RPG Thread V is really...grindy

I liked the music at the start, but it just gets annoying after a while and I just started to hate it. I mean they basically played the same song throughout FFXIII and I still loved that music.

I don't know. Maybe I'm crazy. :p
I ran around on the 2nd-to-last floor of the last dungeon for probably 4 hours to get up to around 70 to 80. As for the macca, you can sell some forma for a lot which is what I did.
Crap. Well I finished the backtracking and finally can start the dungeon, so I guess it'll be about 12 hours til the end. 8 for the dungeon, 4 for the grind.

yeah, TWEWY had one of the best soundtracks in recent memory imho.

Also, I'm on the third character of Odin Sphere, Mercedes, and I fucking hate her. I'm so bad with her I actually put it in my PS2, instead of PS3, so I could use an action replay for infinite HP. I think I'll just finish the game this way, cuz it's a lot faster not needing to grow food. Repetitive as hell, but great story/graphics.

3 things I noticed switching to PS2 from PS3:
1.Load times are nuts, and even once a stage loads, it takes up to 15-20 seconds for enemies to appear, vs about 2-3 seconds on the PS3.

2. Slowdown is non-existent on the PS3

3. Also, this is one of the best examples for showing the PS3's upscaling/smoothing of PS2 graphics. Almost looks like HD sprites on PS3, instead of the muddier (though still pretty) PS2 graphics.

So for once, software emulation on my 80 gig PS3 is actually better than what the actual PS2 hardware/chip can handle, lol.

I'm well behind on my RPG's mainly because I refuse to buy them until I can find em at a really good price.

So, right now i'm playing Dragon Age Origins (and have Awakening waiting if I so choose) and I think i'm pretty close to the end.

I just rescued the queen or whatever, and now I've got to go perform some tasks to sway people away from Logain..... I can't figure that there would be too much after this right?

After that I don't know if I'm going to start into Awakening right away or hit up one of the other 300 RPG's in my backlog.

I had been collecting RPG's over the last few years even though I was not playing video games, so I've got alot that I need to play and catch up on.
Devil Summoner 1 and 2, DDS 1 and 2, Nocturne.
The whole Persona Series..... I have Persona 1 for psp, P3, P3FES and P4.

I started Odin Sphere quite awhile ago and I remember liking it alot, but if I play it again I'll just have to start it over because I don't remmber much from it right now.

I also have an active Devil Survivor that i'm working on, but I put in an hour or so every week.

And I really want to do the Mario RPG's, but If i'm going to do that I want to start from the beginning with Super Mario RPG of course (which I have an awesome condition SNES complete cart of). But, i think i'd have to spend a few bucks to download it on the wii to make sure nothing happened to the actual cart.

So, onces I beat Dragon Age I have a TON to chose from, just don't know where i'll start

Are you sure this isn't a crappy PS2 on your part? I'm pretty sure I played this on my PS2, and I definitely had short load times.

ooo, I really hope not :( IDK, I've played plenty of PS2 games on it recently, and no issues. Wonder if it's due to the cheats "loading" with each stage. I think I'll try a quick shot at booting up the game without the AR cheats, see if that helps. Also funny: with the infinite HP cheat, I have minimum health, but enemies can still hit/stun/knock me back. However, if they hit me for more than my max hp, I become completely untouchable and can just go around raping them :D

I had the same problem. I got to the knight boss and I was killed ten times in a row without managing to knock his health down to half. I had to walk away from the game for the week because I was so frustrated. I think I'll break out the action replay too. Also, the load times are like that on every PS2, and it is most annoying in the fire and ice areas that constantly lower health.

I hated TWEWY's music too, but that's to be expected when you have a soundtrack with popular music: some will love it and some will hate it. Unlike world/classical, or Gregson-Williams style, which few people hate even if they don't like it.

I don't remember the load times in Odin Sphere but I do remember ridiculous slowdown when there were a lot of moving items/enemies. Beautiful game, but it was a chore to finish.
Dragon Quest IX has been announced for North American launch on July 11. I will be buying that game day one.
Where was it confirmed at?

This is so awesome, I already placed my pre-order from GS last week and got the game 25% off, but I think I may just buy two copies now. WOO, thanks!! =)

Finally beat Barbatos in Tales of Destiny 2 for the final time (not Eternia)! Definitely one of the harder boss, especially the second time you fight him.

Just saw the news on Game|Life. Between this and StarCraft II, July is now the Best Month Ever :D

I'm not nuts about the cover art, but maybe I'm just too used to the Japanese one.

Started playing FF13... This game is okay... Definitely doesn't quite have the feel of being a Final Fantasy game. This game is really linear. I supposedly haven't gotten to the free roaming part yet. It's like one big tutorial.

Also, I am really hating some of the characters, specifically Hope and Vanille. Though I liked the part when Sazh had his "You gonna get raped" face on when he was alone with Vanille. Poor Sazh, being the token black guy in a JRPG.

The game is linear for about 75% of the game. That's probably the most unappealing thing about FF13. The music is great and I agree about Hope and Vanille. I don't think I liked either of them throughout the game 1 percent.

Ah, finally up to the impossible last boss of Strange Journey. It's in keeping with the SMT tradition of destroying the momentum by making your prepare for hours for the end. And god forbid the Japanese developer of a long-running series break a tradition.

Really stoked for Dragon Quest IX.

And in true Japanese fashion, it's being released on a Sunday!

Hopefully Best Buy and Target will have deals in their Sunday Circulars for it, but I doubt it.

I'm also looking forward to DQIX, but it does remind me that I still haven't picked up DQV yet. There's just so much DQ I can handle!

Finished Strange Journey after grinding to level 84 and buying an Alice. Really enjoyed it, I'm glad I stuck with it. Now I'm filling my compendium for fun.

In the home stretch in Nocturne. I've got one more Kalpa dungeon to finish (5th one) so I can get the true demon ending, then I'll tackle the Tower of Kagutsuchi. I'm at around level 80 right now, and nothing is giving me too much trouble. I assume that level 99 is the max level? If so, I may grind up to that before taking on the last boss.

Actually, I think 255 is the max level, technically. The counter stops at 99, but you can still level up. Granted, you don't need to go much beyond 99...

lol don't expect much when it "opens up," it's still a very simple experience.
Just complete Tales of Destiny 2 (not Eternia) Japanese PS2. Easily one of the best 2D game ever made.
I always wanted to play this. Can you read Japanese or did you use a faqs?
I always wanted to play this. Can you read Japanese or did you use a faqs?
I played the Chinese version since I can read Chinese. There is a menu patch right now and the group is working a full patch. I am sure at some point you will see every major Japanese PS2 games getting English patch. I think the only one out right now are Namco X Capcom and Front Mission 5

Was planning to finish Odin Sphere this week, but I forgot I was going to North Carolina with the family. Didn't have any room to take the PS2 (darn Wii being family-friendly) but it gives me a chance to play Sakura Wars and Pokemon SoulSilver.

It's playable with a F.A.Q., but you'll be missing out on a lot if you can't read the language it's in.

Just out of curiosity have you played the remake of the first Destiny game or have is there no Chinese language version of it? I haven't beat it myself as I was going through with a friend and we never really picked it back up, but it's miles beyond the original version. If I ever beat it I'll be giving Tales of Destiny 2 a whirl since it's been collecting dust for years now.

I only have the PSOne Tales of Destiny as there is no translated version. There is a group working on English translation patch but it doesnt look like they make much progress. It is hard to go back to the PSOne original since the battle system improved so much

Looking forward to Hexyz Force tomorrow.

Sakura Wars and Magna Carta 2 are on my backlog, which I probably won't get to till Sept.

Which one is worth playing first?

Sakura Wars is better

I still have my SNES copies of Lufia 1 and 2. Looking forward to the remake, but I'm still not so sure what to think about the new battle system.

Still trying to work thru the final Kalpa of Nocturne, but I get a couple of Hama/Mudo deaths and I get frustrated and turn it off. Hopefully with this 3-day weekend I'll be able to spend the time to push thru it and get on to beating it within the week.

Muramasa came today, put 5 hours into it already. Really cool looking game, most of the combat is pretty average though save for the tough boss fights that I've really enjoyed thus far. It's really light on the RPG elements, but collecting and trying different swords out is pretty fun.

Lucked into the Nocturne guide at Half Price Books today. There's a good crease down the back page but the spine looks good so I'm pretty happy considering it was only $8.

In honor of the Lufia DS remake I started playing the original (for the first time). Battles have been fun, characters are cool and the dungeons puzzles are amazing. I love that practically every room has a puzzle and that some involve tricking baddies on to pressure plates.

The action gameplay change for the DS is really interesting.

Can anyone recommend a RPG with ass tons of customization/classes? DQ9 just has gear changes right? not class? (Consoles: PS3 (60GB), Wii, DS, PSP, most others)

Well I am playing Tales of Rebirth. I am just amazed at how much it is different from most RPG. The story is deeper and more serious than most games, the combat is more complicate than other Tales games. With limit on healing meaning you cant just spam healing spell and items (In the original PS2 you can't even buy healing items). Oh and the 2D sprites looks great on 3D background.

I preordered DQ 9 for DS last week. Finished playing through FF13 (which I enjoyed a lot). I think I might backtrack a bit and play either Fable 2 or Persona 3 next.

You won't get it day 0 because it's out on Sun.

I'm betting that Target or Best Buy will have some kind of sale. They'll carry it, because Nintendo is distributing it. I also have a $5 off coupon at Target.

Been playing Hexyz Force some more and having trouble with the battles at around lvl 20. I find it really annoying that you have to keep making weapons for one character. I don't understand the elemental strengths/weaknesses at all, but seem to be steamrolling through it anyway.

Mmmm...
