[quote name='mykevermin']Very quickly:
1) The 75-cent difference is a 12.5% price difference. Over the course of one set of DLC, no big deal perhaps. Over say, 5-10 download packs (especially if GH is going to compete with RB and release weekly DLC), then suddenly you've spent $7.50 more for DLC. Also, the lack of the a la carte option amongst GH DLC packs is bothersome.
2) Master tracks of No Doubt? I'd rather have a coversong than that. The free Dropkick Murphys songs were pure advertising for DM newest (shitty) album. Not one standout; not one 'classic.' Not one song that translated well to Guitar Hero at all. They stink and are no fun to play. Sure, they're free, but free stuff that stinks still stinks. And I say this as a fan of DM; their songs are not conducive to GH, because of the repetitive hesher-less nature of their songs. Also, I count 5 free songs: the DM pack, the Halo song (for 360 owners), and "We Three Kings." Sorry, but the Boss Battles don't count in my world.
3) Turnabout is fair play. Harmonix/EA have every reason in the world to cockblock Activision/Red Octane right back. Don't expect compatibility.
4) It's not about how prolific one company is over another, or disc versus DLC. It comes down to quality. GH1 and 2 are still classics. 80's and III are not. Rock Band brings the genre to a whole new level. GH has a name franchise, and between 80's, III, and the $50 DS version, have clearly overstepped the boundaries and delved into "overlicensed and overreleased" territory.

The point you're making here is akin to saying XBLA must be worse than PSN since there are a larger number of shittier games on XBLA, when the reality is that the paltry selection on PSN (or GH) doesn't allow for any reasonable comparison. In terms of DLC, Rock Band wins hands down. Screaming for Mother

in' Vengeance.

1. Fair enough, but an argument could be made for master tracks being worth an extra .75 cents.
2. We can debate artists all day long, which would be a fruitless endeavor. Serj, Paramour, Freezepop and Bang Camero master tracks? Thanks, I'll take No Doubt any day of the week over that garbage. It's all personal preference. Why shouldn't the 3 boss tracks count? People bitch about fighting the bosses, so here are the songs without that hassle. Win-win. You also forgot Aerosmith - Dream On which brings the total to 9 free ones. You trash DM for promoting their album by giving away 3 FREE tracks. What about charging for Motley Crue's promotional track?
3. Both companies can, what's the phrase? "eat a dick" if neither set of peripherals are compatible with each other.
4. See #2, all a matter of song preference. You say III is forgettable but I'll take it any day of the week over II. Don't get me wrong, II is great but for me it fails because 98% of the tracks are covers. And again how is it that Activision is guilty of the "overreleased" tag when Harmonix has put out an equal number of titles? (you toss in the DS game, I toss in Harmonix's iPod game) Still on equal footing. People just like to generalize and toss the Tony Hawk stigma onto the GH franchise without any basis for that claim.
Oh well, to each their own. I'm up for owning both franchises because both have their strong points and doubling my song selection isn't a bad thing in the least.
