Splinter Cell Conviction- Out now

Not sure if everyone got a chance to watch it, but GameTrailers TV last Thursday night spent the 1/2 hour talking about SC:Conviction. There is no doubt in my mind, after watching that, that this is a day 1 purchase for me. I'm so psyched for it.
Demo this Thursday
:whee::whee::whee::whee:

My Monster Hunter 3 preorder may be short-lived depending on the demo.

Can't wait. Have a pre-order for this on Amazon (for the current $51 price tag) I hope this compels me to keep it.

Good lookin out! \m/

Awesome game is awesome. Game is really fun to play.

Still, I feel sort of strange that this game still has the Tom Clancy name associated with it since it isn't really realistic.

Yeah, but boy does it feel good to hear that high pitched goggle sound again! I've missed it soooooo! It really feels like an evolved splinter cell game. Familiar yet fresh.

I'm gonna have to get used to the controls and be that much more strategic. It's a bit weird because the controls are like a mix of RSV and MGS. I'm generally pretty blown away with the overall game though. Slow and steady.

Why on earth the crouch/stand button is LB is beyond me. I'd have preferred they mapped it to push in the left thumb stick. Makes more sense to me. Still loving it the second and third time through, though. Found a different way inside the warehouse; multiple paths are a nice touch.
So, what are your guys tactics? especially if there are more than 3 to take out?

I'm not very stealthy...
Well, if you're not that stealthy..Splinter Cell...hmmm...I think you might have a lot of trial and error ahead of you to learn.

When I see three dudes, I usually try to take one out by hand to earn the mark and execute then pop the remaining to by using it.

Heads Up! I just got an email from Ubisoft about the demo. It also says if you text the word WEAPON to 44144 you'll get a code for an exclusive in-game weapon and that supplies are limited..so get on it! The codes might be unique.

Thanks, texted and got a code it says is unique.

Wow, this game is awesome. It wasn't even on my radar after being so disappointed with Double Agent, but I'm glad I gave it a look. Totally new feel to everything.

Got the email also. Sent the text and got unique code right away. At the end of the first text it said "Text STOP to end." I then replied STOP back to 44144 and it said "You've opted out of the weapon campaign. Visit msgme.com or call 866-251-1200 for more info."

Thanks, got my code.

Put the demo in my queue and it'll download once I get back from class.

Wow, reading your posts is going to be confusing. :whee:

I've been anticipating this game for over 2 years, and all I can say is WOW! First off, it looks amazing! Second, the controls feel so good. I love how the commands and objectives are integrated into your surroundings. It almost has a bit of a Mirror's Edge feel to it the way you can string moves together.

Toward the end of the level, I looked down on some enemies from the upper level. I marked them for my execute command, but then realized I had already used it. So I left them marked, and instead, jumped over the railing, did a "death from above" and executed the other two. It was freaking badass and felt so fluid. I already planned on it, but this is without question a day one purchase for me. :)

The demo was amazing! I was disappointed with the last SC (what was it called, Double Agent?) but this one is going to rejuvenate the franchise. I've had it preordered for awhile now... can't wait for 4/13.

Short, but sweet demo. The game really feels badass and now I may have to get on launch. I Enjoy the mark and execute more then I thought, especially giving something death from above then taking two down instantly.

DA wasn't that bad. It was no Chaos Theory but it had its moments and the story was decent. Graphics were pretty good for something that came out when the 360 was still young. I personally loved the soundtrack.

I wonder why Amazon doesn't have much faith in Conviction? $52 is a strange price....but I'l take it!

so, I've never played a SC game before(not sure if they had any on the Gamecube, which is all I had until after 360 launched)
Conviction is AWESOME! I love it, but I will just be waiting until I get it off Goozex.
Was Double Agent worth playing now that it's cheap?

Really cool demo, but it doesn't feel like a SC game.

I'm tempted to pick it up at launch but the typical 40.00 Ubi drop might hold me back.

I guess I'll be the odd man out. Hated the demo. It's not Splinter Cell at all. Controls are clunky and awkward, graphics are dated, the new B&W filter is terrible.. it just doesn't feel like Splinter Cell at all. "Last known position" is awesome, though. Will definitely be canceling my preorder, though.

A rental at best, I might pick it up a few weeks after launch when it goes down in price like all Ubisoft games tend to do.

I'm really, really disappointed. I've loved Splinter Cell since it started. SC was okay, Pandora Tomorrow was good, Chaos Theory was almost perfection, and Double Agent was pretty great.. but this one just isn't Splinter Cell. Yes, I know Sam's gone rogue and blah blah blah, but the gameplay shouldn't feel this different.

Hopefully, since we disagree on some of the quality of other SC games, then I will not be as disappointed as you.

I don't know how I forgot to download this last night, but I did. Now I have to wait until tomorrow at the earliest to try it. :(

Its best not to think of this as a Splinter Cell game. Think of it as a new franchise. If you go in expecting it to be a Splinter Cell game, you will be disappointed as its not really a stealth game. Its more of an action game with stealth elements.

I have had the Collector's Edition of this game preordered on Amazon for a while and after playing through the demo a couple of times, I saw nothing to make me want to change my preorder.

My first attempt things would usually get messy and I would be forced to take out groups of guards by firefights. The large room with the 5 guards turned into a big shootout, which wasn't what I was planning on doing. A couple guards just happened to notice me.

My second attempt was much better as I was able to kill almost every guard without alerting other guards. The same large room with the 5 guards I snuck around and kept waiting until a guard was far enough away from the others that I could silently take him out. The Mark & Execute feature is also awesome in my opinion. I'm kind of glad that Conviction is a different take on the series and I definitely think this game has a place in the Splinter Cell collection.

It is awesome how you can play this stealthily if you want to, I enjoyed my stealthy session more than the session that turned into a cluster of shootouts. I will never be shy about how much I love the Splinter Cell series. I've been crazily anticipating Conviction since E3 last year since the new look was shown and after playing the demo I'm looking forward to this game even more now.

I loved the old splinter cell's but it was time to move in a new direction. Frankly I think some of the stuff they have in this game should of been in past games anyway. Such as the black and white filiter, and Sam being more athletic. As much as I loved the old games I always hated how nonathletic Sam was.

I've had this game pre-ordered for forever. I love the Splinter Cell games. This demo is no different. I loved it. It's a little different, but I like it better, actually. It plays extremely smooth. I can't wait until the full game comes out!!

Biggest reason I hate (but tryed most of them) all the previous versions is they assumed you knew what to do or where to go. I mean, I don't need my hand held, but christ... can I at least get a hint on what I need to do... ?

This game feels more like Jack Bauer: The Game, and I loved it. My favorite part was dropping down from the pipe to take out the baddie below me, and then marking and executing the two in the room. I felt like such a bad ass and haven't felt that way since doing the take downs in the last Bourne game.

Exactly. As great as the old Splinter Cell games are, I don't have any problem with them moving in a new direction. Lots of people are complaining about how action oriented Conviction is and how the pace of the game is so much quicker. It pretty much makes sense when you think about what has happened.

Fisher used to work for 3rd echelon and he had all kinds of rules and stipulations that he was forced to follow. At times he couldn't be seen or caught and could not use lethal force. He was basically on a leash when he was at 3rd echelon.

In Conviction, Fisher is no longer working for 3rd echelon and he only cares about finding his daughter's killer. He doesn't have guidelines or rules to follow. He is free to be as lethal and ruthless as he wants to be.
