Losing My Religion. They say it themselves, their career is split into pre-Religion and post-Religion. Can't say their stuff on Warner is bad, but it's certainly a different direction and not a lot of bands seem to try IRS-age REM style anymore. Closest I've found is Silver Jews. Who'd be great for Rock Band (suitable, fun songs, new sound for the game) if they weren't so mellow.
They definitely lost their "sound" or whatever you want to call it with Out of Time even though I think Automatic and New Adventures are pretty great. The albums without Bill Berry aren't REM to me though. Up was so-so and I didn't like Reveal at all - I didn't even bother with Around the Sun which is sad considering REM used to be one of my favorite bands. Back in 8th grade when Document came out I didn't think it could get any better.
My apolgies if this has been brought up before, but my daughter snapped the bass pedal in half last night(towards the heel). Does anyone out there know if it's worth calling Harmonix or is it gonna be "do-it-yourself" FTW ?
Happened to me too, they're supposed to repair it. I filled out the automated form, but they haven't sent me a return box yet.

Thanks, now I know.
But of course, after seeing Maynard's pic............:whistle2:k.

Yea, I was gonna say don't get Around the Sun. Only album that doesn't feel like REM to me. Even Up and Reveal, lousy as they generally are (only one song I like on Up, and that's an accidental rip of a Leonard Cohen song) felt like a band. Around the Sun feels like one guy. Still have high hopes for Accelerate though.

Anyway, less music geekery, more music training. Harmonix developers talking about drumming strategies, based on real drumming concepts like rudiments and diddles (which is now the funniest musical term I know).
I would love some early R.E.M., but anything before and including Eponymous was on IRS, which folded into EMI. R.E.M. themselves are on Warner now. So the logistics might be tough, and frankly, I expect the next R.E.M. DLC to be a promo single from Accelerate. But if it could happen, give me Radio Free Europe, It's The End of the World as We Know it, and either Driver 8 or So. Central Rain and I'll eat it right up.

And I'm in for an OXM swap too. Apparently the difficulty spread is pretty good.
Yes, please. I mean, how could they not do that?

I am of course up for OXM disc swapping. Has it been confirmed that the songs actually download to the HD?

With the OXM disc, wouldn't it just be easier if we just paid for shipping it to the next person or whatever on "the list". It costs almost nothing to ship, it's a small little case. Can't we just put it in one of those brown padded envelopes, put some stamps on it, and drop it in the mailbox?

Anyone have a phone number or address to write at EA for someone in customer service that is a manager level or higher? It took them a month to send back my guitar and their customer service sucked when I tried to investigate why it was taking so long. Their web support and regular customer service numbers are worthless for getting real help if you're unwilling to yell at people.

While out grocery shopping, I saw the new issue of OXM and picked it up (and ouch @ $10!). I'm trying to see if I can rip the disc to a burnable/readable .iso.

Also, I can confirm that yes, it does just copy to the hard drive. So, if I can't get it to rip, I'll be willing to start the swap train.

The only thing I ask is that I can get a few dollars to help cover the initial cost, which only seems fair. Just divide $10 amongst however many people get in on this swap train, myself included. So, say if there are 10 people total, myself included, it'll be $1 a head + the cost to ship (~$1, since it's a thin, light case).

Anyone interested, PM me and I'll add you in order of PMs received, which will, in turn, be shipping order:

EDIT: PM's were received, and I will reply to them all a little later regarding the $1 ante-up. The OXM disc will be going out to GenDV138 first thing tomorrow.

As far as shipping goes, everyone will just pay to ship it to the next person in line, as long as the caboose can please send it back to me once it's made it's rounds, since I'll be the most out monetarily on this.

sounds good.

how about we send in $1 for you to cover the cost of the disc. than everyone just pay for thier own shipping when they send it to the next person in line. which should only be a stamp or 2.

These threads for games with a lot of downloadable content suck when the OP doesn't edit them. CAG 2.0 better have editable wikis at the beginning of threads.

...just use the regular Wikipedia, that shits edited like 2 minutes after anything is announced.

WTF? I am a subscriber and haven't received mine yet... I think some fucker at the post office nabbed my issue.
Doubt it, magazines always are on the newsstands before subscribers get their issues.

You'll probably get it in Feb.
Are you sure about that? I always thought it was the other way around.

Yeah, it is. Subscribers are supposed to get their issues before newsstands, thats one of the perks of subscribing. I think i'll wait till the oxm songs are up on marketplace even if they charge, I still have a ton of free points to spend.
Are you sure about that? I always thought it was the other way around.
From OXM's site: Subscribers should be receiving the February 2008 issue soon; it hits newsstands on January 15. Watch for it — and keep on rockin'!

Curious question. Does the online have random matchmaking? From what I can tell, there's competitive face offs, but is there anything for creating a cooperative band other than friend requests?

Thanks for the response. Figured there wouldn't be many vocalists. I know that the people's voices go through the speaker when they sing on local, does it go through on live? And can you start the game without a certain band member? How does the game handle it when a person doesn't have DLC, just doesn't show up?

1 - no, unless they hold R [ or is it L ] , which is suppose to be used to talk during a song.

2 - yes, if you want to play with just 1 friend, the other 2 members will be bots.

3 - it appears on the list but it is grayed out.

My copy of Rock Band has been ordered. Can't wait! A friend bought it at release, and I really enjoyed it.

I wouldn't mind jumping on the OXM disc list...assuming you guys are still adding people to the list.

Room for one more! I'll throw you in the last spot.

Once we work through the list some, I may add a few more spots. We'll see.

Has anybody done any bass pedal modding? How did it turn out?

My bass pedal has cracked twice already and I don't want to happen a third time, so I'm looking for something to mod it with. I'm gonna hit up Guitar Center or Sam Ash tomorrow to get drum mutes cause that damn clicking sound annoys me when I play a song, so I can do that mod... but I'm really looking for something to do with the bass pedal.

And I don't really want to do the real bass pedal mod, because I know if I get a real bass pedal, I'll end up getting a real drum set... :D

Were you able to rip to iso?
Were you able to rip to iso?
Unfortunately, not. My DVD drive kept producing cyclic redundency errors. Doesn't surprise me. That was my spare drive that is a POS.

My bass pedal broke at the super thin plastic on the swivel. I bought a momentary push switch, speaker wire, and a mono audio jack so I can build my own pedal. My pedal didnt turn at good at all (was giving me foot/pain problems).

So Instead I popped the pin out of the original bass pedal and duct taped the plastic piece that broke back on. I put the pedal back on and put the pin back in. To my awesome luck this doesn't work very well either because after a couple songs the tape comes loose and it barely works.

So to keep the pedal from popping out near the swivel I duct taped The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on top of the bottom of the pedal to keep it from popping up. I have been using this for a while now and it works good enough.

On another note I orderd a replacement pedal from EA and that came today. So to ensure that the pedal does not break again I bought this wooden pedal replacement from here http://www.woodrockpedals.com. I haven't got the wooden pedal in the mail yet (should be here tomorrow or monday), but I will let you guys know how it works.

Hope that helps.

So...I got my replacement guitar quickly, and sent mine back 4 days later...this was over a week ago and I still haven't gotten an e-mail saying EA received it. Should I be worried?
So any guesses to next weeks DLC?

I hope we get some Smashing Pumpkins or Muse
Cherub Rock's a decent start, but 1979 could be rather cool.

I was thinking "Today"... but pretty much anything before (and a few songs from) Melancholy would work.

Hey now, add me. How much is this gonna cost?
I was thinking "Today"... but pretty much anything before (and a few songs from) Melancholy would work.
I'm not too well-versed on Smashing Pumpkins, so 1979 was the first thing that came to mind. Listening to it now, it sounds a little repetitive, so it may not be the best pick.
They desperately need Don't Stop Believin' - Journey in this next pack.
I absolutely loathe Journey, but agree with this wholeheartedly.
