Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:
>>guitar advice, initial posts #26, 34, 35
>>guitar accessories, initial posts #49, 51, 56

This should help get you started.

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

I've been playing this game for a few months now and love it! I don't love my sound quality through my TV however. I'm thinking about investing in some headphones and was wondering if anyone could actually recommend getting the Turtle Beach brand headsets? I'd love any and all opinions please!

I love my X12 headset. Much more comfortable than my PX21. If you have a PS3, just get the usb sound card so you can use the mic on the PS3. I tend to just use my TV speakers so I don't have to have the cable running along with my guitar cable.

Whoops, guess I should have mentioned I'm playing on a 360.

Then the X12 is the perfect TB wired headset. Too bad you missed out on TRU offering them for $30. You probably would prefer the X31 or X41 if you have the cash to go wireless.

Check the Amazon Warehouse thread for deals on headsets.
Just remembered I wanted to comment on this. I LOVE Ibanez electrics for one reason: Wizard II neck. I picked up an RG2EX1 (which also comes in white) a couple years ago for basically that reason alone. I have small hands, so playing barre chords for extended periods of time really starts to cramp my hand up bad. The Wizard II neck is thinner and flat, making it a lot more comfortable to play than the rounded, stockier necks most Gibson/Fender/etc. guitars have.

Here's a link to the RG2EX1 for anyone who's curious.
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-RG2EX1-Electric-Guitar-103382123-i1168029.gc
Oh man that is pretty nice! I want to bite on a guitar, but oh somehow my wallet and conscience are holding me back.

Alright, thanks! Two more questions though. Approx how long is cord? And I'm guessing it's connected to the 360 and not the TV, correct?

Few random deals today.
First Bestbuy online has a "Buy 3, Get 1 Free on musical instrument accessories"
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat264300050008&type=category
Good way to experiment with different strings or other stuff

Next, Guitar Center has a new sale going thru 2/14. Save $20 off 99, $50 off 299, $100 of 599
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Promos/ClaimDiscountCoupon.aspx?pid=4690
Separately, they have a weekly, in-store only, deal. Get the Acoustic G20 20w combo amp for $49.99, in-store
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Big-Cool-Deal-g25903t0.gc

But if you'd rather go big on an amp purchase, the check out the Stupid Deal of the Day. Get the Jet City tube combo amp for $299
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/stupid/?icid=111130_001_hpsh3_pd

And to follow-up on the Pearl Jam DLC, it IS only 2 songs. No third song this week. There's a thread on the Rocksmith forums explaining why:
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/658921-Nao-Higo-quote-on-why-only-2-PJ-tracks-for-weekly-DLC?
GS has Rocksmith PS3 or 360 for $49.99. Anyone see a difference whether one version's better than the other?
Thanks for the heads up. I'll update the OP
360 http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-360/games/rocksmith/90995

PS3 http://www.gamestop.com/ps3/games/rocksmith/90994
***currently sold out online

I have it on the 360 and haven't had any problems with it (I'm at Rank 7, over 6 mil in points). The PS3 version seems to be buggier (game crashes during certain later events). But the recent update was suppose to fix alot of those problems

Can confirm good in MOST stores probably . The store I went to
(and called first) confirmed quickly yes its 50. The way the clerk told me it seemed like a permanent price drop but I doubt it.

Also a while back a different gamestop had and employee be mighty dickish to me when assassins creed used dropped to 5 so YMMV but still worth a quick call

Today's Stupid Deal of the Day is for the Rogue G5 portable amp @ $20
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/stupid/?icid=111130_001_hpsh3_pd

And Sam Ash has a Mystery Valentine's Day sale, good 'til 2/14. Problem is you have to add an item to your cart to see if it's on sale.
Can confirm good in MOST stores probably

RS is in the B&M as for GS this week as $30 off, so it's a good time to pick it up if you've been on the fence about it.
Thanks for the confirmation. Updated title

Funny story.

My friend's girl friend emailed me asking me to find out what kind of food dehydrator he wants for his birthday. She didn't want him to know she was going to get it for him. I said ok, I'll act like I want one and want his opinion, afterall, we've talked about it a few times and I did say I wanted one. She said "SWEET!" and then it hit me like a ton of bricks. WAIT! He wants Rocksmith way more than a dehydrator, you should get him that instead. I linked her to the $50 on GS. She said she forgot about it and said thanks for the link. She is getting him Rocksmith. 10 minutes later, he walks up to me and says "hey, I just texted my GF that she should totally get me Rocksmith for Valentines day."

Oh boy, did I try to hide the grin I had, instead all I said was "SWEET" haha. So funny... to me at least.

Hmmm:whistle2:k food dehydrator or Rocksmith.
Decisions, decisions;)
Crap, I finally jumped on this on Tuesday and the next day it goes on sale $30 cheaper.

FML.
Price match it. I bought a new console from them on a Saturday, and on Wednesday they added a $100 giftcard. Went back and got it too.

Think I might finally bite since it sounds like they fixed the bugs and an electric acoustic will work. I've gotten stuck trying to teach my self, so this should really help and it seems like fun as well.

Does anyone still sell the guitar bundle? I can't find it online, and the only store near me that has it was Walmart, but they had it for the PS3 (looking for Xbox 360).

I waited back during the holiday sales, but this is getting hard to resist. GC has that Dean XMT on sale again, too - didn't a bunch of you guys pick that up a few months ago? Thoughts?

Are you talking about the PS3 version? Because I read through the Ubisoft Rocksmith forum and there's still bugs but not as bad as before. So I think the consensus is the PS3 version is better but not exactly the same as 360. I'm still debating on which one myself. Does the gamesave go to the cloud on either system?

I ordered one last week but they sent me a backorder email about 1hr after ordering.

Try not to get too hung up on buying the bundle. Especially right now with the sales going on.

For example, Guitarcenter has the exact same Les Paul jr for $120 and Amazon has the TV yellow model for $120. Then there's the game at 50 bucks and about another 20 bucks for a strap and picks(read posts 49, 51, 56 for advice on accessories). In the end you spend 190 instead of 200

But separate will also let you choose other guitars. There's the Dean XMT, which qualifies for the $20 coupon at Guitar center (so 80 or 120 depending on the color). There's the Les Paul Special I for 130 or the Special II at 150

Good, solid choice. Especially since the satin natural model is priced at 100.
It's easier to play than the LP jr and better equipped too. But for me, the neck was too thin. My hand would start to cramp on the higher difficulty versions of songs; chord heavy songs. So I naturally gravitated towards the LP jr with its thicker neck. But that's about personal choice

Some may find this helpful, even though it's not a Rocksmith deal

Hellomusic.com has the You Rock midi guitar/controller on sale for $150 and you should also save another 25 bucks if you're signing up for the first time

You Rock guitar is compatible with pro mode in RB3

I went for it finally. I figure it's about the cheapest entry point I can get now...here's hoping I give it a real shot. I listen to so much guitar-driven music that it'd be nice to follow along now and again :]

Sorry I am late to the party but what are the current guitar deals to use with RS.
Went back a few pages but couldn't make out much. Specifically looking for models(within $150-300) that someone has tried & worked well

Not sure if this has been asked but I'm curious to know if the game supports lefties? Also which guitar would be a good beginner choice for a lefty?

Definitely supports lefties. Been loving it as a lefty personally.

That being said, finding lefty guitars sucks. I found a Squier Strat lefty at Guitar Center for about $160 with a coupon they had that has been treating me nice, but it's not on their site anymore...

Musiciansfriend--> 14%off one item 299+
Amazon--> select models on sale with an additional 15%off (mostly AXL guitars)

As for recommendations, I dug up an early post by smileymcsmiles to help ya out

Here's 7 pages of various axes in your price range.

Also keep in mind what guitar model you will feel comfortable with. Strat style bodies are typically best suited for beginners for many reasons. One, they are perfectly shaped to play sitting down on your lap that provides the ideal angle of the neck/fretboard for proper hand positioning...providing less hand strain.

Les Paul style bodies are a little heavier than strats (causing some neck strain after prolonged periods of playing while standing using a strap for beginners) and also feel a little less comfortable while playing sitting down...but nothing too bad. You just get used to it after a while. They're heavier due to the style of body and the wood used for both the body and neck (usually mahogany). But you get fuller and fatter tones from these.

IMO...It's best for beginners to use a strat style model. They are comfortable as well as versatile for no matter what genre of music floats your boat. IMO, at this price range, check out Ibanez guitars, especially the RGG321. It has a fixed bridge (no tremolo) but that's a plus, especially for beginners.

Tremolos, especially licensed Floyd Rose variants (non-official Floyd Rose tremolo systems) can be a pain in the ass for newcomers to setup after any string changes. You want to focus on a solid guitar that will stay in tune after initial setup and intonation tweaks. The less technical issues you need to worry about, the better. At least for now.

I also highly recommend ESP's and Deans...

There's alot of advice early in the life of the thread, so head over to the OP for some other helpful posts

Like Austen already said, there IS a lefty mode. IIRC, it's one of the questions the game will ask you during initial start-up.

Thing is, you'll find guitar selection more limited and lefty guitars are usually priced higher than their righty twin.

If you want to find lower priced lefty models, try checking Rondo music. I have some links in the OP that you can use to see if they're worth your time and money.

Good luck guys

Anyone else purchase Jeremy and notice it's not censored? I was really surprised by it. I wish Rock Band would allow the same.

Amazon still has the
iconps3.gif
version @ $50, but the
iconxbox360.gif
is 80.
Gamestop sale is DEAD. Both versions are $80

But Musicians Friend and Guitar Center are running 15% off sales. MF is 15%off an item 199+ and GC is 15%off an item 299+
Actually after going thorugh online reviews, I am very strongly considering this one

Seems nice. Since you're looking in that price range take a look at these
http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/search.aspx?si=&sp=jay+turser
Found the deal at another site. These are mahogany body with set necks instead of basswood body with bolt-on necks. Reviews were also pretty good, though they were for the regular JT-220. Don't have first-hand experience with either the ESP or JT

Yeah, don't mind it. But still surprised

Game arrived yesterday and I am impressed! This is the kind of game I've been waiting for since Guitar Hero was first released and my first hour of play was great. The difficulty seems about right since I can always play most of a song well with one or two phrases confusing the heck out of me. Love when I finally manage to nail a phrase I've been having so much trouble with. Looking forward to seeing how the game is at the chord levels.

Anybody know anything about the guitar? Quick searches seem to show positive reviews.
Those Starcaster by Fender guitars are a budget entry line meant for sale in big box stores like Walmart, Target, Costco, etc; built for cheap, poor in quality. Sorta like the Maestro by Gibson line

You're better off spending the 80 bucks on a Dean XMT. Much better build and parts. The Guitar Center sale of 20 off is over, but I can tell you it's popped up plenty of times since the start of the thread. Very likely it'll show up again.

But hey, you gotta buy and play it. No purchase is worth it if you don't have a desire to pick it up. Gotta buy what you like:)

Funny thing about that the Dean XMT satin finish. I ordered a week ago and was backordered to ship on Monday. Now so many have been backordered, they're not shipping until 4/27. Hope mine is one of the first orders.
