Saints Row Official Thread (New map available for download)

Not being able to adjust your height in this game makes me weep. I made "me" but "me" at like 5'11 or whatever just doesn't cut it. I am an oversized freak of a man and not being able to represent that is disappointing.
Anyone got some advice for me for the insurance activities??? I can't even beat the 2nd level. Is there a certain strategy for this activity?? I can't even get close to the $45,000 I need.
.
1) Dial 911 into your cell phone.

2) When the ambulance comes, jack it.

3) Drive it straight into another car so you fly out the windshield.

4) Big big money ensues... I beat all the fraud missions last night in about an hour, was pretty easy this way.

All the rewards are definitely worth it.

I was able to get a few MP games in yesterday. Some were choppy as hell but a couple ran somewhat smooth. I still like it a lot though. I just wish money was easier to get, I can't buy shit with the $165 I earned.

I'm off for the rest of the week so I'll be spending it in "da Row". Can finally put in some more time in single player. This one's going to keep me busy for a while. MP is a lot of fun when it doesn't lag. It can definitely use a patch. Hopefully we'll get one soon!

Hey, you know you collect money for every area in the map you control, right? All the money is placed in the Saint's Row hideout/house/crib thing north-west of the church. Check it on your map - you may already know of it; you can save cars and get used weapons and clothing there too. Anyway, go into the house and one of the lit areas will give you all the money your controlled areas of the map have provided. Nice to go there and stock up on some cash to get some nice weapons :)

I think Santurio 's talking about MP.

Multiplayer is great fun played about 10-15 games and only had ONE game with the 12 yearold "gang bangers" and the "hardcore" "gangstas" but it was fun laggy at times but enjoyable especially the Bling the Ride and Protect the Pimp Modes
Well Guys, I got my copy--- whenever people plan on getting together and playing lemme know :)
Multiplayer is broken. For Friends playing with each other that is.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I had no idea you could just use a car. The entire time, I was just trying to do fake dives and get money that way. This should make things ALOT easier.

Also, anyone know where the next Mayhem Activity is? I finished the first one. And anyone know why the hell an achievement is to walk 26.2 miles on foot, ala Dead Rising?
Multiplayer is broken. For Friends playing with each other that is.
it is but not completely. I have a few members in my gang now and after some struggling we were able to play several matches together. Like I said before some were pretty laggy but some went just fine. It does need a lot of work though. We've even had a few dance sessions in the lobby room.

This is how the money is distributed online:

$15 For playing in an online Ranked match
$30 For winning
$15 For getting a multi kill
$15 For not dying at all
$15 Killing spree

I wish there was a faster way, but this is it.

on single player is it better to play just one gangs missions at a time or try to evenly distribute them. I think I am down to the last mission or 2 left on the vice kings missions, but I haven't even touched the carnalles (sp?) or the rollerz or any other gangs missions yet. I figured it would be easiest to do it one gang at a time.

I did the same thing you did, except with the Carnales. It'd be easier to do one gang at a time because you have to worry less about those take-back missions where the gangs make an assault on a certain territory.

Also, a patch is coming.

Fo' sho!! That Bling the Ride game we played was cool only because we got the money. Otherwise that was one of the worst I have played yet.

So there is alot of praise in this thread... time for some negative remarks from me, after putting in about 13 hours. These are just small nitpicks, things I'd want to see improved on by the next game.

- The radio stations suck. Not the music, but the stations themselves... the DJ's are boring, the commercials are boring, I just bought all the songs at the record store to not even bother with the lifeless and bland radio stations. Bubba the Love Sponge was a huge shock jock from Tampa Bay back in the day, it was cool to hear him in game but not when he's not even doing anything remotely funny.

- Insurance fraud could have been done alot better, imo. It was a cool concept, but way too easy to exploit and I wanted to see other shit than "run in front of a car" or "crash two cars together".

- The side quests I've done so far are fun, but are a little too easy. I've done all the escort missions, insurance fraud, and demoltion derby no problem. Not even level 8 is much of a challenge. They are still fun, regardless.

- Money comes WAY too easily and there is almost NOTHING to spend it on. Only three clothes stores in the game, everything there is easily bought, not much of a reason to return. There is an ok number of things to buy but it's all too easy to buy after awhile. It makes me miss the GTA days of buying property.

- I've almost never used the gun store, I've so far used what I found off of dead bodies and I've been ok.

So yea... while I'm playing it more, while it's good the initial wow factor has worn off and GTA does some things slightly better while Saints Row does some things slightly better. It just seems like alot of stuff in Saints Row comes too quickly, I mean every sidequest is unlocked straight from the first few missions. I've got so much respect I don't ever have to worry about "unlocking" a mission... I'd rather the sidequests have opened up gradually as you did more stuff, instead of dumping it in your lap all at one time.

I'm banking on the fact Saints Row 2 is going to improve all these things I listed and they will release one amazing game, complete with bikes, boats, and planes.

These are all just minor minor things, I definitely love the game and am going to play the shit out of it.

Shut ur mouf d00d! Don't be haytin.(j/k)

I agree, the game isn't perfect, but damn is it fun. I am waiting for more people to play the game to drop a big ass spoiler on this bitch that is so damned funny.

well don't exploit it then, don't use a car

There you go. Use your money in the gun store, buy rocket launchers, buy grenades.. derail trains! There's only three clothing stores? I don't think that's right.. there's also jewelry stores.

I still like this game, there's quite a lot to do. It's one of those games you don't really play, you just pop it in and mess around with shit just to see what happens.

If you can hit the totals in insurance fraud without using a car in some way, then I definitely tip my hat off to you.

I get my grenades for free from my stash, so I don't need to buy them ;) There are only three clothing stores but many locations for them... there is Sloppy Seconds, On The Rag, and Impression Suits.

Saints row 2 needs boats, motorcycles, and planes. I think it would be awesome if you could customize the aircrafts. I would also like to see an online pink slip racing.

Boats and motorcycles would be awesome (along with more vehicle types). I don't really care for planes....you can only have so much fun. It's just flying....no obstacles, no nothing. At least with boats and motorcycles, you could do drive-bys, float-bys, chases, etc. Not so much with plances. Helicopters maybe, because they're small and you could still terrorize the streets.

San Andreas made flying amazing... I flew for hours in that game.

How are grenades in your stash? A mission?

I made it up to $250,000 in insurance fraud without using a car.. it's not that hard.

Ok.. three stores.. but there's also jewelry stores, chop shops, etc.

You get the grenades by doing the Mayhem missions near where all the rich stores are, like the Impression Suits store.

How did you not use a car at all on the insurance fraud missions?

just time it right, run in front of a speeding car, take the dive, and watch your guy go flying.

I too got the achievement without using a car.

To me, that is "using a car", in a sense.

I always remember reading previews where it was like "Throw your guy down the steps!" and that shit won't get you anywhere near the amount you need.

It seems it was either throw yourself in front of a car, or get into a car and crash into things... Insurance Fraud got hyped so much in the previews but I just found it meh. Took me about 20 minutes to do all three locations, car or no car.

Did you jump THEN press the triggers to take a dive? Or just hit the triggers as a car came at you?

Also, what is the achievement specifically?

it's to hard to jump into it. just run along side the road and at the last second run in front of the speeding car and pull the triggers.

my roomate picked up this game and we have had a ton of fun doing insurance fraud.. we got it up to around 80k at once.. then we had one where it was counting up, and up and after getting past 100k the counter just says "+LOTS"

we lost our shit at that point.

LOL.

I remember I got that as well. I got $155,000+ on one hit.

Small thing I noticed today. I jumped off of the bridge into the water and my dude tucked and did a cannonball. Now I wonder if my guy was fat if he would do a belly flop :)

Saint's Row Patch is being worked on:

Product Update for SR
We are working on a Live product update for Saints Row. It will fix various problems found after release, in both single and multiplayer.

We are working hard on the update now. Here are a few (but not all) of the issues we expect it to address:
 • Improvements to the way the game handles packet loss and bandwidth management between players. This will address the issues commonly cited as “lag”, and general synchronization problems between the players’ clients (vehicles/players warping around, etc).
 • The system for rating a player’s quality-of-service has been improved, and made less conservative. This means you’ll see many more matches with 10-12 player limits.
 • Fix for the “clothes stealing” exploit in multiplayer
 • Fix for widescreen formatting issues in certain resolutions
 • Changes to Matchmaking phase, to get players in the game faster
Microsoft provides product updates to anyone with a Live connection, even without a paid membership.

Problems using Gang features, timeouts when using Gang menu
Gangs are managed by a dedicated set of servers. During peak hours on release night in North America (Tues 8/29) those servers hit an unforeseen limit. Yesterday (Wed) the server team increased that limit, and since then it appears to have addressed the problems with Gang features.

We’re monitoring this closely, in any case.

Problems joining Party Lobbies
This was actually due to the gang server problem, as described above. The fix for that also addressed the timeouts when joining a Lobby.

A related issue here is the Lobby connect dialog doesn’t allow the player to abort when the gang server is not responding. That particular aspect will be addressed in the SR product update, in case the servers have similar issues in the future.

Yep... and I think you get more of a bonus if you do it at the last second. Wait for the extremely fast cars, as well, and bigger things like trucks and vans will hit your harder.

I've yet to go online with this game and I'm at work right now so I can't check, but what are the limitations for joining gangs?

Join one gang only no matter how many characters you make (essentially one gang per XBL account)? Or can you join multiple gangs with one character and/or make multiple characters where each one has a gang?
I dreamt that I was playing this last night. I guess that's a sign that I need to pick it up soon.
I dreamt that I was in a russian mafia because of this game last night. Crazy.
