Drums:

March of the Pigs - This song will definitely suck if you don't know how the basic off-beats are located in the song, which is basically everywhere. Good, intense song with those little breaks in between for a breather and to get your snare lined back up again if you get thrown off.

The Collector - Everything during the verses and the chorus is pretty even and straightforward. Most, if not all, of the bass notes are in beat with the yellow drum, so losing track shouldn't be that hard. Another thing to look out for is how it the bass notes sometimes switch off from double to triples, to singles, and all over the place. Five-starred this on my first try also, reminds me of how much this song kicks ass off of With Teeth.

The Perfect Drug - I knew this song was going to suck on drums before I even played it, and it hasn't made any clear sense to me after 2 playthroughs.
Collector also becomes a piano at the end of the song so you basically do a piano solo for a guitar solo, which kinda makes me think for Rock Band 2 I'm hoping a third guitarist that can either be a rhythm guitarist or be a keyboardist in a sense.
With so many songs with keyboard/synth in them, I'm convinced they're going to announce a keyboard peripheral within the year. Which would hopefully be compatible with many existing songs.

If it comes down to near all possible instruments, I would explode in pants if they released a cowbell peripheral. Imagine the fun. ;)

And I'm absolutely serious, too. :whistle2:#

Good pack. MotP is awkward and fun as expected. I suspect this pack will sell really well, so hopefully we'll get another NIN pack in the next few months. Not every song in their catalog really translates to this environment, but regardless I'd like to see Terrible Lie, Only, and Mr. Self-Destruct in the next one if they do it.

I would Kill for Only, Closer, and Happyness is Slavery

in Slavery ;)

I would love Somewhat Damaged.

If they release a keyboard add-on I really really really hope it comes with DLC for EVERY song so you can do some 5 piece jamming.

They don't need to make a cowbell peripheral. Go to your local hardware store and buy a real one for $5. Hold the cowbell and mic in the same hand and bang at it with a drumstick. I'm sure it'll be loud enough to register.
You should do another list breaking down where the bands are from, just to expose Harmonix for favoring the Boston area. I've also covered your post in mah blogz.
Then where the fark is my DKM? (OR MY MOTHER fuckING TOOL?!)

Can't wait to get home, dload the NIN pack (sleep) and then head of to my friends. He thinks he's hot shit on drums, can't wait to see the look on his face when he plays The Perfect Drug

n00b to this thread - but is there still an active train or something for the OXM disc with the free freezepop track on it? Wouldn't mind hoping on it if its still around.
Rockband needs Bodom, immediately.

and Keyboard add-on even faster.
What the hell is a Bodom?
Just listened to/watched these on Youtube and I'm really not feelin' the charts. I think I'll pass.
Same here man, I am going to pass too. I don't think the drum charts look fun.

ya I'm partially dissapointed by the NIN pack. I'm not a fan of NIN, but I do have to admit their music is a nice change of pace in the rock band library.

I didn't really like March of the pigs as much as the other 2 songs, but it was the most challenging. And I wish I had a drum kit cuz that opening sounded awesome to play.

Only played the guitar charts so far but very fun.

LOVE playing the piano notes, especially the piano solo.

I find it absolutely hilarious when people complain that they are playing a keyboard or piano or scratching or whatever sound on their 'guitar'. Remember you are playing a plastic toy with buttons on it. It's actually closer to a real keyboard than a real guitar anyway LOL.

Can't wait to try drums and vox on these. Awesome stuff.

DLC Patch for Rockband for a few songs.

Hey everyone,

A few songs we have released for DLC have been patched. The patches are live already on the 360, and go live on PS3 on the 28th. Online play/leaderboards/ranking are not affected by this. To get the updated DLC songs you can re-download them (directions at bottom of post). You won't be punished for not downloading them again, however, as the fixes have no effect on gameplay.

The following songs have incorrect genre tags which cause them to be lost when sort by genre in-game:

Title/Launch Date

“Can’t Stand Losing You” 20-Nov

“Roxanne” 20-Nov

“Synchronicity II” 20-Nov

“Police Pack 01” 020-Nov

“Brass in Pocket” 18-Dec

Also there was a bug where the vocals wouldn’t turn off when the user put them the whole way down but this has been fixed now! -

“Limelight” 1-Jan

How to re-download-

Xbox 360

Navigate to the System Blade ( purple ), select memory, all devices, games, Rock Band, search for any of the listed songs (right trigger is a page down ), select the song with the A button, and then select Delete.

Now either re-download from marketplace, or from the download history.
after playing the Nin songs, I'm more hyped than ever for the stage kit
Maybe when it gets clearanced...

I'm just unsure of how my 360 would react to fog around it is all. Though it would be a good time to buy that and bust that out infront of an audience of stuffed animals and RAWK.

I gotta say, The Perfect Drug on hard has to be my favorite non-expert drum song (I'm not going to even attempt that on expert - yet). Man that kicks ass. March of the Pigs rocks, as I'd expect - its really short but all three instruments are great. The Collector is pretty 'meh', but an acceptable throw in with the rest of the pack.

I just have to throw my load all over this discussion. I have a Hate 1990 shirt. I watched Reznor throw away his latex sleeves for a curl bar. And I even watched the horror that is With Teeth and his subsequent album Year Zero unfold. Yet, I still listen.

With that said, 'The Collector" is an amazingly large shit of a song, made even worse for Rock Band. Playing synth progressions with a guitar is akin to using a Power Glove. Absolutely silly. I realize the argument here - but why even bother to pick "The Collector" when you could grab more guitar driven songs like "Happiness in Slavery" or "Terrible Lie." If anything, "The Collector" is a massive waste of money.

"March of the Pigs" is great and "The Perfect Drug" suffices. I'm a huge Nails fan and I'm not opposed to just listening to synthetic progression instead of playing. It's the feeling of Rock Band, not the actual strumming. They're grabbing my niche here and I was actually excited about this pack, but I'm really disappointed in the executing - namely "The Collector."

Here's to my little wish of a Pretty Hate Machine pack starring "Terrible Lie," "Head Like a Hole," and "Sin."

I'm a bit bummed that The Collector was included, definitely one of the weaker songs. I agree with Terrible Lie and Head Like A Hole.. i'd also like to see Burn and Heresy.

"Dead Souls" from The Crow soundtrack would be nice as well. It wouldn't be a particularly hard song, just fun to play.

Study up

i would imagine there are a lot of people like me...
this is the only game i can get my girlfriend to play with me, so i would never buy any music with screeching vocals like that. not to mention, i don't even want to hear it myself.
i just don't see harmonix spending much time on songs like this, as i can't imagine they'd sell that well. i guess we'll see how the thrash pack sells.
Is anybody else completely done playing with fake plastic instruments?
I drive by the same pawn shop every day and see a few guitars sitting in the window. I have no clue how to play a real guitar at all, but damn am I tempted to go into that pawn shop one of these days and drop some bones on a real guitar.
Am I the only one who doesn't dig the full albums?

I don't really want to buy a block of 10+ songs from the same band.
If it is one of your favorite bands, I think it's a great idea.

But I mean it's not like you're being forced to purchase the albums.
I'm having trouble on the impossible tier of Expert guitar. Anyone have some tips on the Highway Star solo part D?:bomb:
Don't even bother, if you can't pass that you'll never beat green grass and high tides
Don't even bother, if you can't pass that you'll never beat green grass and high tides
This is unfortunately true.
I'm having trouble on the impossible tier of Expert guitar. Anyone have some tips on the Highway Star solo part D?:bomb:
Is it the hammer-ons or the quick strumming part, or both? Both would probably benefit a lot from just practicing. For the hammer-ons, I just strum each first note out of the three and hammer onto the next two. I do the same for the green-yellow-blue section, only using my ring and pinky fingers, then I slide my index up to the red for the last section and play it just like the first. The quick-strumming part is fairly easy as well, once you get the pattern down. Just listen to the notes, really. If it's still giving you trouble, slowing it down should help you immensely with the timing.
Is anybody else completely done playing with fake plastic instruments?
Not really. I've played real guitar consistently and well for 20 years and I actually have more fun playing rock band.

I still play my Ibanez guitar. I hope for my birthday i could get a gibson hummingbird.

I have a feeling that when they finally put out the complete albums, you'll have the option to buy the songs indivdually. Just like a song pack of 3 is also broken up as 3 single downloads.

My original guitar was a launch guitar that got the downstrum issue a few weeks ago, so I sent it in for repair. I received the replacement yesterday and tested it out earlier tonight. I noticed a few things:

 • The strum bar is really loose
 • The whammy bar is really loose
 • There's a rattling inside the guitar
 • The d-pad is really stiff and almost unusable

Are the things I listed above normal? EA/Harmonix may have redesigned the strum bar to eliminate the issue with the launch batch, so the redesign may account for the loose strum bar. That, and I've been using the GHIII Les Paul for a few weeks now, so I've gotten used to the tightness of its strum bar. The same goes for the whammy bar: is it supposed to have almost no resistance? The Les Paul whammy bar is pretty tight, so I might be used to that.

The rattling could be a redesigned tilt sensor (similar to the vertical/horizontal orientation sensor on the 360); my original guitar didn't rattle, but the tilt sensor could have been redesigned, as I believe there might have been some issues with it.

I never used the d-pad much on my original guitar, but I don't remember it being as stiff as the one on this replacement guitar. On this one, it feels almost like it's popped out of socket; you have to press really hard to get it to move, and there's not much springiness to it. Also, you can press it directly into the guitar without it tilting in one of the four directions.

Except for the d-pad, everything works fine. The strum bar and whammy bar are both very responsive; they just feel really loose.

There are some minor surface scratches and there were some hairs on the guitar when I took it out of the packaging, so it could be that the replacement guitar I received has been heavily used. Do you think the things I listed above are normal? Should I keep this guitar or send it back and hope for a better one?
