I don't think there's a solo career, so in theory you could do the first half of the game on guitar, and the second half on drums, and still technically beat the world tour. Also if it's anything like the first world tour, you can change the difficulty at any time too.

There's no Solo career from what I understand. They just made World Tour for 1-4 players and you can have characters created for other instruments stand in, replacing the lame generic characters the first game put under AI control on stage.

Oh, I see. So you don't actually need a second player to get all the Band World Tour achievements. That's an interesting change.

I hope they changed the way the tour works, so you're not playing the same song over and over.

I remember reading something about how they said the same songs wouldnt come up as frequently, and you DLC will be mixed in more now to get a wider sample of music..... Thank God

I really hope they haven't ousted single player. I liked keeping tack of personal high scores and gold starred songs. I wished if anything they would offer up a list for the bass so you could keep track of those gold stars and scores as well.

If this really is the case, I think it's a problem. I don't have much of an interest in going through world tour by myself. By no means a deal breaker, but this sounds kind of lame.

Lead Designer Dan Teasdale has stuff on new RB2 features up on his blog.

I completely agree. Band World Tour in RB1 was really extensive, and you had to play a shitload of songs. If there really isn't a mode where you just play each song once, like there has been in RB1 and all the GH games, that's kind of lame.

It kinda makes sense that they differentiate the two; the career mode of pretty much every guitar game to this point has been very similar to the quickplay menu, except you unlock new songs by playing existing ones. Once you finish that, it really doesn't matter which mode you pick unless character selection is important to you. Ideally, they'd let you unlock songs through quickplay OR world tour in RB2, and let you complete the list whichever way you want, not unlike how Super Smash Bros Brawl's unlocking was done.
I'd say second to You're Gonna Go Far (kid). Also love Stuff is Messed Up, Nothingtown & Half-Truism.
I know I'm late on this, but I heard the You're Gonna Go Far on the radio today, and instead of saying "now dance fucker dance", it just says "dance dance dance". I LOL'ed.

Praise Whedon. If I had to sing "Maps" or "Gimme Shelter" fifty-gazillion times again, my head would asplode.
Has there been any newer info about playing the RB1 songs in this? I'm tempted to sell the Rock Band game only while I can still get something for it.
For a fee of less then $5 you can transfer some of the Rock Band 1 songs into your hard drive to be used in Rock Band 2. This will come in the form of a Rock Band 1 update to make this happen and you don't have to own the game. You can merely borrow or rent Rock Band 1 to transfer those tracks over. Thank God I have an Elite...

Drum trainer sounds nice. I'm sure I'll still stink at it though.

I really want the new guitar (auto calibration tool = awesome), but the Kotaku thing said nothing about the strum bar being improved. If it's still mushy, I guess I'll have to pass on it...which sucks, because I love it besides the weak strum bar. I've had nothing but problems with my GH3 Les Paul.

I have become incredibly partial to the X-plorer ever since I played with the Les Paul and the Stratocaster. The stratocaster's clickless strummer, neck, clicky buttons, and bothersome whammy (it's contour causes it to get in the way and causes me to hit the stupid effect switch) are all things I consider problems. The clickless strummer is probably my biggest gripe as the clicking really helps me keep beat.

The Les Paul's buttons don't go in far enough, and the thicker neck causes my hand to get tired faster. It also seems to drop on notes that you hold sometimes which is annoying to the Nth degree.

I do find the Les Paul to be a more viable option than the Strat though.

X-plorer all the way! :bouncy:

Really? That's lame as hell. I thought for certain it would be 'dance sucker dance' which makes more sense. Somebody dropped the ball on that one.

Maybe I'm going nuts here, but when I heard it they said, "Dance, ____er, dance."
I just traded in Rock Band yesterday and now the Rush DLC is coming out? This sucks.
I think the first question would be why you traded in in the first place.

This

And anybody else hear that Ace of Spades for the game is a new recording for Rock Band?
Maybe I'm going nuts here, but when I heard it they said, "Dance, ____er, dance."
So they just muted the word? Either way is pretty weak when you consider how easily and natural "sucker" fits in its place.

So I can get the Rock Band 2 bundle. I wanted to sell it before the price plummets.

Hmm. Had no idea the Rock Band 2 drums were being released separately on September 8th, before the game only is released a few days later.
I thought they were being released later this year, but I think that's just the bundle.

So Rock Band 2 official release date is Sept 14 which is a Sunday. Any Gamestop/Gamecrazy employees here able to confirm a Saturday night midnight launch? :)

This is kinda relevant, but not sure what it means. If you go to the dashboard and downloads and look through all games there is a listing for rock band 2 and when you click on it there is one thing to download, "Still Alive".

It's going to take awhile for the price to plummet. I think there is a better chance of the price increasing short term than decreasing. There are not a lot of rental copies out there and everyone new to the game is going to be looking for a copy.

does anyone know if Rock Band (first one) will play with Guitar Hero 4 instruments??

i'll be getting GH4 full bundle, and RB2 game only - which was confirmed to be compatible, but nothing was mentioned about RB1.

why would u play RB1 after getting 2 when u can put all your RB1 songs on the new game?

you mean the DLC - yeah, i'll get those, but I can buy RB1 for like $10 and get almost 60 songs that are on that disc.
Edit: I just read somewhere that I will be able to store the RB1 songs on hardrive - but it'll cost up to $5 to transfer them, did anyone hear about that?

No, I think he means you can move many of the tracks that are on disc on to your HD to play on RB2. Pretty sweet huh!?

i am still mad the bundle comes out a month later... i guess i will buy the game only and when the bundle comes out either sell the sealed one in the bundle, or return it with the first game i buy's receipt... that's not "wrong" right?
Won't the one from the bundle be labeled "not for resale"?
The game that came in Rock band bundle has nothing like that on it. It looks just like a stand alone copy. Who knows about the 2nd game though.

How about finishing world tour and going for achievements?

We wanted to solve the problem of people getting stuck on one song and not progressing (Freyaism/Reaperism). Just because I suck on one song out of 84 doesn't mean I'm not good enough to play the final songs.

lol,that's pretty cool

Nice to see that there in fact will be a single player game, but I am still curious about how I will keep track of scores and gold starred songs.

EDIT: I added KaneRobot's info he linked to the front page.
