I was able to successfully preorder the Slim using the coupon, and I'm ECSTATIC! Unless they cancel it or something, people like me saving the coupon for just this moment should be in the clear!
That's what I'm planning on doing! I've got 2 of the $75 coupons. One for the PS3 Slim and the other for a PSP GO..:lol::lol:

Yup that did it.

gah, I can't wait for the exact technical specifications. 45nm chips or 32nm chips? heat generated? cooling? wattage used? Need moar comparison on tech specs~

Looks great! Now for the real question... Will it last just as long as a regular PS3 or will it break easily? Also it looks like the power supply is internal!

#1 Sony has been lossing Billions.

#2. At the 33 month mark they were barely better than the Gamecube and Billions behin din cash.

#3. Sony really needed to do something to RELAUNCH the PS3 and Rebrand it.

#4. Now everything Looks more colorfull friendlier and more accessible. Unlike the old Serious marketing campaign of Black and White with serious undertones geared to mature audiences. They have even Rebranded the Game packages, No more effensive and horrible Spiderman 3 Font.

#5. Still Its will be up against

$199 Wii
$199 Xbox 360
$299 PS3 >>>??? WHAT!!

Good point. Though that's not confirmed that the PSU is internal.

I'm still baffled though... HOW do they expect to sell the current fat PS3 at the same price as this new toy?!:whistle2:k

oswald, your pics say that the 160gb will be $400 but sony just said that all ps3 models will be $300 starting tommorow, can you clear that up?
Less heat, less power...that should all help reduce the chances of breaking.
I am only worried about the disc drive and wonder how long it will last.
Even w/ MGS4 I still will wait, this is still not enough to entice me to buy a PS3
See you in a year or two then :)
I am only worried about the disc drive and wonder how long it will last.
It comes with a year warranty so we'll find out before then I'm sure. I haven't had any problems with my PS2 Slim so I'm really not worried about the PS3 Slim.

I'm so going to buy one but will wait a month or so to see if there is any problems with the initial production. If I remember correctly, the first few batches of PS2 slims had some kind of overheating problem with them (correct me if I am wrong)

They've been clearing stock for months for a reason.

If there are any problems, I'm sure Sony will fix them (they have to, 1 year warranty).

Is the disc drive failure that bad? I've had my PS3 for over a year and haven't noticed a single problem. It might not get that much use as far as games but I use it regularly for Blurays and as a dvd player.

I swear, judging from your posts you're either 12 or have the downs.

80 GB = $300
160 GB = $400

If you don't feel like waiting, Amazon already has the price cuts in effect now.

fuck you, they said all models will be $300 starting tommorow, so maybe your the twelve year old

#4. Its a Bigger 120GB Hard Drive and a Slimmer console. I will personally 100% Gurantee the Slim will Cost $349.99 or $399.99, people will say YES, for the heck of it Slimmer, 120GB HDD, and 45nm CPU and 45nm GPU are worth the extra $50, and possibly a 4x Bluray Drive

(snip)

New better Hardware $299
Old outdated Hardware $299

This just aint gonna happen.

100% Confirmed the PS3 Slim is $299
100% funny! :applause:

The Slim for 300 is pretty much the sweet spot. Now I just have to wait for Dell or some place to have a deal on them.

BC used to be a deal breaker for me but looking at Ign's top 25 PS2 games of all time shows me shadow of the colossus and Kingdom hearts are the only games I would really want to play. Everything else on that list I already played or has a sequel.
fuck you, they said all models will be $300 starting tommorow, so maybe your the twelve year old
That hurt.

Anyways, why are some people on GAF reporting that the Slim can't play CDs? Not that I really care...just curious.

I was going to get a PS3 anyway for The Last Guardian, Heavy Rain, and Uncharted 2. The $100 price drop and a slimmer PS3 are just icing on the cake.

It has a Compact Disc logo on that panel with all the others, so I can't see why it wouldn't play CDs.

How can microsoft expect to compete now. The elite has to come down to 299 now and even then includes no wifi and no blu ray and I am an xbox 360 owner and love it.

Just preordered my PS3 Slim from amazon. Excited to finally be able to play Uncharted. I Had trade in credit and applied it, made it an even sweeter deal. Glad I waited and didn't bite on the Prestige Edition of MW 2.

I thought it was all but 'announced' that the Elite was dropping to $299. But for real, they have a larger game library, a larger install base in the US, LIVE, and better exclusives. That's how they compete. Wifi isn't really that big of a deal...it's better to have the console wired anyways.

Halo and Gears say hello, along with both exclusive and timed-exclusive DLC.

And hasn't it been pretty much "confirmed" that the 60 GB pro model is being phased out and the 120 GB Elite model is taking it's place at the $299.99 price point?
It's supposed to have the same functionality as the 80GB PS3s, so don't expect it to do anything more than what those already offer.
Well that's not that bad I guess. I currently have the 80GB model. I wouldn't mind getting a Slim.

i was just saying as a new gamer, how could you not choose blu ray and wifi built in vs the 360 without it. I personally think the xbox has the better community, more games and better support, but blu ray would have been nice to be included as well. I broke down and bought a blu ray player in conjuction with a laptop so i dont need to get a ps3 at all. But it has been confirmed that the elite will be 299 as it should be. Maybe even 250!

i would love to pick up the mgs/killzone bundle for $299 instead of the slim, ill call my bestbuy tommorow and see if they still have it

360 has the 3rd-party support and bigger user base, but this is almost like a start-over for Sony (Gabe Newell, are you paying attention?) A price that's actually competitive and reasonable and a new design that's certain to get them plenty of press makes me think they might actually be doing something right for the 1st time in 2 years (I say this as rather content PS3 owner).

The 360's userbase size-wise is pretty much a result of the 1 year head start. I'm curious to see how this affects sales this holiday season...

and to both of you I say... what's the better deal for 300... Slim for 360? Blu ray, Wifi, free PSN, bluetooth, is not such a bad deal. deinitely getting a better console for the dollar. Halo, Gears, those are games are all old.. no one cares about them. But still the point now is.. what's the better deal?
