Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Only bundle I remember getting a strap was the Guitar bundle. And that strap wasn't all that great. The Ernie Ball strap that you can get at BB for $5-6 would be better. But something much stronger and durable would be those Dunlop straps that were recommended way back at the beginning of the thread. Think those still go $10-15 each.

Like Crazed said, run the RS cable from your console/PC to whatever wireless unit you have.

In my case I use the WMS 40 pro mini. Never had problems and the battery lasts forever. Still rocking the same AA in mine, a year later.
I've never used a wireless unit before. I have ruined a few coily cables though. I should have looked into this a long time ago.

I use a padded Levy's strap. It is a bit on the expensive side, but it is really comfortable.

Kind of bummed that Clapton and Cream don't carry over. He's one of my favorite guitarists. In fact I was hoping we'd get some more Clapton this time around but I guess he's not cool with the game anymore for some reason.

Planning on picking this up tomorrow. No stores are offering any deals on it?

None. Keep in mind that the cable free version (if you already have RS), can ONLY be found at Gamestop.

If you DON'T already have Rocksmith 1, a used copy at BB is 4.99 OR, if you can find a copy at Target or Wal-Mart, you can get the cable and RS1 for $20... When you buy the upgrade pack, you'll get all 50+ RS1 songs in RS2014 - and will have spent no more for your disc copies and cable than someone that bought the cabled version of RS2014...

I don't know if you already play RS or not...

The way to go right now for that is to join gamers club, if you haven't already, and then order online from BB and get either the PS3 or Xbox 360 version with cable for $10 bucks. This is the free gamers club and you can still join that even through all the nonsense with GCU going on. Then you get the game, the cable, and the import pack for $20 total. Add in the non-cabled version for $60 and you have an extra game, all the songs but 5 on 2014 and the cable for the same $80. All new, no need for used. Doesn't work for PC though, sorry.

The used 360 version is 4.99, the used PS3 version is 9.99. YMMV on availability, neither ship. The nearest Xbox one to me is 30 minutes away, but the nearest PS3 one is 3 hours away. Both are available for shipping for the $10 new online with the Gamers Club membership until 10/26 i think.

Did a quick check and you can also do in-store purchase, assuming your local store has any in stock.

Just need to print the coupon off the MY BB website https://my.bestbuy.com/

Offer expires on 10/26/13, so you still got a chance to get it for $10

Oh shit... Forgot about that $10 version from BB. Yeah - that's a FAR superior way to go. I keep thinking I may order another copy... Why not have 4 cables, right? Hell, I have 22 extra sets of electric strings. :)

Would you like a free coaster with your cable?

Even though I baby my cable (1st one from the 1st version of the game), I also have 2 backups: one sealed and one that I bust out for multiplayer.

Rocksmith has gotten so far under my skin that I don't ever want to be in a position where I can't play it. So might as well stock up now when they're cheap and easy to find.

Can you imagine Samba de Amigo without the Maracas? How 'bout Steel Battalion without that monster controller? :cold: (shudders from the kinect version).

I'm trying to play 1.5 to 2 hours a night. Really, I just have to make myself turn it off at 11 PM. 2014 is SO. DAMN. GOOD.

I actually like NOT having events to play. I'm trying to concentrate on learning individual songs and getting better and better on them.

So, I'm dealing with a bit of a dilemma  tonight as I received the cable-less copy of Rocksmith 2014 tonight, but am very close to taking it back and getting the cable version along with ordering the Schecter Blood Moon at Best Buy.

I'm just torn between sticking with my Dean Vendetta XM from a few years ago, or upgrading the guitar (and getting the new version of the game for $30.)

Grrr....

Thanks for the reaffirmation on the cables and wireless suggestion. I found out today that our local Sam's Club has many dozens of copies of RS, guess I should clean them all out, I'll be set for life! $5 for RS vanilla, with cable. I'm just getting on board with this, after picking up that $10 version x2 for the cables before hearing about the $50 off deal. I am having a great time. Now I just need to shop around for a guitar. I have a near-death strat that I got for free, but it's good for now.

Man, what a crappy day.  I had one bad thing after another happen, and I decided I would play a little bass to take my mind off of things.  I went to tune my Washburn and *plink!*... and I don't have any extra bass strings either. :censored:  I have a TON of electric guitar strings, though...

hmmm, you could the deal and try it out (the new guitar) and then sell either one...

the Schec would probably sell for a quick $75 on craigs...

Woot!!! Fully leveled "Pour Some Sugar on Me" tonight (and without the leveler bug, which I kind of miss) and then played it and got 89.5%... Cross 1 song off of my guitar bucket list. :) I'll keep on working to 100%, but I'm pretty happy with that.

Make sure you check to see if you still have your $5 customer appreciation coupon that expires on the 28th. I was able to get Rocksmith for $5.38 earlier today by using the $20 & $5 coupons together.

Grrr....
The side of me that has bought too many guitars says... Dooo Eeet! :bouncy:

It's only money and you deserve it :)

The other part of me says hold off if you're lusting after something else. Save the dough and put towards the one you really want.

Man, what a crappy day. I had one bad thing after another happen, and I decided I would play a little bass to take my mind off of things. I went to tune my Washburn and *plink!*... and I don't have any extra bass strings either. :censored: I have a TON of electric guitar strings, though...
Whaaa... bass strings are s'pose to be indestructible ;)

Sucks man. Never would even think of having extras around.

Woot!!! Fully leveled "Pour Some Sugar on Me" tonight (and without the leveler bug, which I kind of miss) and then played it and got 89.5%... Cross 1 song off of my guitar bucket list. :) I'll keep on working to 100%, but I'm pretty happy with that.
Congrats!

Never thought I'd say this but I miss the old tuner (not the tuning before each song part tho). New tuner is twitchy like a junkie.

LOVE the endless playlist; just keep playing without having to go into the menu system.

And as phony as it may have been, I'm missing the crowds. You knew you were on a roll when they started busting out their moves.

Just ordered with free shipping for ~5.30 thanks to that coupon. And here I didn't think I'd have anything to use it on :D

Always good to have a backup cable, and now I have RS1 on 360 just for shits (I play on PC).

I am a dumb ass. I should have ordered Rocksmith for the 360 because I already had it for PS3. I guess I can switch it when it arrives.

Do the songs from the 2012 Best Buy version of Rocksmith import into 2014 Rocksmith ok?  The reason I ask is that I know there were problems with the saves being used on the regular 2012 version and was wondering of any possible conflicts.

Worked just fine for me on PS3. BB version was the only version I've used and imported in RS13 before doing much else.

Picked this up today. Like others have said, BBY only has the cable version so I had to make a trip to GS to pick up the normal copy. I even got the Cherub Rock code with it (had to ask for it).

My thoughts on the game:

Definitely a step up from the previous one. I love how quick the menus are now. It was such a chore how long you had to wait for everything to load in the original and how buried everything was. Now it jumps right to the action. Admittedly I haven't played my guitar in quite some time so it was a rough start, but I saw a lot of progress in just the 3 or 4 hours I played. That's a pretty good testament to what this game can do for you. Haven't even tried the guitarcade stuff yet but I'll play some of that tomorrow.

I do have some gripes though.. I feel like the game missed a huge opportunity to add in some fun modes to keep you more interested. They've really gone full out on the whole "it's a teaching tool" ideology to the point where everything is centered around that and it's a little too simplistic. It should have offered some type of "tour" mode where you can set up a fictional character or band and go on tour to different venues and pretend you're playing shows. Would've been a lot of fun to encourage people to get better and actually feel like they're a real guitarist in a band.

I also would've loved to see a "setlist" mode kind of like Guitar Hero has always had. It's pretty simple.. you choose exactly which songs you want to perform, you choose the venue, you choose the encores, and you play. Endless Mode does sort of make up for it but it doesn't quite feel like you're setting up a setlist and doing a show. It feels like you're just in the "learn a song" mode except without having to menu surf.

Anyway, overall I'm enjoying it. Nothing like a fun game that actually teaches you a real skill. I was looking at some videos of BandFuse last night and I can't for the likes of me figure out how they actually expect anyone to learn guitar using that. It's basically a full-speed run-through of tabs. I don't know about you guys but reading tabs is not very easily done when the numbers are zooming past you like that. It has no graphical user interface advantage at all to Rocksmith. If you're looking to learn guitar then you should definitely get this game over that one.

Oh, another thing I forgot to mention.. the tuning in this game is a little wonky. It can definitely get a little tedious when it has you making minute adjustments to get something in tune, and then when it checks the tune again it tells you it's out of tune. And on top of that, it can become really tedious when different songs require different tuning and you have to change it over and over again before playing. I hope they at least change the sensitivity in a patch.

PS: Do you guys think that import fee will ever get a price drop in the future? Or is it always going to stay at $10? I'm curious because Black Friday is just around the corner and if Live/PSN decide to do a sale on it I can hold off on the songs until then.

Well, the bass add-on finally got a price drop about a year or so later. Given the time it took for any of the dlc of the last gameto get a proper sale, I'd say it's probably worth just doing right away.

I suppose you're right. I'm gonna just hold out for some DLC pricedrops first though because there's some songs I want from there. Maybe I'll import the old songs once I get tired of these.

I will check in a bit to see but even if it is not the only way piece meal would be way expensive without a sale. I have never bought anything on PSN until now. . .

Is buying the original Rocksmith the only way to get the songs it came with, and it's DLC, or can y buy it's songs for 2014 piecemeal?
The ON DISK RS1 songs, yes. The $10 package gets you the original RS1 songs - and it's the only way to move them in to RS2014.

The DLC from RS1 automatically comes over to RS 2014. You can still buy the DLC, as well. They have all been reworked for RS2014.

Cool, thanks guys. I'm getting the guitar on Monday and the game on Wednesday :( The wait is driving me NUTS!!

I know, first world problem :)

Do you already have RS1? If not, you should get in on the best buy deal. $10 gets you a cable and then you can do the $10 upgrade in game to get the RS1 songs in RS2014.

Remember to keep in mind, that there's 5 songs that won't export.  None of them are really "ERR MERRR GERRRD NOOOO" caliber to me, but I'd have liked to have Cream in 2014.  Oh well, really wanted RHCP to transfer, and it did, so hell yes to that.

Couldn't find the new DLC post (sorry whoever put it up 1st).  So here's what got released alongside RS2014 (borrowed from riffrepeater's site)

EDIT:

Quick reminder, today's the last day to get in on the $10 BestBuy deal for the old RS game.

Cheap way to have an extra cable AND to get a bunch of songs to transfer into the NEW game.

I thought about getting another copy of RS1... I had $10 of BB RZ certs. I ended up buying the new Def Leppard Blu Ray/CD combo pack of "Viva Hysteria!". Money well spent. I love DL - and "Hysteria" was probably the most influential CD during my teen years.

I worked through a nonstop play run last night for a while. Gonna go back tonight and try to clean up "Pour Some Sugar on Me" tonight.

Can't wait to see what DLC is Tuesday, but I obviously have plenty to work on, so I won't be butthurt if it's something I hate.

MF has strings for $1.99 a pair today (at least):

I went to Guitar Center now looking for a guitar deal...and impulse-bought some great gear at a steal! After just a few days with RS this week I know it's not a mistake. For me - Schecter Riot6, $80 clearance!, DMS70 Dual Wireless System, $150 clearance! (Thinking of going back for another, or 2, because that's just crazy!), For wife, Dean Vendetta 1000, , $109 clearance! Throw in a few straps/picks/free strings, and out the door for less than original price of any of them, with good reviews all around. Our nights will forever be louder. Tonight was all tuning and learning about them, the floyd rose bridge is neat, and was fun as well.

Congrats on the haul & the cool wife :)

Just curious about something.. could use a little clarification. Are they releasing new DLC songs on Tuesday? Or are they doing another batch of songs on sale like they've been doing in the past? Or maybe both? I was looking to buy some new tunes but the prices are a bit much. No self respecting "cheap ass gamer" wants to spend 3 bucks per song.

New DLC on Tuesday, supposedly. I doubt you will see the sale continue, now that 2014 is out. Eventually you may get some packs, but it'll be a while, as they try to recoup some dev cost from DLC sales.

I know I'm jumping the gun, as I haven't even gotten the guitar or game yet, but what all would I need to play without the game? I know I'd at least need an amp. Anything else?

Thanks for any feedback.
