Rock Band series - Rock Band 4 out now

So I went on to Amazon to see if my copy of RB3 had arived to my shipping address and sure enough I never actually ordered it. I could have sworn I picked it up a while back. But I guess not. So it looks like I'll wait for the bogo sale at Target this weekend and score a copy then.

Also its a damn shame we lost Dani California in RB3. That was my go to song at parties, I've even belted that out at real karaoke bars. Ah well, bring on RHCP RB with an export key and I guess I'll be happy.
Anyone use wireless mics on RB3 yet? Any problems with them? I heard there was problems with RB2.
I prefer the wired mic instead. For some reason, I found the wireless mics don't work as well (outside of Lips itself), even after calibration, as the wired mic does. I have mic pickup issues not only with Rock Band but also Rapstar when using the wireless mics.

The new Rockband.com is up and it doesn't feel as good as the previous version. They are still working on getting it ready for you to link your account so I guess we wait and see how much data it actually sends to your account.

As for the Gamestop Preorder DLC, I had issues where it kept asking for me to try later. This morning after I got my RB2 export going (by the way it never prompt for the $10 fee... are we sure of the charge), I noticed that my code had been accepted; it just was sitting in the area of previous downloads where you actually start the download. So those that are having problems, you might just check under that section to see if the code was accepted, even when it told you that you had to try again later.

...on the website's full list of songs (now the "song finder"), they took away the column that lets you sort by date. So much for the easiest way to see all recent releases. What the fuck???

The more I think about it, the more bothered I am by the fact that "Dani California" and "Black Hole Sun" are no longer available in Rock Band 3. It sets a precedent where more and more songs may not be available in future versions of Rock Band. We already lost 5 songs from RB2 going to RB3. Does that mean we could lose even more or did they think to get them licensed for the Rock Band platform this time? What about the other songs we've already paid to export from the track packs, Lego Rock Band and Green Day? Could we lose any of them in the future? Speaking of Lego Rock Band, the "family friendly" Rock Band 1 songs were available to play there. It seems to me they had enough foresight to make most of the songs available for multiple versions of Rock Band back then so what happened with the two that are missing? Did it happen that Soundgarden and the RHCP had the right to pull their songs from future versions of the game? I hope HMX addresses this just so we all know exactly what we're paying for when we export tracks in the future.

That was one of my complaints quickly glancing at the new site. It is almost as bad as not have a sort in game by location. That is the sort I used the most in RB2. :bomb:

People, chill out.
It's not all said and done, these tracks will be probably coming back in future so we'll get them back and probably full fledged (with all the features).
Just enjoy new stuff and don't get hung up on setbacks.

I'm still waiting for the Rockbandocalypse where some DLC suddenly "expires" due to a "licensing issue" that was previously never disclosed to customers as a possibility.

Maybe, but there's no real reason to believe that. We never got back the RB1 songs that didn't make it to RB2. In fact, we lost more.

I really hope this isn't possible, but until HMX tells us straight up what we're paying for when we export tracks or buy DLC, we'll never know. I hope they address this, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think that exists as a possibility, but probably not since like buying a CD, once you own it you can't take it away.

The right to no longer be able to re-download it could be taken away though if they lose the right to re-distribute.

Or I could just be talking out of my ass...it's still early.

If you go here http://www.rockband.com/songs and scroll down to Latest DLC it has the RBN songs in order from newest to oldest, but it's a not a full list like the way it used to be. Still better than nothing I guess.

Remember, when they actually made RB2 they didn't even have the RB1 export figured out yet. It's not surprising that some licensing issues managed to slip through the cracks, even though they were very forward thinking in their approach.

Now that a precedent has been set and we've had a couple of retail games with day-1 export capability, I think they have disc licensing figured out. It's encouraging to see 100% of the Lego disc songs accounted for at least.

Something probably not a lot of people care about but if you're using Guitar Hero drums, the orange pad now acts as a another green pad.

I hope you're right, and you very well may be, but I'd like to have Harmonix address it. Just tell us exactly what's going on. The game's only been out a day so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here and hope they address the situation soon.

I'm not a huge Soundgarden fan, but Spoonman and Black Hole Sun were two of my favorites to play. I hope they come back as pro content.

For those of you wondering, despite the reviews, Rock Band 3 is a must buy for those of you who play these kinds of games. If you were waiting for something family friendly (and you didn't get GH5), this is your purchase. The drop in/drop out is just fantastic. I used to feel limited to one instrument per session (basically I play for a little while every night), but now I can switch instruments with my gamer profile with ease.

And keyboards not only gives the hardcore a new thing to learn, it gives novices, non-gamers, young kids, wives, etc a very easy way to join in.

Definitely a huge step from RB2 to RB3, much much bigger than RB to RB2.
Watching my band, sitting at a diner, deciding on the name "The Skin Flutes" was the best moment of my life.
You've got nothing on [)ongzilla.

The sad part is that we essentially paid twice for Dani California (which I don't care for anyway) and Black Hole Sun (which I do like). Once by buying RB1 and again with the export to RB2.

Despite the annoyances I am still really digging RB3 so far.

Is there like a master chart list of all the tracks so far? I really want to know what some of these charts look like before I play them, and they aren't all up on youtube, at least that I can find.

So I've been doing all the Pro keys training...and do you pretty much just play pro keys using one hand? It never sounds like you use both hands on the thing
So I've been doing all the Pro keys training...and do you pretty much just play pro keys using one hand? It never sounds like you use both hands on the thing
That's the impression I got. Playing the keys on the game for me is tough as I always lose finger placement, especially when you play harder than easy, and when you look down, you then miss a couple notes.

Is it just me or does it feel like expert guitar seems harder than expert guitar in RB1/2?

It is meant to be played with one hand. Lame, I know.

So I finally opened up my keyboard today. Let's just say that pro keys on medium (I can't stand playing on easy personally) kicking my ass is an understatement of the year candidate.

I am really only good at guitar or bass on medium, laugh at me I suck whatever, but in almost every song I have played they do throw in a few orange notes on medium now. first few times I was like wtf?

I play on hard a lot but just barely only 3 star most songs, medium is just easier and more fun for me

Pretty much agreed with everyone else here: pro keys can be played with two hands, but it appears their intent was to focus on playing with the right hand and using the left to activate expression and overdrive.

I'm a medium player too. I always say I would rather have fun playing at medium then being frustrated at hard/expert. But the orange being in medium songs started a little while ago with RBN and DLC.

What songs are you referring to? I've been breezing through the songs so far aside from Crazy Train and the Rainbow in the Dark. I will admit though, the RB3 songs have a lot of awkward parts and the HOPOs don't seem to register as well as they did in RB2.

Odd question.

I own RB2. I borrowed a friends copy of RB1 to do the import back then.

Today I bought RB3. I understand that I'll need the RB2 disc code. No problems there. Will I need a RB1 disc though to unlock those songs yet again? If so, would I be out a total of 1200 points?
No, once you export them, they'll always be available in RB2, RB3, and Lego Rock Band.
Oh. Thank God. I was dreading having to find another RB1 disc, then pay yet another 400 points to export again.

RB3 + keyboard in the house! Christ, I feel like I'm 10 miles behind most of you already. Firing it up in a minute.

Just saw on Testament's FB page something touting the Nuclear Blast artists on RBN...this was in the middle of it:

Soon to be added will be DIMMU BORGIR, SOILWORK, KATAKLYSM, and many more!

Yes. I think I mentioned a few pages back (but obviously this thread is moving quickly this week) - those exports aren't really exports to "games," they are exports to the hard drive (and in the case of RB2 & Green Day & Lego RB, downloads to the hard drive)

It's those awkward parts that kill me (Crazy Train was one of the songs I was going to list). I haven't had really any issue with HOPOs so far. Though, I have issues with the keyboard hitting the notes at times.

For fun, I did a no fail "Roundabout" on expert pro keys... yeah that is never happening for me haha

The MIDI attachment for RB3 isn't available for another month, is that right? I'd love to play the keyboard but couldn't see buying another plastic instrument when I have a very recently purchased full sized keyboard.

This is really pissing me off. Did they tighten up the timing for guitar hopos or something? Even on DLC songs I could consistently nail the hopos on, I now miss them more than hit. Anyone else having this issue, or might my calibration be off just enough that it screws it up?

Edit: My bad, apparently I just did a shit job of calibrating the first two times I tried. Just recalibrated a third time, and can green grass and high tides went fine :D Wow, that's embarrassing

Finally got a fucking copy of this game. If anyone wants to go for some of the achievements, just shoot me a message. Hopefully I can download my free songs without a hitch

Oh, and I didn't see it posted in the last couple of pages, but apparently the "exclusive" guitars from Best Buy and Amazon are just generic codes to be entered at the main menu. Here they are:

Amazon Guitar:

BLUE-ORANGE-ORANGE-BLUE-ORANGE-ORANGE-BLUE-BLUE

Best Buy Guitar:

Orange Blue Orange Orange Blue Blue Orange Blue

Finally got around to exporting RB2. Took me 5 hours and 7 minutes approx. to DL that huge file on 1.5M DSL!

For some odd reason after all the downloading between this game and Pinball FX 2, I'm not in the mood to play Rock Band 3 today lol.

Thanks for those guitar codes, lolwut.

My RB2 download wasn't too bad. About 45 minutes I think.

I'm incredibly annoyed with my RB3 Strat...yet again. Got the replacement for my first one on Monday (because the tilt sensor would go off randomly on my first one). Played with the replacement for about 20 minutes yesterday and it seemed better. Well, after putting an hour and a half into RB3, the replacement does the same fucking thing. I'm going to replace it once more but if it still does it, I guess I'll try the new GH guitar.

Keys are fun - I am starting on pro keys and sticking with it (on easy), unless there's some non-pro achievements I'll have to go back and get eventually. Obviously I suck right now but it's an awesome feeling to replay a song a few times and have noticable improvement each time. Just Like Heaven on pro/easy is a great intro to getting comfortable with the keys. This is the most I've been interested in a music game in a LONG time.

Need to get to bed shortly but I'll probably be on for a while tomorrow if anyone wants to play online...Halloween party on Friday night, but after that, this weekend will be all RB3.

I'd play online with you... but I don't have Live. I also have a halloween party on Fri., but there's an arcade auction EARLY sat. so I'll probably be napping most of the day Sat. :)

I have some problems with even easy standard keys. Some songs I 3 stars, others 5.

Here's something I found odd... My fiance and I were doing one of the Road Challenges where it gave us the option of a make-your-own 80's setlist. We figured, "Hell yes, it's time for a little Huey Lewis and the News!" However, when it pulled up the list of songs to pick from, 'The Power of Love' wasn't there.

We looked it up in quickplay later, and what I'm guessing happened is that since it's listed as coming from the greatest hits album, the release year reads "2006 (1985)", so it's counting the song as a 2006 song. I wish they'd fix that, because if any song could be considered a quintessential 80's song, it's 'The Power of Love'.

I used to play piano IRL, I wonder how pro keys will be when I finally break down and get this. Hopefully the holiday sales will have some nice...errr...sales.
Oh man, I hope we get some Meshuggah!
We already got "Bleed" on there incase you haven't seen it.

Plus holy crap I hope we get Dimmu Borgir with keys support.

Oh and fuck Antibodies! Jesus Christ. That song causes nothing pain and misery on bass, pro keys and pro drums.
