Rock Band series - Rock Band 4 out now
So I was just looking into some Offspring news trying to find out some specifics about the album that's supposed to come out this year and found that Rise and Fall Rage and Grace didn't even go Gold here in the US. What. The. fuck?! That album is an ass stomper cover to cover.

And to keep it on topic, we need an Offspring Rock Band. Probably be best to keep the game's lyrics mostly in tact though and give it that M rating. Even though it seems so silly to give a game a mature rating just because of language, but at the same time the game is also asking you to yell out, "fuck!" and stuff when doing vocals and I know my parents though there was a difference between me hearing it and yelling it out. So...yeah. :whistle2:/
The problem with an all Offspring album would be the repetitive drum beats. Granted Bad Habit would be a great song to sing.

Meh, a lot of bands have mildly repetitive drum beats. Plus, I feel the offspring's music is so good I could play the same shit the entire time and just have an awesome time listening to the music

I realize that a whole game is probably long shot, but a large pack featuring the likes of...

The Noose
Race Against Myself
Lightning Rod
Stuff is Messed Up
Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?
Bloodstains
Me and My Old Lady
Million Miles Away
Vultures
Gotta Get Away
Defy You
Why Don't You Get A Job?
Want You So Bad
Spare Me the Details

Would be really nice. I feel like these songs offer a good variety of what the Offspring have to offer. I'm a drummer at heart, but I would love to sing Spare Me the Details, lol.

What a terrible list of songs. Have you never heard all of Smash or Ixnay On The Hombre? It'd be great to get all of Smash, their best album by far. Plus their newest album is like a bad rehash of their old stuff, they've failed.

I gotta agree with tcrash, I love the Offspring but wow that's a terrible selection of their songs. lol

I'd give the edge to Ixnay over Smash, there's just more variety there. Smash can get a little repetitive. Not to mention, there is no way Bad Habit would ever make the cut.

I dunno, only about half the songs on Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace are enjoyable to me. Their old albums were definitely better (to me).

Well I guess my taste aren't near as refined as yours tcrash and corvin. Although I doubt that off the top off your head you knew even half the songs I listed or that you went and listened to them.

The only one I'm unfamiliar with is Bloodstains. The rest is just too Splinter heavy, IMO, their weakest album by a long stretch. As for the others, I love everythting else you posted, but I'd just pick other tunes off their respective albums.

Just to save the non Offspring fans some time, spoilered Offspring talk:

Stuff is Messed Up & Kristy, Are You Doing Okay? SiMU is solid choice but Kristy is kinda slow (I like the song, but it would be boring on guitar), but I'd go with Half-Truism or You're Gonna go far, Kid

Me and My Old Lady *solid - as stated Ixnay is my fave so any tune off there is a no brainer* The radio tunes are great, Gone Away & I Choose, but toss in Amazed, Way Down the Line, Meaning of Life and maybe Cool to Hate and I'd be a happy camper.

Million Miles Away, Want You Bad, & Vultures - Want You Bad is awesome, the other two are decent, I just think something like One Fine Day, Dammit I changed or Special Delivery would be more fun.

Gotta Get Away - Like Ixnay, anything off Smash is a win.

Defy You - decent little tune, don't have feelings either way about it

Why Don't You Get A Job? - awesome tune. Toss in She's Got Issues, Walla Walla, & maybe Have You Ever or Feelings and we got a solid Americana selection.

No love for Ignition or their self titled? Jennifer Lost the War, We are One, & Dirty Magic would be fun.

Clearly the only real solution is full albums on RBN. :bouncy:

Mooooore Offspring Talk

I did put too much splinter in there. I built the list by just cruising through all their songs on my itunes and just picked out what stuck out. I didn't realize I put just about half the album on there.

See I added Kristy for the purpose that it is what is. It's a different kind of song from them. It definitely won't be pushin anyone's skills to the max.

I take a closer look and Change the World and Way Down the Line would be great from Ixnay. I mean a lot of the songs you listed are great, and I by no means thought my list to be the be all end all of offspring DLC.

You're right, we need some
fuckin' full album action or some fat ass 30 song pack. SOMETHING!!!

We don't need any more standalone band games...especially for one where there's already a shitload of content in the main series.

I'd make an exception for a near Beatles-level artist I guess (Zeppelin, Floyd), but I wouldn't buy them.
If the offspring is happening, I would be so in if they add "All I Want."

*remembers crazy taxi*
Well I have good news for you. All I Want is available as DLC.

I respect your opinion that Band only games shouldn't happen. However the reasoning that the offspring already has tons of content is a bit amiss. Since when is 6 songs a TON of content? We're not talking a RHCP, Grateful Dead or a Foo Fighters game here.

Well Offspring really has 8 songs
A Lot Like Me, All I Want, Come Out and Play, Gone Away, Hammerhead, Pretty Fly, Self Esteem, the Kids Aren't Alright
. Most of them being their radio hits. When you think about other bands on rock band... the majority only have 2-3. Personally I have been waiting for some 311 to show up... they have nothing. So I agree with kanerobot on this... they already have tons on content.

I Choose and Gone Away were huge at the time. GA probably got as much airtime as Self Esteem, possibly more.

Oddly enough I've heard "Bad Habit" on the radio a few times. I dunno if it was actually a radio single or if the station just put static over the cuss words themselves. Anyways I would definitely like to see more Offspring DLC. I like them way more than Overrated Day (my clever nickname for Green Day, har har). Don't want any full band games though!!

Bah, 8 it is.

Your reasoning that The Offspring have tons of content because another band has no content is pretty broken.
I Don't know, Tool suffered from fun to listen to, but boring as hell syndrome if I remember Guitar Hero: World Tour right.
Agreed. Boring as hell to play, but that's not to say all their songs would be. Just gotta find the right one.

Perhaps something from "Undertow"?
Perhaps something from "Undertow"?
I agree that the Tool from GH is kinda boring to play, but stuff off Undertow or Opiate would be a lot more fun. Jerkoff, Part Of Me and Prison Sex, oh yesssssssssssssss.

And on a side note, I'm pretty mad they're not doing any east coast dates on this mini summer tour. Unless its the same setlist as the last 2 tours where its almost all 10,000 Days and a few others, that I wouldn't care about seeing. But if they're playing like H, Pushit, Parabola, Swamp Song and the likes, then I'll be mega pissed.

That Tool achievement on GH: WT made me hate that damn song! Anytime I'd try to play a band game online, everyone would always pick it just to get that achievement! Individual song achievements for RB and GH games is a very bad idea.

I don't mind the stand alone band games and expansion discs since they all eventually go dirt cheap and you end up getting around 40 to 50 songs for less than $10 out of pocket.

Achievement or not the same songs get pick either way. I can't count the amount of times someone has picked Painkiller, Afterlife, or Panic Attack.

I tried out the Rock Band: Green Day demo, it really has the feel of the Beatles game in the menus and in the cinematics. The two songs are Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Welcome to Paradise.

My opinion hasn't changed about the game based on the demo, I'll import the songs while I rent the game from a local Family Video.

Is the demo only available to Gold members? Oh well, I can wait till it comes out.

I'm kind of surprised they'll add an instrument to 3. I bet it'll be a keytar with 5-6 keys. Hopefully this opens the floodgates for more new wave, industrial, electronica, Muse, and Keane. I talked about the possibility of this insturment with friends when the first one came out. Not a very good choice, as it limits what songs you can have in the game. It's still cool though. Although I guess some of the stuff on the store and RBN don't have vocals or bass, so it could work. It's gonna force songs in the setlists to have some kind of piano or keyboard part.

I wonder if they'll patch old songs like Foreplay/Long Time, Hand that Feeds, Cool for Cats + DLC to include the keytar/keyboard?

I just hope I don't have to buy anymore plastic instruments.
You will, and I bet the keytar will only initially come with the mega RB3 box set that'll be $300. I bet the keytar alone will be $80.

You're gonna need 2 hubs to play all these instruments if you use RB1 stuff. 2 guitars + 3 mics + drums + keytar :O
Hah. That "You All Everybody" song from lost is up on RBN.
LoL probably in the other/novelty section with all the Flight of the Concords songs.

Many are speculating that the game will support real keyboards (as opposed to a new type of controller). If so, the whole idea of RB3 supposedly teaching you to play a real instrument will finally make sense. I imagine the whole MIDI thing makes a keyboard much easier to incorporate into the game than any other "real" instrument (people always say "they should let you plug in a REAL GUITAR!!!!1" but I honestly have no idea how that would work as a game).

Maybe the keyboard tracks would have horizontal charts right under the vocals, using standard musical notation?

Wow! That would be really something. You would need a MIDI-->> USB cable for it though. That would be cheaper for me, because I already have a keyboard I don't use. I don't think this will be the case though, because it would be too tough to implement. You'd need hella space for a full band too. ;)
Keytar in Rock Band 3 + Keyboard fills for Overdrive = Keyboard Cat being played everytime Rock Band is played.
Confirmed.
Now that I think about it, there's no way they'd let you use a MIDI.

They've gotta make money on overpriced plastic instruments after all.
Harmonix has been trying to get out of the hardware scene though. Any new peripherals would be completely outsourced at this point. So theoretically, they have less to gain now from a new peripheral than they ever have.

My initial guess is that they'll do MIDI, but Madcatz or someone will put out RB-branded keyboards to go with the game. It will be handled like the microphones, where you can get one with a Rock Band 3 logo on it but a normal one will work just as well.[/conjecture]

I don't know if they're going to be able to convince people to buy new instruments. I wouldn't be shocked to see it be support for USB keyboards (and MIDI with USB adapter). And if so, that would rock. They could, of course, offer a cheap USB keyboard if you don't have one. Anyway, I hope it isn't a "keytar" and really is keyboard. My son is learning to play and this would be awesome to have in the game.

And I have to toss it out there, but thanks KaneRobot for constantly updating the title's and post. Especially compared to the original Rock Band thread where after launch it was never updated again.

That makes even less sense why they'd put keyboards in this game.

Anyone that doesn't want to get more plastic instruments doesn't have to get them. All you need is once instrument to justify the 60 dollar purchase to begin with. We did it for the first 3 Guitar Hero games; people still do it for singing games. With the possibility of 3 mics and now a guitar obviously some picking and choosing is going to be involved.

I will however blindly support the keytar/board because the next step is obviously a baller ass MUSE pack!!!!! That's what I saw when I saw that ebony and ivory logo. None of this piano man, Billy Joel bullshit. It's all about Matthew Bellamy, bitch!
