I really wanna get ToV, but I will mos def wait for a cheaper price. Still looks fuckin' gorgeous, though.

Crisis Core was bad-ass. Lack of maps was disappointing, but still, bad-ass game. Optional hidden boss was a nice challenge, too.

Same. It looks bad ass but its rare I spend full price for a game and dont feel ripped off. Most I pick up for $13-$18 but ToV might be a $30 purchase. Especially since it has a collectors edition.

Also just bought an awesome hate I think you guys can appreciate!

Just beat Crisis Core and it was a bad ass game. Dare I say, better than the original? I liked the battle system and the story and basically everything but the lack of maps for the missions. I give it a 9.3.

I broke down & preordered Vesperia. I figure any game that I plan to spend 60+ hours on is worth full price.

Now I have to blaze through Lost Odyssey before Tuesday. I can't play two RPGs at once. Anyone else like this?
Crisis Core was good, but Genesis was just an absolutely awful character. :/
I would've rather watched Cloud cry for two hours then see Genesis as much as I did.

You ain't alone. Hell, I can barely play two games in general at once anymore.
Just wondering how everyone else works on RPGs now. Are you a completist, or do you just want to see the end?
For me it depends entirely on the game. Shadow Hearts Covenant was the first RPG where I got every item and completed every side quest, but that was mainly because I enjoyed the game so much that I didn't want it to be over.

On the other hand, Rogue Galaxy had a load of sidequests and mini-games, but the story just dragged on and on to the point that I just got bored with it and sprinted to the end.

I find now that there are just too many games coming out that unless I really find one I enjoy, there's little reason to complete all of the side stories.

On an unrelated note, what does everyone think of ToV's chance of showing up on the PS3 in a year?

I can't even touch an RPG without trying to get everything in it. It's reactionary. If I see a % completed score, it's even worse.
On an unrelated note, what does everyone think of ToV's chance of showing up on the PS3 in a year?
100%. They would be throwing so much Japanese money away by not doing so.

I have no doubt that it will show up on the PS3. But I wouldn't get my hopes up for it to come to the US.

I think probably because the Tales games have never really sold that well in the US. Also it seems to be pretty hit and miss what games we get from the series. But hey, ES is seeing a PS3 release in the US so I guess I could be wrong.

I can't play more than a couple games at once and never more than one RPG. I'm also cutting down to one shooter. I keep throwing grenades in Call of Duty 4 when I want to reload. I'm sure a couple people have thought I'm retarded.

I'm just hoping that all of these xbox rpgs get released on my pstriple as ultimate editions with extra crap spread on top of em. Especially ToV. I NEED MAH TALES DAMMIT!

Symphonia sold 118,000 in just two weeks in the US. The game hit 1.2 million worldwide. :/

I'm not sure what kind of deal Bandai/Namco has with Microsoft on the exclusivity of ToV, but if it's not too serious I could see it on the PS3 within a year.
I think ToS was the best selling Tales game in the US too...
Because it was put on an RPG-starved system. See where I'm going with this?

Yeah, just jumping in here but Tales hasn't really sold that well here relatively speaking. I'm playing 3 RPGs at the moment but that's about my limit. Now COMPLETING them, however...don't get me started...I usually have ADGD..
Because it was put on an RPG-starved system. See where I'm going with this?
I can see where you might be trying to go with it... But ToS was made for the RPG-starved system first. And then ported over the PS2 only in Japan...

As I recall, the main reason for not bringing ToS to the PS2 in the US was due to Nintendo spotting the localization money for the Gamecube.

I appreciate the intelligent responses though, as opposed to the "the case says 360 exclusive" that I've read elsewhere. At this point, the only reason I could see ToV not coming to the PS3 would be a similar move with MS posting the localization funds.

I'm going to wait for the Gametrailers review before buying Tales. IGN's review was encouraging, but I would've liked some sort of comparison to previous Tales games...

lol, that was my first thought after reading the review too. I want to know how it stacks up to the other Tales game. A little more info on the combat would've been nice too.

Actually I think another factor might be just how well ES for PS3 sells in the states. If sells poorly I could see them having second thoughts about bringing a ToV port over.

The only games where I've made an effort to get everything were the ones I truly enjoyed the most
- the first two shadow hearts games
- smt nocturne.

otherwise I'll do side quests as the come up or if they have big enough pay-offs.
What I really want to know is if ToV has exactly the same story as all the older games in the series.
I'm going to assume it's a very cliche' JRPG story. But it's been a while since I saved the world from true ultimate evil with a 18 year-old who is as queer as a 3 dollar bill and his pure as snow 15 year-old love interest who he'll never even put the moves on, however in the epilogue they have a kid..... but like I said, it's been a while.

You forgot his naive friend that just happens to be there when everything goes off.

Considering it's another Bamco game, it's certainly possible.

I'd be curious to see what the cost ratio is for a company to develop a game versus port a game. For example, if ToV doesn't sell overly well on the 360 (or conversely, sells very well), how many copies would need to be sold to justify a port? Obviously they'll want to at the very least break even. Ultimately, a port would only be created if either a) it doesn't sell well and they feel that cost can be recouperated on the PS3 or b) it sells extremely well and they want to see more profit by increasing accessability.

More thoughts on Crisis Core, FFVII, and Advent Children:

1. At the end of Crisis Core, Genesis gets carted off by Shinra soldiers. What happens to him and who does he become?

2. What is Cissnei's real name?

3. Why doesn't Cloud get gunned down like Zack? He's not far from where Zack is and there's a crapload of troops there. Zack is still alive (barely) when he shows up so it's not like the troops were gone long.

4. Why the hell does Cloud just leave the Buster Sword on the cliffs overlooking Midgar? Is he that much of an emotional wreck that he can't have anything that would remind him of Aerith?

I'll problaby think of more but that's all I have right now.

Got to the last boss in of Lost Odyssey this morning. When I get off work later tonight I'll finally finish it so I'll be all set for Vesperia tomorrow. Lost Odyssey has been a decent experience, had more fun with this than Blue Dragon. My mini review:

Pros:
Voice acting was great, the main character is probably the coolest one in recent history, nice detailed graphics, non-anime theme in a JRPG is welcomed which helped give it a more serious feel, lots of nice puzzle elements, and while not one of Nobuo's greatest soundtracks the music was top notch.
Cons:
Combat & loading is very slow, some character designs were "meh", the main villain isn't very interesting (crazy magician who wants to be a god), learning skills by equipping items is so FF9, and personally I wanted more tank characters and I disliked the two children in the party (Cooke & Mack)

Overall I'd give it a 8/10

Anyone looking forward to Infinite Discovery? I want to see the general impressions on it first before I consider buying a 360 (Stupid PS3, where are my RPG's?

Oh yea, Star Ocean 1 and 2 should be out this fall, time to get a PSP. Darn, time to start putting in some overtime.

O snap! I was in the processe of selling my modded PSP because I thought Kingdom Hearts/Dissidia were all I wanted coming up. Forgot about those 2. Maybe I should hold onto my PSP a little longer.

IU looks pretty good, but the art design is noticeably inferior to VP Silmeria and Radiata Stories (Tri-Aces two most recent games).

Star Ocean 1 and 2 on PSP look good, but I've got 2 on PS1 already. Oh well.

I'm looking forward to reading the reviews for IU since no one knows how good or bad it'll be.

I'll let you guys be the guinea pigs for all these new RPGs. Since there isn't any online play, I'll just wait for the first or second price drop.

Oh, and does anyone know the answer to the first question I asked a couple posts ago. The one about Genesis in Crisis Core.

The good thing about modern gaming is the size of the print runs.

Games are overprinted so aside from limited editions, it's easy to find later on.

I too plan on waiting for price drops and ports.
Kefka?
Kefka is more of an evil jester who wants to be a god. This guy was a little less silly.

This guy just wasn't menacing. Plus he grooms himsilf like he's a MLB player.

1. you will find out in Dirge of Cerberus
2. what ever you named her in Before Crisis. You named the characters in that game.
3. cloud was hidden
4. he kept the sword

Assuming you don't want or have the time to play DoC I'll give the answers!

1. Since Genesis's body is decomposing or something like that since he has that mako infusion thingy or whatever (cloud gets purified a few times throughout the series), he seals himself underneath midgar waiting for a crisis in which the planet would require his aid. (He wakes up after the events of DoC)

2. No idea!

3. What 62T said.

4. If it hasn't been retconned in CC, that cliff is the place where Zack dies in the flashback in the original FFVII. Its basically a grave marker, and signifies his guilt over both of their deaths.
