Haha, I remember watching one of my roommates in college try and do that part of Parasite Eve and ultimately resorting to a guide. The worst part was that save point that isn't real, that got him killed the first time forcing him to re-fight the boss, and then he died numerous more time in the maze haveing to re-fight the boss each time and then he finally just looked up what to do. If I ever decide to beat that game I will not make the mistake of even trying to figure that part out.
iirc the boss wasn't even hard, just long.

then... random maze where you die if you turn the wrong way? wtf?

I haven't played Parasite Eve in forever. Loved it, but I never beat it (I only rented it). I never played PE2.

Having a blast with Enchanted Arms. Really an under appreciated JRPG this gen, despite its faults.

Im on chapter 3 in Parasite Eve!!

been there for how many years now?? lol.

I have it on my PSP... always staring at me saying "PLAY ME!" whenever I turn my system on for Peace Walker or Ys.

I seriously think Im gonna squeeze it in before celebrating my cleared backlog with the purchase of Valkyria 2 and BBS
If you're considering a 360 for the RPGs, I'd say it's not a bad choice.

Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, the Mass Effects, the Fables, and the KOTORs are all good games. Out of that list, I'd say you must play Tales, LO, the Mass Effects, the and the first KOTOR to get the most you can out of the RPG lineup.

That being said, don't just buy it for RPGs. There are dozens of quality Arcade and retail titles that are great for an afternoon of fun.
LO was good, had a tear-jerking story but that part on the last disc where you needed a certain spell to advance, some of the other forced non-RPG gameplay, and forced strategies to beat bosses ultimately made me sell that game.

I liked ToV, but the FAQ wasn't up to date at the time where I was, so I sold I. I re-bought it as the DotD and haven't played it yet.

Finally done with Parasite Eve! Hopefully I can finish Digital Devil Saga 2 before my vacation next month. Already have Valkyria Chronicles 2 and KH:BBS lined up for that month long vacation lol

I fired up Atelier Rorona tonight, but I just couldn't bring myself to play more than an hour. The game is good, but I don't completely understand the way the synthesis grading works. I made three items from a recipe but I lost 4 points o_O I may just wait until more people have played through and a guide is provided so I can reference if I need to. I do think I'll start Nier though since I just got that today as well.

I'm still trucking through KH:BBS as well, and loving every minute of it :D

Hope you can tolerate Nier better than I could. Could only stand it for a few hours. Some cool ideas, but overall I felt it sucked and was pretty damned boring.

It isn't a huge deal IMO, because there's a whole thing on leveling up the alchemy and stuff (if I get it correctly). The game is more of a traditional Atelier game compared to the Atelier Iris/Mana Khemia games that try to go a more standard RPG route.

I've put about 2-3 hours into Atelier Rorona, but haven't played in a few days. I finally did open Valkyria Chronicles II, but only played for a short time (love it so far). I finally played YS Seven, but need to play more to decide what I think. I still have to open Phantasy Star Portable 2. Played more Class of Heroes the other day. Not that bad, but the game can get frustrating really fast.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Persona 3 Portable
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

Jeanne D'Arc is also a pretty good SRPG but the story is ass.

And I hear good things about the Star Ocean remakes, as well as Lunar, and people seem to be having a good time with the new KH game and Valkyria Chronicles 2.

I started playing Star Ocean: First Departure. Not really that far yet but I like it. The only PSP RPG I beat was the Persona remake. Probably didn't age as good as other PS1 RPGs but I still enjoyed it. Killer soundtrack.

Crisis Core was a great prequel to FFVII but the combat gets tedious very quick. Just spam Blizaga. But the ending almost made me cry, and any game that can make me emotionally attached is good.

I thought CC's story was fairly poor save for the few moments of nostalgia that were really well done and yes, the ending was pretty good. It's a really good game though, and it's tailored perfectly to a portable system.

I thought CC got good once Nibelheim started, although I'm aware that's the end of the game.

Normal mode is too easy but Hard mode is too hard. But yeah, if you play Hard mode from the start, you really learn how difficult the combat system can be. You can't just roll all the time and you have to learn how to block properly because two unblocked hits will kill you. I made it all the way to the last boss, fought an epic 2-hour battle... then lost. That was my final day at S-E, as I started my real job a week later and so I was never able to play it again...
Jeanne D'Arc is also a pretty good SRPG but the story is ass.
I dunno; I think Orcs and Demons make European history far more interesting.

I thought Crisis Core was excellent personally. However, these are my favorite PSP JRPGs.:
Brave Story (while it doesn't do anything new, I still found it fun).
Breath of Fire III (Europe import, old game but fun)
Crimson Gem Saga (fun traditional RPG)
Crisis Core: FFVII (one of my favorites)
Disgaea: AoD
Disgaea 2: DHD
FF Tactics: WotL (even with some slowdown, additions are nice)
Half Minute Hero (very original and fun)
Hexyz Force (I personally really enjoy it, where I find the story interesting, battles fun, etc.).
Jeanne D'Arc
Kingdom Hearts: BBS (Very awesome, best PSP game IMO)
Lunar Harmony Silver Star (despite some loading hiccups, still quality)
Phantasy Star Portable (not as good as the sequel, but I still really liked).
Phantasy Star Portable 2
PoPoLoCrois (I recommend in ways if cheap. I liked the battles and found characters charming).
SMT: Persona (personally I'm not into it much, but some like it).
SMT Persona 3 Portable
Star Ocean: The First Departure
Star Ocean: Second Evolution
Tales of Eternia (Euro Import)
Tales of the World: RM (while a weaker Tales game, still fun if you like Tales characters)
Valkyria Chronicles II
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
YS Seven (fun action RPG)

Even though they may not fully be RPGs, I recommend Dissidia and Disgaea Infinite (if you are a big Disgaea fan). I use to own a few more PSP RPGs. There are still more I want to pick up. I need to play Cladun: This is an RPG? more to decide whether it should be listed. I use to own two Legend of Heroes games (I like the soundtrack and feel of the games, but the slow leveling bugged me). There are tons of awesome Tales import games which are Japan only, but they are in Japanese. While I may like a Wild Arms XF, really hard to recommend with its crazy difficulty. I wasn't really a Valhalla Knights fan, but didn't give them much chance (played demos).

Ah Breath of Fire III and Tales of Eternia. I'm still trying to find those for PSP (or a place to get them shipped cheap).

Great list though Mana Knight. I have everything on there but Y's Seven (waiting but on my lsit) and PoPoLoCrois (which I haven't heard of).

I just listened to Creid a little while ago and I've had the urge to play Xenogears ever since. Really good album, but the guitarist could have been better. Especially that outside note on "Broken Mirror", makes me cringe every time.
I may actually play Disgaea now. Have they speculated on a US release date yet?
NISA announced that it's coming next summer.

I like how they have an option to use low res sprites too.

"No, my graphics look too good. I can't have that."

*glances over to Disgaea 3 still sitting in the backlog*

Hmm. Might tackle that one after Enchanted Arms. Still only about halfway thru it. So far, it reminds me a lot of FF13, the way it is so linear and even how there's no shops, just some crystal or computer panel to access placed here and there in key areas. Not a bad game, tho, and better than I expected.
There's going to be a Xenogears orchestral album! I'm so fucking pumped.

PoPoLoCrois is a port of the first two combined (somewhat) from PS1 (Japan only game). I wasn't a big fan of the first Legend of Heroes and Kingdom of Paradise, so I went ahead and tried it. I ended up liking it way more than expected and loved its charm. It has some loading issues (an older PSP game):
Disgaea 4's sprites are just... oh wow.
I love the new sprites. It's a day one buy regardless.

I'm playing a lot of Atelier Rorona on PS3. I'm now on assignment 3. On PSP, I'm working on Valkyria Chronicles II. I do like how the game is a bit easier, but the artwork just isn't as pretty as the first one.
Oh TMK, never change.
I was thinking the same thing. At this point, TMK should just get a job with Sony and make it official.

TMK listed most of the good RPGs for the PSP, I disagree on several of the listings, but for the most part he provided what was asked for - a list of RPGs for the PSP.

There wasn't all that much fanboy in that specific post.
I was thinking the same thing. At this point, TMK should just get a job with Sony and make it official.
I just listed RPGs on PSP I enjoyed. I did not list the ones I didn't enjoy or didn't care for, such as FFI, FFII, Legend of the Heroes I-III, etc. If someone wanted good RPGs on the DS, I'd make that list too (even if less appealed to me on DS, there were still a bunch I liked).

And why would I get a job on Sony when I actually played my Xbox 360 the most in the past few weeks?

Anyway, I downloaded the Tales of Graces F demo on Japan PSN. Started the game just after I got back from work today. I will admit I barely understood what was going on in battle at first, but after a while I got the hang of it a little. Battles are a bit different than ToV and TotA where instead of going in different directions horizontally, you are going in different directions vertically. Combat was still completely Team Destiny, with massive combos and lots of damage. Can't say I liked the soundtrack much in the demo, but the graphics were definitely smooth (even if a Wii port up-scaled). The menu setup was exactly like every Team Destiny Tales game, so I had no issues knowing where everything was even if Japanese.

Overall, I found the demo good. I dunno if I'm willing to spend over $90 to import the game (I'd pay $80). I'll watch out for pricing, but I definitely want to get it.

I passed on Tales of the Abyss for $20 at GS which was in surpisingly good condition. I was thinking about buying it just to sell. Should I go back and get it?

It's a reprint. I don't think you'll get enough profit to warrant purchase
Yes go get it, it's one of the best PS2 games.
I beat it a few months back, I would just be buying it for re-sale purposes only.

But the above post is right. I just checked eBay and Abyss really dropped in price, going for around $30. I sold mine not to long ago for $50. Glad I refrained from buying it now.
$74 shipped...not sure if I'm willing to do that :cold:
PSP import games vary on release. Sometimes I can get one for as low as $50 (like Tales of Phantasia X), while some may be $70+. I'll wait for Third Birthday stateside release, but games which may never come stateside I'll import. The Yakuza spin-off on PSP, I'm still wondering if it will come stateside so I know whether to import it.

Well I'm in an Ebay boycott. (I had a guy who I sold Tales of Destiny to get the game, give me positive feedback, then almost a month later claim it was damaged and dispute with Paypal. They gave him his $$ back and I got back a disk that someone had sawed in half) so don't have that option.

So I'll keep looking at sites and maybe it'll turn up. I'll keep an eye out for PopoLoCrois though when I next hit Gamestop.

It wasn't an insult at all. Do you know anyone else that has played EVERY RPG for the PSP? Might as well get that job with Sony and get paid for all that hard work.

Picked up Arc the Lad Collection a couple days ago. I was hesitant at first, but when I saw that the jewel case was still sealed I had to get it. I can probably thank the Playstation Store release for the reasonable price.

It's out already? And is it just the first Arc or is the entire collection up?
