Rock Band series - Rock Band 4 out now

I have to say, that for the Guitars, I prefer the GH Les Paul and the GH:WT Genericaster. They're compatible across the board, for one, and they can be found on the cheap right now too. I've had 2 Les Pauls for a while, one is starting to get a little touchy on the red button for some reason, but I picked up a GH:WT guitar a week ago from Sam's Club, and adjusted the strum via the instructions on 5frets.com. It's unbeatable now, combined with a set of Sanyo Eneloop AA's. The Rock Band guitars, with the exception of the RB2 Wireless one, are a little 'loose' all around.

Two things... The GH:WT and GH:Aerosmith Guitar/Game bundles are on clearance at many Sam's Clubs right now for $20 or less (the online stock indicator is trash - call and ask). Great if you need an extra guitar, and do what you wish with the game (achievement whore it, give it to a toys for teens thing, sell it on amazon/ebay, flip it at GS, whatever...). They also have the RB1 set for $50 (YMMV on that too).
Picked up a Torx mini set (Kobalt brand) for $6 @ Lowes to work on electronic stuff a while back, and it's served me well in fixing guitar controllers (T6 and T10 needed for the WT one).

Also - I noticed the RB2 wireless guitar on clearance at a local Best Buy for $35. YMMV on that.

Cool... thanks for the input, guys. I went ahead and picked up the Beatles set, and I can certainly say that I'm happy. The Hofner is uncomfortable, but I'm digging it quite a bit, and I still have two GH3 Les Pauls sitting around anyway. The drums... worlds better than the RB1 set. Worth the money right there. Weirdly, I was also really excited about the microphone stand. Finally being able to go into RB2 and do both the guitar and vocals on Tribute was something I've wanted to do for a while. On top of all that, the Beatles game itself is utterly fantastic. While I slightly disagree that the set needs to be $250, I don't regret it a bit.

So, like I said, I appreciate the input, since I never really used the World Tour stuff.

Oh, and Lego Rock Band is kind of awesome. Lego Iggy Pop = win.

Keep in mind this is NOT part of the 12/8 DLC, but rather a sneak preview of the 12/15 DLC. Plan accordingly!

Wow, never really thought I'd see any Simon and Garfunkle in Rock Band. May just have to grab both tracks. As for the Green Day, come on, more from 21st Century Breakdown? Bring on Dookie!

fucking finally, we get some Slipknot. I get to be 13 all over again.

Not the songs I would choose, but it's better than most of the other stuff that's been coming out lately. Depending on the charting I might get all three or just Duality.

Simon & Garfunkel? That is too awesome. I never would have thought.

I actually prefer the original acoustic version of "The Sounds of Silence" but now I'm kind of glad that Tom Wilson overdubbed the single with electric instruments--otherwise we would not be playing it in Rock Band 45 years later!

Definitely in for both Simon and Garfunkel tracks, but am I the only one who wonders how "The Sound of Silence" is deemed "family-friendly?" Not trying to cause trouble, I just thought that was funny
Definitely in for both Simon and Garfunkel tracks, but am I the only one who wonders how "The Sound of Silence" is deemed "family-friendly?" Not trying to cause trouble, I just thought that was funny
I don't think it's un-family friendly.

I know I've been hearing it a lot more after it was featured in Watchmen.
Slipknot is cool and all, but I was really hoping for Slipnuts.

We're The Slipnuts. Clowning around, and slipping on nuts.
If only before each song you can play that and harmonize with two other people while doing it. Be even better if you're announced before going on stage and the crowd cheers then gets confused and boos.

God bless you Conan.

Does Rock Band 1 have the same amount/same DLC as Rock Band 2 or do I need to buy Rock Band 2 to access all the DLC? Is there any reason to get RB 2 as well?

The DLC is all playable on either RB1 or 2, they don't limit you and I have both because there are some extremely kick-ass songs in Rock Band 2 that you can't get through DLC.

DLC is available for play in both games. There is no DLC that is available for only one. In fact I download all my songs through RB2 but they end up in the RB1 folder in my Xbox memory.

I prefer using the menu of RB2 (which is the same as the music store). It's much easier to scroll through songs and find information on them. Plus, there are a ton of great songs available only through the RB2 disc. You can find the game for $20 now anyway. I'd recommend buying the RB1 export key, and consolidating all your songs under RB2 (with the exception of those notorious 3 missing songs).

RB2(with its 82 on-disc songs + 20 free DLC songs) coupled with RB1's exported songs(minus the 3) is THE way to play Rock Band. I seriously doubt anybody would be dissatisfied enough with anything about RB2 to go back to the first one. It is better by leaps-and-bounds over the first one, both in menu interface and in Career mode/World Tour.

Yeah as others have said, RB1 is rendered completely obsolete by the sequel. And when it comes to the three non-transferable songs, keep in mind that two of those tracks were "As made famous by" versions anyway, one of which has since been replaced by a master track version as DLC.

The beauty of Rock Band is the ability to access a zillion songs from a single disc, so unless you are reeeeeeally attached to Enter Sandman and a cover of Paranoid, there is no reason to stick with the first game. Export the songs and don't look back!
As do I on the Green Day matter. Why aren't we getting Dookie? That's there best stuff!
It's been vaguely stated by the band that they're getting "their own Rock Band game" or something along those lines. Most likely we'll see an AC/DC-style track pack at some point, which is what I'd imagine they're saving all their old hits for.
Thanks guys. Looks worth picking up & with 20 free DLC songs holy shit.
Just to clarify, it's not ANY 20 DLC songs. It was a set group of 20 songs by lesser known bands that Harmonix included to fulfill their promise that you'd get over 100 songs with RB2. The songs aren't the greatest things you'll ever play, but a lot of them are decent, and when you're building up a massive library, it's always nice to have a good mix of stuff. The list of those 20 songs can be found in the OP.

Was the 20 free dlc songs only for new copies of the game? I don't remember ever downloading any free tracks with the exception of Still Alive.

If I remember right, it's a one time use only code you got to put in the Rock Band site that should be on the back of the instruction booklet. Though so far it's been in all the print runs of Rock Band 2.
You may want to check out your local Target for Rock Band 2 as I saw a bunch on clearance today for $12.48.
Were they only 360?

If anyone needs a registration code for the 20 songs, let me know, as I've got an extra one that I can hook you up with. PM Me.

UPDATE - GONE!

Yeah, this week marks the duo's first appearance in Rock Band. I'm always glad to see more '60s songs show up. I download every single one of them!

Don't know why I didn't notice this in the original announcement until now, but the Lights Resolve song "Dreaming of Love" is free. Free songs are always welcome in this household, even when they're iCarly songs.

Yes. Bring on Elvis and the Beach Boys track packs!

How amazing would Pet Sounds full album DLC be?

As much as I would love more Simon & Garfunkel and some Beach Boys, I'd almost rather they hold these songs back for Rock Band 3 because having those artists without vocal harmonies is almost blasphemous. I don't think I've ever had a time when I've thought "Man, I wish they would hurry up and force me to buy a new disc!", haha. But I think I'm getting to that point now.

I want it, but I'd much rather them hold it for post RB3 DLC so that they can incorporate harmonies.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this yet:

Starting December 15 on the Wii and Xbox 360 - and December 17 on the Playstation 3 - players will be able to grab three new Green Day tracks from the band's 21st Century Breakdown album: "Christian's Inferno," "Last of the American Girls," and "¡Viva La Gloria!". The tracks will be available individually for $1.99 / 160

Definitely getting it.

That super sucks. The copy I bought at GS was gutted and didn't come with the manual.

Hopefully I can get the code somewhere else, though.

I can't say that I've ever chosen to play any of them besides that initial time after d/l'ing them. You're not missing out, but if you feel you are, check youtube. I'm sure most are there for you to watch/listen before hunting down a code.

Gosh darn you! You had me all excited that these artists had tracks coming soon. I had to search back a few pages to see if I had missed this announcement!:bomb::D

MTV Games and Harmonix Add Rubber Soul As The Third Downloadable Album For The Beatles™: Rock Band™ On December 15th

New York – Dec. 11, 2009 – Apple Corps, Ltd., MTV Games and Harmonix, the world’s leading developer of music-based games and a part of Viacom’s MTV Networks (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), today announced The Beatles’ album Rubber Soul (1965) will be available in its entirety for purchase and playable as downloadable content in The Beatles™: Rock Band™ Music Store beginning Dec. 15, 2009.

Rubber Soul is the third album from The Beatles to appear in The Beatles: Rock Band Music Store since the video game’s launch Sept. 9, 2009. Previously Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) was released in the Music Store on Nov. 17, and Abbey Road (1969) on Oct. 20.

With “Drive My Car,” “I’m Looking Through You” and “If I Needed Someone” already included on The Beatles: Rock Band game disc, players will now be able to play songs from, and complete, the entire Rubber Soul album, including:

• “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)”
• “You Won’t See Me”
• “Nowhere Man”
• “Think For Yourself”
• “The Word”
• “Michelle”
• “What Goes On”
• “Girl”
• “In My Life”
• “Wait”
• “Run For Your Life”

Rubber Soul Album DLC for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system (Dec. 15) and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system (Dec. 17):

Available as:
• Individual Rubber Soul singles
• “Complete The Album Pack”

Price:
• $1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) per each individual track
• $13.49 USD, £7.49, €8.99 (1440 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) for “Complete The Album Pack”

That has to be an error on the album price for Rubber soul since $13.49 does not equal 1440 ms points.
That has to be an error on the album price for Rubber soul since $13.49 does not equal 1440 ms points.
Huh, weird. 1440 ms points sounds right for their usual album pricing (11 tracks for the price of 9) so I guess they just messed up the conversion to U.S. dollars (should be ~$18).
