Rock Band series - Rock Band 4 out now
Is possible to upload pics of your band like in RB2?
I don't think so. Looks like they totally took that picture thing and merch and tossed it out the window. Hell, it would also appear that the twitter and facebook functionality are out too seeing as how I have linked my accounts and NEVER had an update posted nor have I seen them mention it.

The picture thing was great, the problem was it didn't really work that well very often and the merch problem was that 90+% of it looked like shit. They should have done more with the band Logos. I really wanted to get my band logo/name put on a shirt and then give it out as birthday gifts and shit.

Damn I really want to buy this set, I'm assuming if I wait long enough it would go on sale. I'm in no rush to buy this, but its a pretty decent set.

I like the take coming from guitar people instead of game people, I think it makes it more legitimate and I think their input is more relevant. After seeing that I want to consider getting it, but I want to first findout how stingy the game really is when hitting notes. I mean I imagine this dude in the vid can fucking shred and he can't keep his multiplier up for shit!

The reason for this is probably because most musicians have their own style for things. Surely, he can play the hell out of "Crazy Train", but he might not play it EXACTLY how the game expects him to. Even if he uses the exact fingerings, his timing might be different, he might sustain notes differently, etc. There's just no room for improvising. Think about it. The game is wanting him to be a carbon copy of Randy Rhoads.

I run into this problem a lot when singing. I might be used to singing a song the way I perform it, which isn't wrong or off key at all, but the game is charting the studio recording, so it doesn't score well. This is probably why it would be a drawback for people who already know how to play these songs as opposed to people just learning.

I wonder what they are going to do if we end up playing a song by someone who plays a five string guitar. Keef was talking in his book how Start Me Up is never going to be played right with six strings.

It's no problem, there just won't be any notes on the low E string.

The weirder thing is going to be the alternate tunings, if you don't retune the Squier to match the song you are playing then it's going to sound wrong unless you turn up the music extremely loud to drown out the sound of the strings.

Oh christ, here we go. Why am I not the least bit surprised? I hope they get this thing up and running before it becomes an endless stream of "postponed" announcements.

This morning:
Hey gang,

The launch of the RBN2 website, originally planned for this morning, has been postponed until, at least, late this afternoon. We’re working through some last-minute technical issues and will have another update for you later today.

Thank you for your patience.

A few minutes ago:
Just got an update from HMXMisterGame. The RBN2 launch has been postponed again until late tomorrow, at the earliest. We will keep you updated as soon as we have another estimate. More updates when things start moving forward!

Another RBN2 update...they "made progress" with some issues with Microsoft yesterday but at this point they don't have a specific launch date/time. Great.

One of the authoring groups explained what's going to happen when RBN2 is finally launched:

There's about 40 (give or take) RBN1.0 songs left to be released. The site is down now while it changes over to RBN2.0. What that means is RBN will now have the ability to chart keys, pro keys, harmonies...basically all the new RB3 features MINUS pro guitar and pro bass. I'm guessing that once the site comes back they'll push the button to release the last of the RBN1.0 material. After that there is going to be a period of three weeks or so while the new material goes through testing and review. So it's going to be a while before there's new tracks after this last batch gets released. Be aware that this last batch is the LAST of the RBN dlc that will work with RB2. When the 2.0 stuff starts coming out in a few weeks it will only work in RB3. So this batch of RBN1.0 dlc will officially be the last ever RB2 dlc.

Hope there are a couple of decent tracks in that glut of ~40 songs.

Next week:

Pat Benatar Pack

“Fire and Ice”
“Love is a Battlefield”
“Shadows of the Night”
“We Belong” X
“Invincible”
“Promises in the Dark”

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks for $1.99 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and $2.00 on Wii, and as “Pat Benatar Pack 01” on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii for $9.99. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song. For more information about Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrades, visit our support section. Rock Band 3 Pro Mode requires Rock Band Pro-compatible instrument controllers.

I'd like to thank Harmonix for saving me a lot of money lately...that Squier ain't gonna pay for itself!

You guys are high. I love me some Pat Benatar. Her husband is a great guitarist, so the songs are always really fun too.

Man, getting achievements in this game by yourself is next to impossible. I'm at 260/1250 and I don't think I can get many more.

I don't feel that way. The acheivements for the most part is what you buy... keyboard, pro guitar, pro bass, pro drums, dlc songs, etc. Outside the 1,000,000 point one, you really don't need anyone.
No Hell Is For Children? That's my favorite by her.
Seriously! I saw Pat Benetar in the title and I was like, "SWEET! They gotta've added Hell is for Children!" so surprised that they didn't.
Another pass unless I familiarize myself with the songs.
If you're not familiar with Love is a Battlefield or We Belong, you need to get out from under that rock a little more often, haha. ;)
About fucking time they released more of her stuff. Love is a Battlefield and We Belong are musts
Completely agree. Might pickup Invincible too just for the The Legend of Biilie Jean reference.
Another pass unless I familiarize myself with the songs.
How is it that you have ~10 years on me and consider yourself an 80's buff and don't know who Pat Benatar is?

We Belong is a popular track but I think will be extremely boring to play. That's just me.

So there's no way to assign a character to a specific instrument? Bummer. My daughter just spent an hour making her own character and she was really excited to sing with her but we couldn't get it to work... finally we put on some Paramore and it assigned her female character as the lead singer but it appears to be random...

Try messing around with it. I think there may be a method to the madness because all my stand-ins are females and typically they stay in same positions.

Next time I fire my game up I'll let you know what slots seem to correspond with what.

I think it does it completely at random. My stand-ins are 2 guys 2 girls. I have had two different people at drummer before and neither of those people were the singer.

As for your daughter, just have her create a xbl account and create her character under it then she can select them for everytime they play with their account. That's what I did for my fiance.

Don't even need to create a new account. All she has to do is press start and go to select characters. All the ones you've made will be at the top.

Not bad next week:

Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine pack

Terrible Lie
Head Like a Hole (X)
Sanctified
The Only Time

Terrible Lie is in there so I'm satisfied. Would have liked a few different tracks to round them out but obviously Head Like A Hole was going to be in there. Hopefully the full album shows up over time.

Also, here are the pro guitar/bass updates coming on 3/1:

Blink 182 - "Dammit"
Boston - "More Than A Feeling"
Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Bad Moon Rising"
Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Fortunate Son"
Eve 6 - "Inside Out"
The James Gang - "Funk #49"
The Knack - "My Sharona (Cover Version)"
Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Simple Man"
Metallica - "...And Justice for All"
The Offspring - "Self Esteem"
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble - "Pride and Joy"

* Creedence Clearwater Revival – “Fortunate Son (Original Version)”

* Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble – “Pride and Joy”

EDIT: dammit KaneRobot, beaten by seconds!

Glad to see them start to push though some back catalog pro updates. My confidence in a potential purchase of the Squier was getting pretty weak there for a while, but if we get a few months of updates like that it'll do a lot of good.
Are the pro updates free for songs you've already purchased?
NO. in fact they aren't even available unless you've purchased the original version.
NO. in fact they aren't even available unless you've purchased the original version.
Boo!!! $1/80 points is all I'd consider paying for something like that.

How many of you have the pro guitar or are planning to get the Fender? I thought I really wanted a pro guitar but I'm not so sure - it is expensive. I think I'd want the real one if I could pick but I wonder how it actually works with the game - I'm skeptical that it will be 100% accurate...

I know Pat Benitar, but would have to listen to the songs to recognize them.

Is the Pretty Hate Machine a pack or individually? I'm down for all the songs. Great album. Industrial is always fun on keyboard. They should've done the whole album. That's one of the few whole albums I'd buy that has a reasonable chance of being released as a full album DL.

Edit: When I say '80s, I'm looking at 80s new wave. Of course I recognize We Belong.

That's how much the pro upgrade is per song.

I'm strongly considering the Squier...just want to see feedback from guinea pigs first before I drop the money on it.

Both, like usual. OP always has the info if the more recent posts don't.

The Only Time
Though this announcement gives me a raging boner, I can't help but wonder where the hell Sin and That's What I Get are. I've been dying to play drums on Head Like a Hole for the absolute longest time.

Time to sing about how the devil wants to fuck me in the back of his car.

And I'd rather have stuff from The Fragile. The Fragile never gets any love.

Wow, buying the NIN pack and a bunch of the Pro upgrades!

It's cool when a song comes out that I already know how to play (And Justice For All...).

Hoping for some Iron Maiden upgrades sometime.

Might be my least favorite NIN album, but I'll get it all anyway. The Only Time is kind of an odd choice, though. Great to see that they didn't forget all about RB after those last packs.

Yeah, I wanted Sin if they were going to do stuff from this album. As dull/useless as it would be for several instruments, I sort of wanted Something I Can Never Have as well. It figures, they finally do a week with a minimal amount of content from an album, and it's one I actually want a bunch of stuff from.

I guess we're all over the map here opinion-wise, but if I could only have one NIN album it would probably be the Broken EP, mostly for Wish and the cover of Physical. That said, we did get one of the best songs off of it (Last) so I'm not going to bitch about it.

I Would give Harmonix so much props for having a song where one of the lyrics is "FISTfuck!" Even if it was censored. That or if they were to let "I'll heal your wounds. I'll set you free. I'm Jesus Christ on ecstasy" completely unnoticed then I'd consider them game developer of the forever.

This dude got the Squier and took a bunch of pics:

http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33103

Some of his comments don't fill me with confidence, but I'm not passing judgement yet, and overall it doesn't sound too bad (obviously these are early impressions only). Someone asked him about his overall impressions, as well as his thoughts on the Mustang Pro vs. the Squier Pro:

So I only have limited experience with the Mustang that consists of about an hour and a half of playing on one at the same Best Buy that I got the guitar from. I will say that the Mustang is definitely easier to play accurately on. I had a couple issues of frets not being detected correctly (I was playing a Cm chord in 3rd position on the A string (x35543), and it kept thinking that I was fretting the 3rd fret of the B string instead of the 4th fret for a little while), and a few times it thought I was fretting the 1st fret of the high e string when I wasn't even touching the fretboard, but otherwise the fret detection has been pretty good.

However, I did find the strum detection to be a little quirky. I had to strum a lot harder than I am used to strumming for it to register in steady strumming parts. For example, it took me a long time to complete the lesson for Yoshimi due to dropped strums. However, I found that I had to recalibrate for the MIDI adapter since it is wired and thus has less lag than my wireless instruments, so that was probably a factor, though even after recalibrating, I did find I needed to strum pretty hard in parts like that (though I also still am not 100% satisfied with the new calibration yet). For single notes or stuff that was spaced out pretty far, my regular strumming strength was sufficient for the most part. I did have some issues getting the high e string to register at times, but that was before recalibrating so I don't know if it was the calibration or the guitar. For reference, when I played on the Mustang and sightread I Wanna Be Sedated, I got 5* and I think 98%. When I played it for the first time on the Squier, I got 4* and 94%.

Another thing: in the FAQ, it says that you need to use the string mute or you will lose points. I found this to be pretty true. If you don't use the mute, when you strum a string and let it ring out (or even sometimes even if you didn't let it ring out), the game would detect the vibrations as multiple strums, thus breaking your combo. However, it was really fun to load up songs in practice mode, disengage the string mute, and plug the guitar into an amp to play along with the chart. Really fun.

So is there an easy way to share RB songs with a friend that we have previously downloaded. One of my buddies recently got a 360 and he's already downloaded about 50 songs - can we share? The goal would be just to have his songs on my HDD that I can access and play any time I want (and vice versa). We are both Gold members if that means anything...

This is the only way to do it.
