ok this looks amazing.

http://www.jamestowngame.com/

reminding me once again that I have a whole backlog of indie n classic shmups I needa dediate a whole day jus to play thru...
This looks awesome... and then I saw it was for PC. Dang. I wish it were an XBLA or XBIG title. Oh well.
Does anyone know if the Platinum Collection version of Espgaluda II is going to be region free?
I have read that it is not region free.
I just bought ketsui ds and I can't wait to get it. Anyone play it?
Yes. It's just all boss battles, but nice to have on a portable.

The iphone Cave shmups are more "complete" games, though.

I like the iphone games but the collector in me wanted that Ketsui ds version. I wanted to purchase it before but had no ds unit. When I noticed a cag had one sale for a decent price I was in.

Looked up some of the games mentioned on the last page here lately and they're kind of out my price range. Might have to dig deep on past pages in this thread to figure out what the best region free games are.

Related, I picked up Ultimate Shooting Collection and Castle of Shikigami III on the Wii awhile back. Now I just need to get a Wii in May. Almost picked up a copy of Chaos Field for the GCN, but passed since I have USC. Also, got Death Smiles, but haven't had the chance to play it yet.

Yeah, don't get Chaos Field. Second reference to it I've seen on CAG in the past couple days but it isn't good. At all.

I bit on Eschatos and Mushihimesama Futari yesterday. I'm as psyched to try Judgement Silversword as much as either of the "real" titles.

You'll have to let me know how Castle Shikigami III and USC is.

I'm liking the Strania demo. I'll full game that and Trouble Witches Neo. Haven't tried the demo for that yet, but it reminds me of the Cotton series of shmups, and I liked those games.

I've only played like 15 minutes of Strania so far, but yeah, I really liked it. Seems like a return to form for G.Rev... which is good, because I loved Border Down and Under Defeat but hated the Senko no Ronde games and that Mamoru-kun bullshit they had a hand in.

Trouble Witches was better than I would've expected. It's a cute-em-up, so it doesn't make you feel manly, and the music is kinda weak, but the gameplay is definitely solid (based on the demo, at least.) I'll be picking that one up, as well.

Has anyone gotten a copy of Espgaluda II Black Label (Platinum Collection) yet, or heard if it is region free? It is still showing "?" on Play-Asia... I really want to get it but unfortunately I can't swing a JP X360 anytime soon if it is JP only.

According to NCSX it is region free. That said, I don't know if they're simply assuming but an email would answer it.

In other shmup news, I didn't get my games today so no weekend of shooting for me :(

I'll just play some Raiden Fighters instead.

Eschatos is pretty good. Very simple with no real power ups to speak of (unless they're in the alternate versions). I'm reminded of Trizeal but I think that's just the graphics talking. It has been forever since I played Trizeal. Judgement Silversword is jaw-dropping given the fact that it's a Wonderswan game. It might be better than Eschatos.

Mushihimesama Futari is beautiful. I only got to play it for like 10 minutes but wow, I'm looking forward to much more of it.
Any game that reminds me of Trizeal = bad game. :nottalking:
It's mostly the graphics. They're sort of intentionally retro-simple. It looks better/is better than Trizeal. And the more I play Judgement Silversword, the more it is obvious that Eschatos is meant to be its big brother sequel. I think I paid 78.90 + shipping for it which is about par for imports nowadays.

Played Trouble Witches demo yesterday and liked it, but it seems like it is missing some polish to me.

I'll DL when I find deals on points. I doubt it'll ever go on sale - SNK games never do.

Apparently the European release of DoDonPachi dai fukkatsu (DDP: Resurrection) will be playable on North American xboxes! $65 plus shipping from ncsx.

Another option might be hmv.com, which is ~35 pounds shipped. Amazon.co.uk is ~30 pounds shipped. I'll probably try that later tonight.

oh sweet! Resurrection!!

I bought Jamestown waaaaay back in the days, during the last crazy Steam sale.

like all Steam games, it just sits there in a list never to be downloaded ever lol.

a list worth at least $100 -_-

My stuff has been downloaded, played for 10 minutes, and subsequently forgotten about.

Sort of off-topic but I think part of the problem with digital distribution is that there isn't a box sitting on a shelf in your house saying, "Play me dude, you paid $30 for me!"

I couldn't tell you what Steam games I own right this second, but I can look up at my bookshelf and tell you all the 360/PS3 games I've bought since late May.
Radiant Silvergun XBLA 9/14 worldwide release.

Oh hell yes!
That is the best birthday gift I could ask for, other than a Blast City of course.

Okay so the Gudemonium Collection is up on steam, price is only$9.99 but I had to look up doujin to see what the hell that meant. Now I have to ask is this some cartoon porn shooter or wtf? I didn't see any weird shit in the trailers but I would rather not be surprised while playing.

Wondering if Under Defeat HD is still on tap for next month. Not too much shmup news lately which makes me sad.

Digital Reality's "Sinemora" popped back into the news briefly today by confirming it is XBLA only. The Grasshopper Manufacture's graphics look really sweet, but I'm hoping the long dev time means the game is going to be more than just a pretty face.

not much shmup news?!?!?!

Mushihime Sama got announced for ophone...

and Jamestown had sum DLC that I havent played yet

Akai Katana Shin is also being "explored" for smartphone. Seems like this is where most shmup development is going these days.

I still play Espgaluda on ipad, but I'd like to see more console ports, not so much phone stuff.

cant beat buttons, but the iphone mode versions of those games are actually a lot of fun.

the change the mechanics to cater more to touch screen so they work out real well.

I dont even play the regular Arcade modes... it's not worth it.

also, the iphone mode in Deathsmiles sucked lol.

I just got an iphone from my uncle a few days ago and I am LOVING the Cave games. And they are all on sale right now in honor of Espgaluda 2 winning some game of the year award. I just bought Deathsmiles because I want to play the new mode and obsess over items Castlevania-style!

biggity bump~!!!

Akai Katana is awesome!!

buy it and play it becoz if a scrub like me can get #17 on the leaderboards then that is real sad and speaks to how well this game is selling

Figured I'd bump this with actual news and all. ;)

Accoring to the guys over at Shumps forum, this is a pretty good port, not 100% perfect, but very good.

http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=38875&start=270

Edit: Taking a quick peek at some of their comments talking about this news, they mention, that on Rising Star's website it only has a mention of the 360 version, considering that's the version that is buggy (JPN release) and both are virtually identical, I cannot see why Rising Star would not release both versions, unless they don't have a good PS3 distribution platform in place. So time till tell.
