I'm ten minutes into Advent Children and there are already two strikes against it. The first, there is no dvd insert. All there is a 
ing one page advertisement for umds. I expected at least a chapter listing. The second strike, the ing English subtitle doesn't match the ing English voice over!! There's no excuse for that. This does not bode well for a movie I'm going to be super critical about. I've waited too damn long and I love Final Fantasy too damn much to be anything less.

I watched it in Japanese with the english subs. Not bad, but I wish the font was smaller and the color was white. Also the subs for Cait Sith were supremely off...

The English subtitles are for the Japanese dub. I you like to watch the subtitles and not the movie, but I'm correcting your complaint. And the insert is no biging deal, since probably half of the DVD's I own have them.

Well the lack of a real insert is more annoying than anything else. And I don't accept that it maybe common practice to leave it out as a valid excuse to do so. As for the issue with the subtitles, even though it was for the Japanese dub, I don't see why it still wouldn't match the English dub. It probably would've taken very little effort on their part to sync the two.

A better question is, if the english audio is only dubbed and they didn't go through and change the movie itself at all, then why the did it take so long for it to make it US shores. That and the fact that the english audio track is only 2 channel. Something I didn't notice until AFTER I had opened the flippin' thing. All in all, this movie better be pretty damn good otherwise I'm gonna be pissed that I spent $15 when all I had to do was throw it on my blockbuster queue in order to see it.

s Weird. My 5.1 surround system was working hard during action scenes with the English dub.
The English dub and Japanese dub translated subtitle are usually very different, to expect them to be the same is stupid on your part.

Well I was just going by the back of the DVD case which says like this:
Which makes it looks a lot like only the japanese track has 5.1 audio.

As far as I could tell, the English subtitles matched the english dialogue (from what little i saw) which is why I figured watching it in japanese with the subs would be the best course of action. They might not be word for word, but I believe they're damn close.
I assumed it was like when you watch TV and the closed caption isn't perfectly word for word.
Tanuki, did Cait Sith have some sort of accent with the english dub, cause the subs for his dialogue (what dialogue he was limited to) were realllllllllly strange. I couldn't make sense out of it, it looked like a 3 year old was at the keyboard for those parts, so I assumed they were trying to convey accent.

Of course they're going to be relatively similar since they're saying the same things, but a Japanese translated sub is going to different than a rewritten in English dub.

Boy, Alien: Ressurection really loses its punch when they edit out the deaths. :/ Not seeing the scientist's face chowed or Ridley's aborted clones or the captain pull out a piece of his brain is depressing. I say, if you're going to show a violent movie, do it on a channel where you don't have to edit it.

The amount that it's going for over what I paid, which is at least 2-3 times, and the fact that I probably wouldn't play it much will probably lead me to just ebay it.
I have to say that the guy who listed this should have killed himself for selling it so low if he did or didn't see how much it routinely goes for.

Well I just finished it. Got over the whole English dub/English subtitle problem by going with the Japanese language track. The movie looked amazing, the action sequences looked amazing, Tifa looked amazing
. The plot, not so amazing. Overall, I'd give it a ~7-8/10. Despite all its fault, it had enough redeeming qualites to be very enjoyable.

I'd agree with the rating.
I watched the english audio track (in 5.1!) and the dubbing was barely noticable. Granted it wasn't quite as good as Appleseed's dubbing but that's pretty much as good as it gets. I never played more than a few minutes of FF7 so I was going in pretty much clueless. It took a while to get the plot down but some of the fight scenes were just plain cool. I think the only thing that hurts this movie is the weakness of the plot. I mean

they build up Sephiroth's return so much and then you blink and its over. I think I was mostly disappointed that going into that last battle you don't realize its going to be the last battle. I think if there had been a break in there somewhere, kind of like a "regrouping" then the movie as a whole would have been stronger.
