's the first time in well over 5 years I haven't had an open order with TRSI.

Ah well- I imagine the sale starting today will fix that right up... ;)

Dark Horse, June 22, "royal", 33% off, etc.

Anyway, I was looking through their Dark Horse list and noticed that they have a new Evangelion manga out. Shinji Ikari Rising Project. Anyone know anything about this?

Suzuka Complete Series (thinpak) is down to $14.99 for this week's sale.
http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/NhITkiro1CdNQEmQSV/browse/item/80859/4/153/200
If you don't order this (or the singles for $3 each), you're crazy.

Death Note is down to $30 ea. for the box sets as well.

Samurai Champloo Complete Series (rerelease, preorder) for $40: http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/8mBRj-wEMQtu5mf9Og/browse/item/83242/4/153/200
They're cramming it all on 4 discs though... there will probably be some video/audio quality sacrifice for that. It's a shame for a series like that, too.

I''s/I''s Pure Box Set - $17.99
http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/8mBRj-wEMQtu5mf9Og/browse/item/82550/4/153/100
Would anyone recommend this? I haven't heard too much about it.

Well, taken from this review: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/35918/suzuka-box-set/
Suzuka is presented on DVD with a full frame aspect ratio. The show looks pretty good, but not quite as sharp as it should considering it was produced in 2005. The series has a look and feel to it that dates it back slightly further than that, but it's hard to tell how much of that was a part of production and not the transfer. The set is presented in a way that crams the 26 episodes onto four DVDs, which doesn't give a lot of breathing room. Because of that there are some compression related artifacts and noise, but otherwise the series retains its original look. While this is a decent looking series, it's nothing to get excited about and it won't really turn any heads.

It's really not a visually-oriented show though, so I don't think it would matter too much. If you want to save space (and a few bucks), go with the thinpak.
New sale, although i don't see anything to get excited about...oh well, i've ordered enough anyway ;)
The only thing I see I am interested in that I don't already have is Ping Pong Club.

Just an F.Y.I. for anyone wanting but passing on the CPM sale- Central Park went Media Out of Business a few weeks ago, so the entire catalog is Out of Print (save for half a dozen titles quickly scooped up by ADV.)

Be forewarned that this may be your last chance to grab some of these titles new/cheap. I jumped on Blackjack in a second. ;)

^^So I just checked the CPM list to see if there was anything I wanted and all I can say is that there is a LOT of hentai on there. Though I'm not going to lie, with a name like "Midnight Panther," I might have to look into that.

Yeah, CPM released an awful lot of hentai with a few decent series here and there - granted most of the good releases went through their Software Sculptors branch (Utena, Greenwood, Slayers).

There's not a lot listed there that is worth owning. You can probably get Grave of the Fireflies cheaper now with ADV's reacquisition. Roujin Z is entertaining enough, but is more a rent than a buy.

Hmmm, this may be a bit late but I just noticed that The Girl Who Leapt Throught Time LE is $29 on Shawne's Deal of the Day. It's 10 out of 10. I've never watched it but I hear good things about it so if anyone's interested, it's there.

Got my package in earlier today.

Now and Then, Here and There on 2 discs = Fail.

When they try to cram 13 episodes on only two DVDs, you know there's going to be some quality sacrificed. Oh well, I only paid $18 for it anyway, heh.

Not that anyone besides me probably cares , but have I mentioned before how much I dislike 3 day coupons? It's a hassle to have to update the OP for such a short amount of time (especially when they stack them back to back like they've been doing :bomb:).

In any case , enough of my complaining. OP has been updated.

I like it this way, it keeps things moving until a good coupon comes out ;).

Oh no :whistle2:#

If you actually watched the original series on the previous DVDs, please let us know if there are any noticable quality differences.

I really enjoyed TGWLTT. I picked up the LE from Best Buy for around $17 during the 50% off sale. It's a good one to watch, IMO, but I'm still undecided if I'd want to own it (sold my copy after watching).

I've actually never seen it before. My FMA season sets were the same way (6 or 7 episodes on a disc); I'm think about selling them buying the singles because of it. This seems to be a common trend with re-releases of complete series. I'm really not sure how much it impacts the quality though; maybe it's not so bad (?). If anyone else knows, please share.
I like it this way, it keeps things moving until a good coupon comes out ;).
It annoys me- sometimes a bunch of good coupons hit in quick order, and my wallet can't really handle more than 1 TRSI order a week.

I prefer the longer coupons, so I have more time to stockpile cash for a big sale (as opposed to right now- between the Dark Horse and CPM sales, if there's a Viz sale on Thursday I'm pretty much screwed.)
