Come on, Rock Band. If GH4 has Van Halen, I know you can do it, too.
Thats how I feel about everything. RB will get it eventually. I am a patient man.

Okay, we've started the endless setlist on expert...but my roommate and i are both busy as hell. We're shooting for 15-20 tracks a day. Hopefully the Xbox doesn't break before we're finished. We just finished 10/58

A little bit late in responding but .> right here. Just send me a request or something.

How does one make the jump from medium to hard. Im pretty good on medium now but Hard is scary. What techiniques does everyone use and what should I be doing to get ready for Hard. Right now I am trying to get 5 star on all the songs on medium. I am about halfway there.

Try playing Bass Hard, the transition is a lot easier then Guitar Hard.

That's what i would like to know. I would like to see someone play it with the orange button. I'm pretty 'OK' with medium, but with hard, it feels like another world.

Which is better? Shifting my hands (G,R,Y,B -> R,Y,B,O) or finger (between G and R) or BOTH?! I have a hard time and have been stuck with medium since I got the game a few months back.

With the RB guitar, I finger shift between R and G, but with the Les Paul i have to shift my entire hand. Start with Hard Bass, and it will slowly come to you. I remember being in teh same position a few months back, and hard was killer, now I can 5 star almost everything, and now play expert pretty well... It just takes time and patience

Optimally you'd be able to switch seamlessly between GRYB and RYBO. I've had GH games for awhile and still have some trouble with it, but not enough to totally ruin songs for me.

A safe bet would be running some of the easier songs on hard in practice mode at maybe 70% speed...or full speed if you just don't want to fail out. Honestly, the hardest part of playing with oranges is if you get a quick hammer-on over to the right while the rest of the notes are on the left. Getting comfortable with 2 hand positions will prepare you well for anything else.

I need that one too.

Ugh. Playing online, and some cat joins my game only to drop immediately - and suddenly I'm searching for a game again, and join up with him as the leader. He, as the cliche goes, immediately jumps to "Run To The Hills" on Expert.

So he got all shitty because he couldn't be the leader and select the same boring shit-ass song everyone else selects.

Granted, I fuckin' suck at the song on Expert. And Hard. But that's not the point - it was this pisspoor attitude that he didn't want to play unless he could pick the song. fuck that and fuck him.

Not much to add except I agree. It's funny how I pretty much gave up on GH2 after clearing normal months before Rock Band came out, figuring I'd never put in enough time / get good enough to play songs that use the 5th fret liberally. I ain't that good at all.

But to my surprise (and that's to RB's slightly lower difficulty level), with enough practice even I was able to clear hard on Rock Band, and because of that I'm currently slowly but surely making my way through both expert on Rock Band and hard on GH2. If I can do it, I'm sure most people on here can with enough practice.

Yes, two hand positions are important. Being able to switch between both at different parts of the song is an important skill as well. Also learning to hold down the G & R buttons when you are playing Y, B & O make a big difference. For example if the notes are G R G R, you keep G held down the entire time you play these notes.

Also when you are playing sections with chords it is best to slide your hand down. So if you play GY, RB, YO just use your index & ring fingers and slide them down to hit those passages.

Practice and playing harder difficulties/games helps a ton as well. When I started playing GH games I got stuck in Hard on GHII, even though I could 5* everything in medium. When I got GHIII (which is significantly harder than GHII) I found that even though I got stuck in the middle of Hard again, I was able to finish off Hard and most of expert in GHII. In RB I am 80% through expert and that has helped me even though it is easier than GHII & III.

I have heard people say to play songs at lower difficulties and then try to play the same song at the harder difficulty, but that doesn't really help me (especially if its going from Medium to Hard). If I'm stuck on a song in Hard, I usually just practice it at a slower speed or play other songs on Hard. The jump to Hard in GH is the toughest jump and often when you start off playing the GH games you work through Easy and Medium and develop bad habits (like fingering every note instead of holding down G R when you play Y/B/O) that you have to un-learn your poor technique and re-learn proper technique once you get to Hard.

Thaks for the tips everyone. I think I am going venture to the scary world of hard/bass. Wish me luck. Now to download some new songs.

Can I play with my brother two of the instruments (side by side same PS3) and have someone else playing online with the other instruments?

Don't know about PS3, but you can on 360. Not BWT, of course.

Does anyone know if the Cars album is coming out next week, because I'd really like it before Memorial Day, bastards better not screw me with some more crap like the past few weeks...

Screw the Cars... they still owe us Who's Next and Nevermind.
Played some World Tour with a buddy on Friday night. It's pretty cool that the dlc will randomly appear in your setlists, and also that you can make setlists at each venue with the new dlc. Playing the songs on the disc can get pretty repetitive.
Is there anything you need to do to get this to happen?
Do the Bonus songs ever randomly pop up?
I feel like every time my wife and I play we get "Train Kept a Rollin", "Run to the Hills", and "Sabotage" but there are a number of songs (even in the Main Setlist) that we have never played.

This is huge. I only just started doing this after owning the game for months. Also, learning to up/down strum early is incredibly important. I downstrummed only all through GH2 and GH3, then finally started alternating for RB and it's been a very hard transition. My roommate started doing up/down immediately when we moved in about 6 weeks ago (he'd only played GH twice before that) and he's already better than me on just about everything.

I won't go as far as to blow off the Cars, but I do really want Who's Next.
Screw the Cars... they still owe us Who's Next and Nevermind.
I get the feeling Nevermind may either be canned or at least not complete when it finally does show up. It hasn't really been mentioned since the game was released. I sort of understand if they don't put out everything; it's not like "Something in the Way" lends itself to Rock Band that well.

I suppose it's more disappointing that they haven't said anything about it, at least then we'd know if it's coming or not. I hope they at least give us a 6-pack like they did with Boston and the Dead. That'll total seven songs from that album, which I suppose is enough.

With both GH 4 and RB 2 in development, do you guys really think we'll be getting much more dlc for the currents games in these series?

I can't seem to do fast strumming anymore without consistently breaking the combo.

Do I suck, or do I need a replacement?
Wish someone could test it for me.

I can only do the fast strums with the Xplorer (and probably the Les Paul but I don't have one). The Strat sucks at those sections.

I'm fudged probably (ps3) then unless I learn to alt strum.
Someone just told me a way to test to strum bar, as well as point out to me that alt strumming is necessary for the really fast parts.

Hell yes we will. They are already making good money on it and will end up making a killing by the time it stops. If it ever does.

The interview where they said they'd be ramping up how much content they release on a weekly basis is only like 2 or 3 weeks old. If anything I bet we'll start seeing 6-song releases more and more frequently after another month or three.

I'd bet my 360 that the DLC we have now will be compatible with Rock Band 2 anyway, so there is zero reason to slow down.

If downloadable content weren't compatible with Rock Band 2, I imagine people would be so angered, they'd just quit the series. I know I would.

Does anyone know if you can see your record in Ranked matches somewhere? I was playing last night and all I can find is my "TrueSkill" rank on the leaderboards page. Also someone mentioned people quitting in TugOWar and Score Duels, well I finally started playing online last night and somehow was able to get the 5 in a row achievements for both modes without anyone quitting, then all of a sudden the quitting started. Bad enough when people quit half way through the song when they get behind, but I had a guy quit at the end of Wanted Dead or Alive, which I was already sick of because it showed up 2 other times already. Do I get credit for a win in that case?

Also can you set up a ranked match and pick a song, etc or can you only do quickplay in ranked mode?

If your opponent quits at ANY point before the end of the song, he gets a loss but you don't get a win. I believe any streak you have keeps going, though.
If they continue with the DLC for Rock Band, what will be left for RB 2?
Yes, since rock music is in such short quantity...

I'm sorry, I just had to be an ass in order to answer that and just look or ask anybody their Rock Band track wishlist. Seriously, if Harmonix took all that to heart there would be over a few thousand some songs (and growing) so I think we're fine...

I was only kidding though. Yes there are thousands of songs, at a rate of a little over 150 songs released a year things will be fine.

Maybe its just me though. I only like rock from the late 90s and back.

What would be left for Rock Band 2 would be all the new stuff which I'm sure people like.
They might also be saving AC/DC and Led Zeppelin for Rock Band 2.

What I hope is that things like the Disturbed promotion are just the tip of the iceberg here.

"Deluxe Editions" of music albums are becoming increasingly common. Sometimes you get bonus videos or fancy packaging. But imagine if a deluxe album threw in download codes to get the entire album in Rock Band format? Listen up RIAA, because THAT would get people to buy CDs!

Oh, and I almost forgot about this... anyone remember when P.O.D. released an album that included a PS2 disc with an Amplitude level on it? Kind of a precursor to the Disturbed deal. Of course the DLC format works a lot better in this case.

Industrial and Melodic metal with an extra guitar acting as a keyboard (if we don't get a keytar) is what I keep demanding. Really KMFDM and Children of Bodom are one of those bands that I worship so if they can get that in there, awesome. Though hell, I'd even settle for cheese-tacular "Final Countdown" from Europe, just someway to incorperate keyboards or synthesizers I guess.

Of course there's always the insane dream of The Beetles coming out on Rock Band 2. Though personally I rather have more metal and 70's and up era rock music (no offense to all you Beetles fans).

None taken, particularly because they're the Beatles.

Beatles need their own game, a la GH: Aerosmith. It would be perfect and I guarantee you that 40-somethings and 50-somethings would pick up consoles just to play it. Talk about an untapped demographic.

And I don't think anyone's "saving" Zep. Zep is just the ultimate in stinginess with their track licensing.

Beatles material would be insane. And the master tracks have been very well-preserved, as evidenced in the "Love" soundtrack, so from a technical standpoint it would be very feasible.

I never really got into music on my own until the latter half of high school. Before that it was pretty much just my parents' Beatles collection, so I was pretty much raised on that stuff. It's in my bloodstream! I'd be all over that DLC/expansion if they released it for any game.

When a track gets licensed for a music game, who handles it? Is it entirely in the hands of whoever "owns" the music, or do new agreements have to be reached with producers, songwriters, etc? I wonder because I know there have been a lot of headaches with TV DVD releases, as far as relicensing music and stuff. But I figure the process may be more straightforward when it is strictly music that's being dealt with.

For example, if they wanted to do "Purple Rain," could Warner Bros. just go over Prince's head and license it for Rock Band, since they own the album?

I believe playing through the single player and unlocking all the songs helps the variety in BWT, IIRC.

Also the bonus songs DO show up in random sets. It's not often and it's only certain gigs but it is very annoying. I've gotten that Flyleaf song a couple times, the Uncle Bob (?) song and even Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld once.

yes, it would definitely be great if they would add the bonus and downloaded songs into the setlists (and not just random or choose your own) for band world tour... for myself that will nearly double the variety of songs. why limit it to the 45 or whatever songs over and over?

I don't know how Prince's deal is set up, but I suddenly want that to happen very badly regardless.
