In my experience, yes. They won't have the extra $5 promo and probably won't stack your MVP (if you have it - sounds like you probably don't). But, for example, I got quotes of $10 from them on the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games which matches GC's pre-MVP price.

I have a HWV 1/2 mile from my house while the nearest GC's are 16-20 mile round trips. So it is nice to have the regular store nearby just for convenience. Plus if I get the manager he does add 10% to make up for the MVP. FWIW, my local HWV gets a lot of game trade-ins which I find odd because the Blockbuster right down the street gets almost none (and didn't even when their prices were sky-high). I also think regular HWV stores have the price match guarantee so if you see a price at GS or BBV you want matched they just might do it (YMMV as always even at GC stores where they advertize it). I'm saying this is the case for the regular store because when the manager there tries to add the MVP for me he ends up having to call GC to verify the price I told him (which is the same as their price :lol:). He is entering it as a price match to Gamecrazy and the computer tells him to call I guess.

I don't remember any elite craziness, nor was a warranty ever required to purchase it, it was just heavily recommended. A warranty is never required to buy anything. Now that warranties and game guards don't matter anymore, it's truly up to the customer - and more often than not, they decline, then whine when their system fails.

It was required at most of the stores around me the day it came out. One even sold it in a huge bundle with extra controllers and accessories. I found the "best" available deal which was simply the warranty and not the extra crap. Yeah, sure, I could have waited a few days or weeks and gotten one without it but I had credit to burn (which is why I wanted it there), and was itching to get a 360 (my first HD console) after waiting for the Elite to come out, and most of the GC stores were sold out before release so I had to take what I could get. It never sat well with me that they forced the bundles/warranty on it though.

I just find the whole warranty thing shady in that the terms always seems to change on me. Now, supposedly, they cover the 4th year after MS's coverage runs out. Is that standard, Scorch?

Edit - Wait, I see you put the 13th in there. Where did that come from? The printouts they used at my stores had it listed as just for the holiday weekend (4th - 7th). I was too busy to get out today and do my last trade (and figured the $5 wasn't worth the hassle of a 20 mile round trip anyway unless I had other business out there). But if it is really going through the 13th that is good news.
 
Yeah, maybe they just decided to extend it or something. I was positive I saw the 7th on the sheets with the bar code they used to scan for the extra $5. I will be printing the web site info and taking it with me when I head in this week just to be sure ;).

I also wasn't aware they kept their site updated (well, I never look). I'm was so used to the horribly out of date (and now defunct) Gamerush page :lol:.
 
i went on thursday. the lego games sale ended a week ago on that day. i found a mismarked box and got lego batman for 10 bucks. it was a good day
 
Hey traded in some gamesto gc however the manager straight up lied to my face about the $5 promotion. First he said he didnt know what I was talking about. To which i explained thoroughly. To which he stated it wasnt in any morning print up he saw. Due to this experience is there a way the op could include a link of the actual current promotions? I looked while the manager was lying to my face but was unable to find it on the spot. Thank you for all the work your putting forth op.

Doing the same thing for me -- an hour later -- not loading any images. However, I agree that link would be a great addition to the original post, assuming it works again.

One question, sorry if it's been asked and answered before... I trade at BBV quite a bit, but never at GC. Can I get a gift card / value card at GC so I can use it at multiple locations, and if so, will it also work at a Hollywood store that does NOT have GC? Of the two stores closest to me, only one has a GC... Thanks!!

Yes, but they can only load whole dollar amounts onto the gift cards. And be very careful because if they screw up it seems to take them an hour on the phone to fix it. By that, I mean if they either ring it up as a new gift card when it isn't, or like happened to me the other day, they try to reload when it is a new card. The worst is when they treat an old card like a new one - your credit gets lost and they have to make multiple calls to fix it. One time it took several days of me calling the store back for them to correct it. That's why I always get new cards each time now - though the last guy managed to screw that up too ;).

But definitely, the cards are interchangeable - you can get/use credit at GC and standalone HWV stores. That I know for sure.

Once again I didn't get the MVP on top of the Singstar Abba price because it stuck the extra $5 promo on top of it which negates the MVP (though I did get the MVP pricing on the other two). So, really, it isn't a "$5 extra" promo, it is more like $3.50 - $4 extra :roll:. I like a lot of things about Gamecrazy, but the way they punish people with MVP membership is highly annoying. GS at least does that part right (Edge always stacks with any used game or trade-in deals).

In terms of things from the BBV B1G1 sale it seems to me besides Onechanbara for the Wii the better ones are the DS games like Guitar Hero On Tour Decades and a few others.

I should also add that I confirmed the continuance of the $5 extra on $15 or more trades. They had the bar code this time at my local GC - imagine that! I still had to remind them about it though.
 
i was able to get credit for Onechanbara wii for $15 (mvp ; $13.67 w/o mvp... doesnt add up to 10%. nevermind it does.) plus $5 bonus for a total of $20.

thanks io. ive been avoiding Onechanbara like the plague ever since bbv sale started. i passed on so many. and surprise surprise... they're gone now. ::sighs::

how much does Guitar Hero Decades get? nevermind, i read the op again.

I wish I had a iphone. Can't afford the upkeep on it (and the phone too).
 
Anyone know if GC takes the Xbox Vision cam for trade? I asked when at the store the other day and the employee said he couldn't find it in the system but still wasn't sure.

And yes, they need to change their policy regarding the MVP discount stacking. I can understand not having it apply when there is an MVP-only promotion going on, but when there is a special for all customers there is no reason to punish MVP members by having their discount negated. Especially given how employees and signage advertises the card as a 10% discount on all used games and a 10% bonus on trades, there is never any qualifier mentioned until a specific deal pops up.

game crazys are way far from where i live, will they give me shit for trading 5 of the same game in one shot?

I answered this as yes in the GR thread, you can trade multiple copies of wheelman, I've done 3 in the past at a time, but they know me at the store, so I never have a problem, and they don't have a single copy policy like retarded GS.

If you can find Ski Doo (PS3) at your local GameStop for $4.99 new or $3.99 used, then there's a nice flip at GC for ya.

I went to GC today just to stop by, and they still had GTA IV Special Edition for $24.99 new and the Assassin's Creed LE for $29.99 new, both for 360 -- I splurged. =x

I also asked them the TiV for Zoids Assault on 360 (which I got for $9.xx at GoGamer) and it's $10.00. I'm doing a HUGE trade-in tomorrow at GC, so I'll be posting some values later on.

Problem is, it is $13.64 before MVP and the $5 bonus does not stack with MVP. So I don't know how that would work. You might need to add another game to it.

Yeah, problem is Ski-Doo is scarce. There are 4 total copies new and used at GS stores within 100 miles of me and 2 of those are out of practical reach and the other 2 are not convenient either unless I have other reasons to go there (30 mile round trips in different directions).

As for the MVP card, I was really hesitant to renew it this year because I made such little use of it last year. Last year pretty much all of my trade-ins were pricematches to Blockbuster trade-in values where the MVP doesn't matter anyway (they don't stack it at my local store anyway). But with the demise of BBV trade-in values and this new iPhone app I have been finding lots of hidden gems at GC and have more than paid for my MVP in just the last week or so, even when I don't get it when the $5 is tacked on (because you do get the MVP pricing on the other games - the $5 just gets added to the base value of one game). So if you think you'll be able to find more stuff to trade there just normally it is well worth it - you get the price back after only trading $100 worth of stuff which is not hard to do.

Plus, and this is a really crappy reason, but if you get the damn thing they won't harass you about it every single time you go in. It was worth it just to get them to shut up about it :roll:.

It would be interesting to see if this is really true or if you just had a lazy/clueless employee because the iPhone app still shows the Wii version at $13.64/$15. The 360 one is $12 though, so maybe he just looked that up and said it was for both. If not, though, that would be the first discrepancy I've seen with the app pricing.

As for the rest, the iPhone app shows $11.70 for :wii: SpongeBob Globs of Doom (so maybe your $12 was rounded up from that), I can't seem to look up Zelda Phantom Hourglass, and Pikmin is $12.50.

Yes IO, your numbers are correct. I think I got them swapped since it was from memory.

SB was $11.70, Onecharbara 360 was $12, which I traded in today. Wii version was $13.64. Got the $5 bonus and renewed my MVP for $9.99. Hopefully I'll get more use out of it this year.

Zelda was still $14 and still no entry for Pikmin due to too many copies in the area. I'm implying that because this was the second location that told me there was no value.

$5 bonus won't stack with MVP to confirm. So doing multiples of smaller trade ins nets more credit overall.

then I just got hosed....rep told me that $5 bonus would get wiped out if he used the MVP bump. Fortunately it was only a couple $s. I'll make sure that I get both 10% and $5 in my next trade.

EDIT: went to the link you provided. It states that the $5 bump can't be combined with other offers. I was always under the impression that MVP didn't stack with anything, opposite of the Edge card from GS.

I don't see any obvious proof that MVP and the $5 promo will stack. Plus the page is all funky.

Yeah, but it doesn't work if they scan the games, apply your MVP, and scan the $5 extra coupon. It stacks the $5 on to one of the games' base value and does not add MVP. At one store they did something, though, to get me the MVP on top of it. But at every other place (5 transactions since that first one) they didn't bother or didn't notice and I didn't push it since it was only $1 or so each time (and I have been trading multiple Onechanbaras in and don't want to make too much of a fuss over that ;)).

So unless you are really on top of it and the clerk knows how to make this work, you won't get it stacked automatically like you would at GS.

The other two offers specifically state that MVP does not work, the $5 promo mentions nothing of the sort. Meaning that you can't stack the $5 promo with the 20% GH bonus.

At least, that's the way I see it.

I wish I knew exactly what the cashier did to make it work, but from what I could tell, it was really easy. He had it done before I could think of a response in case he didn't want to give me the promo.

My receipt shows that my MVP bonus was $1.40, which means the 10% was applied before the $5 extra.
