I'm at the point now in Torchlight where nearly every item at the blacksmith's shop has "Epic" in the name
Am I the only one on here that actually liked FF8? haha.
Nope. I like it too! Amazing music, fun sidequests, one of my favorite characters in the entire FF series (Laguna), Triple Triad, etc. It's far from perfect, but I honestly do like it.
EDIT: But I'm with blueshinra, and I think it does have the best piano arrangement in the series
It has the best arrange albums overall in the series. Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec is arguably just as good as the Piano Collections:

I remember spending hours on one island just to junction alot of spells from Malboro's (the tentacle monsters) over and over and over.

Motherfuckers trying to get me to log in to Facebook...

I still remember all the time I spent putting monsters to sleep/silenced/blinded, setting command to draw, and rigging up a pencil weighted down on the button to stock up on my spells for junctioning :D

And as many have said, I really think it has one of, and possibly the, strongest OSTs. Damn, now I wanna do a replay (it's been like 5 years since my last run).

I remember the day FF8 was released on PSX, I was coming off the high of FF7, but that 10 mile walk I took as a young kid to pickup my prepurchase from FuncoLand, did not seem worh it because FF8 dissapointed me.

I remember the FF8 card game and waiting to battle in certain locations so I wouldn't spread the randomize cards option to all the different areas. That and saving every time I won a new card no matter how terrible it was, lol.

Just completed Persona 3. Man, what an amazing game. I loved all the characters and the story itself. Still have to complete "The Answer," which I'll get around to sometime this week.

Although it was pretty much foreshadowed since the beginning, seeing the MC die at the end was both sad and satisfying. He sacrificed himself so that there could be peace. The days after the sealing of Nyx really hit me though.

Also, Aigis.

So I've finally started playing The Witcher 2.

And...

Is there a reason everyone was going so crazy over this? Because right now the best thing I can say about it is "It's not Dragon Age 2". As it stands, I plan on dropping it the second X-Com comes out.

I'm doing everything I can to like this game, trust me.

I mean, I dropped the first game after about an hour, but I'd heard that this one was so totally awesome and I really want it to be so totally awesome.

Did you play it? If so, could you please tell me what the fuck?

That bit was rather... psyduck.png

EDIT: Also, "Triss". Which sounds less like a woman's name and more like the name given to a really unfortunate guy who got picked on a lot in third grade.

I played the first like 5 years ago, and got like 20 hours in before getting lost and disinterested. While I liked what I saw from it, I abandoned the possibility of buying the 2nd because the first is so long, and I imagine a crucial requirement to really enjoying the sequel.

It's a lost franchise to me, but I do remember being pretty engrossed by it, chunky design choices aside.

EDIT: That said, why the hell would you give into the hype twice?

I know I'm definitely getting less out of the second game because I passed on the first so quickly, but I think if I played through the whole damn thing, the feelings of you fucking owe me would probably harm my opinion of the second far more than the greater context and understanding would help.

At least they tried to put some actual god damn animation in the second game. Shame Geralt moves with all the grace of Niko Bellic.

Sorry, I can't remember names of characters of games I stopped playing.
You gave up on it too?
Only cuz I got half way, which meant that I needed to start playing a different game.
Anyone else playing pokemon? Just beat the first gym
I almost bought it, but I never played White much after I beat the Elite Four and I'm pretty sure there's still stuff to do after, right?

Definitely looks that way. I'm planning to go back to White and check out some of that postgame stuff before getting Black 2. I haven't touched White since beating it.
Thank you for the RPS article. I had missed that this week.

Personally, I think 'innovation' in video games is mostly dead. There isn't much innovation, particularly in AAA titles. So, mostly we are looking for something fun to play, even if it is familiar.

Yes, many are playing on nostalgia. (Leisure Suit Larry, Wastefall 2) But, I didn't support The Banner Saga, Lilly Looking Through and Gianna Sisters because of nostalgia. I supported them because they looked like games I wanted to play.

I think with Obsidian it is kinda a special case. While there is certainly nostalgia driving that from the Black Isle days, I think there are many who want to see what Obsidian can do with their own IP, rather than having them working on someone else's IP. Personally, I haven't gotten around to supporting it yet, and I haven't decided if I will.
Didn't John Carmack say the same thing last year and iterate that his job is not to be creative, but to give the people exactly what they want.

Hahaha, yeah. Triple Triad was like sex, it's great, but gotta watch out for STDs...

Congrats on trying the sequel, I liked the first but after a certain point creation and proper use of potions became necessary and I quickly lost interest. Also it liked to crash my PC every half hour :(

And if I recall correctly you could never win back special cards once lost? I hope someday SE can make another game as out there as FF8.

God damnit, Witcher 2.

If you're going to remind me of Suikoden, making me win a fucking dice game to advance the plot is not the way to do it.

I've been bitching a lot, but the plot seems half-way decent, some of the creatures are really neat, and the conversations sound... well, like conversations, rather than the pre-recorded voice clips being played in sequence that most other games have.

Then on the negative side again, this game has a character named fucking Dethmold. Is he a fucking Final Fantasy IV boss or some shit?

Side quest dawg. No need to finish it.

How can you hate on Witcher 2? All it is a mature Zelda game with tits. So that means it is better than any Zelda game :D

(the above is complete sarcasm. Witcher 2 however is still a titty fucking awesome game)

Hey, I got through it after a few tries. Just saying it's horribly stupid.

Then I did this ritual thing where I heard the same five fucking lines repeated again and again for several minutes while I fought monsters for some reason that's never really explained, then watched a cutscene that looked nothing like it was supposed to.

Right now I'm trying to imagine all the fucking ambient dialogue out of existence.

"Plough 'em all! Plough 'em all!" "Odrin! Odriiiiin!" "Not another fucking stone!"

Jesus Christ...

Asbel from Tales of Graces has to be one of the worst and most poorly written characters.

Asbel: Take my hand
Lambda: And if I refuse?
Asbel: Then I'll take yours. It doesn't matter as long as the other accepts.

What the fuck does that even mean.

However, the battle system and all that goes with it is addicting as hell.

Damn, hadn't actually realized Pokemon was out. Gotta get around to finishing up some other portable stuff but then I'll be all over that.

Anyone play Baten Kaitos Origins? I played most of the first game but got too annoyed that the battle magnus changed to crapy cards over time so stopped. I like that Origins doesn't do this (only quest magnus degrade/change) but so far at least the story is slow and the characters are blah other than Guillo. I just came back to Alfard during some sort of election and am wondering if it's worth it to keep playing?

Once I figured out Witcher 2's dice game is Yahtzee (poker dice) it wasn't all that difficult to win a game. Including side quests I think I did it a total of 6 or 7 times.

Yeah, now imagine every other random asshole you meet in the game did that. And from twice the distance as that dwarf.

That's every city in Witcher 2 so far.

About finished with the first part of Aedis Eclipse on the :psp: . Lost too many of my strong/important characters plowing through the last battle so I think I'll go back to an earlier save.

Curious if characters carry over to the Surface World part of the story, and if Surface World and Divine World are just as long as this lower world part. (Feels like I've been playing about 15-20 hours. If so, would make this nearly a 60 hour game)

The PSP Go has some shit battery life though.

Imagine how difficult it is to get 5 of a kind though.

Three hours too long difficult.

Motherfucking stretch goals!

Paladin and Chanter class at $2.7 million. At $2.8 million, Obsidian... re-hires one of their old writers? I guess?

I mean, that's kind of odd, but he was the lead writer on Mask of the Betrayer which was basically the only good thing to come out of the Neverwinter Nights franchise (player-made content excluded, naturally), so sure, cool, I guess.

That was one of my problems with the game. If I heard the word "plough" one more time...

Started replaying FF9 last week and I am now on the last dungeon of the game and wow is Quina like one of the most versatile characters in the game once you get some good spells on it, now if it wasn't for all its annoying as hell dialogue and horrible design.
'bout time, Crotch, I figured you joined the party a while ago. C'mon Pallys!!!
I was supporting them in spirit until now.

He/She doesn't appreciate that.
