RPG Thread XIII-2: Tough Moms Always Die Young

Ended up buying from Amazon's B2G1 sale a second copy of Radiant Historia, cause I can't bring myself to open my copy with the soundtrack.

Also ordered Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2, and Solatorobo.

Not that I'll get to any of them any time soon. In the middle of Rage, and lined up after that are Lord of the Rings, Saints Row 3, and Arkham City.

Did anyone do the True Ending and take on the Progenator as the final Boss in Etrian Odyssey 3?

Any tips/suggestions?

I didn't have trouble with it. Just used line guard, prevent order, thericas, party heal, and damage nulling limits.

Basically, I tried to kill Alarune, failed miserably, and went to kill the boss, and it died first try... So I can't help you much there.

i tried playing final fantasy 3 ds this weekend. i got to the dwarf island but, i dunno, it seems kinda boring and slow.

i feel like i should go to another town to buy phoenix downs but man it's soooo far.

come to think of it, shouldn't plural phoenix down also be phoenix down?
i only learned what down was when i wanted to buy a pillow. heh.

So I finally started FFXIII today. Completed the first two chapters and I'm guessing the title reference is from Chapter 1? Haha, you guys are brutal. Got about 3 hours in and the game is really gorgeous. Having characters named Snow, Lightning and Hope is kind of weird. Vanille's voice is a bit too childish I think and there's some sort of accent in there. Doesn't really bother me though. I also enjoyed the scene with Snow and Serah with the fireworks. I'm a total sap for that stuff and love the emotion it gives me.

I would have played more but I have to do some errands, hopefully I'll invest more time later today. 3 hours is nothing so I really can't comment too much on it so far other than nothing has popped up to turn me away from it. The battle system is nice and fast paced, but the paradigm system just got introduced so I'm barely scraping the surface. Looking forward to what's to come!

No one has been able to determine exactly what's up with her accent. It becomes more apparent as the game progresses though.
Am I missing something? Vanille and Fang have Australian accents
because they're from Pulse
. It's deliberate.
The fact that her accent fluctuates is the problem.

Hmm, I guess I didn't pick up on that. Seemed consistently thick and noticeable to me.

Yeah one of his volt all killed one guy the first round before I could even buff up. Then an Ice All took another person out.

I took down the divine judges and mortal hunters just fine. I only tried him once. The game was great for what it was. I'm actually proud of myself for sticking it out the whole way.
(Pride, mixed with shame for having pride in a video game accomplishmnet)

I don't care for Australian accents on women in general (to me it just sounds mumbly, even Miranda in ME2 despite her hotness) but this one in particular is horrible as well as inconsistent

i thought it was pretty adorable although the grunts and moaning got a little awkward. that's japan for you though.

their language is inherently corny, that's why translations rarely sound natural.

Same here. It's an accent I never found attractive. Claire from Lost screaming "mah baybee, were's mah baybee" annoyed the hell out of me, and that blond hacker girl from the first Transformer movie, I remember thinking "WTF are saying... I don't even..."
figures an english word i never heard of would come from a japanese developed game.
hmm
"sentimentally amorous" - pretty accurate for gilbert. i mean edward.

but apparently you can be spoonier! or the spooniest!

Got my ass kicked like 4 times in a row in the first Eidolon battle because I thought the gauge had to be filled all the way. Finally remembered about the "press X" part of the tutorial and paid closer attention only to realize it didn't have to be 100% full. Lmfao. Like 15 minutes of getting aggravated for nothing! Noob moment D:
Whoooo, put Alundra, Wild Arms 2 & Grandia on my PSP. Gonna have fuuuuun at work tonight.
Excellent choices.:applause:

Breath of Fire 3 is going pretty well, I forgot how hilarious the story is due to your party being constantly screwed over by everyone.

I don't mind it if it is Claudia Black doing the voice. :D

Made it to Chapter 7 in FFXIII. I'm about 13 hours in. Some of the battles are pretty tough and if you're not paying attention to what you're doing, you definitely pay for it. The boss battles are also pretty cool in that they're no push overs. Overall it's pretty satisfying. I find myself whoring Doctor's Code and using Potions during most normal battles if I need to heal myself. Popping a Fortisol before a boss battle also makes a world of a difference.

Switching between Vanille + Sazh and then Lightning + Hope is getting to be a bit much. I enjoy Lightning and Hope more as they definitely are easier to do battles with. I also left my Power Wristband on Snow and haven't got to use him for a long time now. I'll probably have like 10k Crystarium points by the time I get him back.

The game has been extremely linear but it hasn't really bothered me at all. Between the battle system and the cut scenes, I think it balances out. Definitely glad I made the choice to play it though. Nothing like taking a look at your clock and realizing you've been playing for 4 hours without even knowing it. Gotta love dem rpgz

It's Friday Friday! Gotta get down on Friday!!

Play mine RPGs on the weekend!!

Party and party and yah! Fun fun fun fun!
might be wrong but i think accessories go back to your inventory when you switch between the party split ups.
Sadly, that's not the case. I ended up getting Snow back after I posted and he still had the Power Wristband on him. No big deal really, I just have remember to take my accessories off every time there's a character switch. Can't wait to get three people in battle again. It's been simply two man parties the last couple of hours.

Fortisol is just amazing. Popped one of those before Snow and Hope fought a boss, man! Killed the guy in 1 Stagger bar and the fight took 1:29. It's awesome seeing 4~5k hits haha.

Yeah, the battles really hit their stride when you have 3 party members. It allows you to make use of most or all of the paradigm types, which is always fun.

I'm really surprised by how much I'm enjoying Heroes of Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes on the :ds: (Do we need heroes twice in the title?)

It's a good little puzzle/strategy game. Addictive.

Pretty sure you just imagined the first one actually.

I really enjoyed it, the way special abilities are broken up between the races really forces you change up tactics every chapter.

I loved that game. It's probably my favorite puzzle game ever. When I was playing it I would go to bed with images of it in my head, so I think I can say I was pretty addicted.

whatup hos!!!

I think I finally gathered the strength to stop playing Arkham City.

which means Im gonna continue off Mass Effect where I left off!!

I hope it's fun!!

Platinum'd Atelier Totori. The game did a lot of things much better compared to Rorona, but at the same time a couple small things were done worse, I think (mostly inventory management stuff).

Can't wait for Atelier Meruru.

Got about 26 hours clocked in FFXIII. I'm on Chapter 10 and the battles have gotten pretty hard. I found myself dying during normal battles at times, lol. Just fought Raines and man he was tough. I think I died like 5 times before I got a bit lucky and beat him. Managed to take him down in 1 Stagger.

After that battle the Crystarium expanded to level 8 and the amount of points needed skyrocketed. I had like 15k points per character and was able to get like 5 orbs tops :/ this was there primary roles too. I already foresee a lot of grinding in the horizon.

Man I could not stick to Tales of the Abyss, I find myself wanting to crack open and play innocent sin after finishing the first one. Think I will play it and get it out of my system and return to abyss later.
I couldn't go back to Abyss after a long break. I had no idea where I was supposed to go next.
Hmm, then I should probably make some short notes on whats going on and where I am going next.

I had this problem too but I stuck with it and forced myself to play. I'm glad I did because it's one of favorite Tales games. I'm debating if Abyss or Vesperia is my favorite. I think Abyss for the story and Vesperia for the characters (although I do like Jade)
