They are extremely strong, people don't generally use them though cause they are sort of late game. And games rarely go TOO long.
 
Eh. They already cost more and were harder to build than in SC1 (having their own building separate from the High Templar) before the patch. They certainly have great potential for use given the decrease in Zerg detection and the addition of Terran Mules to reduce scan likelihood, but it's still an odd decision to me. I'm eager to actually play the damn game to see if all this theorycrafting holds true, but... eh.

And, uh... I dunno about "extremely strong". They're still the fragilest 125/125 motherfuckers around, even if they do one-shot workers.
 
Yea, but if you can't see them they are devastating. They are probably the best at destroying structures. Probably cost more so you cannot amass them early.

Well, I'd argue that with a few specific cases aside, if you're using DT against buildings, you're probably doing it wrong, but that's neither here nor there. What I'm saying is that yes they're powerful, and yes they're invisible, just as they always were. But they're also more expensive and harder to tech to (being split from the High Templar) than they used to be, and every bit as fragile.

I'm assuming, based on my awesome powers of Wild Guessing, that the nerf to DT was based on some internal Blizzard testing. Maybe there was a way that Protoss could just get them too damn early and kill large numbers of drones with minimal risk. Maybe their own experimentation found that the changes made were the best way to stop that while still giving them a window of effectiveness before Observers/Overseers become common. Maybe, maybe, maybe.

Maybe we'll get Corsairs back next patch! Wouldn't that be bitchin'?

Agreed, possibly swap for something, but selling is rediculous. Same reason I've never been able to sell my EQ/EQ2/UO/WoW accounts I've been through.

Does anyone know if we can still get the keys? I was late to the party because at first SC2 beta didn't interest me. When the beta was announced, I was just working through my backlog and I figured "Hey, I'll just wait for the game!" but I really can't wait anymore. I've watched all of HD Starcraft's commentaries in the past 3 days. I really need to play this damn game.

Edit - And it seems like I'm going to need to buy some sort of fan for my laptop to run this game. It already runs too hot when I watch movies... SC2 will kill it.
 
Everyone should check your battle.net accounts. It seems a new wave of invites were given out randomly and there were no email notifications. No Joke.

I dunno if this was because of the new wave or because my brother said his friend would get me a key. Eh. So who can I play with now?

I'd also still rather play BW.

From what I've read, it would appear on your battle.net account as if you added it as a game previously. A lot of people were skeptical about it and thought it was a April fools joke themselves, until they actually downloaded it and logged in...
 
I don't have a "key" key, it just appears as another game and would let me download the client. Not that I can test it right now since I'm at work.

I'm still sour over losing to "The Crotch" in a game where I forgot to research siege tech. Also in that game, I accidentally left one SCV on gas instead of using three.
 
Man, my timing was perfect too. Those mines came in exactly where I wanted, which means I knew you were gonna get obs, and since I had my natural up and running, it was just a matter of (easily) beating back the push before my 110 food push.

I think I had 3 or 4 tanks.

After that game I wanted throw my keyboard against the wall.
I didn't get that far but I definitely smashed my fist against the keyboard.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue in which players would desync when matched against others with certain CPUs.
Highlights: Changes to Terran anti-air. Missile turret damage up by five, but they no longer get +7 against armoured. Thor AA now does significantly less damage, but deals splash damage. Protoss photon cannons are significantly beefier, but the psionic storm radius is now 25% smaller. Zerg Brood Lord damage and Roach regeneration got nerfed, but their static defences are now stronger and cheaper.

Bah.. still no beta key...

I'm sufficiently annoyed by that. I registered for the beta the day it was announced, and have every game that they allow you to register (War 2 BNE isn't register-able by the way) attached to my account. I suppose I'm just really unlucky.

Giving it splash damage more than makes up for a damage drop. I completely agree with you.

Ehh.. it isn't as though Brood War is known for it's multi-hour games.

From my experience with the beta (which I'm not a part of) it does feel like certain units have such a limited scope that they're useless in practical play - Even the seldom used units in brood wars have a clear and evident purpose, and can be used for SOMETHING useful in almost any game.
 
well, that game lasted all of 10 minutes.

average game in BW is 20 min.
usually there's a lot of guerilla tactics in BW, dropping, laying mines, expanding, harassing.
all the games in SC2 i've played have all led to one decisive drop/battle/harass/cheese, it's never back and forth and it's almost impossible to come back.
 
We are in beta afterall. I expect the game to get a complete overhaul by official release.

Also just out of curiousity, other than SC, War3/FT, Diablo2/LoD and WoW, what else is there to register?

Remember when everyone said Terran was underpowered? Now everyone says they're overpowered!

I'm finding it hard to do something other than 3M though. I've also been playing some 2s with my friend who Randoms and all I do is 3M. Everything else seems like cute tricks, but in the end it all returns to 3M.
 
Whats 3M Kain? I'm Not in the beta, so i'm not up on this hip SC2 lingo.

My thoughts: faster mech and "weaker" Marauders are nice to see. I'm totally indifferent to the Void Ray changes. Roaches losing 1 armour could be pretty god damn big, and god DAMN are those Hydras ever fragile.

i dunno.

i don't like having thoughts without endless play testing.
so many people bitching on TL.net and they haven't even played it yet.

now that i think about it...
i'm pretty sure i won all my games on the fact that i can macro faster than the opponent...
