RPG Thread XVII - Talk of RPGs past.
Oh man, I know a Fire Emblem fangirl who would totally eat this up.
Is it me?

It's not me. I'm kinda weirded out by the whole "... and then you can recruit the characters' kids!" angle.

I'm interested in the 3DS for Etrian Odyssey IV, SMT IV. Maybe some other games that end in 4. And that Fire Emblem. Would definitely like to see a price drop in the system first, however.

However, I have alot to work through on the :psp: first. Persona 2 IS first, then Growlanser, then Hexyz Force.

aaaaand the fanservice is now heading into loli territory

I like her, at least I think I do. Maybe she won't be annoying, but she might just be. I want to see what her purpose in the game is. She CLEARLY resembles Serah, but why? Those two Lightning outfits look pretty cool. Noel was shown in the trailer they released today. He was fighting Lightning and was like "Who are you?! LIAR." Hopefully he doesn't have a huge role in the game.

I liked the idea of the last man alive on the planet. Could have been a really fascinating concept for a character. But (and I know this is Final Fantasy, but still) it was hard to get over how perfect his hair and clothes looked. He should have looked like a character from Fallout 3 or something, and been driven crazy from isolation besides.

I mean, I enjoyed his character, but I don't really see what else he can really do to advance the story, especially with Lightning having the powers of the "Goddess." I do want to see what happened to him after the events in FF XIII-2, but that's about it. :l
i actually really enjoyed noel, people seem to just hate the way he looks?

he's a fun dude, reminds me of tom cruise.
You mean Kingdom Hearts? Particularly Sora.

There are a lot of RPGs coming out that I may want to get - that's something I thought I would never say again.

Looking at EO4, Class or Heroes 2 and Pandora's Tower until further news and I'll definitely get the one with the highest difficulty out of the bunch...when I can figure out which one that is LOL.

FF and Fire Emblem are fine, they just aren't the best fit for me.

TLS scarred me for life in terms of localized Wii JRPGs. i want to believe xenoblade and pandora are great, but lord, who can you trust these days?

Wait, you haven't played Xenoblade yet? What the fuck is wrong with you?

my buddy was pretty far and dropped it because the main character was becoming unbearably illogical for no apparent reason. and that shit is still $60.

I decided to play them out of order because fuck the first one. But I think my enjoyment of the sequel really suffered for that decision.

But srsly, even Torment has more engaging gameplay than the first Witcher.
sorry indig i've heard mixed stuff about it
The only mixed stuff about Xenoblade is that it is either GOTY 2011 or GOTY 2012.
crotch im going to start The Witcher. we can make it through, together.

join me
Remember to take your daily supply of potions!
the first one, of course. it would be criminal to play out of order.
Aliens 2 is an acceptable starting point.

You just hate RPGs, admit it.

In other news, the new Final Fantasy: ATB is a complete cash grab!

Thanks SE for lowering your standards yet again. See Wizardlings for iOS.

aaand I've just lost all interest in Devil may Lighting: Back to the Future J-pop who gives a crap omg those shoulder pads-3. Srsly FF has gone to shit.
an iOS game and some fan service means they've gone to shit? wut.
The game cost money when it feels like it should be free initially. Then it cost more money to use hourglasses and finally you have to purchase random packs to roll a random character to put on your team.

Then there is the game play, which is just tap the heroes as fast you can. It is like they don't even care.

I don't know what it is, but when people do this I can never find it to be clever.

Sounds like an iOS game.
Hey, panzerfaust just psychically sent me his response: "It's an iOS game."
Yeah.

Every time I write the word "psychically" I get really worried that I actually wrote "physically" and I check the sentence over so many times that none of the words look like words anymore.

How's Witcher treating you, panzerfunk?

I'm new to the whole "iOS" game thing.

Does "it's an iOS game" mean that they nickle and dime you with a shitty game just because?

I'll admit that I'm not an expert on the topic, but that is my understanding, yeah.

EDIT: Indignate just psychically told me to tell you, "Yeah."

My superhero alter-ego is named PsyChick.

Coincidentally, the only character I made when I played SWTOR during a free trial is also named PsyChick.

just completed the first chapter and entered the city of Vizima. i'm not sure if the witch vs townspeople dilemma was supposed to be a hard decision as i didn't have quite enough information to condemn her. i don't even know how witchcraft works or what she's capable of, so i just fucked her and killed the crazies, then died quite a few times on the demon dog until i fought him drunk which made things a whole lot easier.

so nothing too impressive yet, though the combat is fun enough -- did you not play with the over the shoulder camera? it's pretty smooth and i think it feels good when you got the timings down, plus the combos look pretty extravagant and all. dunno, it doesn't feel terrible or anything. im also enjoying collecting all the formulas and learning new herbs, and the new city environment has kept me interested in playing further.

Keep up your herb farming and always stay drunk on potions :D

Finished the first 'dungeon' in Persona 2 IS. Pretty darn easy. Did they tone down the difficulty for the PSP version?

I don't remember any word of difficulty changes. They made the combat interface more manageable, but since we never got an official release of Innocent Sin in the states I only have Eternal Punishment to compare it to.

I guess just compared to other SMT games where you needed to use healing items after every battle or could get wiped out quite easily, this one is no problem. I'll see what the next dungeon is like. Negotation stuff is a pain, though.
