As far as I could tell, the English subtitles matched the english dialogue (from what little i saw) which is why I figured watching it in japanese with the subs would be the best course of action. They might not be word for word, but I believe they're damn close.
I assumed it was like when you watch TV and the closed caption isn't perfectly word for word.
Tanuki, did Cait Sith have some sort of accent with the english dub, cause the subs for his dialogue (what dialogue he was limited to) were realllllllllly strange. I couldn't make sense out of it, it looked like a 3 year old was at the keyboard for those parts, so I assumed they were trying to convey accent.
