RPG Thread XVII - Talk of RPGs past.

if you like companions that don't talk then the dragon quest series is a fine game

of course your character doesn't talk either

It's more a "this character with five different quips probably should not repeat them every 15-30 seconds" mod than a "never talk ever" mod.

I don't say 2012 GOTY lightly.

Well, I do when I'm joking, but I'm not joking. It was my favorite game of 2012.

And just so you have some context, my second favorite game was Warriors Orochi 3.

That probably didn't help.

I still have Dragon Age 2 up on my shelf. For about a year now.

And hell, I loved the DW Gundam games. (Minus all the Get X number of characters at Level 4 friendship to continue stuff)
So, um. J-cart.

Talk to me about this "gay planet" I hear so much about.
Just read about that... Seems very weird and off-putting to try and shunt gay players off into their own planet. But at least they're trying to include content for gay players at all... I guess? I don't know, not sure what to think. It would be funny/offensive if the planet is revealed to be Alderaan.

Do you have any money?

I want to spend all your money.

Makeb. It will be dubbed the "Gay Planet" because it is the only way to experience same gender romance (SGR). Unfortunately RPs and PvErs are the main audience in SWTOR, so the upcoming digital expansion is basically for them. Honestly I could careless, just like my position about it in real life. However some people just take it pretty damn seriously. Like this one person wasn't going to join our guild because we weren't LGBT friendly. I'm sorry that our dick jokes were too distasteful for your real life concerns.

It's Bioware, so SGR needs to be in the game I guess. It will cost you $9.99 if you have a subscription or $19.99 if you don't! Plus you got to be level 50 before you can even visit Makeb.

Agreed. However they are trying to cater to what they believe is a large portion of their player base. I am sure it will get the good and bad press that it will need. Either way it is an expansion of 5 more levels, which is where the class balancing will happen (new skills). So I already bought into it.

Wrong thread.

Warriors Orochi 3 was one of my favorite games last year as well. Did 1000/1000 on it which took forever but I loved every minute of it. And online co-op was one of the better online experiences in a DW game. Plus dat roster....

My sexy Dong Zhou will kill everything.

Torchlight II is getting easier as an Outlander. The bosses still suck, though. It mostly consides of me running away and fired three autoshots, a glaive toss and a shadowshot before the bosses catches up to me. Pretty annoying, but I have found it goes quicker with a 2H bow/shotgonne than DWing pistols, at least at this stage. Also, it's better than Diablo 3.

i think warriors orochi 3 (and most of the warriors series) do an excellent job of making the grind fun.

lately i've seen a number of articles complaining about the grind, or complaining about unlocking... and i think it's funny, because a lot of the times those are the things that compel you to play the game. obviously there's a good way and a bad way to do it, but still.

Yeah, 1000/1000 is like 40-60 hours which is reasonable. It's the 20 hour games which require 200+ hour grinds that are the unreasonable ones.

And Wang Yi

I haven't played a DW game since DW3 on ps2, kinda tempted to play WO3 to see how far they've come. Is Lubu still a bad mutherfracker?
I've got something to put in you.

At the gay planet.
Let's start a war. Start a nuclear war.

Lu Bu gets his ass kicked like four times in Orochi. It's pretty awesome.

But if you want to get into it, this is the best place. This is the definite Musou game and probablly will be until they make another crossover game.

no, he's no longer Lu Bullshit from the days of DW3-5. I don't think you can trick him into jacking his horse anymore either, which was the best part about fighting him.

Aside from the "i'm a endboss" invincibility frames that Orochi has, you need to learn that your new terror comes in the form of Himiko. Yes, you will be spend your days running from this little terror of a girl.

Guan Yu is still a PITA too but he always has been.

Like Indignate said he becomes sort of a running gag on how often he gets his ass kicked. He gets over shadowed by a bunch of characters, Susano-o and Orochi X. But I think I read somewhere that Xiahou Ba kills everyone.

Ask me about the slow-dawning horror as I realize that I have not been keeping track of my New Vegas character's level and know that I will be doing Old World Blues at such a high level that everything I encounter will be a monstrous fucking bullet sponge.

Hey, what about that slow-dawning horror that you haven't kept track of your character level and that you're going to have to do Old World Blues and encounter nothing but monstrous fucking bullet sponges?
Himiko is so fuckin overpowered with the right stuff on her. You can run around an entire battlefield and never lose your musou.
I'll be having one of those nights where I'm just chillin, destroying Chinese people en masse. Not even really trying to accomplish an objective. And Himiko will just ambush me and 1 hit me and totally ruin that train.

Leave me alone.

It's pretty shitty. Not looking forward to wading through a sea of trauma harnesses. Really should have done that DLC, like, ten levels ago.
Could anyone convince or unconvince me to buy Enchanted Arms for $9. I kinda want to try something new.
Meh for 9 bucks its worth a shot I guess. Surprised it's not cheaper though. I swear I bought it for like 5 bucks 3 years ago...

Liked the grid based battle system with pokemon, er, I mean golems. The story isn't anything grand, but I've played worse. One of the characters (forget the name) has the worst, most annoying voice I've ever seen in a game though (close second goes to Vanille)... Still, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Enough to beat it at least.

TLDR: If you are desperate for a new RPG, I'd say it's worth it for that cheap.

As soon as you encounter that character, you'll know within 2 or 3 minutes if you can actually continue playing or not. I couldn't do it.
Looking for a good FFvii style rpg for ps3.
Any suggestions?
Really isn't a clean recommendation to make there.

Leda doesn't lie. You shouldn't lie, either.

So, Ys: Seven or Ys: Oath of Ferballs? Thinking of getting one since I think I'm down with Half-Minute Hero for now (loved it).
