RPG Thread XI is pretending X-2 doesn't exist

yeah pressing X was hardly necessary, probably would of felt better without it.
edit: well wait, yeah i agree it should be an option, but there were a lot of times where you had to pick some specific shit to win.

i will say that pressing triangle to execute a partially filled gauge was very important though.
If it did, I suspect that I would have loved it instead of hating it. If they patch that in, I'll play it again. That was literally the main reason I disliked the game.
I LOVED the fact that they patched in auto-battle in DA2. Made me get all into the game again.

Might actually have to pick it up now, wasn't a huge fan of DA:O though (and sadly, I usually like Bioware games)
With the gambit system on FF 12 it just felt like it was "turn it on, watch it go". Press X, leave it alone. Very hands off. I think that's why I lost interest in the game so quickly.
i feel that 90% of RPGs, if gambit was implemented it would expose the ease of RPGs.

that's probably why FF12 was boring. you probably realized how crappy battles are in RPGs.
It's not like you have to use the Gambits anyway. You can control each character individually right?
You can, but I think that would be a tough way to play the game. You'd be pausing to issue commands an awful lot.

Wouldn't be a whole lot different than playing a traditional turn-based RPG.

Well, except that (IIRC) the game doesn't automatically transfer you to the menu of the next character who is ready to do an action. Without gambits, you would really have to pay attention to everyone and pick them manually when their turn comes up.

everyone i know who played through the game using the menus are very, very bitter towards the game.

and i don't blame them, but they really should of played it using gambits.
I liked the gambit system personally. It's pretty awesome when you have everyone set up just right.
I had fun getting to that point. But after halfway through, my party couldn't lose unless I fought something 20 levels higher, without my touching the controller.

I started not touching the controller during fights after the moving wall boss. I remember fighting some adamantoise mark or something during the rain, when I was 10-15 levels below it, and won. So I went to some mountain to fight a bird mark that was 20 levels higher, and I died. I stopped shortly after that.

or it could be the greatest RTS you've ever played!!!

well no, because the menu isn't set up well enough for that to happen.

So I went to Kmart to try and find Alan Wake for 10 dollars, couldn't find it, but I found Persona 3: FES for 20 bucks. I'm super excited to play it now
You disappoint me. You should have played it a long time ago.
I should had, but I have never been able to find a copy anywhere in my town, so when I saw it today, I picked it up as fast as I could and bought it. This is going to be the game I'll be playing like crazy for a while ;)

If you're like me, you'll get to the 80 hour mark and just tire out.

Then come back a year later for a full blown 30 hour run to the finish.

Don't forget to pick up one of these while you're in the area.

Voice acting aside the game is pretty good so far.

I'll probably get The Last Remnant next despite what the haters say. I've been impressed with the little to nothing I've seen of it.

If you can, it's recommended to get it on the PC cuz they changed some gameplay mechanics when they ported it over that supposedly make the game better.

Also, the engine runs less crappy on a PC compared to the 360.

Regardless, I still played the hell out of it on the 360 and still need to go finish it up.

Played some Persona 3 last night, and all I have to say is....why did I wait so long to play it? The game is simply amazing

P3 and 4 are probably my two favorite RPGs.

I was playing SO1 on the PSP and was pretty bored with it, so I decided to start up P3P again.

Welcome to the party! Persona 3 and 4 are in the very top on my RPG list.
I still need to pick up P4 sometime in the future, but I would like to beat P3 first before I play P4
Probably a good plan since P4 had a few improvements (depending on if you are playing P3P) that would make it hard to play P3 if you'd played a game with the improvements first.

Yeah I'm playing P3:FES (I could play P3P, but I'm not a huge fan of portable games). That's mostly the reason I want to wait, I just heard P4 had a few improvements that improved P3's concept and such

Ya, I mean the plot is obviously up to personal preference, but most people liked having full control of your party in P4. That was mostly due to the fact that the AI often didn't do exactly what you would have wanted, but having full control in P4 actually made the game seem considerably easier than P3 haha.
P3 Ending Spoiler
The MC was resting on Aigis's lap, and at the end seems very drowsy (because he is about to die) and closes his eyes (forever). Fairly sure if you play the "The Answer" epilogue in P3:FES it confirms that he dies (although I still haven't played that).
